Rewind the clock back to 2008, and a novice Spaniard in the first year of his first team managerial career led Barca to the promised land. Unprecedented success, unbelievable records and an evergreen legacy would follow almost immediately.
Today, we take a look back at this ridiculous period.

The most shocking part of this Barca team is not the fact they were this good but the fact that half of their players and even managers were homegrown. The odds of the worlds greatest ever defenders, Midfielders and Forwards all graduting from the same academy around the same time are astronomically small. Only competitor is probably the 70s Bayern team with Gerd Muller, Beckenbauer and Sepp Maier

But when oppositions faced Barcelona, they had no other options but to park the bus literally the whole time. Even big clubs parked the bus against them. After all they were too much. 6 times in the next season. They faced each other too many times and after all of that most people (myself included) felt exhausted. Some other things of Pep's Guardiola Barcelona :
    - In the final of the Champions League 2009 , due to Dani Alves and Abidal not been able to play , Sergio Busquets played as a right back lol
    - Guardiola also rotated Pique with Rafa Marquez at first cuz Pique was not used on playing every single game since at United he was a sub
    - Messi was just one more player , he was just a plus. On very tough games Messi was not the hero , they were others showing up
    - The thing of this Barcelona of 2008/09 is that they were not the favorites for anything. They started slow , for the Spanish league Madrid was still the favorite , and for the Champions League the Premier Leagues were still the grand favorites to win it all. They became favorites after the brutal wins they have during the season
    - Furthermore , he develop a very crucial thing which is to play the ball from behind or from the goalkeeper. Instead of the goalkeeper blowing the ball off , he would pass it to the closest defender , and start playing it from there to the other opposition. This sounds like nothing but it reflects on how many games they won cuz they always keep the ball and dont give any chance for the opposition to have it
    - In addition to that , Guardiola change the training style of Barca. He make everyone on the squad to make passes like they were midfielders. This is shown more on Manchester City where even Ederson the goalkeeper , can make amazing passes from his position.
    - In all 4 seasons that Guardiola was in Barcelona , he achieved more than 90+ points , in which he won 3 la Liga and one of those was with 99 points
    - In comparison his 2008-09 to his 2010/11 season , its that the 2011 season teams were a lot more tougher , teams knew how to play against Barcelona , and Pep came out with new tactics so they can come out on top.
    - Also , in comparing 2009 to 2011 , is different cuz in 2009 Pep's Barca was more of an underdog , a Barca that was been "revived" , while the 2011 Barca was more of the "can Barca stayed at the top"
    - During those years Guardiola also promoted so many youth players to the main team , making La Masia the best "academy" in the world during that time
    - Guardiola's Barca peak was probably in the Club's world cup on 2011 against Neymar's Santos , they blitz and destroy them 4-0 with 9 La Masia players on the pitch
    - His Barca was so successful that it lead to Spanish teams leaving behind the 4-4-2 or the 4-5-1 in favor of the 4-3-3 and also leaving a mark on other leagues too
    - Because Guardiola won everything on his very first season , he pretty much set the standard so fucking high that I dont think its possible to always achieved it

To say Messi was one more player is just stupidity.
It is well documented that when Rijkaard increased a young Messi's minutes in the 05/06 season the team clicked and began performing better.
Pep even wrote an article in the local paper that he wanted to build the team around Messi after watching him play in the 2006 World Cup.
And Barcelona would never be where they are without Messi.
And if you really think the guy who won the 4 Ballon d'or in a row during Pep's reign was just another player you might need a health check-up.

@@elizabethcsicsery-ronay1633 I think most players playing in the top league of certain nations (Spain included.) would be considered, the best.
Many of those players never get recognition and those in the lower leagues with more natural talent than some in the above, find it even harder.
If you find a manager with a top system who can spot such players when they're young, use and develop them within his system they'll likely become winners, eventually being considered a great.
Sometimes tho, you get freak players who can adapt to whatever system/team you put them in and they continue to break every record there is (COUGH, Ronaldo, COUGH COUGH...). Such players are VERY rare, which is why the team and manager should always override the individual, no matter how good that individual is. Ronaldo and Messi included. Spain's national team can be boring since thay don't have that kind of players but insist with the same style nevertheless: loads of passing the ball sideways and backwards but attempting very little, creatively poor. Maybe the rate of parking the bus against certain comps increase once you see what works, but parking the bus is and has been a normal default option against significantly stronger teams since forever. Even when you don't plan for it, you wind up back there when you face a dominant opponent since they keep having the ball close to the goal.

Its obvious to me now, that Barça was the greatest team ever that played the game. Leo in his young blood days, Xavi and Don Andreas dictating the game their way and Puyi, a captain the world will never see again at the back.
Goosebumps every single time I think or talk about them and knowing how many people, especially non Barça fans and even rivals acknowledging the fact that they were the very best football they has ever seen. Makes me proud and very happy.

Pep is almost the perfect coach. He brought Barcelona, Bayern, Manchester City to an entirely new level. The only problem was, that he makes himself enemies and is often asking the players to do more than their bodies are able to. During his time at Bayern, his players often ended up being injured by the end of the season, which is also why Bayern didnt win the Champions League even they were probably the best team in europe back then.

Would have been a possible 3 CL's in a row if it were not for that semi-final against Mourinho's Inter. He claimed Barca were "fixated" on getting to the final, as it was being held in the Santiago Bernabéu that year. It seems a pragmatic, defend for your lives counter attack way of playing football was one of the few methods of getting a result against Barca in that era. Chelsea did the same in 2012 with those Ramires and Torres goals.
For me, there are definitely "teams of an era" and the Barcelona one is definitely the team of the early 21st Century. AC Milans team of the late 80s/early 90s and the Arsenal team of the late 90s/early 00s are the only teams in my lifetime that were exciting and enchanting to watch.
