RIP Bernard. Shed a tear this morning. There throughout my life and particularly my childhood - Dr Who, Carry On, Wombles, Jackanory and many, many others. But it was the Railway Children that will be my favourite of his performances. Humour, pathos, kindness and the sort of lovable, funny uncle we'd all love. An absolute legend. 'Let Perks be about it!'
I and others will remember those I'm sure, also along with the Railway Children I will also remember him from Doctor Who Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 A.D as a police officer. One of my most favourite narrations he did (also was seen in) for me will always be; Catching The Impossible. Tears will be shed but a Legends memory will live on in us all.
Yes - a British legend. Versatile and a great actor. He was marvellous in the Railway Children and in Fawlty Towers. Mind you, he was marvellous in all he did. R.I.P. Bernard.
I was working the bar at a pro/celebrity golf match. Bernard Cribbens was there with many other well known comedians. He was the funniest guy in the bar. Rest in peace.
What a great actor! I've not seen him in much but he has left an impression on me from Old Jack's Boat on Cbeebies and then also as a huge Whovian, I loved his work in Doctor Who and can't wait to see his part in the upcoming episodes.
RIP Bernard Cribbins, You left a mark on generation's, I grew up with loads of your work, from the Womble to Fawlty Towers etc etc, what a legend, Deepest sympathies to Family Friends, welling up typing this. God bless🙏💔🌹
Desperatedly saddened. He was so much a part of our lives, as the narrator to the film said. The first time I saw him was as a little child and I'm sure that it must have been Jackanory. And, of course his narrative skills have always been top notch. Well played Bernard. Your gentle tones will remain will us as long as we have memories. Wilf, you should have tried harder!
What a loss. Bernard Cribbins appeared in so many classic films & TV series. He was a joy to watch. A true gentleman. Can't say that about many celebrities today. RIP Bernard. Thanks for making my life richer and childhood a happy one. 😐
So sad to hear this. He was always such an unassuming gentle actor. My favourite film is definitely Carry on Jack, he took a great part in that, laughter all the way.
My childhood was full of his acting and voice work, a couple I didn’t know until now. He lived a good long life but damn, it’s tough to see him gone. R.I.P. Bernard and my condolences to his family.
Wonderful actor, not forgetting Hole In The Ground and one of my all time favourites, Right Said Fred. A "bit part actor" who eventually became one of the best on telly. So from an old Rochdalian to a lad born just up t`road in Owdham, RIP Bernard, you were very much loved.
Legend! Huge part of my childhood and loved him as Wilfred Mott in Dr Who a good few years on. Thank you Bernard. One of those who have lit up my life. Remebered fondly. R.I.P.
I met Bernard at Wembley, Challenge Cup Final between Wigan and Leeds in 19994, the Offiah try it was remembered for. But I remembered it for meeting the voice of Orinoco, Great Uncle Bulgaria, and Tobermory. Thankyou for such wonderful childhood memories, rest in peace you Roughyed.
Lovely chap, great actor, he was excellent in She which I was raised on, and many other things, hope he had a cup of tea before he went. Rest Easy, Bernard.
Our local radio played The Bay City Rollers Bye Bye, Baby for Bernard Cribbins. We LOVE ❤️ him sooo very much. We remember him in Jack-a-nory. He did the most Jack-a-norys. Yes, and we sooo love him in The Railway Children. One of our favourite movies. R. I. P., Bernard Cribbins😭 We ❤️ You GOD bless you with love from Roy and Jacqueline xxxxx 💛💙💛💙💛💙 🥰🇯🇲🏴🕊️🔥✝️
I was reintroduced to him again in "Old Jack's Boat" when my son was small. I'm not sure whether I or my son enjoyed that series more! He was a very good story teller and, even as an adult, I would hang on his every word. All good things come to pass, but his passing leaves a large hole that will probably not be filled any time soon.
I watched the original 1970s Railway children with my a wife on Tuesday 26th July 2022, as she had never seen the film, we laughed at Perks (Bernard Cribbens) what a funny and humble guy, brilliant actor and narrator will be missed by all. God bless Bernard and his family at this very sad time. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
A big part of my childhood and more recently as my favourite Dr Who companion. Dear Bernard you will live on eternally. Sleep well like Tobermory. Absolute legend and will be sorely missed 😭
RIP Bernard Cribbins, what a legend of stage and screen. Fantastic in Doctor Who brilliant as the voice of the Wombles and smashing in two carry on films.
Currently having a sob session, this guy was my entire childhood. I only found about about this 20 minutes ago and I’m devastated. I loved this guy so much. I cant believe he has passed. RIP Bernard and my favourite little boat man ❤️
Another one of our finest legendary actors has left us. He has given us so many laughs and played so many iconic roles over many years, he is part of British culture. ŔIP Bernard.
I'm really sad to hear about this. I met Bernard back in 2009 at my very first Doctor Who convention, in Cardiff. I got his autograph and he was a lovely guy to talk to. I remember tending to a part of his stage talk (I was waiting for something to be done before I left) and he talked about the Wombles - he mentioned about spending ages in the recording room, just doing snoring noises for Great Uncle Bulgeria lol
Oh no…not Bernard Cribbens!! The world has fallen apart. “Railway Children”, “Jackanory”, “The Wombles” and “Fawlty Towers”. I’m 55 and not ashamed to say I grew up listening to Bernard in the 70’s and 80’s. Thanks Bernard.
Oh what sad, sad news, he was a fantastic, versatile actor and all round performer, very few could match the length and breadth of his life and career! I loved him throughout, what a man, what a presence, how we shall miss him and his kind, god bless you Bernie/xxx
This shocked me, as me and my family were literally talking about him the other day! I used to watch Old Jack's Boat when I was younger (I'm now 18), and it's such a shame that he didn't get to see the release of The Railway Children's sequel. Thanks for the memories, Bernard. We'll miss ya, pal.
Too many classics to mention but my favourites are Mr Hutchinson in Fawlty Towers (P Off), Peter Cushing’s valet in She and The Wrong Arm of the Law with Peter Sellers and Lionel Jeffries oh and of course The Wombles. He was also in Doctor Who back when it was good.
Having just found out this very sad news, I just want to say Mr Cribbins is a true legend and thanks to the moving picture he always will be. Many people around the world will take a shorter breath and remember the joy and pleasure this gentleman has and continues to give us, God bless you sir and thank you for being our friend.
Beautiful beautiful Bernard cribbins..one of my favourite comedy heroes..loved this man..beautiful. rip you lovely man. For you I hope there is a heaven..if anyone deserved it. Rip. Xxx
''A good performer'', according to a Parachute Regiment training report, from 1947 to 1949. Somewhat understated compared to his later career, but a most cherished character to all who remember him. To anyone who bought his 'Hole in the ground' record, just try the flip side, a wonderful rendition of 'Winkle Picker Blues'.
Should have been Sir Bernard. For all the times you had us your fans in stitches. A true actor who had us enthralled with your so many characters. Remembering your unique voice while listening to Paddington Bear and Jackanory. RIP to a great performer and gentleman.
