@@droversanity3682 Ark Royal torpedo bombers disabled her rudder, allowing the rest of the Royal Navy fleet that was pursuing her to catch up and just pummel her to slag. (Grossly over-simplified)
Last message from Bismarck to Überkommando Der Marine is "Rudder Broken, unable to steer, british unavoiable, shall make a last stand für Deutscheland!"
Bismarck faced almost the entire Royal Navy by herself, all fighting to avenge Hood. Even when she was crippled by Ark Royal's Fairey Swordfish, savaged by large caliber shells from King George V and Rodney, and betrayed by the Sirens in the game, she fought on until her guns could no longer fire. She finally sunk after hours of intense battle, regretting that she couldn't meet her sister Tirpitz...
And was running in circles for a good few hours. The metal on the Bismarck got so heated from HE rounds, torpedoes and other munitions literally made the water around it steam.
@@Floofrer I'm talking about the entire chase which started when planes from Ark Royal and Victorious first started attacking Bismarck, and ended when Dorsetshire finished off the heavily damaged German battleship after she failed to reach the safety of Vichy France. The whole ordeal took way longer than 15 minutes.
Bismarck maybe would have made it to Brest (Its destination so that it can dock and repair which is located in France) if it were not for a worried father asking for if the Bismarck's crew was okay. However, the British managed to decode the "We're heading to Brest", and narrowed down the places she could be in. They got found, she got her rudder knocked out and was surrounded by the Royal Navy. At that point, you know the story.
Pride and Glory... Wounded and Tired... Scuttled or Sunk... No one can tell.. None can prove it well... What matters mostly... Is this beast fought for the last shell...
The search team that found her confirmed she was scuttled actually. All water tight doors opened, no implosion damage from trapped air and no penetrations below the waterline.
@@MajinOthinus even the secondary armor still holds , and she still stands staright , not in any other position , just like how the ship is supoosed to be floating , she is inside water , for me she will never die
I think they also found almost none penetrating hits on the lower part of the ship which means besides the holed superstructure the ship wasnt damaged that much at all
Her tale is one of defiance, though she was lost she was never defeated I think if given the chance she would do battle with the Royal Navy all over again
The sailors aboard the Bismarck never expected us to turn their beloved ship into a literal girl. But atleast we as Shikikans will make her happy. And I got Bismarck as of recently, despite her cold nature, I can understand why due to what she has been through.
Reason is that the reality is that both sides, the germans and british were human and we all played our part to win and at the cost of sacrifice. Yet in the anime of her counterpart we barely know her persona for I guess season 2 will tell us or even a movie perhaps. She might not be the villain that we're expecting yet she comes across as one but then again it makes me wonder if she's an anti-hero than a villain and despite all she represents I can't help but see that she's got some good in her that's lurking deep inside that she locks away from others. From what I do know is that she totally hates HMS Hood and inviting others so my guess is that she's got an intense hatred and bad blood rivalry with Hood yet Bismarck likes classic music, and her Iron Blood Allies almost to that of a family.
@@Narakagi2 I suspect that Bismarck could be an anti hero than a villain yet deep down she holds some form of humanity and good that shows what many of us like about her. I dare go as to say if only we brits and germans had not fought and aligned as one I could only picture Bismarck seeing that making her happy to see, as you said before, only wanting what's best for her nation and her sister. I think all of us think the same for our own friends and families during this difficult time.
It's thanks to Azur Lane that made me do a 180 to see that Bismarck was not as evil as I use to think she was when I first learnt about her back in 2001 during my final childhood years when I learnt about her fight with HMS Hood. Now many years later in 2021 and with Azur Lane and anime, times have changed and now I see her in a different way.
Even at the bottom of the sea, the real Bismarck's wreck still sit up right, so I imagine Bismarck (AL) standing still on the sea bed holding the Ironblood flag showing that she still have her honor and pride as the flagship of the navy, proving that she deserve bearing the name of the Iron Chancellor, Otto von Bismarck.
@@Kanefan701 By no means was he a bad or evil person, tho bad and evil are relative terms. Without him, Germany as we know it wouldn't exist. But for Germany to exist 3 wars of unification were fought and only after those 3 wars Germany as a nation came into existance as the Kaiserriech. Otto was always there for the people of germany and gave the germans the one thing that they wanted for hundreds of years. If it intrests you, there is a picture painted of the decleration of the Kaiserrich and Bismarck is painted wearing a white uniform even tho that day he was wearing the same uniform as all the others in that picture. The person who painted it wanted Bismarck to stick out from the rest because he was to the german people a bigger hero than any Kaiser or Dictator ever could be.
@@sniperScythe101 so Bismarck's namesake was not as what many of us thought... so he was a good guy and didn't follow in the paths that Kaisers or Dictators went.
@@Kanefan701 If it interests you as well, the namesake of Iron Blood as a whole comes from Otto Bismarck too. In one of his speeches he said that ''The great questions of the day will not be settled with words, but with Iron and Blood''. He was talking about the wars of unification when he said that, even tho Bismarck wasn't directly in charge he masterfully manipulated the situation so that all germans no matter the state had a common goal and because of these 3 wars against Denmarck, Austria and France the germans fought together germany became a nation in 1871. Like I already said, the Germans wanted this for hunderds of years, to have a nation of their own, not just 35 broken pieces all with their own laws and traditions. After the wars Otto also made sure to save his work by making peace with most of germanys neigbours. In a way you could say that Otto is the Father of the Fatherland. He was also the one to come up the insurance systems, making lives a lot easier for workers. I'd also like to add that when Prussia won the war against austria Bismarck was strickly against taking parts of their land because it would just lead to revenge. The Kaiser of prussia stuck to his traditions and took a piece of land from the austrians much to Bismarcks disliking. And of course one of the first things Kaiser Wilhelm II did as new Kaiser was send Bismarck into retirement. Even in Great Britain that was seen as a bit of a dumb thing to do. And we all know what Kasier Wilhelm is also responsable for ....
@@sniperScythe101 I wouldn't say hundreds of years. A few decades would be more fitting. Only Napoleon created a situation where the people in the German lands started feeling like they are one nation and wanted to become one (for example the March revolution of 1848, which resulted in the first elected German parliament). That was btw the same context the Lied der Deutschen (song of the Germans) got written, which is why stuff like Deutschland, Deutschland über alles don't mean "We are the best in the world" like some people 100 years later felt, but "A unified Germany is the thing we want the most". And the areas mentioned while not accurate today are pretty fitting for the German speaking areas who should unite in their eyes

While on the one hand sure, on the other you gotta realize that the story was two nazi war ships on their way to attack deep within ally territory. The surrender should have been accepted sure, but the loss was well earned and hardly what I’d call “heroic” Edit: before we get to the “separate the soldiers from the generals” argument, no. The vast majority of not just soldiers but Citizenry were not only well aware of what was happening, but were supportive of it. The feign of ignorance was usually just that, a way to push blame onto others and act like they had not taken any part to play. It’s tragic, sure, how the real life soldiers became pawns so easily manipulated by loose propaganda, but at the end of the day they were choosing the rout of the scape goat and only after they lost (the war, not the ship battle) chose to back down from their beliefs
@@skeetskeet7041 if the balls of steel to fight against more than 50 warships and 100 fighters + bombers with a damaged battleship from a previous battle isn't called "Heroic", then there might as well be no heroes in human history. It's not about factions and beliefs. It's about standing firmly against a powerful opponent without any fear. At the time of WW2, even the German Admiral Hipper commander complimented and suggested the crew of an ally ship for a medal that sailed full speed towards Hipper to at least damage it with their damaged and uncontrollable engine. Sure no matter what era, war never changes but even in war times, there are still respect between both sides and heroes.
At the bottom of the ocean, the depths of the abyss They are bound by iron and blood The flagship of the navy, the terror of the seas His guns have gone silent at last

Even for her enemy she was a model, an exemple to follow and the only way to honor her is to do the same thing in the same situation, in the end her indomitable willpower won because even dead she changed the world
The British guns were aimed, And the shells were coming fast. The first shell hit the Bismarck, They knew she couldn't last. That mighty German battleship is just a memory. "Sink the Bismarck!" was the battlecry that shook the seven seas.
A year late but the song is quite ironic considering recent studies have shown that the shells that penetrated the Bismarck weren't anywhere near enough to sink her. And that it's believed now that the crew forcefully sabotaged pumps to prevent British capture

We must always remember that no matter the odds the Germans all ways refused to surrender on the field of battle. The AL devs did an amazing job of illustrating this belief through the story of the Bismarck.
When the Russians arrived at the end of WW2 during the final battle many german troops were ordered to keep fighting until they came across US and British soldiers so they could surrender. Russians took no prisoners while the men would survive under British and American POW camps.

I'm speechless I can't fathom how they managed to put one of the most fierce battles one that shook all seven sees into a beautiful masterpiece of a song, she may have sunk but she will forever float in our hearts
It's funny, I actually didn't know anything about Bismarck in AL until I played Crosswave. I'd listened to this song and read the description, so I had a completely different picture of Bismarck in my head compared to the actual character. Considering her lack of a lot of the details of other Ironblood ships, and knowing that Ironblood had started using Siren technology, I envisioned her as having rejected the upgrades gained by her comrades, having no need of them because she was just _strong_ without them, seeing them as a corrupting force within Ironblood. Of course, reality is completely different from imagination in this case...still, I think this would have been a cool character concept.
@Alamandorious You're not that far off the mark, Bismarck is too proud to personally employ Siren tech upgrades, the only member of Iron Blood (aside from possibly Tirpitz) who isn't equipped with said upgrades. Yet she permits her fleet to do so because she believes they cannot defeat the Sirens with their own strength alone, the very reason she turned against Azur Lane in the first place.
At the bottom she rests, silent guns aimed to the sky for an enemy that will not come, as she sit down there in the dark abyss. she finds nothing but peace, and Peace she deserves, she gave a Valiant fight, but in the end no one was there to see her go under. she remained above the water, until the charges set to scuttle her exploded, as she sank to the bottom alone. may you rest in peace, along with your crew, mighty Lord Bismarck. You fought admirably, just as did the crew of the Hood, and every other battleship that fell during the Second World War, may we never forget their sacrifice

Coming back to this Soundtrack After the end of the skybound oratorio event. The event reminded me that Bismarck is the only somewhat canonically dead faction Leader.
A curious fact that is a bit sad: Bismarck is the best I currently have in AL (I started playing a few months ago), and because of that I used her to do the last level of Scherzo of iron and blood. So, it was Bismarck sinking the Bismarck, and she got MVP.
She fought against a huge british fleet, her armour was visibly glowing from certain spots because of the shelling, she was only sunk by her crew after they decided it's best to sink the ship so that brits don't get it for themselves, and after she sunk she was-and still is sitting on the seabed upright, refusing to bow to anyone or anything. Truly worthy of carrying the name of the Iron Chancellor.
That's what the Germans believed at least. Really, the British didn't have intentions to capture or anything. As seen how they desperately tried to sink her. King George V, Rodney, Doretshire, and Norfolk alone fired 2800 shells with 400 hits. Doesn't mention damage from Hood, Ark Royal, and torpedoes. The scuttling attempt only accelerated her sinking and made the process easier.
Fun fact: An expedition of James Cameron proved that Bismarck wasn't sunk by enemy fire or torpedos but scuttled by her own crew to prevent her technology being captured by the allies. Although her deck was pretty much destroyed the hull and armor were still intact. Edit: They had to prevent the siren technology from being stolen...🤣😅
This was already first hinted at during the Robert Ballard expedition in 1999, the expedition documented the position of the Bismarck wreck as well as the lack of implosion damage, indicating that the ships hull was already flooded before the wreck hit critical depth. In 2001 the David Mearns expedition claimed that the B was suck by torpedo attacks, but this was refuted the following year with James Camerons expedition, when they found no traces of critical penetrations of the hull and the only evidence for a ship torpedo hit was non-critical. Also, David Mears did shoddy work on the wreck, despite having access to diving robots, they didnt analyse the insides of the hull.
Yep, that's true. Despite taking sustained fire from the most powerful vessels of the Royal Navy, the Bismarck was ultimately felled by her own crew to keep her out of enemy hands as you said. Tragic and heroic.
this ost brought me to azur lane and when I found out I cant get her anymore let alone play the tutorial again or the event fights I came back and listened to this alone in my room... sad life
Well, the event rerun was almost a year ago and the devs usually add over two year old events that contain major story bits into the archive section for replayability, also the ships from those events are also added into the construcktion pool. You will get Bismarck eventually, Im sure of that. ^^
Spoilers below the cut! We find out in Operation: Siren that both Bismarck and Tirpitz SURVIVED Scherzo of Iron and Blood and Winter's Crown, respectively. Bismarck still leads Iron Blood, but her second in command isn't Tirpitz (though she's up there). It's not even Graf Zeppelin. It's actually Friedrich der Große. And God help us if Bismarck bites the dust for good, because Hell has no fury like a Mother scorned.

However, the British managed to decode the "We're heading to Brest", and narrowed down the places she could be in. They got found, she got her rudder knocked out and was surrounded by the Royal Navy. At that point, you know the story.

@@Narakagi2 indeed.
Yet I don't know what her own namesake would be thinking.... also was Otto von Bismarck really a bad evil person?

Edit: before we get to the “separate the soldiers from the generals” argument, no. The vast majority of not just soldiers but Citizenry were not only well aware of what was happening, but were supportive of it. The feign of ignorance was usually just that, a way to push blame onto others and act like they had not taken any part to play. At the time of WW2, even the German Admiral Hipper commander complimented and suggested the crew of an ally ship for a medal that sailed full speed towards Hipper to at least damage it with their damaged and uncontrollable engine.
:)
well Sakura Empire and Ironblood where the 2 factions that went for the siren techs, it just Ironblood went all out with it..
@Alamandorious
You're not that far off the mark, Bismarck is too proud to personally employ Siren tech upgrades, the only member of Iron Blood (aside from possibly Tirpitz) who isn't equipped with said upgrades.

@@BrokenAngelWings you forget the 406mm shells perforate his hull and turrers and turned its crew into a red jello gory mess.
@@subarunatsuki4145 Not rlly. The hull armor is still intact meaning the hull didn't got penetrated. You forgett the Turtleback that she had.
@@BrokenAngelWings It didn't go trough her turtleback. But able against her belt... Because her belt wasn't as thick as Americans..
But scuttleing charge coupled with Torpedoes from Dorchester bringing her down quickly.
Even to this time this still makes me cry
Man, I do listening this song everyday, what a cool and epic song
Praise our biscuit for she have died for our sins
There's this huge drama built up by the story of Bismarck and Hood's fateful encounter.
But now they're literally roommates and get along fine.
or they finally made up by the year 2001 when hood was found and bismarck being found again since 1989 and now they've put it all behind them despite what unfolding in May 1941
Raising the flag with both of her hand
Looking straight to the explosion of her enemy and that soon will be her's too
Straight face filled with sadness, yet the Pride and Elegance stay still on it
With deep yet beautiful voice, Pridely said ...
"Hail Ironblood"
I hope we get to see her story in the anime.
This is by far one of the best ost/song for an event final boss.
Of course Hige driver is still the best.
When your team is coming to back you up but you know they won't make it in time so you make your stand:
this... this is amazing..... i saluted while crying when listening to this mad respects for the golden biscuit
Her battle was essentially just Johnson from Halo 3 saying Send Me Out.. With A Bang.
I cried when she died I cried harder then watching the end of Akame Ga Kill I downed a whole box of tissues crying
me encanta bismarck, entre a jugar hace poquito al juego, y encontrarme con esta sorpresa fue increíble, pero su tema, esta a otro nivel, transmite un aura de deber y honor, pero a la vez de tristeza, como si supiera el final que le depara.
Coming back to this Soundtrack After the end of the skybound oratorio event. The event reminded me that Bismarck is the only somewhat canonically dead faction Leader.
Man , i'm literally crying right now!
Hearing this on the day of her final stand has brought me to tears.
*Holds up drink*
In honor of her.
To Bismarck.
when real men cry
A curious fact that is a bit sad: Bismarck is the best I currently have in AL (I started playing a few months ago), and because of that I used her to do the last level of Scherzo of iron and blood. So, it was Bismarck sinking the Bismarck, and she got MVP.
Дух этого корабля воистину силен и он нашел новую жизнь в замечательной игре, но истории свойственно повторятся....
The queen of the ocean, embarked and proved that loyalty is truly honor
HOLY SHIT THIS IS GIVING ME SO MUCH GOOSEBUMPS
No, I'm not crying. It's just eye water
When this event archived, i will replay this song for D3 boss
How could shikikan tell the truth about Bismarck to U-556
There was no need to tell her.
In-game U-556 draged her corpse back to the port after searching for weeks after Bismarck was called "lost".

Tears flew down my face....
It reminded me that the era of super battleships is over and rested at the bottom of the sea....
