    I am from the Philippines, staying in Southern California, In my home country , we saute the moringa leaves with garlic, onions , ginger
    and chunks of chicken meat, put water according to the amount you want , pepper and salt to taste. It can be done also with pork and beef
    Try it and hopefully you are going like it.
    Your video is educational and informative.Thanks

    Those are two different subspecies of Moringa. If you want more leaves chop the tops off after your cutting has grown to about two feet high. You will get more side growth, and it will also be easier to harvest. I think it's a good idea to plant from seeds to get the tap root growing to get denser nutrients, which means faster growth, less need for water, and more nutritional leaves. At least that's the theory.... 👍🏻

Can you inform me as to how much rainfall might be "too much?" I am anxious for whatever info, including the feedback of many others that have contacted you. Most grateful for any other experiences you may supply regarding how best to grow in various environments

      I have seen several posters here and on other Moringa videos who are from the Philippines and they say that there are lots of moringa growing there. Manila gets an average of 81 inches of rain a year. Houston gets about 55 inches a year on average so I think you should be fine. No experience here, just guessing based on what I have read.

My Moringa is struggling in an indoor pot here in Canada. I tried to give them as much sunlights in the Sunroom. Wish me luck! 🤞Fingers crossed its about 10 inches tall now.

    Ran into this vlog. Interesting. Perhaps this is known. The plant is native to South Asia and the botanical name comes from the native “murungai” in Tamil. It is an awesome plant with tremendous health benefits. It is referenced in ancient Ayurvedic texts. One nutritious way to use it, besides an awesome salad, is to add the the leaves or powder to pancakes or crepes. I wish I can grow them in Georgia. Would they grow in Georgia? Where can I get a cutting?

    • @DevelopAwesomeSkills
      @DevelopAwesomeSkills  5 лет назад +3

      Yes! Thank You! Do you freeze in the winter where you are in GA? If not then you can grow them year round in the ground. If it only freezes a few days per year you can also grow year round. If you have a freezing winter then you can grow them in an intensive bed and treat them like an annual crop - like corn. Plant an entire area in rows intensively and grow for the season harvesting when you can. You will prob get 2-3 harvests in one season - then you can bareroot the trees and overwinter in your garage or you can leave them in the ground to nourish the soil for replanting new seeds next season. My thoughts:)

  • @GODBLESSES
    @GODBLESSES 5 лет назад +8

    Very interesting. But I remember Bill Molson, in a video teaching permaculture had said that it was very important to not damage the tap root which travels deep into the ground of this tree. I believe that is the reason that Moringa is so nutritional, because it accesses All the minerals and nutrients deep down low to bring to us. So I wonder when you plant a branch that yes you get the beautiful tree but are the nutrients the same as a tree grown from seed in the same spot for years. I would think NO. I have told many about this tree for years but now I would want to know if the tree is the original one grown from seed, with a deep tap root, from which I get the powdered leaves. This would be what I would buy only.
    Lina

    • @DevelopAwesomeSkills
      @DevelopAwesomeSkills  5 лет назад +4

      the nature of the tree is that it is a taproot. So as the roots begin to grow from a cutting, the roots will also develop a taproot. The taproot is not specific only to growing moringa grom seed. :)

      :) yes my cats are the best!!! So the best way I have found to propagate moringa in cold climates is this...

    • @DevelopAwesomeSkills
      @DevelopAwesomeSkills  5 лет назад +6

      Any tree will grow in your location if you provide the microclimate that it likes:
      Moringa LOVEs heat and FULL SUN - no matter where you live.
      Moringa doesn't like to be grown in the shade or in cold climates.
      If you do live in a cold climate and want to grow Moringa, there are a few ways make it happen:
      1. Growing Moringa as an annual crop: Moringa grows so fast during the summer and will survive all year as long as it does not freeze more than 5-7 days per year in winter. However because of how fast they grow, many people living in colder climates will grow them as an annual crop, planting a field very close together, in rows like planting corn or grain. You will sow the seeds immediately after the last frost of the year, whether that is in march or April for you. Then tend to your crop and you will be able to do the first harvest within 3-4 months and you will get at least 1 more harvest before winter. Then right before winter comes, gently dig up all the roots on the thickest trunks, and store them in pots with loose soil in the garage or somewhere it will not freeze. Water once ever 2 weeks or so lightly, and then replant them in spring along with a bunch new seeds. After 1 or 2 seasons of this, your 3 year old trees will be getting really big in one season!
      2. You can also grow in a greenhouse or an attached Sunroom if planted in the ground - Should have FULL sun and south exposure.
      3. If the tree dies back because of a freeze or two, as long as the roots do not freeze, the tree will come back stronger next year.
      4. Moringa can grow in pots, but do not thrive in pots - they thrive best when they can stretch out their roots in the ground.

    Really enjoy your videos. I spent three years in the philippines.. have eaten alot of malunggay. Im on the Ms. Gulfcoast now and am going to grow mine in large containers along with calamansi so i can bring them inside over winter or atleast on cold nights and days. So ive got my chore ahead of me. Just saddens me abit because ill be throwing all those prunings away.

    • @DevelopAwesomeSkills

      that's awesome!!! and it's ok, using the clippings as mulch for your other trees will provide your garden with many nutrients also! So Moringa never goes to waste unless thrown away in the garbage:). If you throw it on the ground or if you can chip it up and use moringa wood chips around your trees that will feed them well also!

    what i did here in the philippines is just to let the moringa branch (cut) sit still in the corner of my yard. after a few days, new leaves will appear and that is the time i will plant them. believe me its a 100% growth.

      You can get the seeds on Amazon from many suppliers. Or find an organic farm near you. If you do a little searching in your local area you can most likely find some trees. They grow very well from seed tho

    It's October now in the FL Panhandle. We just had the anniversary of the hurricane. We are in a "drought" now. That means I have to dig a hole deeper that a foot to hit water. But the trees are loving it. They are not in saturated ground now. Growing like crazy now, we are getting October weather at last. I will have to see how they do when winter arrives, such as it is here. I bought powdered Moringa leaves and a gel capsule filling machine and I take three or four every day. Feeling better all the time.

    Three old guys in the nursing home. The first guy complaining how he can't pee anymore, up all night, going to the bathroom only to "squirt" and dribble a couple of drops each time. Second old geezzer complaining about how he can't poop like he use to. It's either constipation or "the hurshy squirts." The third "old fart" didn't have those problems. He said every morning at 07:05, he has to pee, like a river, full flow & non-stop. Then at 07:15 he's got to poop. Always a nice, smooth, long loaf. The first two old guys said, "YOUR LUCKY!" The third guy said, "Not really, I don't wake up until after 09:00.
