    THIS is the kind of stuff that should be tought in history as a more "comedic bit" when talking about WW1. It's absolutely hilarious just how bad and weird things went.

    Main reason for circum-African route for 2nd Squadron, been supposed extreme draft for 4 battleships of Borodino-class. To successfully move thorough a Suez Channel, they needed be partially unloaded - which could delay Squadron more then for 24 hours in neitral waters, with following internment till the end of war. That been clearly said in a testaments for post-war tribunal.

    • @joaoonda
      @joaoonda  3 года назад +1

      Interesting! It makes a lot of sense, the depth of the channel was increased over the years so it was probably the main reason to go around Africa. Most books says that the reason was the Dogger Bank incident (since the Channel was controlled by the British and the French) but I don´t agree with that, since the Third Squadron used that route months later without any problems. Your comment is a lot more valid and I thank you for it! :D

      @@joaoonda Late reply but from what I heard is after the incident at Dogger Bank, Britain didn’t allow the Second Squadron to pass through the Suez Canal which was under their control. (The Third Squadron later did as by that point the Britain had lowered their “defense level” to Russia as Dogger Bank almost led to Brtiain joining the war.)
