This crochet baby hat is quick and easy to make. It has a great texture which is achieved by working the Piqué Stitch, which is a special type of cluster stitch.
The hat is offered in three different sizes: newborn, 0 - 3 months and 3 - 6 months. The instructions are the same for all three sizes - all you need to do is change the hook size:
Newborn: Use a G (4mm) hook
0 - 3 months: Use a Size 7 (4.5mm) hook
3 - 6 months: Use a H (5mm) hook
The finished measurements for the hat are:
Newborn: W - 6” (15cm) x L - 5” (13cm)
0 - 3 months: W - 6.5 (16cm) x L - 5.5” (14cm)
3 - 6 months: W - 7” (17.5cm) x L - 6” (15cm)
This is an easy crochet tutorial and I’ll show you what to do step by step. You will need to be familiar with the following stitches:
ch(s) - chain(s)
dc - double crochet
sc - single crochet
sk - skip
sl st - slip stitch
SPcl - special cluster (this is shown step by step in the video)
st(s) - stitch(es)

Round 1
Tank u Happy new year God bless u
Ok😅
U did amazing. Work. I’m a big fan of ur work.
This is the third project I have completed from your tutorials and I am completely blind, so you can say that your videos are so clearly explained that you can quite literally follow them with your eyes closed.
My daughter in law is expecting my first grandbaby and she asked me to make booties and a hat. I'm so honored but I said "uhhhhh let me check youtube..." because I have no idea how to make anything except a simple v-stitch blanket. Your videos have made this possible. Thank you so much!
Awe that's great, Lisa! And you're very welcome! 😘 Enjoy the rest of your week and many congratulations to you on the news of your new grandbaby... so exciting for you and all the family! 💝
Loved all her videos she is very clear Maisie and Ruth you are the best ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I made the jacket and a hat. It was easy to follow. Thank you so much
Im pregnant with my second child and Im making baby booties and a beanie for him like I did with my first son
Vert very nice one and your video are so beautiful the music in the background.
Just one question after I begin the buddies I should turn each row ro the other side?
Hi, just wanted to share with others my experience with your videos. I’m 72 years old and retired about one year ago. I Have 4 grown up kids, they have their kid to worry about now. You gave me a life back to me with Crochet. I used to crochet when I was very Young. Your videos really are very simple and easy to follow. Your explanation and voice are calm and accurate. You really make an effort to share your work. Least but not last your crochet work is beautifully done. Thank you so much for this. You are the
Best ❤❤ 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me your lovely feedback, Dyane- you are very kind and I really appreciate it! 🥰 Enjoy the rest of your week... I hope you have something fun / interesting on your hook at the moment! 💝
Your tutorials have been a huge help to me - thank you. I made four different baby booties before I discovered your ‘version’. You just make everything so much simpler! I’m sure some of these fancy stitches look lovely (when done properly), but when you’re just beginning to crochet you really do just want simple stitches that make something just as beautiful.
I’ve only been crocheting for a month but thanks to your easy to follow (&understand!) tutorials, I’ve already made baby bootees, prem baby booties, two baby blankets & this hat.
My friend is 28 weeks pregnant with a very special baby. She will be delivered early, a week before Christmas, so I’m making these things for her.
I honestly think that if I hadn’t found you….I would have give up!! ❤️
Wow, you've certainly been very busy! 👏 I'm sure your friend will absolutely love all of these items and treasure them for many years to come ❤️ Thanks so much for your lovely feedback, I really am so pleased that you're enjoying my tutorials and are finding them easy to follow 🥰
Thank you so much for taking things slowly and precisely. Never in 9 decades have I managed to follow a crochet tutorial so easily! I’ll be back for more lessons. ❤
This is one of the best tutorials I've ever seen. You explain everything so calm and your camera angle is so good. I haven't crocheted much before but am confident I can do it with this tutorial. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me your lovely feedback, Kaylee - I really appreciate it! 🥰 Enjoy the rest of your weekend 💝
Hi .
First of all thank you for video so nice the music in the background .thank for the time that you make this video.
I have one question every time that a make the cluster round 8 to 14 I need to change the side and turn ?
First time crocheting and this is what it chose, halfway down and it looks great I am very excited thank you for the very good clear tutorial.
Thank you for this great tutorial, l finished it in no time, it was easy and it looks beautiful. I made one for my unborn grandson, God's willing, coming into this world in September 2022. 😊
Awe you're very welcome, Rosa! 😘 I'm so pleased that you enjoyed this tutorial. Have a great day 💝
Congratulations Rosa on your coming grandson. Many blessings. 🙏
I just finished making this baby hat and the baby matching cardigan. I have made all of your baby clothes that you have put on your site so far I love them thank you please keep making more tutorials I look forward to them
I've not made a hat before. There are some young mums who desperately need some for their newborns and I just made my first thanks to you. Cheers hun❤❤
Well done on completing your first hat, Deirdre! 👏 I'm really pleased that you managed to follow along with the tutorial and make it! Keep up the good work, I'm sure that the wee hats will be greatly appreciated 💝
I just finished my first baby beanie. I love your tutorials. I'm super new to crochet. Not even familiar with the stitches but you make it so easy.
I'm so pleased to hear that, Jessica! Keep up the good work 🥰👏👏
I'm expecting my first child, and I just started this one, I already made other things from your tutorial for my niece
I've made 2 of these this week and would NEVER had done so without your video tutorial! Thank you so much.
I made my first ever baby hat following this tutorial. It was so easy to follow! Thank you very much.
I adapted the colours and made my daughter a Christmas pudding hat (white for the first bit and then brown for the special stitch) thank you so much for a wonderful pattern.
I just made this hat with a 4.5 mm hook but it came out quite large🤷🏻♀️ Will try again using a much smaller hook. Thank you👍🏻
I just finished your baby bonnet. I just love how easy it is to follow your instructions. Thank you so much
That's great, Maria! 👏 And you're so welcome, I'm really pleased that you enjoyed the tutorial 🥰
You are an excellent instructor and even beginners like me can follow your tutorials with ease. Thank you so much.
You're welcome! I'm pleased to know that you find the tutorials easy to follow. Thank you for your feedback 💖
Thank you for this tutorial. My goddaughter is having a baby and I wanted to make something for her. Your calm, patient voice with easy-to-follow instructions helped me achieve my goal! I can't wait to try another one of your videos.
Thank you so much for your nice comment 😊I am very happy to know I managed to help you. I am sure they will love your present 🥰
First and foremost, best tutorial ever! thanks so much for your explanations, you are so crystal clear! I hadn't done any crochet in 10 years and managed to follow with ease :-)
Little comment for those who use wool: my first trial, using a hook 4 and yarn 3.5 turned out way too big (more like 6-9 months!), maybe I wasn't working tight enough? I repeated with a slightly thinner yarn (2.5-3.5), using a hook 3.5 and got a newborn size hat :)
Thank you! I am using wool and had the same outcome. I wondered what I had done wrong. It will be lovely on my toddler daughter once it’s done though
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, Miriam! 🥰 And thanks for sharing your tip with everyone else 💝 Have a great weekend!
Thank you for the tip. I tend to crochet loosely, both naturally and because I think it can produce a softer, loftier item. I'm afraid mine will turn out too big for a newborn!
I watched this video first to see if I would be able to make this little hat. I did make it, it looks lovely. Thank you so much for your time. Very clear instructions.
Awe I'm so pleased to hear that! 🥰 Glad to know that you found the instructions easy to follow 💞
I’ve been waiting on this one! I was so excited to see it uploaded this morning. Your videos and crocheting are amazing!😍😍😍
Thank you so much! 🥰 Enjoy working up your little hat! 💗
Very Very appreciate, i never did this before ,thank you so much
Finally, a pattern I can follow. Thank you for being so detailed and descriptive with your instructions. Yay!!
Thank You 🙏🏿, I loved 🥰 all your tutorials !!
Love ❤️ how you explained in detail : from what yarn 🧶 & crochet hooks size you need . And you show each stitch, slowly so it’s very easy to learn . Specially for beginners . We have to new borns in our family, boy 👦 & girl 👧 now working on a sweater . And next will crochet 🧶 the beautiful 😍 teddy bear 🧸, granny square blanket . Please keep posting new tutorials , I’m your biggest student fan !!!
🥰🧶🙏🏿❤️🤗👶👼
You're so welcome! 🥰 I'm glad you're enjoying my tutorials! Enjoy working up the teddy bear blanket, I'm sure your two little babies will love it! 💞
Thanks Ruth and Maisie … gorgeous little hat ❤
My very first baby hat and I’m thrilled with it! Thanks for an easy step by step tutorial!
I haven't made a hat in over a year but this looks amazing. So going to give this one a go for my little 10 week old girl
Thank you for the pattern! I made the matching sweater and just finished the hat. Neither turned out to be newborn size-probably more like age 3 months. I adjusted the hat somewhat by omitting the last 3 rows of the special bobble stitch as it looked as though it might go down over the baby’s face if I made it any longer. It’s a cute set that I’m sure will make my niece (and her baby, due next month) happy. Thanks again.
Bless you for this tutorial. I am a very visual learner and have struggled for decades to learn how to crochet. Thanks to you, I will be using this to learn how to make very small baby hats and donate them to hospitals for people to have something for their babies who passed on. If their lost child has nothing else, I want them to have a handmade item so their family has something for them to wear instead of just a hospital blanket.
Thank you so much for your great comment 😍 You are a very nice person. I am very happy to help you and I am sure that they will be very grateful. I wish you a wonderful week 😊
@@MaisieandRuthI can only do it with the help of generous people like you, who teach me! You have a wonderful week as well 😊
You are wonderful with your instructions, so clear and not rushed, and your demonstration as to where to insert the needle and the visual instruction is absolutely wonderful and easy to follow and understand. I'm a beginner, and this is a great tutorial, actually the best. I was about to give up. So glad I found you. Thank you!
Yes, so many on YT don't show clearly where to insert the hook nor clearly show how to end a row or round and begin another. If I make a mistake it's often at the end/beginning of rows or rounds. These videos are great!
Thank you for another fantastically clear video. I have now completed the hat as well as the cardigan and bootees! Thank you again 🙏😊
Aww wonderful! And you're very welcome! 🥰
beautiful pattern easy to do Explains. Highly recommend this sight and as you. the lady explains every row to you. fantastic
Chapeau!
Wow with all the sizes.beautiful
I love following you, I am a intermittent crocheter and out of all of the people tried learning from thank you for the great tutorials 🥰
Aww thank you, Stacey! I'm so pleased that you're enjoying my tutorials! 🥰❤️

Ich danke dir sehr! Das freut mich sehr zu hören 🥰
I just love your tutorials. You explain so well and clearly show us what you doing. I have made the booties and my first baby cardigan by following your tutorials. I will now make the hat as a set. Thank you so much for all your help 🙏.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me your lovely feedback, Vanessa - I really appreciate it! 🥰 Congratulations on making your first baby cardigan! 👏Have a great week ahead 💝
I wanted to do something special for my sister in law since she is pregnant with her seccond child. I love how straight forward and clear your tutorial is. As someone who has never crocheted in their life, I kept thinking, "I could do that!!"
I'm so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the tutorial! 🥰 I'm sure that your sister in law will be very pleased with this little hat if you get around to making it. Good luck! 💝
Amanda your tutorials are truly so easy to follow and I have no difficulty whatsoever with them. I began by making the crochet cardigan and now am making this lovely little hat! Thank you so much for your help and hope you have a wonderful New Year full of lovely things to make for the tiny tots!
I'm so happy to hear that you've enjoyed working up the little cardigan and matching hat! 🥰 A very Happy New Year to you too - there will be more baby stuff for you to enjoy in the coming weeks! 💝
I have just started crochet again and found your tutorial so easy to follow. Thank you so much ☺️
I'm so pleased to hear that! And you're very welcome 🥰
I used this pattern to make a hat for my Great-Nephew due to arrive next month. I appreciate how you take your time, making it super easy to follow. I just ended up making another one, cause it's So So Cute! Thank You So Much for sharing this video. I Absolutely Love It! ❤💙❤
Aww that's great, Meta! 👏 I'm so pleased that you enjoyed this tutorial. And many congratulations on the news of your soon to be Great Nephew! 👏💝

You are a GREAT TEACHER. The BEST.🥰
I just found and made a pair of booties and thought this morning I should see if I could find an easy pattern to make a matching hat. I didn’t even realize until you showed the hat with the booties that it was your booties I just finished! I made my daughter an infinity cowl and used the same yarn for the booties and now I’ll make a matching hat! This is my first granddaughter due in December! Thank you so much!!! You go at a nice pace to learn how to do this!!! ❤️❤️❤️
You're very welcome, Krys! I'm so pleased that you found these tutorials and are enjoying crocheting along with me! 🥰 It's great when you find a stitch that you love - I'm sure the infinity scarf etc looks beautiful 👏 Congratulations to you on your soon-to-be granddaughter... you'll be busy crocheting away and making cute little items for her no doubt! Wishing you and your family a great weekend 💝
Just finished the baby hat. Great tutorial as always, easy to follow! I'm now waiting for the pompon Part :D Thank you soo much!
I'm so pleased to hear that! 😀 The pom pom videos will be coming soon! 💕

You are our Queen Amanda ❤
Hi Heike, awe you're so sweet - thank you so much! 🥰 Have a great week, I hope you have something fun on your hook at the moment! 💞
Hi Amanda 🤗 yes, I started a sweater for a one year old. I'm just not sure how big I s make the neck, how much from neck to the armholes, body and arm lengths.
Do you have measurements of the sizes?
I'd appreciate it very much ❤️❤️❤️
Hmm made this with dk yarn and 4mm hook will definitely have to go down in hook size, way too big 😆 love your tutorials and I could listen to your voice all day. So relaxing, no stress at all. Thank you
Yes, I've had some feedback from others that they had to go down a hook size to make it work for them 👍Thank you for your feedback, it's really great to hear that! 😃❤️
I made the matching cardigan. Just completed the hat and now onto the booties.
Great instructions.thank you.
Thank you very much for your comment 💖 I am very glad to know and I hope you enjoy doing the booties 🥰 Best of luck!
Excellent video. Clear instructions which is much appreciated. Thank you so much for sharing this. It is a lovely hat.
Thank you for this. You make it look so easy and your videos are so clear and your tone of voice very relaxing. I look forward to trying my first attempt!
You're so very welcome! I'm really pleased that you're enjoying the tutorial! 🥰❤️
Merci pour vos explications très claires. Je n'ai rencontré aucune difficulté à faire 2 articles. J'ai beaucoup de plaisir à travailler avec vous surtout que je suis une débutante. Bravo Madame. Vous êtes un bon professeur. Explications et vidéo...tout est réussi. Merci
Excellent tutorial every step of the way. Your camera angle, your voice, your written pattern, your time stamps are so precise and easy to follow. I am definitely looking at your other patterns too. You take the time to explain and that's an exceptional gift....love it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me your lovely feedback - I really appreciate it! 🥰 Happy crocheting and have a great week ahead! 💝
Yes! but I have one more thing to add. It is so refreshing to see a video made by a crocheter who has natural fingernails, not all the silly-looking [and distracting] colors of nail polish which some otherwise good presenters seem to prefer for some unknown reason. Thank you, that's just one more asset.
I agree on everything you said!@@ruthhenderson5413
Thank you so much Amanda, this is very simple and nice,I am enjoying your crochet ❤
Hi. I am finding your teaching really easy. I'm using a 3.5 hook because I'm making premature baby ones for my twin grand daughters ready for when they come into the world. Am loving these hats thank you 😊

Cute hat, and I like hats that begin at the crown. It would be helpful if you could show the hat on a baby so we can tell how the shape looks when actually worn. You're an excellent teacher, btw; very easy to follow. Thanks!
Worth the wait! Love it.
Thank you so much! 🥰
I have just finished this little hat. I enjoyed making it. Can’t work out why I have horizontal ridges in mine. It still looks nice though. I’ll have make another to try to work it out 🙃
