If you have your bachelors, and want a fulfilling career with good income potential. Get you CAPM, then PMP and if you grind and network you could become a Director. Its all up to you.
I recently finished the Google project management certification courses and now am starting to prep for the CAPM, I am going to get all teh resources you mentioned and am setting a target 3 months out to take the exam. Thank you for all the valuable information you provide in these videos, I always look forward the the new ones each week!
Appreciated your effort in making a practice exam for free, but I notice one question and would like to confirm if there is a typo in this question. Isn't "broad skillset" equal to "broad specialisation"? 4. In an adaptive environment, which of the following is NOT a true statement? a. The project manager should help create a collaborative environment b. It is recommended for the team members to have a narrow skillset c. It is recommended for the team member to have a broad skillset d. Customers are continuously engaged to provide feedback on project deliverables AREA: Agile Answer: C, Agile Practice Guide Team members in an adaptive environment are recommended to have a broad specialization.
Glad you're finding my content helpful! You're right, that is a typo on my end - Agile teams should be made up of "generalizing specialists" (aka. T-Shaped People) who have a deep specialty in one area, and then a "broad" breadth of experience across multiple skills, instead of only one specialization. So, the correct answer to the question should have been choice B, and not Choice C (Agile team members are recommended to be T-Shaped, and to have a broad skillset, to help other people when/where necessary)
@Victoriagibbs7191, I'm so glad you found the video helpful! I will be posting a video in the future about the steps to pass the new CAPM Exam, so definitely stay tuned for when that gets released! You can do it, and soon you'll be Certified in Project Management!
I had a few questions if you don't mind answering. I recently used pmtraining's ?'s (and only that as a source) and would score in the 90%'s. But I failed the CAPM. Are you suggesting to read the PMBOK and pmtraining's course slides (~350 pgs). Is it a question of memorizing everything in these 2 sources? How can one study for 3 months and take CAPM and pass? Is this considering doing it F/T? That's not possible 4 me. Given that I just took the exam, a lot of things are fresh but pmtraining's questions are on one level and the CAPM had totally different ?'s. Are you suggesting highlighting every page of PMBOK and the course slides? Unless, one goes and buys pocketprep & project-management-prep and just takes these exams over & over and not have to worry about any book reading.
Thank you for this didactic and informative video. I want to ask about business analys part of exam. Which book is most recommended ? Since I have little time for prep, which book contain enogh info on this field?
How do we get eligible for the 23-hour studying for capm , does this help? do we need to take a course or there are free courses for the study hrs required
I believe I answered your question in your other comment in the other video - I'll copy and paste it here, so you can see it: For the 23 hours requirement, you can use any educational course taught at a university, in-person course, or online platform (such as Coursera or Udemy).
Thank you for your detailed videos, Alvin! I have recently bought the CAPM Exam Prep by Rita from Amazon... Does that mean it's not worth the time to read through that book anymore due to the syllabus change? :(
Her book is still extremely helpful, because you'll absolutely learn the in and outs of the Predictive Approach, and best practices of how to work as a Project Manager. It's what helped me get established and learn how to better manage my own projects. For studying for the CAPM Exam, I recommend skimming her book and finding the chapters that directly correlate to the topics in PMI's new Exam Content Outline. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much! I just brought both books you described in the description do I read everything in the books? That’s a lot of information how can I go about narrowing the information down for me to remember all of it?
@enticingteee, here's what I recommend. Print out the updated CAPM Exam Content Outline (since this is what your exam will be based off of) and look up the concepts in the books that are explicitly referred to in PMI's ECO. That way, you don't have to read all the pages in the book, and only focus on the key concepts, such as the Requirements Traceability Matrix, product roadmap, product backlog, requirements gathering, acceptance criteria, etc. While you're going through each Domain, take practice questions from Pocket Prep and Prepcast specific to the Domain you're studying (refer to the links I shared in the Description Bar) on a daily basis to strengthen your knowledge in these areas, and to familiarize yourself with topics you'll actually be tested on. This might seem like a lot of work, however, the work you do right now will completely establish your knowledge in Project Management, so you can converse during interviews for Project Manager roles, and actually speak Project Management Lingo. I'll be releasing a more in-depth video of how to pass the CAPM Exam, so be sure to stay tuned! I hope this helped out!
@Alvinthepmofficial I am completing the Google PM Cert. I'm currently doing the Course 6 capstone. I'm getting started with studying for the CAPM. I'M so nervous I don't know where to start.
im on the 6th Course as well , i have no experience what so ever in project management and didn't even know i would be having to take the CAMP Exam. After a couple of days of researching , i know its possible to do it , I've seen so many youtube reviews of people passing the exam "above target". I don't feel like the google courses have prepared me enough to take the exam yet and will be following this video as a study guide on what to do next. Best of Luck! @@mburks1171
Nevermind i saw it thanks. Earning your CAPM certification means automatically meeting the 35 hours of project management education and training required to sit for the PMP exam.
As I share in the video, Pocket Prep is an exam prep app that has a very robust and comprehensive Question Bank to help you pass the CAPM Exam. If you're looking for a 23-hour course, this can be already fulfilled if you've taken the Coursera Google Project Management Program, or an actual CAPM Exam Course that specifically states it meets the 23 hours. I'll be posting a more detailed video about this, so stay tuned!
If you have the PMBOK 6th edition, you can still keep it, since it covers the different Knowledge Areas and Processes applicable for a Predictive Project, and vocabulary in a different format than the latest PMBOK 7th Edition.
@e23700, I recommend checking out the links I shared in the Description Bar so you get the most latest and accurate information, in case it changes in the future. I personally used Prepcast to pass my own CAPM Exam, and I think it's well worth the investment so you'll have the experience taking a 3-hour long simulator, which also has very robust answers & explanations.
Hi, thank you for your very informative videos. Researching the Rita Mulcahy's CAPM exam prep book, i see that there is a Fifth Edition now. Would you recommend getting the fifth edition instead of the fourth?
in my opinion, its probably a good option for people like myself who have no experience , & also i think it looks good on the resume and helps get a higher Pay.
