John, I agree with you that I have not noticed any improvement with this .2 version but only regressions. I am even getting phantom turn signals. I am also getting the hard breaking anxiety from the car. That is something they had overcome in the past, but it seems to be kind of returning.
Thank you for your videos, and in particular your mentioning the green light problem with 12.5.6.2. Within my first 2 minutes driving on this version (with HW3) it “freaked out” entering the intersection when there were no other cars! I fear HW3 will never be able to handle the new versions of FSD, and that HW3 won’t be updated for 2+ years to come, if ever. And it’s incredibly frustrating knowing HW4 users have a better functioning version when I paid a lot of money for FSD and it’ll never be able to achieve what was promised. Plus the green light problem is dangerous if a car behind you is speeding up to make the light!
I have 2024 Model Y, HW4, and got this update this week. Glad I watched your video before my first drive, because it definitely had a lane selection problem: freeway offramp with 2 forks, it signaled left, moved right but should have just moved forward on the left fork without signaling. (On the prior versions, it signaled right as though taking the right fork, but moved forward correctly.) Thanks for your hard work. That "rear view mirror" cam looks like a lot of extra effort.
The answer to what happens @8:30 is that it mis judged the placement of those cones/barriers at the corner of the off ramp. It saw them as blocking the exit and they even show up in black on the screen for a moment.
Downtown Chicago is definitely a serious stress test. I used to have customers in Chicagoland and regional company headquarters on S. Wacker. So I’ve had experience with rental cars on those roads. And I hated it. Toward the end of that job I gave up and took taxis or limos. Leave the driving to someone else. Because of all the bizarre road configurations and areas like lower Wacker where there is no GPS coverage I would say that if FSD can navigate that environment reliably then it’s good enough to drive almost anywhere in the US that I’ve been. One thing that holds it back is that I suspect that FSD training inputs are understandably skewed to favor CA and TX where the Tesla development teams are housed and where there are more Tesla’s in the road collecting driving data to be used in training.
This isn't true cuz up here north in Vancouver dt, it just drove me back home all the way from a hotel in busy downtown to my home that is about 40km away just today ... Maybe city driving has more complex situations to deal with where there is higher probability for driver to take control. At least for now.
Have you tried testing sending the directions from Google maps to your car and see if it will do the lower wacker street left turn that it keeps missing? I had problems with FSD not continuing straight for a roundabout, until I mapped out the destination from google maps (did not edit the map). Google maps showed not to follow the round-about but to stay to the right and it was able to continue to the correct location.
