Hehehe. One night my best buddy and I made a speed run on a 70 mile trip back home. Normally it was an 90 minute ride. We did it in 35 minutes. At one point on the dead straight road section that was nine miles long he looked over at the speedo and said “You know you’re going to jail if we get stopped, right?” A few minutes later as we were about to hit the last road to home we saw a county boy had somebody pulled over ahead of us. The run ended for us at that moment. Cruised by nice and slow and got home safely. I know we could have made the run under 30 minutes if it weren’t for that sobering encounter. Bonus fun fact: This was in my Volvo 740 I had back then. Car just got smoother the faster it went.
@@elmeesio Very much underrated. My mom would “steal” mine from my work parking lot from time to time leaving me with her Camaro. She loved my car almost as much as I did.
If you think a 740 is smooth at speed, you should try something rwd german from after the 60’s. I love a 740/940, but they are just bad at high speeds compared to same age Mercedes or bmw. Even my ‘74 Mercedes was more stable at autobahn speeds then my ‘96 940.
When i had my plaid they recorded my RUclips channel with their body cams and sent it to local prosecutors. Took video off buildings and stop lights also. Reconstructed my speed. If anyone remembers situation plaid. That was me. Keep it on the track.
Drag racing is more of an engineering sport than a motorsport. Meaning, it's more of an exercise of mechanical engineering and technical abilities than pure driving skill.
I beg to differ. I appreciate drag racing and the skill required but driving an f1 car consistently for 50+ laps experiencing colossal G forces is the ultimate skill in my opinion. Top speeds of those in the quarter mile but braking 100m from the apex
@adamstilldrives true I mean ralley F1 saving a car from spinning put at high speed is rare in drag raceing but when you see ppl do it you know it took some skill as well
Definitely not worth street racing. I got friends that prefer street racing because "you have more room to go fast", not for me though. Sure, seeing what your car tops out at is cool, but trying to do that with someone else beside me on the street requires more trust in the other guy than I'm willing to give lol. At least at a track there's a whole team of people specialized in helping there ready to help.
I don’t consider doing 40 rolls on the streets, “street racing” I grew up in the 90s so I’m used to actually shutting down an entire strip and having everyone do digs, one driver is on the correct side one is going against traffic, that’s why we shut the street down so nobody for sure will be coming down as someone is racing. I’ve seen where things go wrong and cars lose traction and veer off into a building. And these weren’t slow cars. We still had 600-700hp cars. The Supra was always a player, the fc with v8 swap was huge. The 300zx was big for the streets. Then you have the fox bodies with nitrous that won every takeover. F bodies aka the catfish Camaro and the WS6 trans am and firebird were some of the best sounding v8s I’ve heard

Where I live we have some people who are car guys with private roads. If you want to run it on the street they’ll let people go on their road and run it. The big picture is that no part of racing is safe no matter if it’s a street race or a sanctioned event it’s not safe. That being said there are ways to minimize the dangers of racing. Motorsports have a bunch of rules and regulations for safety but for a street race you can’t really do that. The next best thing is to take it somewhere away from other people and try to make it as safe as possible that way. When I was younger we lost a lot of friends to street racing whether that be them getting arrested or them getting into terrible crashes. Since we’ve swapped over to a private road we haven’t lost a single person and that’s saying a lot since now everyone has at least 400hp where as before a lot of people barely even had 200.
