    It's kind of odd, but I always loved the Shimmering Flats, and always looked forward to questing there. The zone should by any means be considered boring, but I love it. There's something special about getting there, picking up 10+ quests and just running around in a giant circle, and return to get almost a full level's worth of exp. At level 30+ is also when your character really starts to feel like your own, and you begin getting some of your iconic class abilities. Call me strange, but Shimmering Flats remains one of my favorite vanilla zones of all time.

    • @Jonasgp123
      @Jonasgp123 3 месяца назад +6

      Fully agree. The simplicity of the zone and quests are a nice break from the intricacies of previous zones. Here are no "needles" to climb or caves to explore. Just run, slay and gather.

    The "middling middle" was totally different in the original game. It was a literal and proverbial desert. When instant messengers were barely in existence and texting cost money per character, you used the mmo to socialise. It was very easy to find players and do things in the early game, and if you made it to late game it was probably with a guild. But in the 40s and 50s everything that gave experience became further and further away from the social hubs. As a middler schooler I remember it took me a year to get from 40 to 63 because I preferred hanging out in Goldshire or Ironforge and talking to friends instead of spending hours running to Tanaris and back.

    • @Pompomatic
      @Pompomatic 3 месяца назад +2

      Had a similar experience! Took me an obscene amount of time to get from ~40 to 60, because I spent so much time Durotar, Thunder Bluff and Westfall with my Troll

    I remember doing this questline with my cousin back in vanilla. When we finished it we equipped the trinket and rode around the shimmering flats singing Queen's Under Pressure but instead of singing "People on streets" we sung "Carrot on a Stick! E da de da de!" while going 3% quicker. I will never forget it. Good times.

    Got some trivia to add:
    Marvon Rivetseeker, a goblin situated in some trollish ruins in Tanaris, employs our brave heroes to collect so called "Gahz'ridian Ornaments". These can be found all over Tanaris. Luckily Marvon also hands out a nifty helmet to more easily locate them. These artifacts lend credence to the theory that Gahz'rilla may be revered as a god. Maybe as a replacement for a lost Loa? Though one must wonder if Aku'mai, the terror of Lathar'Lazal, also plays a role in this fascinating tale.

    Zul'farrak always seemed like an exceptional case.
    It's quest variety and how spread across the world they are (and the fact it's an 'outdoor' dungeon) is a real treat
    The mallet especially feels like a precursor to something like the Sceptor of the Shifting sands. Would absolutely love to see you cover that in the same fashion in the future!
    You did a fantastic job of intertwining the Zul lore with the story of the quest.

    just Ill never forget, and will always be sad that area is now a flooded mess

    I’d love an mmo Nat Geo discovery channel type lore documentary series that just randomly deep dives into very intriguing and interesting topics for areas in a variety of different mmos like this. Discovering new worlds, cities and towns where you treat these places like the real areas that the devs wanted to create with its own history, culture of people and ongoings. I don’t personally play WoW but these are genuinely interesting with the combination of an interesting story to tell, your editing and voice over. I’ll be subscribing and watching this channel grow! You have a great talent!

I vividly remember my first visit and how I was inexplicably drawn to it. Its fascinating: I think gameplay wise we can all agree, the Shimmering Flats and its ilk are absolutely atrocious, but I loved the kdea of areas in WoW that weren't made entirely with player utility in mind. There are places in the world that just *are*, regardless of whether that serves humans or not, it makes sense that some zones in WoW should be the same

    Cataclysm's drastic change to the Thousand Needles did at least come with some cool things, despite probably making it less fun to explore as it once was. (I never had the chance to do so sadly, but I imagine there was more to do down below the "needles.") The Speedbarge for starters, is a neat little area, and you can start bar fights there. There's a dude selling Ice Cream somewhere too, if I recall that right.
    But I think the thing that hits me hardest is the dead Whale Shark in the waters. Really puts into perspective how powerful that flood coming in must've been if one of those bastards got stuck there. It also gave me a good fear of the water there generally, despite the fact there are no live Whale Sharks. Those things are massive and WILL put the fear of God into you, even if you're close to their level and if they catch you unaware.
    But I have got to say still, the original Thousand Needles was still much more interesting, but that's probably more because I never got to experience it myself.

    That was a great video! I remember it quite well in the shimmering flats. I kind of enjoyed it. It was a very plain plane. It felt like it had been something bigger at some other point. Like some basin of water or something. It was, in all its deadness, somewhat awe-inspiring.
    I really enjoyed the background on the Zul Empire. Back in the day when it was rumored that night elves had been trolls but mutated through magic I did get really interested in this kind of wayback lore of the empires before the empires.
    I would love a video about the “Smiling Jim” quest in dustwallow - Smiling Jim in Theramore to the burnt down Tavern. Back in the day I did the quest on different characters, Horde and Alliance, even though it was a bit of a hassle. But I always thought that I might’ve missed something. Then I found out there is nothing to miss, it just never happened. That it had been meant to be a quest for Horde and Alliance to work together, on but it just never happened in the final version of the game. I would love to see a video about it.
    Also the “The missing diplomat” quest chain. Does anyone else feel like it was cut short, like it does not really resolve any of the questions that it created?

    The history of trolls is something I find extremely fascinating as a part of WoW's lore so your segment covering the quest's continuation in the hinterlands was very intriguing to me. In the video you assumed that the altar of Zul was named after Zul the Prophet contrary to Loa. This is actually correct to assume that he had become a semi-godlike individual as the empire of Zul was the original troll civilization and the biggest most powerful variant (that would eventually split into the Gurubashi, Amani, and Drakkari. I doubt that Zul the prophet in BFA is the same Zul perhaps he was named in honor of the old empire or a figurehead within it. But the prophet himself saved countless Troll lives due to his foretelling of the cataclysm. King Rastakhan had disregarded such a disastrous prophecy and when it had been proven right Zul was seen as a savior of near godlike status. It would make a lot of sense to see trolls whose lives had been touched by this event worship him as a savior.

  • @WalkthroughHorde
    @WalkthroughHorde 18 дней назад

    To be fair, the best way to reward a player for traveling across the world is to give them a way to do it faster lmfao.
    Also, the the riding bonuses are actually slightly more, because they multiply on top of eachother, and that multiplies on top of your mount speed. The slightly higher than 9% bonus becomes 14.8% when riding a 60% mount, and 18.5% on an 100% mount.
