- Made for the Simply Slavic Festival in Youngstown Ohio USA
www.simplyslavic.org
Since we were unable to have our Simply Slavic in the Community dance lessons in advance of the virtual festival this year, Catherine was kind enough to record a Polka dance lesson for us at home. Please enjoy and practice your steps so you're ready for the virtual event on June 20, 2020 at 6:00pm - 7:30pm EST!
We dance polka in Mexico a little simmilar we just dont hop as much
My dad was a German immigrant and always listened to the Mexican radio station!
@@ZsaZsaUmbra In Wisconsin there was a station that played only polka music and it even became progressive enough to play Mexican Polkas as well! It made me very happy. I’m out of range for listening now. I wonder if it’s still around. Hmm… Cheers to all!
Check: Polka from Chihuahua Mexico (another level)
right lol
Omg! On point!
How fun!!! I grew up going to family weddings where it was all polka music and dancing.
ill be using your video january 7, 2021 for p.e. grade 3 for basic polka dance. thank you for sharing your knowledge
I like it. This offers a simple video with open views of the body position. Others may be very good dancers and even teachers in the ballroom, but their videos fall short. Instruction does not require fancy outfits, terrific music, or talking about your credentials. Just do the simple dance. The same is true for learning, right? Nibble the information in small bites, don't try to swallow the concepts in large gulps or you will choke.
Can anyone tell me the name of the polka music that is being played in this video? It was one of my mom’s favorites and I’ve never heard anywhere else until now.
Thank you for this. it is so much fun. I remember 60 years ago my Swiss grandmother and a partner dancing from the living room, into the dining room around the table and back to the living room again. The whole time they are pumping their arms up and down. My grandmother loved to dance. Thanks for bringing that memory back to me.
Love it! Play some Frank Yankovic!
Nice video 👍🏼 there are polka in the whole of Europe and What you do in a polka can sometimes be called something else in other countries.
And there will then be polka that are different in other countries that are different than the Eastern European countries but still polka 😊
Thank you, you have just attuned my need for some polka lmao
What is the first style called,? Thanks

Merci beaucoup ! Génial
I love this so much! Thank you! I am grabbing my Identical twin sister tomorrow and we are going to try it!
We are old souls in young bodies and Love watching old movies and shows. Especially the Laurence Welk Show. Love it we Mr. Welk dances his polka. And he does it with the hop.
I did select this video seeing you with your sister (?). It is hard to find any other young person that does real dancing anymore (at least where I live) and it is HARD to find guys. They think it's sissy or something. Not realizing MEN dance.
Really enjoyed, thank you again!
It looks like when you do the Chicago hop, when your foot goes back, it’s off to the side a little and the knees are kept together. Is that correct? Am I observing that correctly?
Good explanation.
Where was this video when I was a kid, This makes so much sense!!! Thank you for this. Hope to teach my 9 &10yos.
Adorable! 🤩
I was at dance practice in the middle of a mixer they threw in a polka no one knew what I was so I looked it up thank you so much that makes so much more sense now

please can you get a clip on mic for recording next time?
Please be culturally respectful and cognizant and know that POLKA is POLISH. POLKA literally means the female form of Polak which is Polka. As in a dancing Polish woman.
Polka is a Czech dance. It is only called that way, the Czech word for 'a Polishwoman', but it certainly originated in Bohemia
@@joannaszulc1496 Polka means Polish woman in Polish.
@@GrzegorzDurdacool but polka is still a Czech dance originally
