I just PASSED my CAPM today on my first try. I was so nervous not truly knowing what to expect. Did I study enough questions, did I not study enough. But I did it. Alvin, your videos and tips were so helpful. However, I had to accelerate my studying time because my CAPM application will expire in October. I still had three tries remaining. So, I decided to just dive in and immerse myself in all things CAPM and studied for one month. So, if I did not pass, I still had enough time to take the test two more times. But I passed so mic drop... Your content was very, very, helpful. I will recommend anyone to use your content to help prepare for the CAPM. I will be focusing on my PMP after the new material is released. So, I will be looking out for your PMP PBOK 7th edition videos. THANK YOU!

I purchased your exam simulator stuff. Took test 1 got above target on all but one. I hope the CAMP is sorta like your two tests. Prepcast tests are a lot harder and pocket prep is okay. My test is Saturday, March 5th 2022.
@Johnathan Steil, if you scored Above Target on all except one on my simulator, then you will be in a really great spot to take your CAPM Exam this Saturday! Good luck, and keep me posted with how the exam goes!
@@alvinthepmofficial I took your second 150 question exam tonight. Got 123 out of 150 correct. Above Target in all but 2 areas. Refreshed myself on the two I needed improvement in. Some questions were the tricky ones and other were ones I hadn't read about or forgot. I even found myself saying no Alvin your wrong only to read your answer and compare with my book and then I would say well Alvin was correct. I also took your ITTOs worksheet and made it horizontal instead of vertical and it was easier to see patters for me.

@Leroy Jackson, the CAPM Exam is STILL based on the PMBOK 6th Edition. PMI will give everyone a 2 month notice BEFORE the exam switches to the NEW CAPM Exam Content Outline. Hello Alvin, thanks for making this video. It is helpful. I want to know the best book for capm exam prep guide which is most relevant to pmbok 6th edition.
I'd recommend getting Rita's latest CAPM Exam Prep Book Edition. As of today's date, it should be the 4th edition. By using the latest edition, it'll have the most latest information covered on the test and from the PMBOK 6th Edition and not previous versions.

@Jakob, I believe I already responded to you through email, but in case I haven't, I recommend having Rita's Exam Prep Book, as she breaks down each of the Knowledge Areas and makes it easier to understand. The PMBOK Guide is a good reference aid to look something up, if you're not familiar with a specific term, or need to dig a little bit deeper.
Hi Alvin! I'm almost finished with Joseph Phillips's Udemy course and am wondering if you think it's necessary to purchase the PMBOK Guide-6th Edition as well. I'm trying to decide between just paying the CAPM exam fee or becoming a PMI member and then getting a discount on the CAPM exam fee (and also then the PMBOK Guide-6th Edition as a part of my membership). If I don't have to spend the extra money, I don't want to, but I will if it's worth it.
Hi, I've been following your tips and they are very helpful! this question is for anyone who knows the answer: is it okay to put the CAPM certificate on my resume if I haven't taken the exam yet?
@Sabianca Desir, I recommend stating on your resume that you are in progress with taking your CAPM and it's expected by a certain date. For example, CAPM Certification - In Progress, Estimated 08/2022, or something similar to this. Hope this helps!

Hey Alvin, I had a question for you. Did you read the entire PMBOK guide 6 before you started reading the CAPM Exam prep book by Rita. As I think there a lot of things not covered in the prep book compared to the pmbok guide.
Hi Anshuman, that's a great question. From my personal experience, Rita's CAPM Exam Prep book only covered the most important information from the PMBOK Guide, and did not cover everything. To make sure I filled in all the gaps and understood all the T&T, Inputs, Outputs that weren't covered, I skimmed through the PMBOK Guide. I hope that helps!

Hi Alvin, Do you think volunteering work can count as experience to take the PMP exam. ? I really have a huge background as a leader in volunteering ONG organizations, and I have had countless projects so far... But they are all volunteering and student level projects... So If I pass the CAPM and have more than three years of experience in volunteering projects,Will I be able to take the PMP exam after graduating college ? I have almost two years left to finish college ...
@Iazayoi, PMI states on their Checklist here that the project entries are to represent "professional project work experience only". Check this document out here for detail, from PMI's document: www.pmi.org/-/media/pmi/documents/public/pdf/certifications/your-pmp-application-checklist.pdf?v=598ade6b-8bd6-4ef5-a7d6-1d363a2b93d0
thank you so much for this video, I have already seen Joseph Phillip's udemy course I am not sure how should I go ahead right now, I am very confused how to get myself ready for the exam, any tips bro ? I checked out the website - there do you have a ITTOS notes?
Hi Deepanshu, I'm really glad that you found this video helpful! Watching Joseph Phillip's Udemy course is a really great start. I recommend purchasing a CAPM Exam Prep Book (such as Rita's) and begin reviewing each Knowledge Area, and using my Practice Workbook to help diagnose your weaknesses and see what areas you need to improve. If you haven't grabbed my free Practice Workbook already, make sure to download it at: www.alvinthepm.com/ebook Regarding the ITTO Notes - I have posted all of my ITTO Notes for all Knowledge Areas on my website - head on over here to use it as part of your Exam Prep: www.alvinthepm.com/capm-exam/ I know how challenging the ITTOs can be, and I'll be posting upcoming Weekly Videos on Mastering the ITTOs for each Knowledge Area. I'll be covering the most critical concepts and terms for each ITTO, so stay tuned! ☺️
To my knowledge, I haven't found a direct answer from PMI on what the passing score is. My advice would be to do your best to score at least 70% on practice exam simulators, and you'll be on the right path to passing your actual CAPM Exam!
Hi Neelam, you can definitely use Rita's PMP Prep Book 9th Edition as it overlaps and covers many of the same concepts which are tested on the exam! However, just keep in mind that the PMP Exam is 100% strictly focused on situational-based questions, whereas the CAPM Exam will directly test your knowledge on the concepts. I recommend referring to PMI's CAPM Exam Content Outline so you can see the specific percentages that each Knowledge Area is covered. (This will be different than what is covered on the PMP Exam). Also, if you'd like practice questions to prepare for the CAPM Exam, don't forget to download my Free Practice Workbook using this link: www.alvinthepm.com/ebook/
I'm glad that this is helping you with your CAPM Exam Prep! I'm going to be releasing a video this week going over additional CAPM Exam Practice Questions, including the Earned Value Analysis equations. So, stay tuned! :)
Hi Alvin. Now that the seventh edition is available, is the Udemy course on sixth edition still relevant? Can you guide on the study material references as per the seventh edition? TIA.
@Jyotika, the Udemy Course on the PMBOK 6th Edition is still relevant, since the CAPM Exam is still based off of the 6th Edition. This is noted on PMI's website on the top section: www.pmi.org/certifications/certified-associate-capm I hope this helps! When are you taking your CAPM Exam?
Pocket Prep was a very helpful tool which helped me understand many of the key terms and concepts covered on the exam. It definitely helped prepare me on a daily basis for the exam. i would recommend it, even if you can only get the free version. The level of difficulty was somewhat similar. If you can deduce the correct answers to the Pocket Prep questions and understand why you're getting each question incorrect, you'll be in a really great spot to take your CAPM Exam!
Could I take a PMP live training course and pass the CAPM or they cover two different things I’ve tried studying on my own for months and it doesn’t work for me
Hi J Mariah, I'm really glad that you found my video! Check out this link for all of the resources that I personally used when I was preparing for my own CAPM Exam: www.alvinthepm.com/resources/ The PMP Exam is different than the CAPM Exam, as the PMP Exam has a 50%/50% split covering the Agile/Hybrid framework and the Predictive/Waterfall approach. The PMP Exam is also primarily situational based, which means that all practice questions would be 'situational' and not as ITTO-based or factual-based as the CAPM Exam. I hope that helps out! For a CAPM Exam Course, I highly recommend checking out Joseph Phillip's Udemy CAPM Exam Seminar Prep Course which you can usually purchase at a discounted price of ~$12 or so when the course goes on sale. I personally used this as I began studying for the CAPM Exam.
@J N, I wanted to focus my efforts on the areas which would be tested in the most frequency. I first focused on understanding the concepts from the Udemy Course and then reviewed Rita's CAPM Exam Prep - definitely recommend as a valuable exam prep resource if you don't have a copy. How's your CAPM Exam studying going, and when do you plan on taking it?
I am currently in the last two months of my senior year in high school. I am currently working in construction right now pouring footings. Do I need to go to college to become a project manager or can I just get my certifications ?
@Kyle, I'm glad you were able to find my videos! Nice job with already starting your career out working in construction and getting ahead start. In order to apply to take the CAPM Exam, you need to have a secondary degree (such as a high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent), as well as 23 hours of formal project management education. Check out timestamp 3:05 of my previous video on the CAPM Certification Requirements: ruclips.net/video/8aCF25q9HQI/видео.html Once you have a high school diploma and you obtain your 23 hours of project management education (this can be done through a Udemy course, which I talk about in my video), you'll be able to apply to take the CAPM Exam. For more details from PMI's website, check out their link here: www.pmi.org/certifications/certified-associate-capm
Hi Alvin, A quick question, I am currently doing Google Data Analytics Courses on Coursera. Should I do the Google Project Management course and take the CAPM exam? Will a CAPM certification be helpful in a Fresher Data Analytics job search resume?
Hi Anant, thanks for reaching out! If you have the bandwidth, going through both the Google Project Mgmt Course and the CAPM Exam will give you skills that you can use in any career choice you pursue, since most jobs involve having to do Project Management to some degree. For example, having to manage your own project or being a part of a subteam that is involved with creating a SW app or designing a new feature. When you apply to future Data Analytics jobs, I think that having a CAPM Certification could potentially help open up job opportunities since it shows you've taken the initiative to obtain a technical foundation not just in Data Analytics, but also in Project Management. This could help distinguish yourself from other candidates, who may not have this technical skillset, and help set you apart from others during the interviewing process. I hope this helps out!
@@alvinthepmofficial Thank you for taking the time to get back with such an insightful reply! Yes I think as soon as I am able to finish my data analytics course, I will start doing the Project Management course. I have already attempted a few sample papers, and I feel as if I know a lot of it intuitively, as I am a mechanical engineering graduate and we have been taught a lot of those processes in college.
Hi Alvin, I just came across your YT as looking for information on CAPM, I have a question regarding the 25 hours requirement, I took a 7-week long selective in my university about Project Management in Technological Communication, worth 3 credits, and use PMP prep book as textbook~ I was wondering if this course qualifies me to meet the 25 hours requirement? Thank you for your time!
@My campfire meals, Per PMI's statement on their CAPM Exam site, as long as the course contains "23 hours of project management education completed by the time you sit for the exam", then you should be all set! Just make sure you keep a copy of the physical transcript showing your proof of the class and the # of hours that it qualifies for, in case you get audited on your application. Check out this page for more detail on the CAPM Exam requirements: www.pmi.org/certifications/certified-associate-capm

Can someone please tell me if IT IS WORTH IT TO BUY THE 7th edition OF the PMBOK (Rather than the 6th edition)? The reviews on Amazon don't reassure me.
@Marlene, The PMBOK 7th Edition can be worth it, especially if you plan on taking the PMP Exam in the future. It isn't a must right now, if you plan on taking your CAPM Exam by the end of this year, since it's currently based off the PMBOK Guide 6th Edition.
I have just started studying for the CAPM and I am planning on taking it in a few weeks. Your video was highly helpful in deciding a studying plan for myself. Thank you Alvin and keep doing what you are doing. You are actually helping a lot of people.

Hi Oigres, thanks for reaching out! I actually created my own CAPM Exam Package which goes over this and also includes my study plan, strategies, plus all of my worksheets, cheat sheets, and study guides. Many others have also used this to pass their own exam, and I encourage you to check it out as well: www.alvinthepm.com/exam/
Hey Alvin, You have been really helpful! Could you please lemme know if a fresher with a background in computer science can get a job after completing this exam? Also, what are the opportunities and career opportunities open for someone looking to work in IT domain? What do u think abt this?
@Madhuri - I'm glad that I've been able to help out! (: From my personal experience, I think that having this Certification can help distinguish yourself from other candidates, especially if you're a fresh graduate looking for career opportunities. It'll show that you have a fundamental understanding of Project Management. During your interviews, you can discuss how you're a "self-starter" since you've taken the initiative to learn more about Project Management, became Certified, and how you would love to apply this to help streamline processes and make things easier for the team in your IT position. It's a really great way to "sell" yourself, since I know how competitive it can be to apply. I hope this helps out!
Hey Alvin , Thank you for your valuable guidance. I have studied Project management as an elective subject with 45 hrs of course in my college , How can I add this to min. criteria ? love from India .
Hi Suraj, I'm really glad that you're finding my guidance helpful! As long as you can document on the CAPM Application that you meet the minimum 23 hours of project management education, as well as have a Secondary diploma (high school diploma/global equivalent), you should be able to apply to take the CAPM Exam. Check out my list of resources for detail of everything I used to prepare for the CAPM Exam: www.alvinthepm.com/resources/ I hope this helps out!
@Kaushal, As I've mentioned in the video, I recommend using Rita Mulcahy’s CAPM Exam Prep 4th Edition, and a copy of the PMBOK Guide 6th Edition. These were the two main books I used to prepare and pass my own exam. For Exam Simulators and a set of practice questions, I highly encourage you to check out my CAPM Exam Simulator Package, as it's something I personally created, and which many others have used to pass Above Target on their own exam. If you're interested, grab your copy here: www.alvinthepm.com/exam/
@Diane Gonzalez, Rita's CAPM Exam Prep Book 3rd edition was published back in September 2013, and may not cover the same updates that were captured in her 4th Edition, which was published in 2018, and may reflect old terminology and nomenclature regarding the Process Groups and some specific ITTOs. However, I do believe that the Processes will be the same (Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitor & Controlling, and Closing). If you study from her 3rd Edition Prep Book, make sure you reference the PMBOK 6th Edition because that is what the CAPM Exam is based off of, per PMI's Exam Content Outline. If you combine this with my Exam Simulator Package, you will be all set to pass. If you're interested in my CAPM Package, which contains two simulators to help you gain the confidence to pass your CAPM Exam, plus all of my cheatsheets, study guides, and workbooks, I encourage you to grab your copy here: www.alvinthepm.com/exam/ Other students have used it to pass their CAPM Exam Above Target, and their success stories can be found here: www.alvinthepm.com/capm-success/ I hope this helped point you in the right direction! Good luck studying for your CAPM Exam!
@@alvinthepmofficial Thank you! I do have the 6th ed PMBOK and will reference on this. Will do checkout the CAPM package once ive established study schedule etc ! :)Thanks again
I don't understand. You say do not memorize the ITTOs, yet you wrote down every single one in a notebook and reviewed them. So what's the purpose of writing them all down if not to memorize them?
@E. Castillo, I read Rita's CAPM Exam Prep book to study for my CAPM Exam, and I took notes from her Exam Prep book of the ITTOs in my notebook to get used to the different lingo and all the terminology. I recommend only understanding them at a high-level and not going into this much detail. On your exam, you'll be able to use the Process of Elimination to figure out the answers to ITTO Questions. For a high-level overview of each of the processes, I encourage you to check out my CAPM Exam Notes which you can find here, for each of the 10 Knowledge Areas: www.alvinthepm.com/capm-exam/ Hope that helps, and good luck studying for your CAPM Exam!

Hi Alvin, I've opted for business analytics (more data oriented) and Project Management-IT(both 1 1 year). Can I work as a Business Analyst (management role) upon completing these courses? Will CAPM be advantageous for Business analyst roles?
@Varun, I would say so, since it will give you a solid foundation in managing projects and an understanding of the structured processes associated with project management. Not only that, it's a great resume booster when you apply to job positions, since it demonstrates your knowledge and willingness to deliver value to the organization you're applying to
@@alvinthepmofficial great, my 1st course is semi technical while 2nd course is non technical. So will technicalities be advantageous for managerial role?

Varshini, yep, that's correct. As of now, the CAPM Exam still remains the same and is still based upon the PMBOK 6th Edition. Hi Nithya, congratulations on taking the next step with the CAPM Certification, and advancing in Project Management! :) I personally recommend taking the exam in-person at a testing center, since you'll be given sheets of "scratch" paper, an erasable marker, and a hand-held mini calculator. This was very helpful for me, since I was able to write down my brain dump, and I used it as my "scratch pad" throughout the exam. I hope this helps out!

I did my best to allocate at least 1-2 hours on the weekdays, and a couple hours on the weekend studying my Exam Prep book and watching Joseph Phillip's Udemy course. Also, don't forget to grab my Free Exam Practice Workbook here: www.alvinthepm.com/ebook
Do I need the Rita Mulcahy book if I plan to purchase your Full Guide and I have the PMBOK and the Joseph Phillips guide.
Congratulations dear
Thank you so much Suresh! Best of luck with your CAPM Exam studying. You can do it!
Hi,
I just want to ask you - how much time did you spend everyday? I would like to make a similar schedule as you have, but not sure how much time it is needed.
Thank you in advance Alvin!
@Milan, I studied about 1-2 hours every day for my CAPM Exam, and was able to pass it within 6 weeks based on the strategies I listed in this video. Practicing questions on a daily basis really helped reinforce my knowledge and made sure I retained what I studying from Rita's CAPM Exam Prep Book. I hope that helps out! And, don't forget, if you'd like to practice additional questions or get access to my CAPM Exam Simulators, Workbooks, Cheat Sheets, and Guides, I recommend grabbing your copy of my Ultimate CAPM Exam Simulator by using this link here: www.alvinthepm.com/exam/

Along with the PMBOK Guide, I used Rita's CAPM Exam Prep Book 4th Edition. I hope this helps out!
Alvin, if I have failed the CAPM exam, do you think I should start with the below target and needs improvement area and just study those? And then do a high level of the stuff I do know? I’m working on also doing a daily brain dump sheet

Hey Alvin is it okay to study from Rita’s 9th & 10th edition Exam prep for Capm exam in 2022? Because I can’t find the Pmbok 6th edition
Hi, Alvin, do you also recommend this book CAPM/PMP Project Management Certification All-In-One Exam Guide, Fourth Edition by Joseph Phillips? Just Rita Mulcahy's book is a little more expensive to get it on Amazon. Thank you for your video and time.

If you haven't grabbed my free Practice Workbook already, make sure to download it at: www.alvinthepm.com/ebook
Regarding the ITTO Notes - I have posted all of my ITTO Notes for all Knowledge Areas on my website - head on over here to use it as part of your Exam Prep: www.alvinthepm.com/capm-exam/
I know how challenging the ITTOs can be, and I'll be posting upcoming Weekly Videos on Mastering the ITTOs for each Knowledge Area. I'll be covering the most critical concepts and terms for each ITTO, so stay tuned! ☺️
Hi Alvin, how many questions i need to get it correct to pass CAPM exam?
To my knowledge, I haven't found a direct answer from PMI on what the passing score is. My advice would be to do your best to score at least 70% on practice exam simulators, and you'll be on the right path to passing your actual CAPM Exam!
Thank you, Sir Alvin.
I'm really glad my video is helping you out! Good luck with your Exam Prep! :)
Can we not prepare for CAPM using Rita malcahy PMP Prep book 9th edition after all PMP is bigger picture of CAPM exam? Correct me if I am wrong here.
Thank you very much really helpful......
This is noted on PMI's website on the top section: www.pmi.org/certifications/certified-associate-capm
I hope this helps! When are you taking your CAPM Exam?
How good was Pocket Prep regarding the style of questions on your exam? Moderately similar, / very different?
Check out this link for all of the resources that I personally used when I was preparing for my own CAPM Exam:
www.alvinthepm.com/resources/
The PMP Exam is different than the CAPM Exam, as the PMP Exam has a 50%/50% split covering the Agile/Hybrid framework and the Predictive/Waterfall approach.
Curious - was there a reason for the particular order of your study schedule, aside from the weight of the exam questions?
Hi Alvin,
A quick question, I am currently doing Google Data Analytics Courses on Coursera.
@Marlene, The PMBOK 7th Edition can be worth it, especially if you plan on taking the PMP Exam in the future. It isn't a must right now, if you plan on taking your CAPM Exam by the end of this year, since it's currently based off the PMBOK Guide 6th Edition.

Hello do you by any chance know the difference of the CAPM 3rd and 4th ed book? Someone gave me a 3rd ed and im hoping it is enough along with PMBOK
