the salt peanuts lick at 3:48 from lead trumpet is crazy 😭😭

I would call Emmet`s place as The New Cool Jazz, because jazz is fun not competition. I love the spirit! This is why music is the closest vibe to (devachan!) God`s heart. Bless for everyobody who have ears to hear
dude as a 7th grade trumpet player this really inspires me to become better at my instrument and this makes me want to find friends to play stuff like this with me.
you're on the right track man. I wish I explored jazz more and attempted to play more jazz standards like this when I was in middle school. Just keep playing as much as you can and dig deep into every standard you play, they'll stick with you for the rest of your life.
@@batmanfortnite2006 this. I completely agree. Couldn't have said it better myself. It's a real anchor for life, it's extremely valuable to have a creative and emotional outlet such as music going through life. And you can play until the day you die!
Just FYI Emmet, if you see the comment section of this blow up in the next few weeks, understand that its because of JoJo's Bizarre adventure part 9. the manga is famous for using song and band names for its power system, and one of the newest ones is "Bags' Groove". so expect alot of new people to show up and make references to it.
This is another "it's a small world" moment - I played a memorial service for a friend of mine in Santa Barbara today (our former mayor was an amazing man), and his daughter-in-law (who I barely know), sat down at the same reception table. First thing she says is, "Thank you Debbie for introducing me to Emmet Cohen's music!" She is a BIG fan. On Mondays I stop teaching my piano students in time to hear Live From Emmet's Place - they know this is 'sacred time' for me, and I encourage them to listen too. My last Monday student is learning "Bag's Groove" - I know she'll be inspired by this, & I hope it won't intimidate her - she has talent but not enough confidence yet. Taking it slow.. These EC3+ shows always seem relevant with their tune choices!
I got to sit in with Benny at Minton's this past Thursday at the jam session he hosts - not only an amazing talent (he played piano on Blue Bossa!) a genuinely nice and welcoming human being. Was a thrill of a lifetime for me to meet a superstar and actually play with him on an iconic stage. Jazz is in great hands with these young lions.
So enjoyed all these sessions of the talented Emmet who can play just about any style and emanates love for jazz and unselfishly cameos other musicians accented with smiles, laughs, and matched improvisation. Keep the sessions coming!
A year on since I first watched this and never, ever tire of it. I see something new in the drumming every time I watch! Merry Christmas and joy to all at Emmet's Place, and to all the other listeners!
Why did I just discover Emmet Cohen, these amazing muscians as well as Patrick Bartley today. I've been listening too much from the period of the late 40s to early 80s but have been sleeping on the current muscians...this is excellent and i found a new addiction!
When I was in high school and to a lesser extent the semester I spent in college for jazz studies, this was a common tune to call at jam sessions. Its really a song I learned a lot of vocabulary playing. From my friends and professional musicians. We never amounted to anything this exciting though
This is what is known as a "TIGHT" Combo. Oh they are nice. I'm in my study, on a sunny winter's day, books, papers, cluttered over tables, chairs and even a bed that you can't even see because there is stuff all over it, and with this music turned on and up I feel like I'm in an after hours supper club at 2:13 am spinning the ice around in my rum and coke and ready to order a plate of sizzling calimari for my lady and me. I'm ready to break out my roll and spend it all, because this night it's ON!
Obviously this is absolutely amazing, but Emmet, why did you cut Russ' bass-intro off at the beginning? I miss it every time, so now I have to scroll to 1:38:50 on your birthday session every time 😬.
OH MAN THAT SALT PEANUTS QUOTE WAS SO COOL
I was just chilling in class until I heard salt peanuts and I know for sure I didn’t play salt peanuts 😂
the old devil moon quote was the slickest though
@@petergoggin8647 did you hear the society red quote though? that was super slick too!

7:22 most tasteful use of the lick i’ve heard in a LONG TIME
Normally in these videos it's Emmet pulling out the lick. I've heard it at least four times from him alone on Live at Emmet's Place.
James Bond killing it on drums. . . .move over Daniel Craig!

I thought that was kevin costner ...
nah he's bruce willis
That's right - this comes to one's mind instantly!! Bong, James Bong!! Cool stuff - this group of musicians really rock!!!
That’s Joe Farnsworth - legendary drummer from the NYC scene!
6:12 is a prime example of musicians listening and reacting to each other in the moment!

well said, I feel like im right there with them, having a blast playing along
Just when you thought it wouldn’t get any better...my guy on contrabass scats his solo. Mind blown!

What's JoJo's? I came here after I accidentally went to the ICU instead of MRI
