After foaming I've been using Shampoo in my Lance. 1 bucket for rinsing the Mit. Job done.
I tend to pre-wet my Truck with my pressure washer. Then Snow~foam it. Wait 3 to 4 minutes and then pressure wash it off. Then lightly dry it off with a micro fibre towel. The yellow towel can also highlight any dirt which escaped the snow-foam run off. I’m happy with the results and having an Agate Black Truck then the biggest culprit this year has been pollen dust!
Great vid John!
I’ve not contact washed my car since December, 20% touchless, 20% polar blast sticks really well, 10 minutes to soak and a good blast with the jet wash and it looks great!
It’s trashed straight after my first trip down the M4 so no need to risk the contact wash during winter!!
Good tip re that mix will give a try!
Agree but I find the dirt and salt sticks much harder and builds up in layers. Making the contact wash harder in April. I like the new Ammo approch with cloths, which can be washed to remove the dirt. Also 10min soak is too long for a caustic like polar blast (IMHO). My home pressure washer doesnt have much power though
I’ve found the key to touching the vehicle the least during a wash is having a good layer of protection on BEFORE you get it dirty. Along with a good thorough rinse and a good pre-wash foam, the contact wash will be a breeze. For me, it’s always worth doing both.
Believe me if they make a totally contactless foam wash I’ll be first in line lol
It all depends how dirty the car is. Some times of the year, I can just spay on a shampoo and rinse off, then apply a topper. Sometimes I can spray shampoo and then contact wash. Usually during the winter is when I need to do a pre-wash + contact wash.
Their are already far to many "Rules" with regards car care, not a single reason why you cant, if it works for you and your happy with the results just carry on doing it, its washing your care its not rocket science despite the number of people who will tell you otherwise.
I love this reply if you like the finish and your happy fuck em truest words spoken !!
Exactly my response. Do as you do. I personally love a snow wash and go. But ….. I sometimes remember my cheap quickness just wash after. Personal choice how far you go ones metal !!!!
Yeah you're right, but the thing is if you're gonna do something just do it properly, in this case as thoroughly as you can. What's stopping you? "I didn't want to buy car shampoo", like come on that's not good enough. Shampoo just works better I've tried snow foam contact and its just too thick and doesn't do the microfibre mitten any justice. In my opinion, it doesn't work well like a shampoo. Get that product, do it right and you'll be "happier". That's the keyword here. The shampoo i got wasn't even expensive, less than the cost of snow foam. And i dont think this is a "Rule", this is about doing something properly and not half-assing it. Again, my opinion guys.
Everyone can turn their low skill mundane jobs into RUclips channels now so they need to appear technical and professional.
Just had the car ceramic coated 10 days ago with Gtechnic and not driven until yesterday driving 450 miles return motorway journey. No time for full contact wash today, so tried Bilt Hamber Touchless for the first time. Did a pretty good job, maybe shifting 90% but being a black car it doesn’t look gleaming!
i just washed my car i coated 10 days ago, just used gyeon foam and pressure washed it off. It made the car 100% clean, i was so surprised. Wanted to wash it by hand after, but after seeing the results, there was absolutely no need.
My process was APC the whole car, but mainly the main dirt areas, driver/passenger doors, back wheels areas, boot area etc. Then Bilt Hamber Autofoam, the whole car, then snow shampoo foam (Adams Shampoo). I no longer use any APC or pre-wash product, as the Bilt Hamber Autofoam does a great job, especially in winter months, of removing at 90-95% of the dirt that I can see. And then a contact wash with a shampoo/foam. You don't have to use a snow foamer, but bought one with a short stubby gun, and love using it. And the car looks great again. You could get a way with just a snowfoam product, to loosen or get rid of dirt, and then a jet wash, and dry off. But your drying cloths may get dirty. It's all down to how much time, what look you want, what products you want to use. As long as you are happy, that's all that matters. Good video Jon, to get car detailers thinking and decide what process they prefer. I believe, polishing the whole car, is probably needed, every 6 months, to get rid of swirls, minor scratches etc, regardless what method you use.
Dessert dust? would that be sand 😂 great video, useful as always. I often find if the car is not too dirty the BH Auto foam gets the car "clean enough" until I can be arsed to give the car a "proper wash"
I use by touchless and just rinse off without contact wash in the winter in between contact washes.
haha, hard to get it even if you use a pressure washer, can look ridiculous
As a matter of fact I do exactly this (foam-rinse-foam-mitt-rinse) and get great results. I am not sure why you say you haven't found a product that can do both. I use Sonax Rich Foaming Shampoo and Actifoam Energy which both featured in some of your videos and both are marketed for use in foam cannons as well as regular contact washes.
Hey John! Great video as always! It’s interesting to hear your thoughts on how the climate affects what kind of product to use during washing. In Norway it’s common to spray on a petrochemical solution prior to the pre-wash during the winter months. The combination of the two works good on a typical salt/dirt film.
I tried this last week Jon !
After BH auto foam, my car looked quite clean, but after drying it the towels had a fair bit of dirt on them, so I'll stick to a final shampoo contact wash.
Nice video. Here in Denmark, we have a lot of salt and roadfilm in the winter. So I always prewash and then do the contact wash. If the car is very dirty, I take a pumpsprayer, and give some TFR or citrus prewash before snowfoam
Hi, what a very useful video! Just starting out with detailing etc. I’m using EZ Care products which seem to be good so far, however currently have a hose pipe ban so not been able to try out a couple of snow foams I have from them!
This video extremely useful! Thank you
Generally if I want excellent finish or the 'full hog' you can do the contact wash but if you want a quick hit...snow foam and rinse will usually do a good job for most people. Just make sure a good snow foam that gets that dirt off.
In the US we have a brand called Chem-X that has a true touchless 2 step snow foam system.
Ha ha that was me that asked can you use snowfoam after a pre Rinse as a shampoo , been watching too many USA channels I think .
That was a very drawn out way to say ."jez dont be a 22 carrot plonker , use shampoo like rest of us"
But thanks Jon, appreciate your content as always .
I think its a good question and I think the difference is not massive but I think you need both products ideally
The more pre contact washes you do, the cleaner the car. Dead simple. Especially if you use decent ones..... bilt Hamber for the win!
If we want to wash only with foam, I say that we should scrub and not wait for the foam to do all the work.
I continue to wash the car only with shampoo, I use TW's Hybrid and it's fantastic, and I scrub with a microfiber glove.
Great video John, I really enjoyed it, just for reference I always use pre wash, then a dedicated shampoo for my contact wash, but I can fully understand how some people may question whether it is necessary.
Just had abdominal surgery so I've been using BH Autofoam only, until I've mended... Not too bad but I think having Turtlewax Graphine on helps.
Public car washes make this a modern concept here. Fun foam on car, wash off, DI water rinse and go. It's half assed and not clean to my standarts, but it's convenient and you can just use a mitt on the foam, prewashing first of course.
last time I used a car wash they foamed the car, wheel cleaner in wheels. did wheels. then pressure washed the car really close to the paint. then spray wax, rinse aid it and dried with shammie. Really bad process in terms of damaging the paint but really efficent in terms of being able to churn through the the cars. And 99% would be happy with the results unless you are into detailing really.
I add 100ml of Citrus along with Bilt hamber snowfoam and there is never any need to do a contact wash.
What is that mitt/pad you pull out of the drawer? It's looks lovely and plush
I’ll stick with touch less in the pump sprayer and auto wash in the bucket - I actually like how auto wash is low sudsing as I find it easier to get off when rinsing
I use Chemical guys snow foam honeydew and had done all my washes for a few years and it's very good, will be using until empty.
So you are sort of saying, use a snow foam like Bilt Hamber touchless then use a milder snow foam like Meguiars for the touch clean after, still seems like a quick way to wash… you can use one bucket… as just a rinse bucket 🪣
use touchless then a contact wash shampoo yer (contact wash can be in the lance of in the bucket)
Yes. Yes. Yes you can. Just accept 95% good enough and BH TouchL does the job. If my own car id contact wash thereafter. To sell a cheaper price range car just touch-less or similar quality pre wash and go.
I've used snowfoams as shampoos but only for clients looking for polishing. Jax Wax Strip wash has been my go-to for this purpose. Simply foam on, wash and use a rinse bucket with a grit guard like normal. Am I inducing more swirls this way? Probably. But with the pressure washer I use and the vehicle being polished afterwards anyway, I still end up saving a bit more time in the long run.
Another good video John. I'm surprised you haven't got garage floor tiles.
I only use snow foam (no contact wash) on my 4x4 and then foam and contact wash on the weekend car
i enjoy your videos. Your garage is always tidy. your cars are immaculate. There is just one thing that bugs me, please clean the garage windows. 😃
i have done this before but now i put my shampoo in the foam and then wash it then i use a ceramic foam for protection.
Soap is soap. You can wash your car with fairy liquid or hair shampoo. After the fairy soap maybe put some wax or similar one. I never use the foam stuff, I bet no one can see the difference even after years of washing.
we been there mate, tested the whole fairy liquid thing. Its not ideal for car cleaning, and with the surfactant most dish soaps have a chunk of alcohol solvent in them. A good car shampoo will also offer a much lower cost per wash and use different surfactants to dish soap. But in theory dish soap is a good degreaser and does free rinse so yer you can use it and have good results. but the car soap I recomend is about 10 times cheaper cost per wash as well.
BH touchless then touch on in the winter months, BH touchless then gyeon bathe+ in the summer months
Jon. How about spraying a snow foam on a dry car, rinse. Then spray foam on a car shanpoo. 1 bucket of water, several mitts? Seems like that would save time?
Perfect method mate. Have a rinse bucket and 2 mitts. one for the bonnet and top and windows and another for the bottom door panels and front grill
BH Touchless, or BH Autofoam.. which one is better in general, or to combine with GSF in a cold climate like England / Norther USA?
Jon would there be an advantage to snow foam pre wash, then have a mix of shampoo together with snow foam for a foamy contact wash?
mixing unknown chemicals is not always a good idea mate. they are often not compatible.
Hi Jon, what if I have cleaned my car and not driven it for a week or so, can I just use snow foam, rinse and dry to get rid of dust that has built up whilst Sat there over the time? Or does it need a contact wash too? Cheers!
Good question I'm hunting for an answer to this question.
Great informative video as always. Quick question Jon, do you have clothing merchandise?
Thanks for helping me get back into detailing, ive even got my wife involved.. All the best.😊
i dont have any merch mate, Im just too lazy really and I think it would only be a handfull that would like to buy it.
@Forensic Detailing Channel haha! no worries Jon, just thought I'd ask mate. All the best buddy.
This answered a question I asked myself many times while being short on time but with dirty cars, another question is there a reason not to put the car wash/shampoo on with an i.k foamer after the snow foam stage?? The bit you mentioned about the bird poo scratching is the same scenario with my partner's car she took to baked on bird mess with a damp tissue lots of scratches just phycing myself up to have a go with the polisher and compound , more great content from your channel cheers still learning more
You can put shampoo in a ik sprayer or lance prolly better.
What about the car shampoo that are for contact wash but also work with foams.m guns. Wouldn’t that work?
those car shampoos are typically not very powerfull as a prewash. they are more lubricants for the mitt. but you could do this mate lots do.
Hi sir
Whats the best way to wash a car without a foam canon, but i have a pressure gun
get foam cannon mate. you could pump spray it with pre wash, then pressure rinse then contact wash.
@@ForensicDetailing i only use contact wash soap, is foam prewash with ph neutral soap can do much?
Hey buddy, what's the best product to get rid of the tar spots that pick up around the sill? I have loads on my car. And also.. any advice for getting rid of chips on my door where someone has opened their door against it in the carpark? Thank you!
Autosmart Tardis for the tar spots 👍🏻
@@MarcO-mf3rw thanks man. Any any advice for the chips on the door?
@@djham2916 no worries. I haven’t used any paint for a while but Touch Up Factory seem to get good reviews. There is also one that White Details uses but I can’t remember what company it is. I’m sure Jon used one on the channel used one on the channel not too long ago too. Hope that helps 👍🏻
@@MarcO-mf3rw yeah it gives me something to go at, thank you
yer tardis, and touch up single stage gloss paint from ebay mate. put it on, if you dont have polisher just brush on carefully. if you have polisher put it on build a crest and then flatten it and buff it.
Snowfoams and shampoos aren’t expensive so just have both for best of both worlds.
lots can be mate. big variation in cost per wash. I think the highest Ive encountered was about 4£ cost per wash for contact shampoo and lowest about 3p.
Jon. What was the name of 1900/1 3pence winner winner chic dinner. Thanks. Bought SpeedWax. Think I’ll use this for a very nice car to finish. Use cheaper G3 Wax common car. Used KC 08.02 heavy cut tonight. Nice nice product. Nicer than Farecla on the panel.
Car chem 1900 to 1 shampoo m8 get 5 litres on black Friday it will last the rest of your life
@@ForensicDetailing sweet done. Cheers ears !!
How about when it comes to alloy wheels? I was thinking about pre wash with snow foam, rinse, then reapply snow foam on alloys for added cling and lubrication and wash with a wheel shampoo
Can do mate. I tend to prewash them.. then apc and brush
@@ForensicDetailing Okay thanks for the reply, looking forward to joining patron soon
I have been putting normal shampoo on through the cannon more recently. if I ever were to wash a clean car with oil snow foam I always wood. I think it reduces swirls by giving foam a little time to "mix with" the surface dirt. also used Gyeon restart this way too to give the iron remover a bit of time to work. downside is its harder to be sure you got every place.
Desert Dust ???? You mean sand ?? 🤣
AnyHoo - I agree - snow foam for pre wash, car shampoo for contact wash 👍
Please make the difference in Touchless and Touch-Less. Most people don’t know that you still have to wash your car
yer i mean thats kind of what we are saying in this video. prewash is there to knock off a big chunk but contact is needed still
Hi Jon, quick question, what wash mitt have you got on the work top and where did you get it from. Thanks
one of my patreons martin sent it to me he had a handfull of them made from manufacturer. You cant buy it unfortunetly but its kind of what Im after.
@@ForensicDetailing thanks for the speedy reply, I'll have a look online to see what else is similar
Duh. It’s what I’ve said for the longest time, but only on coated and waxed cars
Can you or should you……NO is the simple answer
The whole market is becoming like skin care and adding made up words for its contents,…. Get snow foam on, big sponge, work n rinse off… simples
NO YOU CAN'T.
I give up with snow foam.
It's pointless.
😂okay
👍🏻
