Herping? What is it? with NKFherping --- Searching Atlanta for Snakes, Frogs, Turtles, and more!

- Herping is a wonderful way to explore the natural world. There are so many amazing reptiles and amphibians that we get to share this planet with....finding them and learning about them is exciting, fascinating, and addicting. I hope this video helps you understand a little bit about what herping is and why a lot of people do it.
I mention in the video and want to mention again, please be respectful of animals, habitats and people when you are herping. It can be (doesn't have to be) very hands-on, so the potential for causing harm can be high if done without respect or knowledge. Please continue to learn as much as you can. Don't be afraid to ask questions and be patient.
Let me know if you have any questions by adding them in the comment section below.

Did you know what herping was before watching this video? Have you ever been herping? If not, you should give it a try!
That was the best way to promote another video, Noah. 😂😂😂
Ha, okay, I came from NKFherping, that tarp reveal earns a sub. Greetings from Australia!
DodderingOldMan 😂 thank you
Same here, both the redirect and from Aus. Cool stuff.

Damn! I absolutely jammed to that intro! Perfectly edited. 1:26.
Came from Noah's, and that tarp flipping nearly killed me. 😂😂😂. Well done, sir.
Ruchika Dayal thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hope he's not allergic to that poison ivy he was lying beside.
Wow! I can't believe you found a NKFherp in ATLANTA!!!
Kevin Hicks 😂
Great video! That was indeed a rare find! That tarp reveal and the escaping herp(er) earned a sub! I like your attitude about nature and herping! Most people don’t know what it is, but I’m proud of being a herper!!
Cat Bird 😃thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, I was hoping this video could help people who have never heard of herping before!
Came here from NKF. Scared the crap out of me! Cool video Gabe. I subbed. Keep up the good work.
benwan5133 😂 thank you!
That intro! lol Subbed. Good stuff Gabe, this video is full of great info and tips. Noah is good people, glad you were able to hang out with him. Appreciate the mention. It's hard to include everything that encompasses herping, but I wouldn't want any other hobby. Cheers! Look forward to future vids.
Smetlogik thanks! Yeah, herping is tough to describe in its entirety....but we can try. Thanks for watching. I have really enjoyed your content over the years.
@@naturewithgabe Much appreciated. We'll keep redefining as a community, I'm sure.
That one got me!! Amazing
That was so amazing that made my day Noah
Noah is a hero of mine. Glad he led me here. Subscribed as your channel seems really cool as well.
jonzaremba thanks!
IM here from NHKherping, I will be sure to watch more of your videos! And I subbed too!
BaitBusters Fishing thank you! I appreciate it.
This was awesome Gabe! When I am trying to explain herping to my friends, I’m going to send them this video. Smetlogik’s video is a hilarious and inspiring look into the herping community, and this video is the perfect concomitant to show the actual technical side of what herping is and how it’s done. So cool to see a collab with Noah, NKF is a legend! Great work guys!
- Harrison and Evan
The Wildlife Brothers glad you liked it! I appreciate it and I am glad you can use it to show people what herping is...that’s the main reason I made it. Noah and I had a fun day out in the field. Smet’s video does a great job showing that...like you said, I think they work really well together.
Well played! Subscribed ❤🐍🐍❤
Edited to add: this is a great video! Nice job guys.
Amanda Z thanks!

Lmfao well that’s not what I was expecting when Noah shouted out this video. Definitely getting a sub. Always nice to find new north GA herpers, herping videos are a lot cooler when they’re in the area you live.
Jzsus thanks! Yes! Glad to hear you are N Ga!
I'm in N. Ga too, howdy neighbors!
Ok you got me too nice plug
A lot of creative shots in here. Good use of music. Looks like you shoot on Sony. Its great fun to pair up with somebody like Noah and follow them around for a day filming whatever wildlife you can find.
Thanks! I appreciate it. Yes, I use my iPhone, a gopro 9, and a Sony a6500 for most of my filming. This video was a lot of fun to make, it’s always nice to get out with Noah.
@@naturewithgabe Right on. I use a similar setup. Stabilization on the last 2-3 generations of gopros and iPhones has gotten really good! I like color grading and iPhones getting HLG 10-bit color support last year delighted me. I can do some highlight recovery with the extra data that didn't feel possible in the 8-bit world. Also, small gimbals for gopros and phones only (not DSLRs) are relatively cheap (under $150) and are great for getting started with cinematic camera motion. I recently sold my Panasonic GH5 + all my M43 lenses/extras and just last week got a Sony a7siii and 24mm 1.4 lens to start. Kinda wish Gopros would get on 10-bit color/rec2020 (DJI probably does on their action cameras). GoPro pulled Protune support in January of 2021 and I think the only way you get that back is using the GoProLabs firmware (which also adds a bunch of extra features) or "CameraToolsForGopro".
@@technoendo yeah, I haven’t jumped into the world of color grading (yet?). I think you will be pretty happy with Sony, they have really paved the way for mirrorless in some regards.
Yay another herp channel to haunt! Hiya Gabe! 😄

@@naturewithgabe sounds good man! Check out my last herping vid if you get the time ruclips.net/video/3sRfnb4WW9Q/видео.html
Hopefully hands are disinfected and then rinsed with water between handling various individual amphibians so as not to spread Chytrid. Here for tarp, stayed for awesome video!
Jimmy James thank you! And yes! Chytrid is a big issue as well. Good advice.
Bwahahahah u got me

MWAH excellent content!!!
😂👏 thanks for watching!
@@naturewithgabe ur welcome U should check out my herping youtube channel. Hunter's Herporium
What time do you usually go out in the morning? Too have the best chance
Depends on the temperatures. Generally, 9am-11am is when I observe the most snake movement in the morning. Also depends on what you are looking for because some species are more nocturnal.
naturewithgabe I notice that you can see copperheads in the day too but I have never seen one during the day basking
Chris Cook they can be extremely difficult to spot during the day due to their camouflage. Look in areas where a snake may be waiting to ambush a rodent or frog. Along logs, poking out from rocks/logs, etc.
naturewithgabe I thought I was the only one who gets skunked when I’m out looking But Noah it just seems like he spots one after another
Chris Cook everyone gets skunked every now and then....but that makes finding things that much more exciting.
That was not funny I actually went 2 that channel to see what was the underneath the blue tarp I thought it was really going to be a 1 in the lifetime snake but I was wrong LOL or LMFAO. Thanks for the laugh guys I really needed it.
😂👏 thanks for the view and glad we could provide the laugh!
Ummmmm ok was not expecting that
😂

Gotta work on titles bro 😥. Sounds like your just saying a sentence
Shaggy Shawn what do you mean?
naturewithgabe with titles, mostly you just want to get to the topic and/or discussion of the video
No snake under tarp, no sub sorry.
Ur to borde
😂
Yawn...
