Just curious if you experienced slow down on the tablet after recent windows update. currently the tablet is really slow, thinking about updating it. Another problem i encountered is that netflix's volume is really low in the app and chrome. And microsoft edge and internet explorer browser both won't show the image in netflix. only sound but much louder than in chrome or the app. Do you know of any way to resolve this? I tried using a bluetooth speaker and the audio lag was really bad too. The words and lips won't sink up. like a 1/2 second delay.
i have the same tablet (same model number), for me on solving the only micro usb that is used not only for charging but for data. i manage to get it to be charge and still used full sized usb. using a micro usb to full usb hub. adapter (that come with power adapter cable, the ones that are design for giving the hub with extra power from an outlet if the usb port isn't providing enough juice). the one im using is Mateck All in one Card reader + 3 port hub. feels cheap but it works. The only advice i would give about this hub (might want to see if this work on the cable you have Lon) if you want to charge and use the full usb port. Is plug in the hub to the tablet first, then the provided power adapter to usb wall wort (recommend 5V-2A or higher on volt with low Amp, found out at least for me, the 1Amp doesn't allow to do both) then whatever usb powered device into it (sometimes (but not always) the hub wont give charging power to the tablet if plugged to wall then tablet). And also get a usb cable extender (female full usb to female full usb) cause its cable it provides for extra power is really short. sorry for the long comment
^This . I bought a refurbished Zoostorm Plex that came with Celeron Dual Core N2807 (Ivy Bridge) , 4GB of Ram and the most important part is the full size USB 3.0 port :) . I used to have a few Windows tablets that have only micro USB port , these tablets wear out pretty fast , couldn't even last a year :/
I feel like these little tablets are more of a supplement to a gaming rig than they are as a dedicated tablet. I think Lon should add a Steam inhome streaming test to his testing for budget systems. Plug it into 1080P tv or monitor.. use steam inhome streaming from a gaming rig host machine from across the house and test gaming to the little tablet or laptops using an Xbox one S controller (Bluetooth enabled).. I feel like that is a more relevant test since that's how I use my Atom based lappy. Use it for projects then plug it into TV and power grab Xbox one S controller and fire up steam. It is a good test in other ways too.. it tests it's consistency with WiFi connection and Bluetooth, it tests it's capabilities to decide different bit rates and complexities of onscreen things before it falls apart visually. You maybe surprised that sometimes laptops and tablets with exact same chipset and CPU that preform fairly similarly in productivity can perform wildly differently in inhome streaming. Plus it's a new twist.
Lon.TV it's still a unique test and relevant I think. And releively speaking very easy to test and do if you have a compatable desktop. All you need is an i5 at least or a Ryzen 5, and any video card from at least last 2 years.. make sure host machine is hardwired that's more important then client machine being hardwired. I asked a few friends in discord about this to make sure I'm not the only one thinking about this. They feel it's very relevant for casual gamers and college students. Few that have budget desktop gaming rigs in their room or office but out in the living room they want to game, they use steam inhome streaming to a tablet or a craptop (as they call the atom powered laptops). And use a wireless controller. Several people who have a setup they liked mentioned they found occasionally there is a tablet or laptop that just doesn't handle steam inhome streaming well and they exchanged it, that could be down to poor WiFi card or antenna placement or down to the custom configured atom chipset (since all the X5 atom has 2 varients a 2watt and a 4 watts.. both behave differently). . Also issue of input processing and lag.. certain configurations handle it alot better than others. Obviously never ideal for competitive gaming but for some GTA 5 in the family room on a docked tablet using a Xbox one S controller over Bluetooth .. seems ideal use case... I don't think many people will want to use a 8 inch tablet or a 2017 netbook (or craptop) for professional use... School and gaming. Personally I have a Intel compute stick ($100 Atom X5 varents) plugged into back of my TV with windows 10 loaded (32bit) and have steam big picture mode auto started that's only thing it does. It streams from my gaming rig upstairs in my office. That's my console replacement.. even use my Xbox one S controller... It impressed my console friends that came over wondering where my gaming rig is... And it actually interested them in looking into making a PC and doing what I do. I'm sure alot of people would be interested in these tests being more or less "officially conducted" I'm sure atleast same number of people would be interested in these test that are interested in your gaming tests done on the machine it's self.
I bought one of these when I was in the hospital because my friends couldn't find my iPad, it was good for watching videos with the nice display it has which surprised me, but I also noticed the slow wifi speeds and found that I had a better experience using my phones hotspot (which had unlimited data) to be better for streaming video than the hospital wifi.
I'm watching this video on the same tablet in the video. I've got a customized lightweight version of windows 11 that comes in at under 9 gb installed. Getting all the drivers installed was a PITA though
I think you should add something about the in-home streaming for tablets--the Steam streaming service does not properly recognize touchscreens, so even if you're streaming a game that has proper touchscreen support, the stream will only ever see a touch as a mouse click.
For most low end WiFi chipsets, you can often get a good performance boost by changing the WiFi to 40MHz mode instead of 20MHz mode that they tend to use by default. 20MHz single stream WiFi while Bluetooth s enabled, will effectively take you down to slightly under 802.11g speeds.
I would have killed everyone in this comment section to get the device 20 years ago... (do not worry, now I would not) Today's kids are so lucky. They can have their own full computer at $80.
Bloatware on a Windows PC usually means that you can just uninstall it with Revo uninstaller or other uninstallers, so depending on how much bloatware there was and how much money is saved I would definitely consider the bloatware option.
Why don't you test some Windows store games and apps with this tablet. These tablets were made for touch screen games which are plentiful in the Windows store.
yeah this was really more of the general laptop test it was run through, people who buy low end windows tablets typically use them as tablets not as productivity or stream gaming machines, the windows store takes care of the basics for a low end tablet. At least Lon should include a win store section showing media playing from win store or a basic game.
Thanks for the link to the combo keyboard/trackpad with Bluetooth; I've only seen dongle editions. My Nuvision 8 (Z8350 version, like your review copy) was stuttering a little, until I did a full restore out of the Settings/Update& Recovery/Recovery menu. Also regained about 5gb of space - the operating system itself shrank down from 13+ gb to 9+ gb after the restore. The restore trick doesn't seem to work as reliably if you opt to retain your files - it has to be a clean restore, but at least it can be done without the Media Creation Tool. I may not remember this correctly, but I think you have to go to a 7th or 8th gen Intel to get full hardware decode for HEVC/h.265. This reddit thread states 8bit HEVC is fine, and 10 bit will only play on Cherry Trail (z8350) at 720p/30fps. www.reddit.com/r/htpc/comments/4lplld/hevc_x265_decoding_with_intel_atom_mini_pc/
Des this thing have a normal boot menu for installing and dual booting things like android x86 based operating systems? If so we have a very decent $79 portable machine here.
There is Phoenix OS which is pretty much the same thing but was very slightly worse than Remix OS when I tried it out. If you want a regular old Android that isn't modified to look and feel like a Windows desktop OS you can also try using the stable Lineage OS builds. In any case, The Remix OS no play store problem seem fixed when i installed it a month ago, right after you install it you now get a 1 click play store install link right on your desktop.
Regardless of device: Connect a keyboard and press F2/F8/F11 before Windows loads to access the boot menu. Failing this, try pressing DEL to access the BIOS setup and change the boot options, but this isn't ideal because you have to remember to return to this screen and revert the changes you made. If all of the above fail, you can also search for 'Advanced Boot Options' from Windows Start. This exits Windows and puts you into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) where you can select a boot device. I wouldn't risk removing Windows from such a device until I understood how to boot it from external storage without WinRE, should you choose to go back!
An excellent review as always. If it had 4 GB RAM, it'd be fabulous. What I think is really great about this machine is that it can support Flash games. To me, that is a huge advantage. Also, what is tablet stand you are using?
Since you mentioned installing Steam games into the SD card, a common question is: "how can I move a Steam game I've already installed on my C drive to another drive?". I found that a freeware tool called Steam Mover is great for shuffling Steam games from drive to drive. It is a standalone app with no installation that automates the work of moving the game and creating symbolic links in Windows, so that Steam transparently looks for the game in the new location.
Lon, you can turn down the resolution of Minecraft via Optifine. Go to Settings - Other - Resolution. Default sets it to the native resolution, but you can turn it down to 1280x720, 800x600, etc.
Per change you didn't try running any Linux distro on it, did you Lon? xD I've been using my Gole1 with Ubuntu, but I'd be willing to pass it on if I can force Ubuntu on a sleek tablet like that, even if not everything works which is par de course for hardware like that. xD
Is this better then the best buy Unbranded tablet that they stop selling? It has a Intel atom Z3735F @133mhz. I just want to know if it preforms any better. If it's at least 5-10% better I'm sold. Appreciate ur time☺
Lon, I appreciate your channel as a consumer of devices. I have a question: I purchased an OBD2 Scanner which has an app that runs on Microsoft OS, which I know longer have. So I'm looking for a low cost device, like a tablet that would be used primarily to run this software when I have a check engine light. Your review of the NUVISION tablet caught my eye; would I be able to download the software for the scanner on to the tablet via the mini usb port? Another concern is: the OS '10' on the tablet is 32 or 64 bits because I;m pretty sure the scanner app is 32 bits or would it be back ward compatible? Thanks
the 10" version got blasted as junk by most people...how can you take decent hardware and screw it up ?...if you use a bluetooth keyboard that may slow the response down due to the fact the same chip that handles wifi also runs the bluetooth
I was wondering, for the kodi test were you reading the files directly from the external hard drive? Because it is a USB 2.0 port so that may be why you had problem with your 4K test file!
Hey... I have found that the drivers that came preinstalled on the device are old and hinder the performance of the graphics. If you install the latest drivers directly from intel, you may actually see a performance increase.
Does some of the performance aspects run a little better after drivers updates from the manufacturer site? I can't trust Windows updates to do the job these days with installing graphics drivers, etc. www.nuvision.com/download-center/
Would you recommend this tablet to be used in a restaurant by waiters for taking orders? I am developing a Windows application specifically for this task, and I need affordable hardware to combine with my software. This one looks so great because it seems to be responsive (based on the reviews), lightweight, and has Windows 10.
Mr. Lon, i think you should try using an external HDMI capture dongle/box when you review these types of things so that we can get a first hand view of the screen
He is very cautious of anything with copyright infringement, which youtube does inforce. He often mentions this and if he is doing screen capture he does not maximize what is playing.
Usb port issue , cant charge while using usb kills it other wise I'd love a high res tablet this one or the $20 more 10" version.. but have to be able to charge and use USB at the same time.. I use tablets as extension devices.. like a controller for a 3d printer ect .. that cant charge and use USB at eh same time is a device killer IMHO..
Thank you for the review. I have been looking for a lower cost solution for use as a control panel for my home automation, home security and surveillance system. At $79.00 it's worth the investment to see if it will work well for that application. Thank you for the review and bringing this to my attention.
RAKRail An alternative may be something similar to this one: m.geekbuying.com/item/Ainol-Mini-PC-II-Windows-8-1-Android-4-4-Dual-Boot--Intel-Z3735F-Quad-Core-1-8G-2G-32G-802-11-b-g-n-LAN-BT4-0-346962.html No touch, but far more ports, including Ethernet.
Thank you for the suggestion. I have one like this already attached to a 27" touch panel in the main living area as the main panel for the system and security / video. The smaller panel will be used in the Master BR and the office area of the home.
I bought the last gen version for $50, sadly it's a bit slower but coming from an RCA Cambio 10 I love this one much better despite loosing the keyboard.
Could this tablet be functional with a video editing application (Filmora, Kinemaster, etc.)? Is there enough Storage/Memory? Tablet portability is important and so is Windows-based because the video I recorded is not compatible with Android. Thank you for feedback.
I really don't know why people like mkbhd, unvox therapy or Austin Evans get all the tech attention. They're kinda like tech fuckboys. Keep up the good work Lon.
how does it handle using a external monitor? I remember when you reviewed the Gole mini pc/tablet and you had said that it did not have enough power, thanks
Hello line I love you reuse and I bought my Acer computer after seeing your review I've had it 6 months and it's working beautifully anyway I looked through your videos and I can't find a review for the brand new 2017 Fire HD 8 from Amazon the one with Alexa on it can you please review this product or if you already have provided link thank you I look forward to your response
The 2017 is the same as the 2016 - talked about this a few weeks ago on the Wrapup. The only difference is that it lacks a gyroscope that the 2016 edition had.
Feel a bit lead astray on this one Lon. Picked this up after this review. After the Creators update to Windows only 500MB is left. It cant stream 1080 youtube without constant buffering issues. Netflix downloads time out because of the weak wifi. Netflix streaming just errors out. This tablet is unusable in 2017.
+DarkHalmut sorry but that was not my experience with it. You should be able to remove the prior updates to reclaim space. Also remember that chrome is not good for browsing on low end devices, use edge as I frequently remind people to do.
Hi Lon. I am using Edge. Last night I think I got to the bottom of a lot of the issues. By default it runs Windows10 in Tablet Mode. By turning that off and using it with a standard desktop, I was able to get Netflix to playback and download movies (which is what I bought it for). I thought Tablet mode was just some UI changes, but apparently there's more going on there.
32GB storage? That's the killer. :( I've owned too many 32GB Windows 10 devices to know that after all the updates, there will be approx. 7 GB free. With only 2GB RAM that means that there will be additional space taken up for swap. What a shame because it otherwise looks like a terrific device for the price.
Tom Perconti Fully agree. Assuming another 32 GB would add 15-20 USD to the price while making the tablet much more useful it's really a no-brainer. But I suspect it has something to do with licencing for Windows, that's at least what I have heard.
Mine reports 14.3 gb free, after installing Chrome (large, about 400mb), Speccy, CCleaner, MPC-HC. That's all I need; I write on Google Docs. 1. Gotta clean up a lot of old files after a Windows update (like to "Creators Edition." Settings => System => Storage. 2. Uninstall game freebies from MSFT and Store apps. Settings => Apps, then sort by size and uninstall as desired. 3. Worst case, clean install, seems to clean up mysterious bloats in System & Reserve files (core os modules). Go to Settings => Update & recovery => Recovery => More recovery options, which takes you to a clean install from the internal recovery partition, using the Windows Defender controls which pop up/under. I've also occasionally had to use the Media Creation Tool installed to USB to do a total reformat and install to reclaim stubborn missing hard space. Win10 64bit takes up a lot more space, relatively, on a 32gb machine. Yes, I would much prefer to pay a few $$ extra for 64gb, it makes the rigid discipline necessary to run a 32g machine unnecessary. But, as Hakan suggests, I think it's not the barebones hardware costs that are the problem, it's licensing parameters designed to segment the market place. Same reason netbooks were crippled with 600p screens.
N64 should work perfectly and Dreamcast I'm not sure it works well on $130 like GPD XD which is the lowest new price possible. Without them selling at a loss.
Okay never mind it works it was glitched out my rotation wasn’t working and usb flash drives so I restarted it it works fine my rotation works and usb flash drives works
Tried Linux out here: ruclips.net/video/DdQztPuBqmk/видео.html -- more info in the comments of that video for a few other distros.
In stock where?

It comes with word, excel and powerpoint already?
i love how windows tablets are now cheaper than a windows licence
Shawn Pepin dude your prof pic is creepy af
Shawn Pepin is it because OEM have special price for making Windows devices from Microsoft?
Shawn Pepin lol so true.
but what we don't love are their poor quality , short life and likelihood to get faulty

They should make a high end version of this.

As for analog audio connectors, it would be prudent to note whether it is a headphone only or capable of headset (headphone & microphone).
i just got one, but im not sure if i should keep it. the reviews are really bad. I just wanted to use it for PDF viewing, for my school textbooks.
Even though you install a program to your sd card, it will still load a good chunk of the program in your C Drive built in
I recommend an SD card with the new A1 rating, aimed at adoptable storage for Android. Sandisk is the only one I could find so far.

I'm thinking the same thing, my Lenovo Stick even came with a warning to use a dongle 2.4ghz wireless keyboard/mouse instead of a BT setup.

This is very helpful! Thank you.

It would have been nice to have some kind of benchmark for the SD card slot. The cost of cards varies widely with speed. Good review otherwise.

their should be drivers to throttle the GPU when the battery gets low so if you install the video drivers from Intel your get better performance
Hi, thanks for the review. Do you know if this could be used as an external monitor for a camera via hdmi?
I'm a little embarrassed that i forgot all about that stuff, but if i made something i'd be happy to see people showcasing it...
The Microsoft Store says it's a 32GB SSD so if we can get the back off I wonder if it's upgradable?
I would like to know the same thing .
RAKRail An alternative may be something similar to this one: m.geekbuying.com/item/Ainol-Mini-PC-II-Windows-8-1-Android-4-4-Dual-Boot--Intel-Z3735F-Quad-Core-1-8G-2G-32G-802-11-b-g-n-LAN-BT4-0-346962.html
No touch, but far more ports, including Ethernet.
Thank you for the suggestion. I have one like this already attached to a 27" touch panel in the main living area as the main panel for the system and security / video. The smaller panel will be used in the Master BR and the office area of the home.
Good video! I am going to buy one. Thanks.
I bought the last gen version for $50, sadly it's a bit slower but coming from an RCA Cambio 10 I love this one much better despite loosing the keyboard.
hi lon. you should review lenovo tab 4 8 and 10 inch. they both are cheap(130 bucks) and runs latest operating system.
Do you recall the storage available to user before any programs are installed?
Wonder if you can install Openelec from a thumb drive and use it only as a media device?
May I ask where you got that micro-usb Y adapter? I've been looking to get one of those
Could this tablet be functional with a video editing application (Filmora, Kinemaster, etc.)? Is there enough Storage/Memory?
Tablet portability is important and so is Windows-based because the video I recorded is not compatible with Android.
Thank you for feedback.
Do they give you recovery disks? My concern with cheap tablets is the restore part.
You may be able to get a better wifi driver.
I'm buying this now 💯
@lon.tv when there's a microsd card installed, does it show up in the bios?
Possible boot from SDHC!?
Can this run the full chrome web browser?
can you try to intall linux (ubuntu or such) on it
See here: ruclips.net/video/DdQztPuBqmk/видео.html
*_THANKS_*
Can you put third party applications on this i know on windows 10 s you cant but maybe on 10 home?
This tablet looks pretty good
I only want a tablet to edit pdfs for D&D. Is it worth getting this or the insignia 11" best buy 2 in 1?
Keep up the great work
I really don't know why people like mkbhd, unvox therapy or Austin Evans get all the tech attention. They're kinda like tech fuckboys. Keep up the good work Lon.
I can't speak for Unbox or Austin Evans as I've never met them, but I have met and chatted with MKBHD. Decent guy.
how does it handle using a external monitor? I remember when you reviewed the Gole mini pc/tablet and you had said that it did not have enough power, thanks
+allen welk no problem at all. Totally forgot to drop in some footage I shot of it doing that, will cover it on the wrapup and extras channel soon.
So how do you reload Windows if you get a virus or corrupt files? Currently unavailable on the website listed.
Is it possible to turn off the screen without turning off the tablet
HOLA, LA IMAGEN ISO PARA INSTALAR DESDE CERO EL SISTEMA?. YO LA TENGO PERO NO LA TERMINA DE INSTALAR. ESPERO PUEDA AYUDARME, MUCHAS GRACIAS.
Can you review fusion5 slim 4 GB windows 10 from amazon?
@3:19....will this miracast? or any other form of cast?
Hello line I love you reuse and I bought my Acer computer after seeing your review I've had it 6 months and it's working beautifully anyway I looked through your videos and I can't find a review for the brand new 2017 Fire HD 8 from Amazon the one with Alexa on it can you please review this product or if you already have provided link thank you I look forward to your response
The 2017 is the same as the 2016 - talked about this a few weeks ago on the Wrapup. The only difference is that it lacks a gyroscope that the 2016 edition had.
Can you install full .exe software other than just windows store programs?
Baylen Houston I just got one and yes it is a full win 10 pc so it will run .exe.
ik b25 thanks I got one too and it worked for what I needed it for
Hi, is this tablet good enough to stream Xbox One games? Assuming the xbone is direct wired and the tablet remains wireless on network.
Will these hook up to a printer and work?
Interesting I might explore that a bit.
any reviews of thee Hinge 13-3"
What mouse & keyboard ur using and how?
Lon can you run the HDHomerun Client software on it ?
Can this be plugged in indefinitely to use as a pc?
hi Lon, will you review the new (2017) Amazon Fire Hd 8?
See here! ruclips.net/video/bCuwSulqRp8/видео.htmlm37s
Looks like Microsoft has doubled the prices on both the 8" and 10"....nuts.
SuperBigDog2U on Amazon its still $79
Jojo, did you happen to see any more that cost $79?
They need to make these things at least 64gb because with 32 there's issue updating due to lack of dpace
Did they discontinue this tablet?
What kind of power supply is used with this?
Speed on the processor?
why net too slow in it
I want the screen background
This is emulate N64 perfectly and what about Dreamcast?
N64 should work perfectly and Dreamcast I'm not sure it works well on $130 like GPD XD which is the lowest new price possible. Without them selling at a loss.
Con las ultimas actualizaciones de win 10 el wifi deja de funcionar
Hey Lon
I suppose you don't use all tech that you buy
Do you happen to sell these itens?
He occasionally puts the reviewed tech on his store page for purchase - lon.tv/store
Thanks man!
Do u think fallout 4 will be playable on this tablet??

Is this a good tablet for watching youtube?
louie Looop yes, I have one , and it plays 1440p videos and 1080p 60 frames perfectly, but like he said do it on Microsoft edge
Covered it in the video :)
