      That checklist is incredibly short, but airline procedure requires that they do it so they don't fucking crash the plane and kill everyone on board. The reason why you do it right before take-off is that if it's done earlier, then there's a chance something could change prior to take-off. It literally takes about 30 seconds to do. The ATC knew this and was being a bitch.

    • @altbust
      @altbust 8 лет назад +59

      yea right.....don't make excuses for them..I assume you are a BA pilot. You guys get it wrong too at times....just in case you think you are infallible. Yea we all know about checklists...and they are to be completed at an appropriate time so as not to delay other aircraft. The so called pre take off check list has two parts...the first is done while taxying...the second part is done after take off clearance...and it takes 5 seconds..when you are cleared for take off...you line up and carry out the "below the line" part...you do not delay other traffic because you are in the middle of check lists....you simply say...not ready...thats it....I suggest you do some research before making accusations that have no substance whatsoever. You simply show your ignorance and lack of understanding.

    I've operated into and out of Dublin many many times (used to be based there). We all know, we all get to the hold point and have to delay while we wait for the cabin but having wound the controller up by taking ages (not really your fault - but you have to accept the problems you've created for the controller), you DO NOT then take an eon completing you checks and refuse to clear the way for people behind you. You swallow your medicine and if she needs you to get out of the way of people who are ready, get out of the way and apologise. To hold everybody up for as long as this crew did, just to avoid losing their place is selfish and unprofessional.

    • @thankgodthatsover
      @thankgodthatsover 9 лет назад +17

      In addition, people have mentioned that taxi times can be short. The Aer Lingus terminal is VERY close to the runway, what do EI do? Do your checks before you move, clear everything except the cabin! Adapt your procedures to the situation guys...

    • @DublinAviation
      @DublinAviation  9 лет назад +52

      Yes, it takes under a minute to taxi from some EI stands to 28/34. Nonetheless, you don't lie to the controller that you are ready, go onto the runway and say that you're still doing takeoff checks.

    • @manusmacgearailt667
      @manusmacgearailt667 3 года назад +8

      I’m not sure why the cabin crew would not be ready for take off when the aircraft has reached the runway. Even on an aer lingus flight from terminal 2 with a short taxi, the safety demo is completed during pushback or before then, and cabin secure check is completed during or before taxi, so from then on the crew are just waiting to be told to take their seats. Also BA usually operates from pier 2 or 3 at Dublin so they have a longer taxi thus more time, when EI flights can make do with less and still depart promptly.
      I wonder from the pilot’s tone and attitude if controllers at Heathrow are more lenient and give BA flights more time because they’re the main airline there?

    • @michaelhayden725
      @michaelhayden725 Год назад

      Don’t call ready if the cabin stewards are still running around. They have to react when the captain says take your seats for take off. The senior steward then reports. Then the aircraft is ready. Not before!

      +96 Alpha At least in the U.S., Tower will normally instruct "Go around," not "Go missed." "Cancel approach clearance" also works, but "Go around" works for either IFR or VFR traffic. VFR traffic should overfly the runway, climb to pattern altitude, and then turn onto the crosswind. IFR traffic, upon being instructed to go around, should execute the published missed approach procedure (and follow any additional instructions issued by ATC.)

    Speedbird 845 was clearly not ready to line up and depart, but the pilot equally clearly did not want to have his own departure delayed, which is what would have happened if he had followed ATC instructions (which he should have done) to vacate. He would have missed his slot and gone to the back of the queue. Instead he gave a series of delaying responses to he could complete his own checks and not lose his place.

      Sean R
      There are checks that must be completed prior to lining up and when you are given line up clearance there are an additional set of cockpit checks to complete. These will include things like turning the lights on, turning anti-ice on, turning the air-conditioning off etc and then reading a checklist afterwards to check that it has all been completed properly. After this is all done they are ready to go. At this point the crew COULD have ignored her whilst they completed their checks and said 'say again' or something similar anticipating the take-off clearance.

    Accepting line up clearance before you have cabin secure is a big no no. you do realise on an A319 there's 130+ variables as to your ability to call ready, right? cockpit could get the green from the cabin, to then find one of them decided it'd be fun to run to the toilet, or get their laptop out their bag. then they're no longer ready. can't help that as pilots once you're on the runway. got to go with whatever happens.
      they definitely held their ground and stayed when maybe they shouldn't, but if there's more research done into this, you'll know that the RWY she proposed to vacate to was inactive. some Airbus fleet also have line up checks, so you may be ready at E1, but you still have stuff to do as you're lining up or waiting.
      this is a bit hoo-har about really nothing.

    • @SeafoodDavid93
      @SeafoodDavid93 8 лет назад +15

      +CaptainArt777 The only time a pilot can over-rule ATC is in the event of an emergency. That does not mean they have the final say. One of the very first things you learn in ATC is obviously that an emergency takes number one priority. A pilot will communicate the situation to ATC, be it fuel emergencies or a cabin depressurization or engine failure, requiring an immediate descent. ATC will in turn instruct the pilot in landing quickly and safely. So no, The Captain does not always have the final word. And a Captain that directly disobeys ATC instruction (minus emergencies) should not be a Captain. If you practise what you preach and If you really are a pilot, I'd report you in a heartbeat.
