Dont forget he had damaged his embouchure, but with a great tutor, who I think was Lew Soloff rebuilt everything and started playing with more air in his sound and with the best use of tongue. He is GOAT!!!
The best modern RUclips channel for jazz, period, you won’t find anything better than this, there is really no competition, nobody beats Emmets group, and his features.
Getting deeper into appreciating jazz leads to amazing insights into the interplay between advanced players like these. Love those cats! Big love for Brecker.
Randy Brecker just did an event with the local community college and the director of jazz at my college (Cuesta community and Cal Poly SLO, respectively) and it was amazing. Brecker is amazing. Love his sound and his compositions.
I loved it!!! Randy's playing is still amazing. For Chad its like a toy, he's got some much harmonic, soul and technical ability he's just playing with it. He's amazing The drummer and bass are outstanding and the Emmet's piano playing just blew me away.... Thanks guys for making this.....It totally made my day!!!!!
Crazy to think but this guy LB is as good as any sax player who has come before as far as I can tell. He’s completely assimilated all the language and does everything flawlessly. I don’t know what else you could ask for 🤷🏻♂️
What makes Randy a true heavyweight is that he combined awesome technique and yet he can still growl and get dirty .Plus don't forget he's a Philly boy and I lived in Philly 20 years and if you can survive living in Philly as a musician you're a bad mama jammer I had to dodge bullets going to jazz clubs just to make 50 bucks playing in a clubs Iike Gerts . I'm not much for playing a lot of standards because they're overplayed and if you're going to do a song like Cantaloupe Island or moaning if you don't kill it then you need to go home. Randy killed it .And trust me playing in a little cramped room for any musicians is tough because you have no natural acoustics and everything's dry .But despite the odds they still sounded great .
I met Randy in Philly once, long time ago. He was on his way to a gig, had his trumpet. I was a teenager, starstruck. I stopped him and said hi, that I was a fan. He was nothing but nice to me, real cool, said he appreciates the love from fans. I'll never forget it.
Listening with headphones its so funny when they play the theme how the audio just dont wanna match to the persons and instruments in your brain because they are panned the oposite way of how they‘re standing
Same as The Consouls who do incredible things with VGM and Pat Bartley's J-Music Ensemble - all criminally under-subscribed for the amount of talent in the performance. At least one day wjen they go viral we can boast that we were there from the beginning 😉
In contrast to the walls of sound created by Chad and Randy, Emmet's innings is full of light, air and space. Reminds me of Herbie, but Herbie is 80+ and Emmet is 30 - how does he take all that experience on board?
Love this!!!!! Can anyone explain why the trumpet players mouthpiece is slightly off center to his lips? I played french horn and started on trumpet to pick up the basics as they are very similar...anyway I am familiar with playing a brass instrument and I don't remember deviating from meeting the mouthpiece dead center.
Man, Randy’s gotta be in his 70s by now and the chops are still sounding great! The result of a strong, healthy embouchure
76 and going strong
Dont forget he had damaged his embouchure, but with a great tutor, who I think was Lew Soloff rebuilt everything and started playing with more air in his sound and with the best use of tongue. He is GOAT!!!
@@jimmanariotis1883 Wondering if he played with the off-center embouchure before the damage...
Strong foundation in sound concept from Bill Adam to credit here as well. “If your mind leaves the sound of the horn, obstacles will appear."
@@williamanderson9557 I think he first had the damage done and then had went off center but with a stronger foundation.
I only wish that Roy Hargrove could have been featured on one of these sessions , you all know what he would have brought
I found myself thinking just exactly the same thing a couple of days ago
Oh hells yeah bro. ✊🎺🎺🎺
:)
Gosh, Roy was just so cool.
If he was still alive maybe
The best modern RUclips channel for jazz, period, you won’t find anything better than this, there is really no competition, nobody beats Emmets group, and his features.
agreed
crap
That rhythm section is a wind players dream
Solid and flexible. They listen and respond, lead and follow.
Fact!
Getting deeper into appreciating jazz leads to amazing insights into the interplay between advanced players like these. Love those cats! Big love for Brecker.
Work Song quote at 6:26 works so well! Chad killed that solo!
9:48 and Watermelon Man
and guys you ommited "jean pierre" at 4:25
Drinking a pint in the pub listening, what a glorious accompaniment, Cheers Emmet!
There's something so bold and exciting about Randy's playing
easy to recognize a love of instrument and the music. bold, definitive, generous and caring.
Randy Brecker just did an event with the local community college and the director of jazz at my college (Cuesta community and Cal Poly SLO, respectively) and it was amazing. Brecker is amazing. Love his sound and his compositions.
Wow, Chad LB & Randy Brecker oO Amazing version !
Great!
Will we have Chad and Patrick together?
👀
I dream of this duo
That duo would be insane.
MAN YESSSS!
It looks like the inside of somebody's living room... A wonderful rendition of this classic!
Simply because it IS somebody's living room 😜 Emmet's - to be specific 👌🏻❤️
@@lilackey That's pretty boss...I'd love to have such cool stuff in my living room.
the trumpet and sax being panned opposite the video is really tripping me out lol
I hear you! Sometimes being a critical listener is actually a detriment to pure enjoyment!
flip ur headphones
@@emretekmen1602 but then everything else is flipped
Randy Brecker, the last of the great Jazz trumpet innovators, best channel ever!! Emmet, you are one of a kind. Some nice Herbie licks..
No shade to Randy, but you really might enjoy Christian Scott. People are still playing trumpet...
I loved it!!! Randy's playing is still amazing. For Chad its like a toy, he's got some much harmonic, soul and technical ability he's just playing with it. Maaaaannnn Emmet, Randy, and Chad??? Yes!! The whole band is killin!
Crazy to think but this guy LB is as good as any sax player who has come before as far as I can tell. He’s completely assimilated all the language and does everything flawlessly. I don’t know what else you could ask for 🤷🏻♂️
All the guys are smiling' throughout this beauty. You gotta thing going here Emmet !
One of the most amazing versions of this classic. Thank you Emmet for literally blowing us all away again!
Man why is trumpet in the right speaker and saxophone in the left? They are standing the opposite way.
When life drags you through the mud if you are lucky you look up and see a brilliant diamond. Thanks Emmit
Chad LB closing that solo out like a master
Avant-garde jazz very well interpreted by new people who know what they are doing. congratulations
Very rhythmic and so good to have solos. So enjoying it!!!

‘… then you need to go home’ if that were true nobody would ever play. Would that we could all be Chad LB or Kurt Rosenwinkel!
Randy is so freakin good
Without question this is one of the best things that has happened on RUclips. Thanks Emmett you are a Mensch.
Thank you Emmet for your music and for creating such an awesome platform for incredible talent to share with the world!!
Listening with headphones its so funny when they play the theme how the audio just dont wanna match to the persons and instruments in your brain because they are panned the oposite way of how they‘re standing
Absolutely love these guys - the best live jazz on the Tube hands down....
💯 EC3, The Consouls and Pat Bartley's J-Music are my top 3. (Love your username btw!)
@@cooldebt Nice one thanks for the steer...😎
Very inspired expansion of the form and harmony by the group, going in and out, yet always in style!!
They got into some interesting stuff w that tenor solo.
Outstsnding even among Emmet’s outstanding work! Bravissimo!
Michael Brecker and Roy Hargrove must both be in heaven smiling right now
Can't tell you - I enjoy this channel so much!!!

strange...takes me back to hot jazz in France.....awesome setting, real and unpretentious....awesome
Estou aqui do Brasil, extasiado com vcs. 👏👏👏❤❤❤
and Kudos to the recording engineer(s)
9:20 was that a Brecker Overtone lick that Emmet played?
Yes. It's a lick that Jan Hammer used to play on the Moog, which Mike adapted for tenor sax. Randy immediately got it.
Great piano man! Bass man and drummer sounding fabulous.
Really nice playing, and fresh stuff on this common jamtune…I will probably steal some of your stuff here Emmet😉👍
Bardzo sympatyczna wersja, brawo 👏👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What a great time of music 😁
Keep the classics coming!
Kyle Poole man ...wonderful, always interesting, love you man...

大好き!
Great sax solo!!
Man that's great. Loved all of it. So alive.
such a great performance
Toca muito o Randy Brecker, também pudera, é irmão do Michael Brecker! Um monstro no sax tenor.
In contrast to the walls of sound created by Chad and Randy, Emmet's innings is full of light, air and space. Reminds me of Herbie, but Herbie is 80+ and Emmet is 30 - how does he take all that experience on board?
Nice one! Great sound!
this is something else 🔥

Watermelon Man quote was so smooth
Wow!
Ok. Gracias
Great feeling! Great rhythm section!!
Is that the name of that song? … heard it a million times. A timeless melody played by GIANTS in music. 💐~~

Man, I would love be this healthy and playing this sharp at the age of Randy!
Emmet’s comping is sick
Emmet's solo was exquisite. Damn.

Reminds me of Us3's big pop hit from the 90s!

Later sampled in Cantaloop by Us3.
Kyle Poole, Ladies and gentlemen !!!! 😁
What sort of cymbal play? Real live sound
Check out Randy and Michael with Horace Silver. CRAZY.
