The art style of old war in tf2: i fear no man but that thing A soldier wearing pink fox head, deer rack and a skull mask filled with 3 unusual on one head Tf2 art style: it scare me
Fun fact, when they first started development on tf2, they planned on making the graphical style realistic, like the first one. I can't remember what caused them to change their minds, but I'm honestly really glad they did, it holds up well and stands out against a lineup of realistic gritty military shooters of their age. It sort of reminds me of how Yoshi's Island was originally intended to have prerendered graphics like Donkey Kong Country, but Shigeru Myamoto argued with them and ultimately drew all the assets to look like cute crayon drawings. As a result, Yoshi's Island still looks great DECADES later, and Donkey Kong Country... well... it's very much a product of its time.
You don’t know just how happy I was to see this notification XD The thing that attracted me most to TF2 was the art style and the attention to detail to each character. I first noticed this with the meet the team videos and I’ve been hooked ever since. Each character is able to portray a specific personality without even opening their mouth. They are able to communicate who and what they are by their posture, the way they walk, and, of course, their attire. In short, I absolutely adore this game and would like if you made future videos on it. Please and thank you so much!
Tf2 has a special place in my heart-it was a huge influence on me artistically and the early fandom was full of talented artists who motivated me to draw outside my comfort zone. I’d love to see more in depth vids about individual character designs.
It's not really about art, but I love how the writers didn't make some characters good and some others bad, they decided instead to make all of them evil, crual or stupid, and they still managed to make them lovable ! I think that's genius
Can you talk about super paper Mario? I saw that you mentioned it for it’s simplified art style, but I haven’t seen many big videos in the art style. It’s a pretty cool game
I'm so glad you brought up Drew Wolf's alternative merc concepts, because about once a month, me and my friends remember they exist and lament really hard that they never made the cut.
Yes! Go ahead and make steam stuff, or videos, I’d love that. TF2 not only helped get me into art, but also cosplay, and I’m looking for ways to adopt part of its charm into my own style! Hopefully this video helps people give some credit to the timeless style
i had a mini heart attack when i saw this video in my subscription feed, this was a great video it always makes me happy seeing this game get some love.
I've always had second thoughts if I should subscribe to you or not (which I always do). But you've not only made a video about Art AND TF2, you've also played it too! I always see youtubers talking about TF2, but they either haven't played it, or something like 5 hours. So yeah. Subbed.
idk if you have ever heard of the game but Awesomenauts is a game with such incredible character design and art direction but its sadly slept on so hard. seems up your alley
Man does this bring back a wave of good memories. I ended up stumbling across the meet the pyro video years ago as I wanted to get into COD and from that moment I was hooked. I spent hundreds of hours playing, first in quick play, man I miss that, then in casual mode. I got hocked on playing each class in unique ways with the unlocked weapons where I ended up waisting about 40 bucks on the Mann.co store. But above it all, I loved the characters personality in the game and in the comics along with other games. So if you want to play a free game for a bit I’d suggest tf2 for anyone with a decent pc
Okay well, I was expecting you to touch the brilliant sillhouette design of the mercenaries when you mentioned character design. But I guess that topic's already been covered by other people huh.
Tf2 has a good community, the problem is that some edgy 9-12 year olds failed to turn to fortnite, probably becouse they think its pay to play, and minecraft got stale to them, so they came to ruin both the community of Team Fortress 2, and the community of Overwatch
well yeah of course they kill each other, they are mercenaries, it's their job and killing isn't the main point of this game, the scoreboard is proof of that, K/D is completely thrown out the window and you have a points system that rewards you for healing, backstabbing, capping, blocking cap, assisting, etc. basically doing your job as the class you're playing with. you get more points with heavy just standing on the payload than actually going for kills
(b owo)b I'm from south america so I wouldn't really be able to play with anyone from over there. Well I could but someone would lag like crazy and by that point you might as well leave and play something else like hearthstone.
1:59 since when did people say any of this in tf2? did you just played the game a little and tried to make a half assed a assumption about what people think about this game?
5:58 "to people my age, may seem like a desirable, simpler, perhaps more beautiful time." Your age? I thought you were like 24 y/o? I only mention it because it doesn't seem like idealizing the 1960s, like you admit some in your generation do, is not something that people do because they're of that generation, but because its part of their culture. (Being from Massachusetts myself, I know firsthand that New Englanders are often too willing to idealize the past.) This is not a generational phenomenon, it is cultural conservatism. And we should all try to be conscious of it since it's at the heart of the return of fascism that's sweeping Brazil, France, Italy and (today) Portland.
The art style of old war in tf2: i fear no man but that thing
A soldier wearing pink fox head, deer rack and a skull mask filled with 3 unusual on one head
Tf2 art style: it scare me
if i remember correctly, the characters were designed to have unique silhouettes so that recognizing what class a player was would be quick and easy
subjectively designs their own tf2 hats
Yes
I'd love to see that
Yes, please talk about the character designs next!!
It's done plenty of times before, just watch skymin or Germanpeter
Did he ever do the character designs video? Im not finding it
Tbh I love the art style of TF2 and the reason I still play it is because the game is visually appealing to me.
Ive always loved how absurdly huge the characters hands are in this game
this man gets it. he absolutely understands. this makes him more intelligent then half the tf2 playbase.
Lol true
*Uh, I am the smartz too!*

Never played TF2, but still found this super interesting! Always dug the designs for the game!!
Wowzas
*HOW COME NOBODY HAS MENTIONED TF2 CHARATERS HAVE GIANT HAND?!*
I'd gladly listen to ANYTHING you have to say about Team Fortress 2
You don’t know just how happy I was to see this notification XD

9:35 Ahh, another fan of Raxxo's work, I presume?
It's not really about art, but I love how the writers didn't make some characters good and some others bad, they decided instead to make all of them evil, crual or stupid, and they still managed to make them lovable ! I think that's genius
Eyy, TF2. The father of all "Class based FPS" games that cant be beaten.
How was it the father of first person shooters?
Vittu Suomi

Maybe re call it as the father of class shooter
A whole series about TF2 artstyle and design?
YES, please!
I wouldn't say TF2 is known last for its art direction. Almost every game character design videos I've seen mentioned TF2 in one way or another.
Can you talk about super paper Mario? I saw that you mentioned it for it’s simplified art style, but I haven’t seen many big videos in the art style. It’s a pretty cool game

Also who does the editing? I love the overplayed audio and visual gags
Jack and Claire do most of the editing for our videos- Jane also helped with editing on this one tho!
“ Jesus Christ Soldier calm down “
I think a Subjectively Steam group would be fun
i had a mini heart attack when i saw this video in my subscription feed, this was a great video it always makes me happy seeing this game get some love.

But you've not only made a video about Art AND TF2, you've also played it too!

I love this game, and i am sure others would love to see more videos about it !
idk if you have ever heard of the game but Awesomenauts is a game with such incredible character design and art direction but its sadly slept on so hard. seems up your alley

Excellent video, wow!!
I wanna see you draw in eachother’s styles.
The character designs, and literally everything else, was created in Black and white first.
Very enjoyable watch!
Man does this bring back a wave of good memories.

I think tf2 is my a favorite game of all time
This video was very long due. Finally!
Okay well, I was expecting you to touch the brilliant sillhouette design of the mercenaries when you mentioned character design. But I guess that topic's already been covered by other people huh.
Talk about timesplitters!
Tf2 is a great game, it has a less toxic community (unlike fortnite) that actually incorporate team work and have great comics and good gameplay

4:46 Invincible Engineer diCK
Have you guys seen Tim Drake’s (formerly Robin) new suit?? Wondering how you feel about it
Reason for no female mercs in TF2 cuz of the time period the game was based in.
PYRO!!!
God I adore tf2
"Last for it's art direction" lol no you're making a whole video just about it, it is one of tf2's most defining traits
Tf2 has a good community, the problem is that some edgy 9-12 year olds failed to turn to fortnite, probably becouse they think its pay to play, and minecraft got stale to them, so they came to ruin both the community of Team Fortress 2, and the community of Overwatch
wait you're not gonna talk about tf2's 9 year long development and the meme that came with it?
also subjectively really out here calling miscs skins
well yeah of course they kill each other, they are mercenaries, it's their job
and killing isn't the main point of this game, the scoreboard is proof of that, K/D is completely thrown out the window and you have a points system that rewards you for healing, backstabbing, capping, blocking cap, assisting, etc. basically doing your job as the class you're playing with. you get more points with heavy just standing on the payload than actually going for kills
