I dunno why, but rhythm changes are my favorite changes to listen to people play over. They're just so joyful. And the way the B section sends you into outer space for a second. It's all too good.
The outer space comment describes the B section so well. The combination of A and B sections on rhythm changes is just out of this world. What a composition by the Gershwins
I've probably listened to this version of Rhythm-a-ning 100 times, and it never gets old. They are monsters - all of them. Amazing communication between all the parts makes them a whole. Spectacular solos, rhythm and tempo changes, playing hot against cool, nuanced transitions. Masters, all.
Amazing ... the tune is amazing, of course, and this takes it to yet another level .... 20th jazz classics in the new millenium, with next generation vision, skill, and energy. These are the real 'young lions' so to speak, 40 yrs after the fact ....
Loved it. the Vibes player lays in on a lot of eighth notes, the pianist leaves lots of space then smokes some thematic lyrical stuff and develops it wonderfully. Bass\ solo sent me into dissociative states with dynamics changes and grungey harmonies. Drummer is just killing, so loose and responsive! Guy in audience who says woo killed my buzz a few times. 8.5 stars on jazz yelp.
@@charlesperforms Apparently y'all have never been in a NYC club, or at least you haven't absorbed the joyous spirit of swinging music. Granted, the experience of hearing that dude wooing over a video on RUclips is much more radically obscene than it would be in person, maybe the recording captured his vocalizations more prominently than is natural. Either way, it's a fucking beautifully primal sound, enjoy the human nature where you can I guess.
I just love this sooo much! I understand that Monk used to do a little circular dance during performances when his bandmates were soloing. I wonder if there are any videos of that? Sometimes I can picture him dancing in my head, but I would love to see him for real!
Does anyone know or is able to tell the size of that ride? I'm trying to figure it out with stick size ou hand size but its over video so I can't really tell
God damn, Yasushi Nakamura is fucking killing it. Might be my new favorite bassist.
Yeah holy man
fking killing it
Yes sir!!

Rithm changed while Reading this. Double on the out of space effect!

@@johnwhite2576 amazing player and one of the nicest dudes you could hope to meet
Joel Ross is insanely gifted! That fits with Emmett perfectly. 😱
Joel's solo gave me goosebumps. What an adventure!
This unique quartet should tour and keep going. Joel and Emmet work perfectly together, and this was much more than just a jam session.
It's nice to hear a musical drum solo that is based on the composition the band is playing.

Bravo to every member of the group. Simply wonderful!

i strive to get to this amount of communication with other people. the way everything they do influences one another is absolutely amazing.

You said it all, though I didn't mind the woo. He's only human, unlike these players.
I am also anti woo

Like Connie Kay with The Modern Jazz Quartet, understated and powerful.
very ZEN it just flows....totally a groove...xoxoxoo dj:spy-girl Dallas, Texas
I love how everyone plays with broken time behind the lead parts and Emmet, did you quote “the way you look tonight” during your solo?
Hells yeah
My God! This is great!
Incredible !!
A Monk original
Great 😊👌👌👌😊👌
exceptional work gentlemen!
Nice 👍
Just subscribed 👍
Since bobby hutcherson, dave pike, and walt dickerson are gone joel ross may take over the mantle. Smokin'!!!!
🔥🔥🔥
yeeeeees, I love Snoop D.
rythm a ning here and then the evidence with gilad heckselman are both great
Grandios!!
It's rare when I hear xylophone being played like this. I was raised on Lionel Hampton the "Gold Standard". Joel Ross is outstanding!!!
Ma mamia !
uhhh 🤯🤯🤭🤭😯😲😮
I'm so confused
Does anyone know or is able to tell the size of that ride? I'm trying to figure it out with stick size ou hand size but its over video so I can't really tell
Does Emmet hold his breath when he plays? He seems to go a bit red during complicated bits. If so, why?
Gets tense
Jazz is very contagious. Unless the bloke on bass covers his nose, too, with his mask he sure as hell is gonna catch it !
I wish he would either wear a mask or not wear it. It is so distracting.
Sounds like music with Tony in it.
I can nothing except hitting 👍 and looking at the sweaty guy behind.
Sucha drummer question but. What's his ride?!
It's an Agop Signature, but I'm out here doing the math to figure out the size
Beautiful. I love the sound of the....glockenspiel??
vibraphone
Hutcherson-esque.
Вибрафонист Джоэл Росс отбарабанил своё и - упал (прикольный чувак)!..
what was that? I... what is going on??
My god, How come they didnt pass out after the piano solo… monk would have never made it with this guys 😅
brad mehldau anthropology vibes (no pun intended) at certain points
