Speaking to Sarah Michelle was an absolute dream, one of the most humble people I’ve ever met and I’m so excited she’s acting again
I love her. I think she doesn't realize how ICONIC she is. That shows how humble she is.
amazing omg, I would pass out!! Mother
This was so awesome seeing her again!😍I'm a Gen-Xer, my daughter and I watched her early on in "Swan's Crossing"! Am I old af or does anyone else remember that??? 🤣
Lucky!
How could you miss her work on The Big Bang Theory?!? 😺
That ‘mommy’ from Buffy still wrenches my heart to this day and I’m 43 years old.
Haven't even gotten to that point and damn I started to tear up at just the mention
When my wife had her stroke 6 years ago, and the ambulance was trying to get a response, she was staring straight forward and lifeless just as Joyce was. I still see it often when I close my eyes. (she did pull through, albeit with partial paralysis and aphasia, but still)
Saaaaame
I found out my mother had cancer shortly before I watched this episode. The lack of music and minimal sounds made it so real. F-ing wrecked me
Yeah, that’s what really gets you. The silence is SO loud. And then the shift in Buffy’s voice when she changes from ‘mom’ to ‘mommy’.
Heart wrenching.
It's always amazed me that in 7 seasons of Buffy with monsters, apocalypses, doomed loves, musicals and resurrections, Joyce's completely ordinary death and particularly its aftermath remains the most powerful sequence. SMG's 'Mommy?' and Emma Caulfield's bewildered monologue are both heart-breaking and perfect.
First time I saw it on TV I was ok, extremely sad but ok, until Anya broke. There was just something in her reaction that broke me.
@@xyex Yes, it's Anja's speech that sells it. Emma's performance of utter incomprehension captures the reaction to sudden death so perfectly, building on Buffy's fantasies and Willow's panic. It's a great example of something fun and silly achieving something serious and great.
@@stephenjohnston7630 I love watching reactors react to that scene, too. Because they typically have the same reaction as Willow at first, thinking Anya's questions are in bad taste, and then they break when Anya does and realize why she was asking.
willow wanting to find joyces favorite sweater always hit me really hard
It's the most REAL thing in the entire series and that's what makes it so hard to watch. For me it was especially hard after I lost my own mother.
That whole episode was brilliant - from the writing to the acting to the way it was shot.
"The blonde girl who saved the world a lot." Every fan would rage if it wasn't included. 🤣☠️
That Buffy scene was so heartbreaking...we all thought Joyce had finally made it and then we got that scene 😭
Yup. Just like real cancer. You think it’s gone then it returns. Just lost my Aunt to it
Yep
I've never seen the show but watching the clip , it looked so incredibly fake and not like a real dead body, so I'm shocked that this effected so many people
@@kassinwonderland22 we were all invested in the characters and no one expected her to die so suddenly. It was a punch in the gut for all fans
@@kassinwonderland22It‘s filmed in a bit off-colors, the way you process information when you are in shock. If someone has been in a similar situation before, they recognize this and that makes it even harder to watch.
She has aged so incredibly good. Still as beautiful as ever.
True
half a month older than me. time runs :)
yeah: Botox helps so many celebrities ^^
She has. But her voice has really changed, somehow.
She doesn’t seem to age, actually is even more beautiful now.
I love that she’s says not iconic… BUT YOU ARE BABE!!! 🤩
Why doesn’t she describe herself as iconic? She also doesn’t describe herself as a scream queen either. She’s both actually.
My bedroom wall during the 90’s w the Buffy poster that said if the apocalypse comes beep me says she was definitely an icon. Loved her & I’ll sit through wolf pack just for her.
She's just been modest. She knows shes iconic
Part of being iconic is only allowing other people to say it, but never believing your own hype. You will always seek to improve in any small way.
Lol the BABE WITH THE POWER if you know you know
It's honestly so incredible how she's able to recall things like the costume designer in Scooby Doo. She clearly is someone who takes her role as a leader on set so seriously. An incomparable icon of the screen. I love her so much.
Pedro Pascal was in the Season 4 Premiere when he was pretty young. 20? He said he remembers everything about it. He said Sarah was really helpful.
I can’t believe she doesn’t see herself as iconic. Buffy is still my favorite show of all time. I grew up with it and it really had a huge part in shaping me into the person I am today
I thought she meant she doesn't think all of these roles are iconic. She would have picked a few different choices.
@@kyleellis1825 she just isn’t a braggart, which I think is rare in celebrities
@@Psych_Major_Blonde Definitly an aspect of that as well.
That scene on Buffy when she found her mom had passed… literally was the most upsetting horrifying and honest piece of TV I’ve probably ever seen. If it was so fkn powerful and devastating and beautiful and traumatizing. Love Joyce. Love Buffy.
I agree I watched it a few months after my month passed it was so sad but think they nailed it. Seemed so real
Sarah is incredible! Her comedic timing is absolutely perfect but I'll never forget the scene in Buffy where Giles tells her that dawn (her sister) has to die to save the world and she responded "say it, we're bloody well talking about this!" Tell me to kill my sister" i literally had chills up my spine by her intensity/depth and you really believed she truly was Buffy Summers. 👏🏻👏🏻💯💯❤️
She's an icon!
She’s honestly a brilliant actor. True genius. And so underrated, but so massively talented.
She WAS great....even though she was a fictional sister that never even existed as a person and in effect Buffy was basically brainwashed and used as a protector. Honestly, kind of hated Dawn and Trachtenberg the whole 2 seasons.
Helen Shivers should have been the Final Girl. She has the best chase scene in any horror film.
This is why she needed to go. Also, she was very selfish and self absorbed. So she needed to pay for her sins, unlike Julie who was actually the only one feeling guilt over what they did.
@@mightybitchy they all felt guilt in their own way, even Barry. Somewhere along the line it was decided that Julie would be the main focus as they all survived in the novel.
@@mightybitchy The final couple was clearly Helen and Barry. Barry was protective of Helen. More than the aloof Ray ever was. Julie was completely selfish, being outwardly miserable.
@@mightybitchy she also abandoned Helen multiple times
Why did they leave out the Scream cameo?
I’ll forever hate the fact that her show Ringer got cancelled after one season. It was phenomenal
She actually chose to cancel it. They wanted to renew it and she I believe got pregnant and wanted to focus on family and didn't think she could carry on the show.
Agree so much that show was top tier!
Loved it!!
FOX's Ringer Was SOOO
MUCH BETTER Then NBC's
#TheCrazyOnes! Eventhough
I ADORE BOTH Robin & Sarah,
THAT WASN'T The Right Show,
As It Did NEITHER One Justice!
@@williamskelton325 I would have been annoyed by the choice if she acted in something else within a few years. But she really did take some time off to be present for her children in the early years. I think Freddie is doing the stay at home dad stuff (or at least working part time) now.
I hear her voice and I'm 11 years old again, small, blonde and unpopular, and I'm learning how to be strong by watching Buffy show me the way. She really had more of an impact on my life than I'll ever be able to put into words.
It warms my heart to see SMG on the screen again she was my safe haven as a kid. I watched everything she did religiously, and Buffy still holds my heart. Love you, SMG
She is iconic and she’ll always be the moment
She's so humble and talented. That buffy scene where Joyce dies will forever make me sob
i know she has had many many roles but BUFFY will ALLWAYS be Sarah's iconic role for me i still binge watch the entire series even in 2023...
Right?! It's actually one of my comfort shows for so many reasons. Just because it is such an amazing show but also is so nostalgic for me & brings me back to my childhood when I was OBSESSED with Buffy. I have never been as obsessed with a show as much as I was with Buffy. I remember being 12 & buying a punching bag & hanging it up in my room cuz I wanted to be a badass like Buffy 🤣 I am now binge watching it again for the millionth time. It never gets old.
Why did they pick a scene from The Body for Buffy?! That's so brutal!
to show the range darling
Probably because its the best episode of Buffy they made? Its pure art. Only Hush comes kind of close in quality.
@@KS-xk2so oh I agree, it's complete art, but still brutal to have her watch it haha
@K S according to most fans, it's a 3-way tie with those 2 plus OMWF.
@@Ataraxy123 Meh, OMWF is great fun and has some good songs. but I'd put Hush and The Body a full notch above it... maybe even 2 notches.
Sarah was my idol growing up. I wanted to be just like her. Love her!!

shocked they didn't put in "all my children" in this video. SMG did win an Emmy for her role in the show.
I thought about that too but figured the Buzzfeed audience doesn’t recognize All My Children as iconic
@@Lynda957 Buzzfeed of all things? AMC is super iconic.
Me too. I used to watch it with my mom.
Probably because this was on buzzfeed UK and All My Children was a US-only soap opera. I don't think it ever aired in other countries, like Buffy did (and obviously the films were international as well).
Kendall Hart was hell on wheels when SMG was in the role. If she wasn't antagonizing Erica, she was manipulating Anton. Janet was the only one willing to be Kendall's friend - and Janet was looney tunes herself!
All of her roles are iconic. Buffy, Daphne, Helen, Kathryn. All are fantastic. Even through her role in Scream 2 isn't that big, her death scene is one the best in the movie. Comparable to the Drew Barrymore scene in the original. She's such a great actress and seems like a genuinely lovely person. And she is from what I've heard about her. I've admired her my whole life.
Even after the stunt double outcry, the worst SMG ever really did was very minor "jerk" moments when she was protecting the cast from Joss and working 16-20 hour days. So all things considered, she really is a saint if she just got into a few arguements.
I saw her in Sephora some years ago. She was loud and talkative. Like she is here. Have always loved her since Buffy. She is iconic.
What state were you in?
@@lessismore8533 santa monica california- i saw her at the sephora on third street promenade
One movie of hers that I'd VIOLENTLY underrated is Veronika Decides to Die. It's a beautiful movie and I'd seriously suggest checking it out
YES the piano scene…Radiohead and Sarah in the beginning
I loved that movie! and the book is even better
Absolutely!
It‘s one of my favorites of her‘s.
If anyone ever needed „proof“ that SMG is an incredible character actress… well, just watch this movie.
It‘s slow paced and intense and probably not for everyone, but her performance gives me shivers.
Well worth watching.
OMG I forgot about that one. And yes it's an amazing movie
Even the “I hate” speech she has is so intense on that movie. It’s so good!
Showing “The Body” as the Buffy clip is actually sadistic. SMG doesn’t deserve that without warning and neither do we.
I also feel bad for younger ppl who might have watched this interview and wanted to watch the show. Talk about major spoilers 🙈
Plenty of moments on BTVS they could had shown to represent the show and they had to use the most saddest and traumatic scene in television history. 🤦🏻♂️
Yeah, you can't just show that without a proper warning first, I need to prepare myself for it
They should’ve done the “Me.” moment from The Becoming prt2
Well, it's the best episode of the show.
So thankful for the press she is doing for Wolf Pack, and that people are paying attention. Always a queen SMG.
Wolf Pack is another woke dumpster fire that will be cancelled soon, and shame on Sarah for being so desperate to become relevant again to let herself be used just to attract attention to that horrible show. Without her nobody would even give it a second thought and an old Sarah Michelle Gellar won't be enough to carry the show.

Simply Irresistible is one of my absolute favorites that Sarah Michelle Gellar did! I wish more people knew about it!
Sarah should have gotten another Emmy for The Body episode.
I say Sarah Michelle could perfectly pull off an older Buffy nowadays! Please, make her come back as Buffy!
Just in case you don't know, there are comic following the end of the tv show, with character design very close to the TV show actor.
Omg what a phenomenal idea! I wonder if she'd be up for it.
She killed that scene with her mom in Buffy absolutely slayed
I didnt mean too make a pun lol
@@jst978 Hahaha was going to comment on that. 🤣
Nah we see what you did there. 😂

Truly one of the more underrated talents in the acting profession, and for all of that, incredibly gracious, humble, and clearly takes the impact of her work on others’ lives seriously. The more I see of her, the more I appreciate her.
To me, one of the most dramatic scenes in Buffy was her having to stab Angel right after he became he became good again. I cried SO hard! Not saying I didn't cry during "the body" episode episode. But the other one is the most memorable one to me
Oh man that scene when Buffy finds her mom dead on the couch hits too hard. I saw this episode literally months after finding my mom in the same way and it both destroyed me and also helped me deal so I have this weird love/hate for that episode because I can't ever watch it without crying but it also for whatever finally helped me process those emotions and start moving forward. Just the accuracy of how she looked on the couch and Buffy's fakeout dream and all of it was way too real and the first time in my life where watching a show really captured a human moment like that without watering it down.
That's really well-said. It's interesting how footage of similar trauma can be something ppl gravitate to. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I can't even imagine.
She’s adorable. She is trying so hard not to over compliment herself and that’s awesome.
I'm a 38 yr old male truck driver and I STILL binge buffy and angel on occasion lol. I just binges both together a few months ago. They were really good. And Sarah was an amazing actress
Just binged angel for the millionth time and now I’ll be going back to binge buddy again. I wish both shows had like 15 seasons though
im 47 and still do it
Almost 40 and Im in this group 😁👍🏼
45 year old male, Buffy is one my absolute favs.
im 40, and i love those shows.
Love SMG! Just did a rewatch of Buffy she kicks ASS as always, and she looks exactly the same!
If exactly the same as in as young as she looked during her Buffy run then you list your mind , But if you mean that she still looks recognizable then of course she does
Sarah Michelle has been my favorite actor since 1999 and I'm so happy she's making new shows, I hope she never stops!
actress
'Simply Irresistible' is my favorite movie role she played.
I remember that it was a fun movie
I’m glad she’s back doing her thing
I love that Sarah gave props to everyone involved with making that scene in the Body. If ever I need to cry, it’s honestly my go to. Especially since my own mom currently has what Joyce died of (her doctors keep it monitored for growth) & my Grandma passed away of it too exactly how Joyce did.
I can’t believe how long her and Freddie have lasted. So cute.
SMG is just pure 90's nostalgia.
A breath of fresh air
20 years later and i still tear up at the scene where joyce died and buffy found her. heartbreaking!
Buffy The Vampire Slayer is the show that introduced me to Sarah Michelle Gellar long ago. That and Cruel Intentions are my Eternal Favorites with her.
Great list, but AMC really needs to be on it. It was her portrayal of Kendall Hart that made me curious about BTVS in the first place, and Buffy ended up being my all-time favorite hour-long show. Love how humble she is and how much credit she gives to the other people she's worked with, including the crews. You ARE iconic Sarah Michelle!! 💙🩵
I agree!!! LOVE Kendall Hart! I was wondering if they they were going to include AMC but they didn’t. They may not have known about this role or maybe they don’t think it’s iconic enough.🤷🏽♂️ although I still say to this day that’s the role that got me interested in her and made her who she is today!
I always say this and I'll say it again. She's such an underrated actress.
"I didn't jump to conclusions. I took a step, and they were there"
She has a wonderful delivery of comedic banter.
I am loving this emergence of SMG!! She is an icon. It's so nice to also see her obviously being so comfortable with herself....there's definitely an injection of personality that she perhaps kept hidden in interviews from the 'hey-day' as she was always known for being the epitome of professionalism. She just seems so much fun....and most of all you can tell she is literally having the time of her life. She's an inspiration....
She is so humble and is always finding a way to lift others up. So refreshing
I fell in love with her on Swan's Crossing back in 1992! She's such an icon.
Yes, I'd love to hear what she thought about that. And what ended up happening!!!!
I love her in possession! Specially the alternate version! ♥️ her acting is great in that movie along with Lee Pace
Cici Cooper from Scream 2 is missing
Sarah Darling?
Lovely
I love the idea of her watching her iconic roles with her kids.
She the one who got me through junior high and high school
"Here's where mom gets brutally murdered by a hook. Here's where mom gets thrown out a window. Here's where mom makes out with Auntie Selma for a minute..."
Seeing Sarah’s emotion to the scene where Joyce passes is so much for me. This scene is so emotional and heartbreaking and important to me. I love Buffy and I love Sarah!!!
"Why isn't Revenge in there. Is that not iconic enough for you??" 😂😂😂😂😂
She’s so down to Earth
The fact that CeCe Cooper wasn’t included is criminal. Such an iconic death for Scream 4.
she was in Scream 2. one of the best if not the best chase scenes in the franchise
Sarah Michelle is absolutely amazing! I’ve loved her since I was a little kid and watched her in what I will always consider to be one of her most iconic roles… Kendal Heart on “All My Children”
Kendall Hart should have definitely made the list.
This woman must be drinking from a private fountain of youth cause she looks AMAZING. I swear she doesn’t age.

I still love her soo much!!! 🤗❤️ She is smart, funny and a nice person. "Her roles" but she spoke about other people. I fell in love with her when I was 10. Now I'm 34 and my heart still jumps every time I see her somewhere ❤️🤗💕
She is soooo good with emotional and crying scenes!!!
Had a huge crush on Sarah Michelle Gellar growing up. Loved her performances especially Buffy the Vampire slayer and Daphne in the live action version of Scooby Doo.
Also loved Sarah's dual roles in Ringer. Still pissed it got canned on a cliffhanger
The moment that I saw Most Iconic Roles, I was saying to myself that Daphne from Scooby Doo HAD to be in this video since that is one of my favorite of her roles along with Buffy.
I love the whole interview. I wished it was longer 😢 love Sarah
So humble about taking up so much of my childhood with her iconic kick butt roles. Buffy alone helped shape me. My favorite quote for years was "The hardest thing to do in this world is live in it. Be brave live!"
The thing she probably doesn't know about her career and about that scene with Joyce and her death. It's that is saved life. I remember being 11 when I saw it, and as a kid I was stuck on that question "what did she died from and could we have saved her". That was the starting point on my litteral eating everything I cloud about stroke and all heart attack, and brain accident and first med. By the age of 21, I had already "saved the life" of 5 people by recognizing the first sign of strokes and attacks at an early stage. Those are subject that people don't take care enough in matter of preventive care and medecine. So that's why I am so glad that show was in too my life from my 7 to my 13 years old. It really gave us so much goodness ! The second thing is that the name character Spike, put on working on the Arn Vacibd and the protein spike while I was studying in public 6qbd epidémiologic and finishing my final thesis on the prediction of a global crisis with new infectious disease caused by covid. I loved this show looking back, it was a blessing as I hope it was for so many.
I seriously love her
How did you not include her role on All My Children?!? So iconic!
The omission kind of ruined the video a little for me. 😂
Watching Sarah watch The Body broke my heart all over again.
Buffy is the most underrated show, watched by only the most amazing people in the world and I love that. If it came out today it would be watched by everyone and spoken about constantly. I wish every actor from the series nothing but love and success, but I'm glad it's only enjoyed by true fans and not just everyone 🙂
She is still so gorgeous. I would say even better looking than her youth!
I fell in love with this actress during Cruel Intentions
SMG is a real icon. The new generation can"t compete.
"The Body" Buffy episode is a work of art snd still weighs heavy on me. Sarah is such a huge part of my youth.
I recognized the Buffy episode right away. Teared up immediately.
She’s beautiful
I am 37 now and i grew up watching BTVS and now i have a deeper voice, and i was insecure for a while cause my voice used to be squeaky small. But see, women's voice actually becomes deeper as we grow older! It's totally normal. Thank you Sarah for being you.
SMG is 6 years older than me. Never crossed my mind!
She was so wonderful in the scene/episode where her Mum dies. This was the best depiction of this experience I have ever seen- having been through it myself.
Why doesn’t she describe herself as iconic? And she also doesn’t describe herself as a scream queen either. When she’s both iconic and a scream queen.
Because she was incredibly humble and kept reminding me she’s just an actor doing a job
The hardest line in "The body", episode of Buffy, comes from Annja who says, "I knew her she was Joyce. She was Buffy's mom and now she's empty. And empty shell." And it just breaks us all when Annja gets that this nice lady who treated her kindly is just gone. She wasn't attacked, she just ended. Gut punch
Yes, Icon. Don't apologize for being confident. Men never do. Absolute class act. Wink!
Why fo you always bring gender into this🙄 youre the problem not men
Sarah Michelle Gellar remains my number one favourite actress of all time. she is amazing.
She’s always been the coolest
McKenna Grace could totally play a young SMG in a biopic
Sarah as Sydney Orion Rutledge on Swans Crossing was it for me. I missed so much school because I skipped just to watch that show. I was so in love with Sydney (Sarah).
Is this something that can still be watched, somewhere?! Thx! 🙏💜
Sarah is QUEEN!!!!!
I so love Sarah. One of my all time crushes!
Anyone else watching this because of trixie Mattel sayings she has crispys r’s? Crispy creamy crackers lol

Of all the things I'm most grateful for in my life, few things have been as impactful as growing up when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was an ongoing show. WWBD may, in some circles, be a meme... but for those of us who have felt at times that "... the hardest thing in this world is to live in it", it's a mantra for persevering when life really just "... sucks beyond the telling of it." SMG, I honestly cannot thank you enough for The Gift that is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You "Saved the World A Lot"... and there have been times when you've even saved me.
so humble and accepting
i wish she had been in more shows in the past 20 years. she was one of my favourite actors growing up :c
The interviewer kinda looks like the potential slayer from season 7 named Rona
Sarah you are BEYOND iconic love, all of these roles I MEAN GIRL WHAT
I love SMG so much. Cici Cooper should have been in there and Do Revenge
I was also waiting for the Cici Cooper scene. Even though it's a small part, that role has really stuck with a lot of us and that's all because SMG is just so iconic.
Its crazy how humble she is! Like shes SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR! Theres no greater teen icon than her!
My mom died right before I turned 21. This episode aired 13 years & one day after she died. I've never been a big crier, but that scene always makes me cry, especially when she says "mommy?" & it still does & I'm almost 56. Curse you Buzzfeed UK.
