Legend! Been searching for this for a while! I support Newcastle, but followed Pompey every night on radio when I was a kid for this season. Even despite Merson being a total dunce as a pundit I’ve always loved him because what he did for Pompey this season. My step dad was a huge Spurs fan and used to wake me up for school each morning, and remember him going from a stage of Merson’s finished, to accepting he’d been quality. Would fill in Daily Star sports crossword whilst eating my toast, and be telling him all about game I’d gone to bed listening too night before - Steve Stone’s performance on the left, tough visit to Millmoor etc. I think his mood changed around when Sherwood arrived! He got fully on board then! Have won a lot of drinks betting again Pompey fans on Isle of Wight, naming players from the promotion side... Letting out my trumps, Lassina Diabate, and Tavlaridis. I’ve slipped in Markus Heikennen (played for Luton, played in game Xabi Alonso scored inside own half at Kenilworth Roar) once before, but never remember him playing. Probably one of Harry’s 70+ players registered that season.
The players we started off with,then signed (like Stone,Sherwood and Yukubu and a returning player like Burton). I remember that awful home game v Leicester City,how was that allowed in the torrential rain? Claridge must have hated that humiliation at the New Den. As for Todorov and Taylor...pure class that season and of course Taylor did even better in the Prem. 20+ years ago but seems so recent. Thank God and John Mousinho and the Eisners that we are back in the Championship!

Every promotion is special, but I loved this Pompey team, we played some lovely football that season, plenty of goals and excitement 👍🏻🙂

Loved this season. Football from another planet. Best I have seen in years. Hopefully Pompey will get back up into the Premiership again.
