    I don’t think you understand how IMPORTANT THIS SPEECH IS!!!
    Sally field was a tv star for many years and became know for her role as the flying nun.
    For years she tried to expand her career , but she could not get any serious roles in movies because all people saw because people would see her as “the flying nun”
    When she was finally nominated for her first Oscar, she was still seen as a tv star, a lower class entertainer who only could do comedy. That year she won, but was still seen as a “ only tv comedy actress” who happened to win an Oscar.
    It wasn’t until this year that she truly felt appreciated by the industry and proved that comedic actress can be as good and as talented as any other “serious” actress.
    And this still happens today. many tv actors and actresses who are extremely talented, cant get roles in movies because they are seen as a b list talent.

    • @janalalewicz7385
      @janalalewicz7385 2 года назад +23

      I dont think it was hated exactly but rather it was considered cringe-worthy lol. Theres such a thing as too much honesty and this is a perfect example. At the same time its incredibly sweet to lay yourself bare and to be so vulnerable. I dont think Sally Field knows how to be any other way. Shes extremely candid in interviews. This comment was like one of those things you may be thinking but what 99% of people wouldnt say out loud, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE IN HOLLYWOOD! Over the years it has endeared people to her but at the time(and yes I was watching-yup I am that old!) people didnt know how to react to it. Wow it just blew up and you hesrd it EVERYWHERE like a punch line. Comedians mocked the hell out of her. She would go on talk shows and had to relive it and explain herself over and over again. I think it was genuinely spoken from the heart. She was so vulnerable and shared her insecurity with every single person in that room. They all knew EXACTLY WHAT SHE MEANT when she said it but instead of appreciating her for speakingbout they laughed about it cause everyone else was laughing too. Can you imagine how SF must have felt? The shame of it all is I bet she was never THAT open again. She expected to be embraced by her peers(cause after all they "really liked her" right? Instead she was ridiculed. I remember her saying later on in interviews that she was really hurt by that at the time but she didnt dare show it. Kinda like people who take a chance and are moved to leave a comment HERE on youtube....something important enough to them that they want to share it with someone else but then some hateful turd chooses to take a dump on their comment and try to humiliate them. Thats gonna make you think twice about sharing your thoughts and feelings again so openly(not me cause Im a crusty, thick skinned old broad) Heres a thought.....Theres no such thing as a "stupid comment" because someone cared enough about something to share a bit of themselves with the world and sometimes its EXACTLY what another person needed to hear at that exact moment even tho the comment had no meaning to you. We dont have to like what someone else has to say but we should respect them for taking the risk to share themselves

Like Sarah Palin "saying" "I can see Russia from my house" -- a phrase Palin never uttered. Tina Fey said it in a comedy sketch, not Palin. And here -- the phrase some comic mocked Field with "You like me! You really like me!" is not what she said here. But the comic's version is what people are convinced they heard her say.

    I saw this live on TV in 85. She said "REALLY like me!" It was funny because this was her second Oscar, hence we "really" must have liked her. "You like me... RIGHT NOW!" is meaningless.

      You're missing the point. Sally Field never said "You like me! You really like me!" She actually said, "You like me! Right now... you like me!" The reason people remember it wrong is because everyone mentally edited her words in their own minds precisely because it made no sense. lol

      44excalibur this is called the Mandela effect!! it’s really interesting! here is another one: in star wars, Darth Vader says “Luke, i am your father”. but if you look up the clip he actually says “No, i am your father.” there are a lot of other examples and no one knows why this happens. i don’t understand how millions of people can remember something someway only to find out that it never was. (i have literally no idea if that sentence made sense😳) anyways, it’s really interesting and you should look into it :)

      The Oscars didn't change anything. What I think people who espouse the Mandela Effect are implying is that HISTORY changed. The UNIVERSE changed. We're no longer living in the universe where Sally Field said "You like me, you really, really like me!"
      It's the same phenomenon among people (like me) who SWORE it was "Bearenstein Bears", when in reality they are called the "Bearenstain Bears".

I dislike cynical, sarcastic comments about this wonderfully refreshing acceptance speech. cynics are cowards, they sit on the bleachers and critique others while winners , like Sally, puts herself on the field and plays big and wins big. you go Sally. TWO OSCARS and TWO EMMY's and TWO Golden GLobes. when you cynics win just one Oscar, then you can talk. until then shut the f up.

      Absolutely not true. Kinski, for a GOOD five-year stretch in the '80s, worked with some of the finest talent in the land, actor- and director-wise. She worked with the likes of Francis Ford Coppola, Wim Wenders, Tony Richardson, Hugh Hudson, and of course, Roman Polanski. Some of her leading men included none other than Ben Kingsley, Al Pacino, Dudley Moore, Nureyev, and Gerard Depardieu. Usually, she was in nicely-budgeted movies, with major talent all-around involved. So often, though, they turned out to be misfires -- but not always. It should be noted that even the "misfires" often had moments of greatness in them though.
