    I've used both for the past couple of years. Touchless requires a much higher ratio of product and gets used twice as fast Autofoam. Touchless works better on winter grime and Autofoam is better on summer grime. For me Autofoam is a lot cheaper and a better all rounder

    I had a week's worth of dirt/salt on my car and yesterday I sprayed surfex hd on lower panels and wheels and covered that with touchless for 10 mins. I then rinsed with a karcher K5 and every bit of dirt came off. I didn't need to contact wash afterwards but did anyway. Bilt hamber is amazing stuff. I've just discovered valetpro snow seal but it didn't arrive in time to use it. Hope it's good. Thanks for your tips Jon, I've learnt so much from your videos.

      having just bought Touchless and Surfex HD for the first time but not tried them yet, can I ask what dilution rate (if any) you use with the SHD and do you spray it onto dry dirty panels or do you jet wash the main dirt off beforehand?

    • @stephenjames6534
      @stephenjames6534 2 года назад

      @@grahamsmith9788 I've always used surfex hd 50/50 for bodywork and wheels but you can go lower, but find this gives best results. My method is jetwash body first to get rid of any looser dirt, then I spray surfex on and leave it for up to 5 mins before rinsing off. The more stubborn dirt I agitate with a soft detailing brush. Hope this helps.

      The only exception is if you have caked on layers of mud, on a offroader or if you’ve been on country roads, you’d want to pressure wash as much of the chunky stuff. If it’s just road film I agree, always spray product on a dry panel

    As a pro detailer of many years who has connections all over the industry i can honestly say you wont find a many pros with just one snow foam.. and you wont find many with the same opinions. These aren't bad foams, particularly Touchless but they aint the best and they are FAR from the best value. So why then is touchless in my arsenal? Because in winter if you simply want the best possible non contact wash then its up there. For contact washing there are better products. Personal favourites KKD Blizzard, Koch GSF and Koch AF, (yes you need both same as B/H) and ProKleen cherry which is with my set up so cost effective. It all depends on your set up is the reality imo. I've never got on with Magifoam personally, but i know others who swear by it! Great work as always John.

      I find contact wash products you can literally use anything. so I mainly go for pure shampoos with very low cost per wash. Ive yet to find anything that beats the 1900:1 car chem shampoo when its like 12 quid for 5 litres.

      Bilt Hamber has instructions on doing it, but the gist is to put a bucket on a scale, zero the scale, fill your foam bottle with water, and keep running into the bucket until the foam bottle is empty. Then convert the weight of the water in the bucket to volume and there you go, you can figure out what 1-4% of the volume of water is and that's how much soap to put in the foam bottle (and top off with water). For my setup, I needed about 50% of the bottle to be soap to hit 4% out of the gun, because my pressure washer moves a lot of volume of water so the bottle needs to be "hot". This also means I can never get more than 8% ratio if the bottle is 100% soap.

    • @peterwilliamson1825
      @peterwilliamson1825 Месяц назад

      @@someusername121 Thanks for taking the time to reply.
      If I understand your explanation correctly. You measure the total water collected to empty the soap bottle. Then you calculate the results to work out how much to dilute the snow foam (with water) when you fill the bottle.
      The bit I'm still unsure about is the soap control knob.
      Surely this also alters the ratio of snow foam to water (PIR ratio).
      Or does it have no affect on the PIR ratio?
      Part of the reason why I'm asking this seemingly stupid question is that I find it's very easy to accidentally turn this knob when I'm using the lance.

    way up in North Scotland I seem to think touch less is awesome in the summer for dissolving bugs etc but in the winter with LOADS of salt etc Autofoam works better, even almost as a touchless wash. Granted I go in heavy with the product but definitely think it works better in winter up here.

    So I add 5 oz of either of these in my IK Foam Pro 12 and a gallon of distilled for pre-wash before it goes through the good touch-free wash near my work and it comes out perfect everytime! I go around the car twice, let dwell and go get in line or sometimes I don't have to wait. I have a battery powered air compressor attached to the unit for constant foaming action all the way around, works great and gets alot of attention by other patrions🤔😉

    I've run both for about two years, back when I was commuting everyday. The film the autofoam leaves I find a pig to get off but i only had a tiny pressure washer so likely that was it. Now I've got a Nilfisk so maybe that will sway me back but only used that once and need to get the bits to join up the foam cannon again (only a cheapo ebay one as well). However i don' t drive much anymore yet I still find Touchless easier to use and gives better results. I now throw a citrus cleaner (MileDeep) underneath it just for the extra oomph and its so easy. Once autofoam runs out I won't be buying again and that 2 quid extra for touchless is worth it to me all day long. I stand by this result you demo'd on both grimy and lesser-grimey cars and also to your previous tests which showed the same. (which is why i tried touchless in the first place!)

    Just did a 600 mile round trip over the weekend. Thought I'd do my own test as I had both products.
    Half the car 5% touchless other half 4% Autofoam.
    Both sides were very clean afterwards and I wouldn't complain about either one.
    I did some swabs and found the Autofoam side was cleaner, I personally think it's down to what sort of road grime builds up.
    My car is generally washed weekly so never really dirty, for that reason I'll stick to Autofoam for the price and need less product in the lance.

    I do car detailing on weekend.. i tested this product on my personal driveway.. it removes the dirt well, but i still had to use a different soap for a second pass to really remove the dirts.. one thing i find annoying with this product is that my driveway turned all brown after the wash. That brown marks on the asphalt won't go away… . i had to use over $15 worth of degreaser to remove the brown on the driveway. After washing a car, the last thing i want to do is to wash the driveway. Im not sure im happy with the product since i mainly wash on private asphalt

    have both the autofoam & the touchless due to both your vids & also they are well praised by 2 of the local shops who stock it ( both of whom have trouble keeping the stuff intstock at times it sells so well lol )
    My only gripe with bilt hamber is the amount you have to use to get the desired results - 300-400ml or thereabouts i think it works out to which means you chug through the 5L's in short order.
    i have been through many variations of foams from many, MANY companies & until recently i still reverted back to bilt hamber if the car was dirty enough that it required it but i may have found a new weapon of choice for both heavy winter & regular washes - 30-50ml of Koch Chemie Active Foam & topped off to 1L with water for the regular washes depending on dirt level ( the handier version of the GSF + Green Star combo - saves you having to find both bottles & mix ur own brew lol ) & for the heavier needs, 100ml of Koch Chemie Super Foam to 900ml of water in the lance , i was ashamed of the colour of the foam dropping off the car on tuesday this week with this stuff lol - OK it still needed a contact wash to get the final bits just like your bilt hamber results show ( but my god was my car filthy compaed to your car here lol ) but it was clean enough after 1 4minute dwell and rinse that i would have happily rinsed & driven off if needed ( it shifted 95% of the dirt at least & that included some that the pressure washer failed to shift on one side of the car after an impromptue 50/50 pre-rinse vs no pre-rinse test seen as i could easily try it out that day lol ) - instead of being left at that it got a soapy wash with a foam cannon full of Angelwax Dark Star Atomic Shampoo & follwed up with a couple of coats of spray & rinse sealants ( valet pro snow seal & koch chemie protector wax to cover any missed spots ) so should be good enough to keep the protection topped up till next wash
    OK the koch chemie superfoam may be pricey compared with the bilt hamber ( Around the £85-£90 mark for a 10L tub but you use much less per wash compared with touchless etc ( assuming i am using bilt hamber stuff correctly obviously ) that the price per wash is a fair bit cheaper option overall for the koch super foam, ( my dodgy maths says around £46 for 10L of touchless vs nearly double that for 10L of the koch superfoam ( lets go above high end pricing on it to make it easier mental calcs ) but if i am using 300-400ml per wash of touchless & 100ml per wash of koch then the touchless will be gone & in need of more when i still have well over 50% of the koch superfoam left so to my mind it makes it the cheaper option overall - OK long payoff time but still lol
    it would be interesting to see how the Superfoam ( and the Active Foam too ) compared against the bilt hamber duo in one of your shootouts one day just to see how the koch meateier offerings fair against your onslaught of tests :D

      Use BH through a pump up sprayer. Get the same results. Use less.
      However I use a superior method to working PIR out which means I always get to put in straight 100% BH product in but dial back my canon to 4% PIR which uses less product and gives me foam for when the weather turns hot. It’s brilliant and so economical.

      Touchless certainly rinses off much easier. One quick pass with a pressure washer at a fair distance and it's rinsed. However it doesn't have the lovely smell of auto foam but it certainly doesn't smell unpleasant like auto wheels.

    I've used auto foam for a number of years now. I use it on our BMW, my works van and also an ATV I use for work.
    I have found nothing on the market which beat it. The ATV in particular can be absolutely hanging with mud, peat and pine needles. A quick spray with BH and a blast with my power washer and it comes up like new. The mud just slides off it.
    Fantastic stuff. I'm due to order more so may try the Touchless this time.

    With BH touchless and GT v2 snowfoam both being sugar based what do you think is the best value. I think GT can be used at a lower concentration but cost £35 where as BH probably uses more per wash but is only £23 now. Be interesting to know what’s better value long term and what works the best

    I used to use Autoglym Snow Foam but wasn't overly impressed. In the cold weather it was still on my drive 24 hours later. Lots of people on your Forensic Detailing Channel recommended BH Touchless. Been using it for over a year and love it.

    • @martinmorton6276
      @martinmorton6276 2 года назад

      same here, autoglym was a lovely foam to take pics of while its dwelling but little to no cleaning actions performed :( ( & erm, yeah, it hangs around for ages on the floor afterwards lol - my record for it lingering in the gutter after a wash is 3 and a bit days before it had gone fully )
      will have to use up my stockpile of it at some point by using the pre-spray some citrus / TFR etc first before adding the foam ontop method or adding some koch chemie green star to the autoglym foam in the lance to see if it spices that up like it does the koch chemie gentle snow foam :D ( sadly though its not just autoglym, i have many other snowfoams too that are nice to look at while they dwell but they have no other positives with regards the cleaning power when compared to proper dirt shifting foams :( )

    I am nearly running out of auto-foam, so like many here I am looking forward to trying touch-less. I would like to also try touch-on together with it, but for some reason these satchets were never made available in my area.
    I do a pre-soak using Surfex HD, then cover it up with auto-foam. I am ashamed to say I never tried to work out the correct PIR, I just mix 1:9 into my foam cannon bottle and it works for me.
    I also use auto-wash, atom-mac and auto-wheel.
    You can recognize John's influence on me haha.
    I do try and use products from different brands, but BH is my default choice.

    • @christopher4636
      @christopher4636 2 года назад

      Unless your foam lance uses a lot of concentrate per litre of water it puts out, that sounds like a very weak mix, probably in the region of 1% PIR. I imagine the Surfex HD is what's helping you shift the heavier dirt however that product will degrade any wax/protection a lot quicker. My PA foam lance dilutes whatever is in the bottle at 1:9. So I mix my foam bottle at about 1:3 (150ml in a 600ml bottle) which gives about 2.5% PIR. If the car is really dirty with salt, I'll use over 4% PIR. I'll only go as low as 1.6% PIR for very light summer washes.
      John/Jon has also influenced me heavily, my garage is mainly full of BH stuff now. I recommend their quick detailer both as a drying aid and as detailer.

    • @RedXcz
      @RedXcz 2 года назад

      @@christopher4636 Thanks for replying Chris. I see i should really do the PIR test with my cannon - it is not a complicated procedure after all.
      I never suspected my auto-foam solution was too weak, it was still pretty soapy and covered the surfaces well.
      Surfex HD I use dilluted 1:19, I hope that is not too agressive against the LSPs - even if, coming again from Jon's school of though, I guess I prefer removing dirt vs. protecting the protection :)
      Noted with the QD - still on my to-buy list of BH products. I lately use detailing sprays almost exclusively as drying aid after a proper wash, I am still concerned too much using these as a band-aid between regular washes.

    • @christopher4636
      @christopher4636 2 года назад

      @@RedXcz No problem. Yes well worth testing your foam lance. Well if you're getting good results then why change I guess. I use Surfex HD at 1:9 but only when I'm cleaning sills or areas I'm about to clay and polish.
      Yes I'm the same, the only time I'll use them is on a car clean of dirt, so just as a drying aid or water spot remover. I can't bring myself to spray QD on and drag dirt over a panel even with a microfibre cloth. I do however use Atom-mac on my sills when they're covered in road salt and don't have time to wash it off.

    Must admit I don’t find these snowfoams are the revelation some comments would have you believe. We live rurally so even in summer my wife’s black Abarth gets a golden muck layer around the lower sections.
    Touchless gets some of it off but not a whole load more than just blasting it with the jet wash. It’s certainly not gone without a contact wash, put it that way. 🤔

      I live rural and can recommend touchless in conjuction with touch on (4 week applications) touchless still requires contact wash but 85% of dirt gone. If local farmers are using feeds with molasses in then it creates sticky residue that can be very difficult to remove.
