I love how different Seamus and Troy sound and play. Sometimes I find it boring to hear multiple players on the same instrument back to back, but not here.
y'know i'm sitting there listening to 0:24 for the sixth or so time like "huh i wonder who plays that palm key thing i really dig it," go look at their fingers and realize Troy starts it and Seamus picks it up. most insane reaction time i've ever seen, just absolutely gorgeous
Woah, Jonathan’s sense of time is INSANE. I myself, and other drumming peers would have started rushing after the first couple choruses of Seamus’s solo 100%
I came to dig jazz in my teens when this was the new music. I am so privileged to hear it still going on 60 years later, respecting and honouring the tradition without being shackled by it.
Emmet's efforts are not only those of a true musician. They show how Emmet is involved with teaching and spreading the world of jazz (the jazz world?) around. Leader, pianist and producer, Emmet is great in all those aspects. In addition to that, Emmet is always bringing something fresh to his place. I didn't know much about Troy until I watched this video. And I am impressed how he made the move from a kind of Turneresque atmosphere into something more of his own. Thank you Emmet!
Troy Roberts is always an exciting listen for me - I loved seeing him with Joey DeFrancesco live many times - and Jonathan Hall keeps this in high gear all the way - great stuff!
The main thing for me is the fun you all are having making music. As a player myself, that is my favorite attitude. Thank you all. And Emmet, this is beautiful, the effort you put in to organise kind of a modern mini Jazz at the Philharmonic. I am aware that you have a staff to help with production, and I say thank you to them also.
Yes, bob blue, totally agre with you! As a player also, the best times for me are those when everyone in the band is taking a real pleasure in making music. Many years ago I used to go to a place called TWINS, in the DC area. Man... how great it was to see the public sharing the music with the musicians! This communal aspect of jazz is so fantastic!
Good day, Emmet. Man, where in the hell to find these great players. Here I'm thinking you are the Man, then you these kind of guys show up on your share. OH, oh, I am going to answer my own question.... They find you. I'm in Panama. When you coming through? Stay blessed.
Really cool interplay. everyone is awesome. I want to hear like this!! This is what I talkin about. This is the hot modern jazz often in 2021. The attitude of Seamus I knew wasn't like that. I've been a fan since he won the Monk Competition, and it's really the amazing ability of Emmet and others that brings his energy up to like that level. Look. Going back to the feeling of jamming at jazz club when they were students, it's really full of energy. Don't forget the mindset you started with. Bravo~ man. Bravo.
Oh Dear 😬, I watch most of these and although this was a triumphant group effort and synergy and all that….Russell Hall Bro!!! Yooooooo!!! I knew dude was BAADDDD But YOOOO!!! Garrison Chops???? Ron Carter beat awareness and cognizance!?!?!?! Say Word Son??? I mean, dude is light skinned like me but Russell’s as Black as Howlin’ Wolf!! I don’t even play jazz like that but I can hear it!! ✊🏽💯💯💯💯💯💯
Seamus's solo is totally worth the next 2 months of pain of me transcribing it.
just play something similar and you will be fine . .
@@sergej100qca4 Is it possible to access that transcription, please? Maybe through a donation? Thank you!
@ sorry, I didn't write it down, but I was going to so as soon as I do it, I'll inform you here.
@@sergej100qca4 Thanks for replying! Please, let me know! Thanks
Troy's solo too tho...
Is Emmet wearing Seamus's pants, or is Seamus wearing Emmet's jacket?
Both!
Yes!
I love that Ride cymbal sound
Looks to me like a 20(?) inch Istanbul Agop Special Edition Jazz Ride on the left side, and a 19 or 20 inch Istanbul Agop Signature Ride.
drier than a desert
Word. Crystal clear attack. Love it
I love how different Seamus and Troy sound and play. Sometimes I find it boring to hear multiple players on the same instrument back to back, but not here.
Exactly
I love how much space Emmett leaves for the soloists.
True team player! He supports the soloist with no need to show off his amazing talent!
Seamus Blake's solo is saying : "transcribe me", do you hear it ? SAY YOU CAN HEAR IT !
😂 totally! 10 seconds in and my brain said: "transcribe it, NOW!!!" haha
@@f.devigili lol just started today who is faster 😂
@@michaelmarginter2988 Well...did you finish it? :)

I never caught that! Thanks for pointing it out, super cool moment!
That intro was wild. Love it when musicians can listen and interact and converse real-time.
Woah, Jonathan’s sense of time is INSANE. I myself, and other drumming peers would have started rushing after the first couple choruses of Seamus’s solo 100%
Hundred percent
Bro Troy Roberts straight KILLIN it
10:27 That 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town' vibe haha! Everyone's absolutely smashing it!!
Troy Roberts insane!!!!!!

Achei o canal dele por acaso e hoje penso o mesmo. Tô revendo coisa que não via pra lá de década, numa nova roupagem. Com certeza, educativo.
Wonderfully expressed! Emmet and EC3 are doing so much for jazz in so many ways!!
Troy Roberts is always an exciting listen for me - I loved seeing him with Joey DeFrancesco live many times - and Jonathan Hall keeps this in high gear all the way - great stuff!
Thank you!
Yes ! I was just wondering the same thing. Now I know. I saw Tony with Joey D at WPU in NJ back in 2018. It was insane.
The intro is Jazz at its finest!

All these great players! I just wish we could see Dayna Stephens up here on tenor ;)
At Smalls tonight and Jazz Gallery 10/2/21
What an amazing tenor duo, I enjoyed the way the blended so nicely
Some real Hank Mobley vibes,
Great stuff.
These guys are so heavy I've been sucked into the rift in space-time they created, never to return.
The quality of every kind of music I've been listening to during covid is just amazing. Thank God for youtube
Troy Roberts killed it!!

The Sorcerer or this session is the bassist Russell Hall
Jazz de altíssimo nível. Muito bom. Há pouco assisti a uma performance de Emmet Cohen com Caity Gyorgy, coisa fina também.
Wow! I am amazed at Seamus's phrasing and Emmet's groove with Russel and Jonathan rhythm; fantastic, and, love the way Troy comes in; what a joy!
Love Emmet and his place! So much wonderful music coming from there.

pas mal du tout cette énérgie malgré la tendance un peu trop jam. La bonne humeur est visiblement présente.
Mannnnn! Insane!
Bless this channel and musicians for playing the standards!
That was incredible! Thanks for sharing!
So good! Everyone is having so much fun. I love it ^.^
Awesome!
Incredible ! !
Anybody else see when they randomly played the same line at the beginning? You could see Troy smile when it happens. Around 0:50
