I've owned 4 Harleys and a Suzuki Drifter. Due to health issues, I got a Burgman 400 in 2008. I absolutely loved it! It changed my whole outlook on super scooters. As you found in your test ride, they just work for anything you want to do. After a couple of years, I test rode a 650 Burgman, but the extra weight (and cost) was just not worth it to me. The 400 was plenty fast and much easier to push around in parking lots. I ended up trading it for a 600 Honda Silverwing, which is pretty much the same thing. It is a little faster and smother, but not much. As my health got better, I did get another harley, but sold it because i never rode it. I always chose the super scooter over the harley, unless I just wanted to look cool. I've been thinking about going back to the 400 Burgman since they quit producing the Silvewing and mine is getting a little old (2012). I found that changing the windshield for a taller one or adding a wind deflector lip can get rid of the wind buffeting for taller riders. Those long running boards/fairings are the best thing since slice bread. You can move your feet around and stretch you knees and butt on long rides. In the summer, the motor does not roast your nuts. And when it rains, you are dry until you stop! Great review! Although, you did giggle a lot! But thats ok, I still do on mine,

My Burgman 400 is my touring bike. Two years ago I rode it to Yukon in northern Canada and last summer south to California. It has storage and room for travel bags and the comfort for all day travel. I do ride secondary highways mainly. On a divided highway I will be in the slow lane with the trucks. The plus side of Burgman gearing is that I can maintain my normal highway cruising speed up any mountain grade; even packed for travel. One thing that wasn't mentioned; my Burgman has by far the best braking of any bike I've owned. The front brakes are really impressive. I’m 6’ 1” and sit straight up in the seat on my Honda PCX. I put the tallest National Cycle windshield on it and was getting a lot of wind noise around my helmet at 45+ MPH. A $30 Amazon clip on wind deflector added to the top makes the ride nearly silent all the way to top speed.

Surprisingly, my girlfriend's Honda PCX150 felt better to ride! A Burgie 400 just might hit the sweet spot, with bigger wheels and more motor.

I was just in a bike shop and I sat on this for fun, and holy crap was I shocked how comfy it is. I bet it must be soooo comfortable and easy to ride! The only other bike that was as comfy was a v-twin cruiser but you have to shift your own gears and it had no wind protection for your body and legs like the scooter does. Only you look like a pizza delivery dude on the scooter and not a bad ass
Good review but I prefer to avoid highways. Press your feet against the front upslope part of the floorboards and your back against the backrest to get a more locked in feeling with your legs. I have the Burgman 200, plenty of bike for short freeway rides @70mph but great on twisty back roads.
Good work Hedge, nice to see someone doing reviews of other things than just HDs That maschine is one of the better looking Scooters and certainly the one of my choice should I ever buy one.
Hello, I am from Malaysia, just bought my burgman 400 couple of weeks.. yes indeed... it was fun ride a suzuki with 399CC DOHC.. the power to ovetake is there.. Previously had a mini scooter SYM 200..
I used to have the 650 burgman but it was getting too heavy and it was costing more on gas I had trouble pushing it so I decided to get the 400,022 model it was the best thing I ever did and I love it a lot it's cheaper to work on and it doesn't go through tires like the 650 does I'm always putting brakes on my 6550 but on my 400 I got 2,200 me on it and my tire is still look good and I like the 400 a lot better I saw also have a RUclips channel my name is scooter Steve I show all the scooters I ever owned the best one is the 400 burgman the 219 and the 221 and 223 model I was looking at the real old ones I didn't like the old ones when they first came out pick the one I got right now I love it like I said before you can change the windshield it'd be much quieter when you're on the freeway cuz I have a stereo on mine I had to put a windshield on it cuz I couldn't hear my music but the original windshield is on it but I show that on my channel how to put a stereo on there I also put a security alarm system on there you don't have to hook it up to the battery it uses a phone charger to charge the alarm you have a safe drive
I've had alot of bikes prior. I now have the 650 but the 400 was great. I had put a Malossi kevlar belt on it and JCosta variator. It really had some serious get up and go after the JCosta variator at about 25% more acceleration from stop. It was a fantastic little bike that did everything well.
The biggest advantages of scooters: all that beautiful storage space under the seat and the far cheaper mechanic labor (at least in Los Angeles, where I live. They charge $120-plus/hr at every motorcycle shop.). Cheaper insurance, too. It all adds up. And as far as having something "between your legs," think about that for a second. If you hit a rock going 50 mph and start to fall over, your legs won't be trapped between a 450-700 lb hunk of steel. Plus, on a scooter, you have the front fairing to protect you. Scooters, though, need bigger wheels, generally speaking. And they're goofy looking. But damn, who wants to throw on a backpack every time you jump on your Ninja or R6 because you have zero storage space? It's all about your needs, I guess. :)
I enjoy the video and thank you for doing the ride. I currently own a 2015 Honda PCX150 scooter/bike and it works good for me. I am a disabled (R.A. Rheumatoid Arthritis) retired veteran and these scooters/bikes work for me. I want the Burgman 400 for the ALRSC (American Legion Riders of South Carolina) because the rules state we have to have 350cc min. to be in the riders. My Honda PCX150 works very good and has mods to achieve 75mph GPS. I rode it a few weeks back to a meet and greet so with the 5+ hour ride and breaks I never had any issues. My disability with weight limits and auto control (no clutch for my crippled hands) with light weight makes it a dream and fun. Storage is another thing. Plenty of storage under seat to carry some things with you and my Honda PCX now has a 30l top box. Be safe have fun and enjoy.
Huh did they change the brake layout in the later model Burgmans? I have an '06, and the left side is linked front/rear brake, right side is just the front.
I bought a 2005 Burgman 400 type S with low miles. Not logged very many miles due to winter, but it has been easy to get used to it. I am big and and I can get around on it very well. It just does anything well, and is quite reliable, and easily maintained. The thing I like the most about this video is how he giggled like a schoolgirl the whole ride. They are enjoyable to ride. I have no Harley aspirations, I just want to be in the wind, to be able to twist the throttle and watch the miles disappear. And that is what the thing does best.
Hey, I am coming back from a huge break to ride motorcycles. Before I bought my V 7iii mid 2018, bought a Piaggio Medley 150, 2 years earlier. You guys have straight lanes and open roads so no problem using the car instead. Here in Europe, especially the southern part, where weather is good, Scooters are urban weapons :) Have you tried to lift the seat up? It has over 40 lt of space, enough to put helmet in, and your rain gear. There are also 2 compartments under the handlebars for small stuff! It is great to go for groceries and small shopping, like clothes and shoes etc. And while raining its offering superior protection to reach the office dry. I kept it the Medley and I aint have plans of selling it!
I rode a bigger scooter most of my life It was weird when I got on a motorcycle I still kept my knee off the tank And on a scooter, you use your hips to counter-steer a lot and less handlebar
I thought about getting one of these for riding even when the weather is horrible because they seem to protect the rider better than most mid size motorcycles unless they have a great fairing.
@Kevin Frenyea I dont think hes an idiot. He just likes regular bikes. I have had several Burgman scooters. I love them. Best for the money 2 wheel ride made. To each his own though. You catch a lot hell riding scooters but thats ok too.
Found a great deal on a 2012 400cc Burgman. Had less than 5k on it. Replaced stock windshield with a CIVI. Love it. I claim bought if for my wife who has a 49cc with no M.C. license. So sorry. If going on long trip or to event would ride my Road King. But around town or short highway. Trip aprox. 500 miles Would rather ride Burgman. Can't beleive how smooth it rides and will cruise at 70 m.p.h. all day long. Also has CIVI tour pack. Plenty of room for a 1 up trip. Storage under seat large. Keeping this toy. 50 m.p.g. + so will be around for awhile. Have no complaints. Just not Sturgis worthy unless everyone had one. 😃✌

If someone were to give you a 2018 Burgman 400. Would you keep it, or trade it in on an actual motorcycle? Also, may I ask what you weight. I'm 220, and I heard you speaking on the suspension not handling you weight.
Your message is a bit old now but just fyi, I run about 195-200 and the 400 moves me around just fine. It's surprisingly quick for a heavy bike with a 400. It's really fun to ride.
Thanks Rabid Hedgehog, I've been riding a Honda Forza 300 for almost five years, longing to get on a "real" bike why am I watching this and considering another scooter??
I spent a day on one, its not as racy in the California mountains but otherwise its a very viable ride. For now the used one I bought keeps me riding while I heal and wait for my bike's insurance outcome.
Was wondering how it rode for you on the highway 65 or 70 mph. I test rode one a year go and felt like the wind was pushing me around a lot. Just wanted to get your thoughts or anyone else's thoughts. Thank you for the review it was good.
Kevin Frenyea Thank you very much for the info. I really want to get a Burgman 400 but was worried about the turbulence on the highway but the bigger windscreen makes sense. Thanks.
To me I was not being pushed around a whole lot. I will say due to the smaller wheels it followed the rain groves a bit more than some bikes, but other than that it was stable.
Rabid Hedgehog Thanks for the info it also helps with my decision. With Kevin and your comments I feel much more at ease to buy one. Now I just need to find one to buy and setup with a bigger windscreen if it does not already have one. 😁 I like your channel and your comments.
It's a scooter dude. It isn't weird. We get it about the brake and shift. Repeating it over and over isn't helping anyone with deciding to get one or not. We scooter riders want to know the size, weight, get up and go power, braking and features. Thumbs down on your review👎
Agree totally. He was making fun of it all the time and calling the scooter "this thing" all the time. He obviously doesn't know that the front brake is on the right hand lever.Overall a very poor and ignorant review.
I’m sorry BuT I’m pretty sure the right break is the FRONT and the left is the REAR , in the first 3 minutes you have referred to them being the other way away! Muppet
I ride a 650 07 burger. It’s a great bike. Different but the same as a cycle. I love love love mine as a practical mildly sporty daily commuter. Oh and the weather protection is phenomenal. I did the one foot duck walk looking for the clutch dance first ride too.
Yup just a bit awkward at first. I have actually rode an older Vespa manual where you clutch and twist the grip all on the same hand.... I have to say since that is so awkward to do it is much better to have the auto.
I don’t know if it applies as much to the 400, but on the 650 getting away from the stock battlax tires really increased my giggle per turn ratio. Same hand throttle and clutch sounds aggressively italian.
Great review! Could you do a review of the 650 Suzuki Burgman? I'd love to hear your comparison comments. I think you'll be surprised at the difference... Some have said that the 650 is a lean, mean, highway machine...! Some have called it the "Mother of all scooters"...!
From what I've heard and know about the 650 Bergman it's a totally different beast than its younger sibling the 400. However , you got the 650s nickname wrong, it's not called the mother of all scooters. It's nickname is the Cadillac of Scooters because everyone agrees it's like sitting in a recliner on wheels. Hence it earned the name because of his level of comfort! I totally agree with you about everything you said regarding the 650. Cheers, and enjoy

IVE OWNED MANY MOTORCYCLES..BUT THIS SCOOTER BURGMAN 400 IS THE BOMB, A FANTASTIC RIDE..MANY GUYS THAT OWN BIKE BIKES PREFER TO RIDE THIS THING ALL DAY LONG...BANG FOR BUCK ITS A BRILLIANT INVESTMENT AND CAN CARRY WAYYYYYYYYY MORE STUFF THAN A MOTORCYCLE CAN.....TOURING NO PROBLEM OVER HERE IN ENGLAND A GUY RODE FROM ENGLAND AND DONE MORE THAN 3,500 MILES IN 18 DAYS ALL OVER EUROPE ON ONE OF THESE SUZUKI BURGMAN 400,s
Thinking of a silverwing or one of these
I was just in a bike shop and I sat on this for fun, and holy crap was I shocked how comfy it is. I bet it must be soooo comfortable and easy to ride! The only other bike that was as comfy was a v-twin cruiser but you have to shift your own gears and it had no wind protection for your body and legs like the scooter does. Only you look like a pizza delivery dude on the scooter and not a bad ass
Why do you need to be a bad ass to be confutable who gives a f..k if I like a pizza delivery what a pile of craps 🤮
Good review but I prefer to avoid highways. Press your feet against the front upslope part of the floorboards and your back against the backrest to get a more locked in feeling with your legs. I have the Burgman 200, plenty of bike for short freeway rides @70mph but great on twisty back roads.
Nice bike and easier to service than the 650. Better gas mileage also.
You're right the 400 gets better gas mileage than the 650 650 I only get 30 mi to a gallon the 400 I get 70 mi to a gallon is the 2022 model
They really rides smoothly to. Be a 400cc pretty awesome indeed
Yeah the burgman is an awesome scooter
Like others have noted… right side lever is the front brake… left lever is the rear wheel :-)
I gave up on this review as soon as he said that, what a dork!
Good work Hedge, nice to see someone doing reviews of other things than just HDs
That maschine is one of the better looking Scooters and certainly the one of my choice should I ever buy one.
I do need to try the 650 someday.
Hello, I am from Malaysia, just bought my burgman 400 couple of weeks.. yes indeed... it was fun ride a suzuki with 399CC DOHC.. the power to ovetake is there.. Previously had a mini scooter SYM 200..
Awesome, glad that you enjoy it. Ride safe out there!
In my top 5 all time favourite bikes. I've owned 32.
Wow you must be very rich wow
Its an awesome bike. Very capable of highway speeds and long distance cruising. Super comfortable. Super reliable.
I've had alot of bikes prior. I now have the 650 but the 400 was great. I had put a Malossi kevlar belt on it and JCosta variator. It really had some serious get up and go after the JCosta variator at about 25% more acceleration from stop. It was a fantastic little bike that did everything well.
😅 Hi this is scooter Steve I have the 400 burgman 2022 I love it
There is a lot of buffeting because there is no space between the windshield and fairing to equalize the pressures in the cockpit
Scooters are surprisingly good, great review..
Thank you. I am seeking the 650 next, I know they are done now, but there will be enough used out there.
I have a 2019 Susuki Burgman 400.....I love it!
The power of comfort!! ❤️
my Burgman 400 gets around 56-60 mpg and can do 65 MPH easily just need to find some kind of highway pegs
It is a SCOOTER. I have one and it is fantastic!
YOu are following 2 seconds behind the rider in front!
Its like a car on two wheels. nice . That thing needs a drink holder seriously comfortable. Imagine that in a 650cc
Got it wrong sorry. It's the way it feels under braking where I missed it. First time Scootin
My 2020 left is rear brake only; right is front brake only. :)
I rode a bigger scooter most of my life
It was weird when I got on a motorcycle
I still kept my knee off the tank
And on a scooter, you use your hips to counter-steer a lot and less handlebar
I thought about getting one of these for riding even when the weather is horrible because they seem to protect the rider better than most mid size motorcycles unless they have a great fairing.
Might be a fun way to get around in rain.
Brian Marty 你说的啥,兄弟 我完全看不懂啊!哈哈哈
🎉❤
You should try the 650, it’s even better.
Yeah I am looking for a used to ride since they are no sold here in the US.
Rabid Hedgehog planning some work on my Harley next year so may buy a used one to keep me mobile .
Has anyone figured out the top speed on one? I can't find anything other than the claimed top by suzuki but i never trust claimed tops on anything
I have a k5 400S Red. Iv went 85 at a steady pace and it rode well. I did change the clutch to a Dr Pulley with 21g sliders
I took my new 400 Bergman 2022 on the freeway 87 mi an hour I got but I'm not going to drive that fast anymore I was just testing it I live in California I only go 63 mph when I'm driving it
Love your review, thanks.
I'm pretty sure the right is front brake and left is back.
I prefer scooter instead of ''normal'' bikes...Here in Italy there are mostly scooters
Great video, and comments, i have watched this quite a few times, i have a Kawasaki j300 and a Brand new 2020 Suzuki Burgman 400 on order....This has nothing to do with starting out on Motorcycles, i have owned over 30 PLUS Sport and sport tourers From Thundercat 600 to Bandit 600, Blackbird CBR 100XX and Suzuki M90 1500 Cruisers...I have gone to Maxi scooters for the reason of Practicality, ease of use in London and Comfy long distance Touring....At least i dont get the wrist ache from City stop start stop start traffic anymore, plus i can carry food and drink and extra warm clothing and rain gear, when i stop anywhere i put everything under the seat and it looks look i came by car (Ha ha ha ) MAXI SCOOTERS RULE EVEN IF YOU HAVE ONE AS A SECOND BIKE........Thanks for Video Rabid.... Keith from England....
Now one second, no way to not hit on problem.
There's adjustable preload settings for the rear suspension, so you could likely get it set better to your liking based on your weight.
Thanks Rabid Hedgehog, I've been riding a Honda Forza 300 for almost five years, longing to get on a "real" bike why am I watching this and considering another scooter??
Nothing wrong with the Scoots. Heck of a lot more useful if you're in the city. More storage and everything.
If you think the 400 is great, you should try our 650
his giggling is so annoying
Do you recall the cost of the bike when you test road it??
$8099.00
Get Kymco ak550 instead fir $1k more
@@Ukrainianificationfk no, there ain't no dealer support here in the states. it's a nightmare
How much is a Burgman. Thinking about getting one
am from Ghana (Africa) I need some can u help with one
I was hoping for an actual review. Sorry, but too much giggling/laughing for me.
Do you need to get a motorcycle license in order to ride one or just have a valid driver's license
You'll need your endorsement for motorcycles to operate.
Ty im thinking of getting one this weekend and was wondering
Oh you never ride automatic before?
Nope this was a first.
This was very good! :-)
How much do you weigh, I am 6 ft too
At this time around 230
I’m sorry BuT I’m pretty sure the right break is the FRONT and the left is the REAR , in the first 3 minutes you have referred to them being the other way away! Muppet
No no left brake rear. Right brake front
Please stop saying “weird”
Great review! Could you do a review of the 650 Suzuki Burgman? I'd love to hear your comparison comments. I think you'll be surprised at the difference... Some have said that the 650 is a lean, mean, highway machine...! Some have called it the "Mother of all scooters"...!
They've been discontinued but I'm looking. One is bound to show up.
@@RabidHedgehog Talk to BMW perhaps they will let you try theirs....
By the way how much do you weigh?
232 lbs
Hello bro from puertorico I have a Bergman 400 custom 3 wheel
Seems you were riding towards Norman? I used to live in okc. Neat scooter
In a way it was towards Norman as we were on I240 heading back west toward 35 that day.
How many top speed???
Around 85MPH
Ok we get it.." Its so weird"
Would have been a better video if you would have stopped laughing
The constant laugh in your voice is very distracting to the point of being annoying. One who has a constant laugh in their voice denotes a nervous person. Please check yourself and lose the inappropriate laughter.
Haha it’s weird hahha it’s weird haha it’s just weird.
Well it happens
Scootercycle lol
Enough with the giggles man.
Have you ridden a maxi scooter? You will giggle when you ride one. They're awesome.
The giggs made this review awesome
weird weird weird, weird weird weird. weird weird weird. it's weird. it's not a motorcycle. it's weird. hahahaha.
Yeah that.
He he he he he
That scooter's really strange to you huh..? You probably feel the same way about women..Joke..
Had an 08 400cc and a. 600 honda silverwing. Both bike would squeal when taking off. Real embarrassing and real Annoying
Hi, nice review.
Please work on your narration. Weeee is not helpful. Have fun yes but constant giggle is not helpful.
