I've been riding my 2020 Suzuki Burgman 400 for 2 years now and I'm really enjoying her. I've got just over 1200 miles on mine and it's great in the city, on the twisties or on the highway. Just a great all around bike
I put 5000 miles on a 2019 Burgman 400 and that thing ran better on the interstate than I thought it would. The mpg's got better the longer you were out there, and the bike was heavy enough to stick to the road. Top speed was unknown but I had more speed available even at 85 mph. I saw 79 mpg at one point but I like backroads on a bike. 65mpg was the most common average. Great bike.
Yes the Burgman 400 is very good doing super highway speeds. Like yourself, I avoid expressways. I enjoy secondary roads and seldom exceed 100 km/hr (62 mph). I have 2019 Burgman 400 that I bought new, and its great fun to ride. Scooters are the best bikes to ride when you are 76 like me!
Man, that crack in the middle of the highway lane would drive me crazy, too. If nothing else, now you know if you absolutely have to get on a highway it's no problem with your 400. Great video!
I spent a couple of years commuting into Washington DC, round I495 and into the city on I395, and I think the number one technique you can use to stay safe is to leave at least a two second gap to the vehicle in front - and actually count it outload. It saved me when the pickup in front drove over an actual ladder that was lying in the road. You've got to give yourself the time to react to truck tires disintegrating, stuff in the road, the vehicle in front rear-ending another vehicle, and all the other nonsense. 👍
Hey man, good video. One thing I noticed, I would strongly recommend positioning yourself in other vehicles' side mirrors so that you are not in their blind spot. Safe riding..

I have a 2005. It'll do almost 95mph, but it doesn't like it much. Very smooth at ~65mph with plenty of passing power if you got the cohones for it. Crosswinds, passing big trucks, and crap roads are no fun either. But for a little 400cc scoot with almost zero maintenance? It's a great bike for easy scenic day trips, even two up, and perfect for year round daily commutes at sane speeds. I'll take my scoot in a downpour over almost anything else on two wheels =)
I have a 2006 Suzuki Burgman 400S and it can cruise 75 mph all day. You have to play with the F/R tire pressure and the rear shock adjustment for more stability and comfort.
A nice bike, a wonderfully clear wide road and great weather. It's just a matter of getting used to the high speed traffic and watching all around you. Since speeds are higher traffic can "sneak up" into your blind spots easily and catch you unawares. It's all about awareness. They run 70-75mph on the freeways. Some companies limit the speeds on their trucks, but for the most part they run FAST. In Texas we get a lot of big trucks from Mexico and you can almost see the parts falling off as they tear down the highway.
Thank you so much for your video on the Bergman. I have been thinking about getting one. I live in Houston, so it's good to get a perspective from a fellow Houstonian.
Nice ride thinking on getting one spring 2025, rode my old Honda forza twice this year from McGregor to Katy Tx to visit my son & family with No problems
I just bought a Burgman 400. Tomorrow it is getting on the highway. One of the roads is a 55mph paved country road, and the return trip is a 65mph 4-lane. I'm looking for better performance over my Honda Rebel 300.
Thank you for this video. We ride a HD Tri-Glide due to my wife's many health issues, but it rides like a dump truck and is extremely hard to steer. I am wanting to go back to two wheels, but I want a smooth ride so I'm looking at scooters. I was looking hard at Kymco X-Roads 300i but the videos saiy it struggles and had a lot of vibrations at speeds of 60mph and above. So I decided to look at something a little larger. I don't want a real large heavy scooter like a 650, so I've now decided on a 400cc. We have ridden somewhere between 300,000 and 400,000 by motorcycle (mostly large ones) and there are still certain roads I hate to ride. We live in Ohio and ride a lot on devided highways where the speed limit is 70 mph. We usually run 65mph to be more relxed. But the outer belt around Columbus (270) makes me nervous. The outer belt around Cincinnati(275) makes me REAL nervous, The West Viginia Turnpke Rt77) makes me nervous, But Rt 81 in Virginia I will NEVER ride again. It is a white knuckle highway. I do a regular 300 kilometre round trip to Sydney on my Burgman 200. No problem with keeping up with traffic. Drops back a bit on large hills and sits on about 8000rpm at a steady 110kph (60 mph) top speed about 130kph. Like my little scooter

I have a 2007 Burgman AN400 and recently changed out the cvt to a Dr.Pully high performance and switched from 18 gram sliders to 21 gram sliders...all i can say is wow....what a difference. Higher speed with considerably lower rpms....and smooth as silk.
I ride a Vespa 300 on the highways quite a bit around DC. I don't love it because at those speeds I can't accelerate my way out of trouble. And bad road surfaces - lots of those in my area - do make me nervous. But the looks I get from people in cars can be fun. The upside to highway riding to keep in mind is that the traffic is generally more predictable. The downside is that if something goes wrong at those speeds, well...
Just an FYI, I have a 2022 Burgman 400. I always ride with my Garmin Zumo XT. I find the the Burgman speedometer is close to 5 mph optimistic. You think you are going close to 70 mph but in reality you're doing 65 mph. Also please be sure to test ride the Can Am before you commit. I owned a Ryker for a while and the steering is touchy. I upgraded the suspension. It made it a little better but you still had to be on your toes. Be careful if you sneeze!
@@scootermike.thecharterpilot Yes, I have owned a bunch of GPS's but I love the Zumo the best. It is a bit pricey but if anything happened to it I would buy another one tomorrow. I rarely use it to get me someplace but I like the realtime info I can get from it while riding and I can pull the GPX file from it afterwards and create a map of where I have been. I also glance at it when there is a sideroad to see where it may go and then I check it out. I still own two motorcycles. One is a Honda CRF300L Rally. I can go anywhere on that and the Zumo is always strapped on to go exploring. I mentioned that I had a Ryker earlier. Well, I sold that and bought a Bergman. It's a blast, a very enjoyable and relaxing ride. Every MC owner should own at least one scooter. I bought a second Zumo mount so I can move it to the Honda or the Berg.
when you where in the suburbs, i said to myself.. that looks like texas.. then further in the video you said houston i was like dang.. i still remember the streets of houston when i lived there.. they never changed
Since Suzuki diched 650 and decide to sell only 400 at least they should make this 400 to produce 35 hp/37-38 Nm and make it reach 96-97 mph (155 km/h) and to pick up to 75-80 mph (120-130 km/h) with ease. Also they could put 14 inch at back and put better brakes and dash considering the price (almost same like BMW C400GT with much better spec brakes, performance and technology). But... they did not so Yamaha, Honda, Kymco take the lead over Suzuki past few years or so (completely missed opportunity to continue to led the pack as pioneers in this category). What they're thinking?
If you think the braking on the Burgman is inferior, you haven't ridden one. There's specs and then there's performance. I've been riding bikes for more than 50 years and the braking with the 400 is spectacular. It's the bike's best feature.
@@davidphillips7255 bike’s best is suspension and reliability if you ask me. But brakes and outdated style especially at the rear are certainly not. Though brakes are not bad but could be much better for sure. Purchasing this bike in 2023/2024 is similar to purchasing v Strom 650 instead of v Strom 800 compared to other rivals like Honda x adv350 for example.
@@surdzo We agree on the reliability; but my Burgman has crude front suspension that isn't great but the front brakes and ABS are really impressive. They are not two finger brakes though. If you grab a big handful in an emergency it is shocking how fast that bike will stop. Personally I would not trade Burgman twin front disc stopping power for Honda's single front disc on the ADV350.
Crazy how people can be mean. I’m a biker since 25 years and I live in Suburbs Houston and I wonder if I’m not going to trade my V -Storm 650 for the Bergman 400 or a Kymko 550. The plus for the Suzuki is reliability, the plus for the Kymko is twin cylinder 550 but not sure about reliability.
Kymcos are pretty reliable. I have a 250 as a beater from 2003. It's being hammered daily. Even at work I had a semi crash into it and scrape it a meter on the tarmac. Gets up and goes without a beat. I went down on it a few times, no issues. I have quite a respect for the little guy now. Just keep up the oil changes and it just keeps going like a tank.
Your caution is good. But don’t let it replace confidence and experience. A two wheeler is a much safer option on the highway than a trike. Your emergency escape options on trikes are no more than in a car yet you are as exposed as a motorcycle. Also cornering for rider and more so for a pillion on a trike places uncomfortable lateral (sideways) loads. This is not an issue on two wheels
Nothing like going on the highway with a scooter. Not have to worry about hitting gears and other things. Scooters are a lot of fun, especially in the 650 would have been better for the highway. A little bit more heavier. You would have felt a whole lot safer on it. But they do not make them anymore. Would love to know why that was a good machine. You can get app to a 110 miles an hour on that 650 bird man.
I got a 2022 Honda PCX 150 two months ago. Never rode a motorcycle before then. Just last week, I took it on the highway -up to 65 MPH. Loads of fun, but the winds from those big semi trucks tend to toss me around a bit. Super fun, though. I wish they sold the Honda Forza 750 in America, though. That looks so sweet.
I had a 2009 i put a kandn air filter. Witch helps i once had it up to almost 90 and I felt there was more it was rated at 160klom i put a extra piece on the windschild called laminalshield. And a 130 ds.horn 45leader trunk lalso liked the sound of the moter then the 650cc.
It's Brave of you to take to highways at those speed considering that there's no coming back 100% or not at all if something goes wrong . I'm a witness of fatalities seen to many motorbike accidents though out my life and had one myself . I still ride at sixty years old but not at highway speeds, I go nice and slow just for my errand you know and even that worry me sometimes , I know it's hard not to let yourself go with flow and if the bike can go faster well you can feel that you've mastered the machine and road it feels easy you sometimes will know.
i did a run with mine on i 10 near tucson az the max 100 mph ? but she did it for about 300 mls but it was windy in parts and i pass a truck and got wind guts i got a bit of woble for a minute but i did pass the truck to clear him and got in front of him on slow lane but here in southwest the winds are serius . now i am moving back to east coast below south carolina near the atlantic ocean better rides over there if is not raining or cold key west fla here i come .
I got me a 2022 silver burgman 400 new put over 650 mls in 2 month? . Did the 1st oil change full synthetic and serv . Now I am riding the interstate it goes 100 mph no problem 1 Rider . I sold my mp3 500 because of the 3 wheels problems . Don't buy 3 wheels . Trust me . Big maintenance Head aches . Not safe for me at least. I Ride so AZ . Get your wife canam touring spider I took test Ride on touring spider .not for me I like 2 wheels ..put videos of all your family's riding. .lam gonna do Galveston bikes festival soon.
Thanks Jose for the advice.... Your experience with the MP3 is interesting... I was interested in that bike when I was shopping for the Burgman... Yea I love 2 wheels as well. I hope to go to the next Galveston as well
Thanks for the great video. I was surprised to see a truck keeping up with you at 80mph. I take it that there are no speed restrictions on them in the US. I would like to get a Burgman 400 - there is a dealer a mile away, so it's very tempting. Would you recommend the Burgman for a 200 mile highway journey?
Yea... they have limits... but this town is very aggressive on the highway... I travel all around the US... this is the craziest of them all! Yes, I absolutely recommend the 400... it has enough speed and I find it to be a very enjoyable and comfortable ride! I really do think its the best scooter... The 650 gives a bit more power... but you have the increase fuel cost. ive not done a 200 mile trip... but im sure it will do fine
You can, no prob. Took my 2006 400 from East Texas to San Diego. Up 287 thru DFW, I-40 W. Down just E of Phoenix, thru Payson to Gila Bend, then W on I-8 1650 miles / 4 days. Yes there are restrictions, but as a shit load of Americans think they are the center of the universe and therefore they can do whatever they want when driving..
Was the start of the video around Katy, Houston? I'm from the UK and have never been to the US but I enjoy watching Quasimotard videos and it looked like the same area he often rides. Nice video and a great scooter.
Im sure it would do fine i have friends who own them ride on the highway often with no problems. I myself own a 2016 Kymco People GTi300 & it does freeway speeds easily. .
I would be all over the forza 750 even a 350 ... I told the dealer that if honda didn't bring the forza line back to the US, my next bike would probably be a yamaha or suzuki
Most States yes you do need a motorcycle license. I say most States because as you know States have different Laws. I'm Maryland and Virginia resident and a went and got my Motorcycle M endorsement.
As it was doing 7000rpm at 75mph it's probably the later 28hp model. I have had two of the 33hp models and I don't recall the engine turning over that fast at 75.
My dad had a 07 and had major problems with the fuel injection. I took it on the highway a couple times an the last time I road it it death wobbled on me at 75mph . That bike was a pos
Instead of a Can-Am, which is large, expensive, and a bit overwhelming, I suggest buying your wife a cute 50cc scooter with a low seat height, like a Vino, Metropolitan, or Vespa if you want to look Audrey Hepburn cool . She will likely find a little scooter more smiles per mile. You can then add a small top case with backrest for your child. I don't know how old your child is but I gently suggest that you get him or her a small dirt bike and let them loose to crash over and over in the soft dirt. They'll spend hours of fun around your neighborhood and come back dirty and happy. Over time, if you wife or child want to get more "serious" then move up in size, but I think you'll find the smallest bikes are clearly the most fun for casual riders (and secretly for many experienced riders, but they won't say it out loud). For the one or two times per year your wife grudgingly agrees to a long freeway ride, give her your Burgman and you borrow or rent something interesting, or just spend an extra 30 minutes on your small scooters taking the long way to that favorite restaurant on the other side of town.
You are not doing 85mph,get a satnav fitted and working on your bike then ride it again showing 85mph then look at your satnav,it will be showing a slower speed.I have ridden the scooter on a motorway and it was struggling to do 70mph in windy conditions,I doubt your scooter will do 80mph because of the wind.My scooter was a Suzuki Burgman 400.I did have a suzuki Burgman 650 and that had trouble at fast speeds.
Wow finally someone says the correct max speed, I am only getting 80mph max with little wind on real GPS, but with a much taller windshield and I weigh 220 lbs on my 2023 400
@@Bachu.California Only calibrated speedos show the correct speed.I am a UK male person and was an ex Heavy goods truck driver, trucks have calibrated speedos,so if you were traveling at 56mph on the speedo the satnve too was showing 56mph.So have a satnav or have a mobile phone with gps that shows the speed then test it on a on a motorway. You will find the satnav true speed but the scooter will show a faster speed because it's not calibrated. So the cops would never pull you over if you are riding the correct speed limit on you scooter speedo.Have a go then get back to me.The scooter is fast without windy conditions.
Then you need to stay home or stop riding. A 400cc Burman can hit 90mph 75 is nothing for these scooters to cruise at and they are liquid cooled engines. Your comment indicates that you are not a rider.
I would strongly urge all bike riders to install seat belt on your bikes for the safety of yourself and passenger on your back to tie both down from "flying away" when falling down in an accident or breakdown. The seat belt could be the one removed from junked cars, a seat belt from airplane is even better.
Thanks for the comment....but bikes are very different than cars..... you would not want to be strapped to a bike if you fall with a bike its best to separate from the vehicle... not be attached to it... imagine... hitting the ground then being dragged by the bike and then stuck underneath it.
@@eddiebanks6704 At least the rider won't fly off and get run over by fast cars of next lane. I have seen so many fly-off riders got run over by cars of next lane.
@@roamereasy9737 So you wanna be dragged with the bike as it tumbles slinging you around and under it as it does so? With hot exhaust and engine in that mix? You must have never ridden a bike to think this is some kind of a 'good idea'. Think things all the way through. And you want to use something from some salvage yard? In the USA that isn't even legal. Seatbelts can become compromised. And... these were developed for a specific fitment. Tons of research went into their design and application. But you want to just cobble together some kind of hack job for a purpose these things were never designed for. No seat back... no seat belt. Buzzass.
My, my such manly comments about riding a motorcycle on the freeway. You must be the type of riders that create havoc on the roads with your “manly” recklessness!

I was just looking at the Zumo... I'm thinking of getting one.... Yea... I should have done the test ride
It looked so smooth...
Kymco makes engines for BMW scooters. If their quality satisfies BMW it's good enough for me
@@volhv1973 my concern is not the engine but everything around but Korean make good products so I ´m really not sure.
@@FrancoisTX1974 Kymco is not Korean, it's Taiwanese. Taiwan is a capital of scooters. They are reliable and adequate price for quality
@@volhv1973 sorry. You are right. Taiwan.
Great vid, thanx dude.
I'm sold!; Thanks for the video and your bravery to show us it handle highway the mbike
I don't mind when a car pulls out if i have reasonable time, but u just pray its not the idiot who pulled out an actually panics an stops!!
Awesome review thanks for sharing from Australia
My pleasure
I wish the "highways ' in the uk were as clear as this. Give the M25 a go at 8am, and that will bring your anxiety out.
Just wait till summer on Uk highways, it's nice and clear to have a blast.
wow!
I live in Houston, and I agree the highway is not friendly for 2 wheelers. I like riding my PCX on the streets and I get to learn new areas/routes.
Love the PCX! I really miss mine.
I'm in Houston, and I hit the Interstate all the time with no issues thankfully. 59,610,45, BELTWAY 8, 290 all of them🛵
@@bigboytoyzrc9258 with what kind of scooter?

The 400 Burgman can maintain freeway speeds.
Holy crap what speed are those trucks going? They are limited to 56mph in uk
The speed limit is probably 60-65mph, which means the trucks (and the rest of the traffic) are probably doing closer to 70-75mph.😂
It's Brave of you to
take to highways at
those speed considering
that there's no coming back
100% or not at all if something
goes wrong .
I'm a witness of fatalities
seen to many motorbike

I still ride at sixty years old
but not at highway speeds,
I go nice and slow just for my
errand you know and even that
worry me sometimes , I know it's
hard not to let yourself go with flow
and if the bike can go faster well
you can feel that you've mastered
the machine and road it feels easy
you sometimes will know.
i did a run with mine on i 10 near tucson az the max 100 mph ? but she did it for about 300 mls but it was windy in parts and i pass a truck and got wind guts i got a bit of woble for a minute but i did pass the truck to clear him and got in front of him on slow lane but here in southwest the winds are serius . now i am moving back to east coast below south carolina near the atlantic ocean better rides over there if is not raining or cold key west fla here i come .
@@scootermike.thecharterpilot Thanks, Mike, I appreciate you taking the time to reply, and to share your thoughts.
You can, no prob.
Took my 2006 400 from East Texas to San Diego.
Up 287 thru DFW, I-40 W.
Down just E of Phoenix, thru Payson to Gila Bend, then W on I-8
1650 miles / 4 days.
Watch for potholes & road crust like a HAWK.
Crazed Semi Drivers can be sketchy - avoid em !
Pack carefully - but yeah Burgman 400 is very capible @ 70-80 cruising.
Ride Safe !
I myself own a 2016 Kymco People GTi300 & it does freeway speeds easily. .
I have the Kymco AK550, it's so easy and comfortable to ride...scooters rule!
I would be all over the forza 750 even a 350 ... I told the dealer that if honda didn't bring the forza line back to the US, my next bike would probably be a yamaha or suzuki
Of course it can. My Vespa 300 is more than up for it
So I always use pass button to high beam them to enhance the chance of other drivers seeing me
Good advice!! Thank you !
That's what the 'pass' button is for, when coming up to overtake a vehicle press the button
Nice Ride
Do you need a motorcycle license for these types of scooters
Most States yes you do need a motorcycle license. I say most States because as you know States have different Laws. I'm Maryland and Virginia resident and a went and got my Motorcycle M endorsement.
What year is this Burgman? The later one with 28hp or the earlier one with 33? Obviously the earlier one would be more capable on highways.
As it was doing 7000rpm at 75mph it's probably the later 28hp model. I have had two of the 33hp models and I don't recall the engine turning over that fast at 75.
How was the stability and ride on the highway? My limited experience with my SYM HD200 on the highway was good, except climbing a steep grade.
The stability was really good. I was a bit surprised as to how stable it was.
Yes absolutely, The SB 400 has a top speed of over 75mph ,
good job
Absolutely get the no highway/motorway thing 👎🏻 not my cup of tea either 🇬🇧.
I'm wondering if all highway s from USA are so bad?!
no not at all... its a texas thing!
Texas does have some of the most aggressive drivers in the U.S
Many roads are bad. Very expensive place to try to live.
Them people going around 90
My dad had a 07 and had major problems with the fuel injection. I took it on the highway a couple times an the last time I road it it death wobbled on me at 75mph . That bike was a pos
I hate driving aside trucks
75 is good for today speed
It’s hard to look “cool” on a scooter.
@@eddiebanks6704 U nailed it, but there is a coolness factor in not caring about looking a bit dorky
@@donaldlee6760 I totally agree. I rode a Honda helix and I currently ride a burgman 650. I just enjoy the ride, not what other people think.
Try a 650 burgman then your'l really fly lol
do they still make them? I was looking for one
@@scootermike.thecharterpilot its been discontinued but there is a fairly big used market
I have a burgman 650. I most say it’s something every scooter rider should try it’s a blast to ride.
I agree. My 07 Burgy 400 speedo reads 6 to 7 mph high according to my phone map app. Love my Burgman!,, Second one….
Wow finally someone says the correct max speed, I am only getting 80mph max with little wind on real GPS, but with a much taller windshield and I weigh 220 lbs on my 2023 400
Oh it goes !
@@lesjones471 ok deal ! thank you for your reply!)
Just curious..... What if... What if the unexpected did happen and you blow a tire at those speeds? Any chance of survival....???
I take nothing on the Interstate below 640cc. I also wouldn’t ride no Scooter 55 plus mph.
A burgman 650 would be a better choice on U.S highways
I have a Honda forza 300 and I take it on interstate 44 here in Missouri, it does 70 easily and it rides so smooth it’s so fun
You don’t know what your missing then. I constantly take my 2015 pcx on the interstate. It’s only a 150cc but with aftermarket cvt it will do 75mph.
Then you need to stay home or stop riding. A 400cc Burman can hit 90mph 75 is nothing for these scooters to cruise at and they are liquid cooled engines. Your comment indicates that you are not a rider.
@Xpunkpro my 2023 400 burgman only hits 80 mph with a very tall windshield and I weigh 220lbs
sounds like you should not be on a bike
I would strongly urge all bike riders to install seat belt on your bikes for the safety of yourself and passenger on your back to tie both down from "flying away" when falling down in an accident or breakdown. The seat belt could be the one removed from junked cars, a seat belt from airplane is even better.
Thanks for the comment....but bikes are very different than cars.....
you would not want to be strapped to a bike
if you fall with a bike its best to separate from the vehicle... not be attached to it... imagine... hitting the ground then being dragged by the bike and then stuck underneath it.
terrible idea how does that prevent you from getting hurt?
@@eddiebanks6704
At least the rider won't fly off and get run over by fast cars of next lane.
Buzzass.
Air bags are better ie jacket /trousers etc
Great review of a great machine .ĺ
My, my such manly comments about riding a motorcycle on the freeway. You must be the type of riders that create havoc on the roads with your “manly” recklessness!

you discussed more about your fear/anxiety than the burgman itself.
You didn't do justice to the motorcycle and the brand itself..
that was not my intention i love the Burgman its a great scooter
You’re being an asshole for no reason. If you were paying attention he clearly stated the top speed and show cased it’s Performance
