Hurricane-force Gales blowing through! Each member sounds fantastic but Larry just [redacted] fucking kills it! Shave and a haircut indeed! The recording sounds great too. It's a win/win/win/win/win!
That ride cymbal sounds an Eb7 lol - like a pedal-tone for the whole piece, and the bass is more driving than Ray Brown - incredible rhythmic push and pull bs/drms creates a pocket wider than a clowns ...- incredible swing feel !! thanks BBC ! and super post... (btw i know the piece is RC in Bb..... duh)
Talking to myself: This session was miked up really nice. Drums came through nice and clear, the bass.. sounded great, piano and sax as well. Credit to the sound guys.
You've got a challenge before you playing for a staid British audience of the time, but then again they were there by choice so I guess that's saying something.
Great name, great guy, great group. Outstanding actually. ❤
One of the greatest quartets in jazz history
Absolutely!
Although I love the Monk, Rouse, Ore(or Warren)and Dunlop group even more!
No doubt!
@@postatility9703Ben Riley is the swingiest drummer I have ever heard..so it’s hard to decide..
Great bass solo!! I love that he keeps walking but goes in and out of the harmony making a lot of tension and the repeated phrase is also great !

A thin line between Jazz and Funk. Totally Awesome 💃🏿🎺🎹🎷🥁🎸
Driving bass seems to enhance everyone.. and they're all amazing
Charlie Rouse kills it!
Yes, Charlie was great! Perhaps one of the most underrated tenors.
He was the first Bebop tenor player I listened to as a kid. He is still one of my all time favourites. No one else sounds like him.

Monk, the master of dissonance. A great group.
Can't get enough of Monk! Thanks!
Monk has played w/many of great and big name tenor men but none n my in fit his music like his main band mate Charlie Rouse... 🎶💖
You mean those tenor men played with Monk. And yes, Charlie Rouse was great.
@@vova47 😂
Charlie Rouse was with him longer than any of them
Charlie was just so good

That Monk dude has an outworldish sense of rhythm, he could be a jazzman.
Larry Gales is truly Rythm-A-Ning!

Come for the Monk; stay for the Rouse.
Increíble banda.

You could also shorten the title of this to "Rhyming" because Monk's music always does.
Yeah, man!!!
Take some screenshots out of that bass solo and colorize them up. That was serious!
