  • Emiliano Martinez is an absolute menace. Probably the greatest villain in world football at the moment, as well as the most in demand goalkeeper for a penalty shootout.
    However, he wasn't always a superstar. How did this happen?

    Let's be honest, the "problem" with Martinez is that he's from South America. This type of behavior isn't new in football at all. Shittalk is always there, dancing for celebration is always there, arrogant player are always gonna be there, but it only "hurts" when it comes from us. I'm at least happy that the goaly gets to be the scary player this time, and in a team with Messi that's saying a lot

      My calmness might have been partly due to the fact that the Copa America matches start at around 6 in the morning in India; but, generally, I start sweating bullets as soon as Argentina gets to penalties. However, since Dibu has almost made it inevitable that he'll give his team a massive advantage in the pens, I've been calmer. 7.32 meters wide by 2,44 meters high, total 17.9 sqm. This is a football goal size.
    An average goalkeeper size 1.8 m by 0.6 m, with arms extended 2.2 m by 0.6 m; total 1.3 sqm. So, a goalkeeper covers only 7.3% of the total goal surface exposed to a penalty shot.
    With these figures one may think that professional strikers missing a penalty shot is unbelievable, however, psychological pressure does the job and Dibu adds more fuel to the burning strikers' braincells badly needing to beat him. This is art.

    As a Liverpool fan, I actually like his style and am now a fan of his. It sucks that players who scored goals can go mental with their celebrations but as soon as Dibu showboats, it's a problem. Why can't he or any other GK celebrate a save they made or try to rattle other players as long as they don't do it physically and keep loved ones out of it? These are professional footballers who get paid ridiculous amounts of money so they should have nerves of steel when rival players or rival fans heckle them.
    Anyway, his kind of shithousery is awesome, in my opinion. Here's how I see it: If he beats my team, I'd obviously be pissed and that kind of frustration will make you work even harder and when you face him again and win, it will just be that much sweeter and that kind of emotion is almost nonexistent in football.
    Besides, if he can handle criticism and heckling from arsehole attackers who scored against him, then they shouldn't act like pissy little children when he returns the favour

    I loved the video, and couldn't agree more with you. I'm a Colombian and most people around me hate Dibu due to last Copa América semifinals. We're up to play them again this Sunday. I find that hatred coming from double standards and frustration, more than the alleged "sportmanship", and hence I feel they're hypocritical, even if unknowingly. When there's no player in the world that fakes a fault or wastes time at the end of a crucial match or provokes the opponent in uncountable ways during the whole match like Uruguayans did Colombians in the semifinals just this week, then tell me Martinez lacks sportmanship, but up to now dirty play has been essential in football and every single player has resorted to it during their career. Even ultradefensive lineups against perceived better teams tend to dirty matches, make them slow and unplayable, usually ending in fights. There are teams that make "tactical" faults the whole game to decrease the opponent's rythm of play, and that's not lack of sportmanship? Naaaaah, that's "strategy". Bollocks. Then there's a keeper who's an absolute master at mind games, and, lo and behold! He lacks sportmanship. To me that sounds like hipocrisy and envy, because he's just waaaaaaaay better than everyone at it. And your'e also right in that, once the games end and in interviews, he's a smart, beautiful, sensitive guy. He knows it's part of the game, and that's it. I personally love and admire Dibu, and have a great time everytime I see him play. And that will not change if he beats my national team in a penalty shootout this Sunday.

    Hola.
¡Vamos Argentina, carajo!

    This video just tells his story in such a way that someone who literally used to consider this person an asshole for his antics can't help but somewhat agree to his methods, it did get his team results and he didn't even break any pre-existing rules to get those results too, football in general is all tilted towards glorifying the goalscorers, hence no player since Yashin has ever won the Ballon D'or, but, that's a different story altogether,A goalscorer can miss 10 chances and score a crucial goal to become the hero, but a goalkeeper can make 100s of crucial saves but 1 mistake somehow dooms their career in some cases (for e.g Karius) granted he was never one of the best or anywhere near consideration for that, but as a Liverpool fan myself even though the loss of 2018 was painful, it is just sad that one game costed him his career and all that followed, its high time the playing field is made a little more even, although his mockery of Mbappe during Argentina celebration was a little overboard and distasteful and that's one aspect perhaps he could mend, but, you can't forget how Mbappe literally insulted the entire south american contingent before the 2022 World cup, so that's a very thin line to tread on

      Shithouse behaviour is just a football thing, the sport is filled with insufferable clowns, so there should be no complaint about Martinez weaponizing average football behaviour to better keep his goal and get the world cup.
      As for Mbappe, the guy is a shitstain in football history, I haven't heard of a single player who has dealt with him who has a positive opinion of him. On top of that he actively picked a fight with Martinez' country before the world cup started.
      So in my opinion, he got off easy, Martinez had every right to insult him harder. Strange how when someone like Mbappe displays clear racism and xenophobia he doesn't get any sort of fine or unsporstmanslike behaviour suspension, but when a white player does it they get blacklisted, isn't it?

    Only covering Martinez's proficiency in penalties is selling him short. He is an incredible al around goalkeeper and leader in general. He makes amazing consistent saves, and in this Copa America he's been outstanding. He's even started placing very precise long ball passes which isn't something we're used to from Argentina. • @narrow3601
    @narrow3601 12 дней назад +3

    If I'm being completely honest, I can already consider him the greatest penalty kick saver of all time. It's one thing for keepers to be able to keep a few shots out here and there, I mean no one would blame them if it was inconsistent because gk's are already at a disadvantage anyways in Pens. Some of the greatest goalkeepers ever could never be consistent with Penalty saves during shootouts, usually differing performances between tournaments. But they would always receive a pat on the back as long as they were able to save a single Pen every now and then to which everyone would just say good job and sing their praises. But Emi, he's... different. Like no one else I've ever seen he exudes confidence unto his team because they already know he's saving 2 when the time comes. Let that sink in for a bit. A gk, who is naturally at a disadvantage, is the one who gives his team the biggest breather and sense of comfort at the mere THOUGHT of the whistle to start the Penalty kicks. I have never seen anything like it, and it works. His teammates' pressure is immediately alleviated as they step up to take a pen because before they even take it, their opponent has already missed 1. By the time the 4th taker is up, the opponent has already missed 2. Do you know how insane that is? And it's not just a performance like that happening here and there, he's like that everytime they go to pens. He consistently saves 2 kicks on the spot each time the match is decided through Penalties, hell even the national team themselves are aware of this phenomenon. It's mind bending, if he wasn't already the best goalkeeper to ever hit the spot between the posts for penalty kicks, he's at least firmly the best of this generation.

I remember very distinctly being on a bus on july 10th, 2021 and saying to a friend that Dibu was incredible against Colombia in penalties and that the only similar miracle i could think of was Goycochea. An old man next to me said "Yes, i think it was even better. He's gonna bring us glory". Dibu said many times that he promised Messi the world cup, and he delivered.
