Great tutorial! This is the first hat I’ve ever made! It fits my baby well and is big enough for her to grow into it some as well. I added a Pom-pom to the top!
Thank you for this easy tutorial. I made a hat for my baby but now I'm wondering what should I do differently to make this an adult size so I can match with her.
OMG thank you sooo so so much for the explanation of the growth rounds! I’ve been following videos and can make a hat but I didn’t understand what I was doing outside of increasing the size. Thank you again 🙌🏻
Thankyou soo much i am watching your video and making a beanine hat with you itself so that i avoid mistakes n i was litreally fedup nothing was gowing right almost i tried 7times n now finally at the 8th 'm able to do it by watching this video thank you soo much❤
I took two days to make it (probably cause I have a busy life) but I’m making it for my Niece and I love it it is a yarn eater through i made it with two different colored yarns ❤️❤️❤️❤️I love it so much thanks you so much 100/10 love it and that it’s sooo East and fun doubles are my favorite thanks so much I love you so much
Asma Nureini I’m so glad you like it! I have almost no time to crochet these days, so projects like hats and fingerless gloves are perfect for me, too!
Excellent directions! Thank you so much! What should be the diameter and height on this hat? Also, so you have any tutorials for a baby sweater that matches this hat?
Hi Ashley! Sorry for the delayed response. The diameter for this hat should be 14-16 inches. I don’t currently have a matching sweater pattern, but will put that on my list of ideas! Thanks!
Video was exactly what I needed to see so thank you! However the audio was far too quiet, I had to hold it to my ear two-thirds of the time. Captions would be awesome.
Sorry about the audio. I've gotten a new microphone, so I am hoping to update some of my older videos at some point. I just added the next size, and I think the audio is much better now.
You will need to add extra rows, you may also need more stitches per row. If I use lighter yarn, I frequently add a stitch in the first round or use the pattern for the next size up.
Jenny Frenia it is at the bottom of the pattern for each size of double crochet beanies. This should be the link to the printable pattern. kbcrochet.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/worsted-weight-basic-beanie-3-6-month.pdf
Hi, I like your video. if I do it the same way as you and use the same hook my stitch holes becomes big, but if I use a smaller hook then my hat becomes too small. I want to use size 4/ 4.5mm hooks. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong 😭 Please help!
Syeda Shibly Ahmed I totally understand about wanting smaller holes! I might have to do some experimenting and post some additional patterns using smaller hooks. I think to achieve the right size with a hook that much smaller, you will probably need to start with 12 or 13 in your first round, then have 24 or 26 in the next, 36 or 39 in the third, and 48 or 52 in the 4th. You would still follow the same technique, your numbers would just be increased. Let me know if that helps!
BearBear Sprinkles for this tutorial, I used Red Heart Super Saver. I also use this pattern for Vanna's Choice and Loops and Threads Impeccable. They are some of the "thicker" of the worsted weights. If I use a thinner worsted like Simply Soft, I typically hook down and use one or two more stitches in my initial round.
Staci, sorry that I didn’t see your question until now. When you finish the last round you finish off by attaching to the first stitch in the round with a slip stitch. You then cut the yarn and pull your yarn through the last loop and pull it tight. Is that what you mean? Thanks!
For an average adult head, you would use the same technique but start with 14 stitches in your magic circle. Then your second round would be 28 stitches, your third would be 42, and your fourth and each row after would be 56. You would do about 14 rows.
For a slightly larger than average adult head, you would start with 15 stitches in your first round and follow the same technique giving you 30'stitches in your next round, 45 in the next, and 60 in your 4 th round and each round after that. You would do about 15 or 16 rounds.
Sorry for the delay! I had a baby last week, so I haven't been on RUclips much. The finished measurements should be 14-16 inches in diameter with a hat height of 6-6.5 inches.
Sharon Johnson For this size, the hat should be 6-6.5 inches in height. For me that’s typically 11 rows. For some thinner yarns, I might add a 12th row

Thank you for the excellent tutorial I have crocheted a lovely hat and mittens for my best friends grandson and they look lovely 😊

So very very helpful . Thank you !!
do i follow 1 double crochet and then 2 double crochet in 5th line??
I am following this patter for a baby beanie but am using a lighter weight yarn - it's thinner. Should I compensate with extra rows?
You will need to add extra rows, you may also need more stitches per row. If I use lighter yarn, I frequently add a stitch in the first round or use the pattern for the next size up.
Well explained thankyou
Where can I find the print out for this pattern? I did look on your website but did not see it :)

How do you do an decrease in the end ?
hildy thiessen In the last round? Is it turning out too big?

What type of worsted weight are you using?

how much do you changes someone for a Cardigan and booties and abeanie hat
What if the needle size is not the same
Do you have a 3-6 month pattern with a moss stitch design?
Judy Linsky I don’t yet. That’s on my list, though! I’m working on more hat patterns for this fall and winter right now.
Thank you looking forward to more.
How many rows is it all together xx
I do 11 for most yarns, but for a thinner worsted weight I occasionally add a 12th row.
How do we end the hat?
Staci, sorry that I didn’t see your question until now. When you finish the last round you finish off by attaching to the first stitch in the round with a slip stitch. You then cut the yarn and pull your yarn through the last loop and pull it tight. Is that what you mean? Thanks!

What should the measurements be after you're done?
