Never understood with all the development in radio emitters, receivers, and things like wifi and bluetooth, nobody's managed to filter airport comms to stop sounding so horrifically distorted that 90% of it is incomprehensible. Any chance you could walk us through why that could be?
@@InservioLetum have a look at what they use when flying over the atlantic ocean. Its interesting. HF radio. Recently they made it so the pilots dont have to listen to static for the whole crossing, only when they need to check in amd out and if cpdlc fails

That operator whose theme is "EARTH TO ___ ___" whenever the pilots don't respond is hilarious and great. If I was a pilot he'd make my day or night every time with that. "He's lost on a frequency to another planet it seems" is phenomenal. Guy could easily be a comedian with that timing, cadence and tone.
That was the mythical Kennedy Steve! He retired from Ground, and now works Terminal One ramp!

I've listened to a few ATC videos now and he made me realize I can't listen to any more because I will say something on the radio at work that will get me in trouble. 😆

In an environment where there's absolutely no room for error, it's nice to know that these guys can still have a moment or two of funny conversation. I used to work in a similar environment and the funny moments help you make to the end of the day and getting home.
Most of the recording of KS are ground. When it gets crazy, or when he deals with non English primary language pilots, he slows down and simplifies. Turkish and the Chinese airlines get my vote as the ones who are the most difficult for ground ATC to handle.

This one cracked me up
My favorite was a friend of mine at a small airport somewhere. He checks in when outside the hanger, is told to taxi somewhere and wait, then told to taxi somewhere else and wait, then told to taxi to the end of one of the runways and given permission to take off. He did. Only after cruising down the runway a few feet above it did the tower actually look and realize his aircraft was rotary wing!
I could imagine the controller's face on that, hahaha

Kennedy Steve was a classic!! (Now retired) I could listen to him all day. Not only was he the true professional, he was also quite hilarious! What a class act!! 💕✈✈💕

He's now the Ramp Manager at Terminal 1 at JFK. That airport is in his blood!

Kennedy Steve...my only regret in 27 years of ATC is not being able to work next to you. Then again, if I did, I would have died an early death.......laughing.
Hearing Kennedy Steve on the radio was the best part of flying into / out of JFK.
These are great. My grandson was an ATC in the Air Force and now that he's a civilian, he is in ATC in the midwest. I'll have to find out if he's seen any of these. Love it!
Watching these, I have a new respect for the pointed sarcasm ATC operators seem to radiate

Cons: ATC is one of the most stressful jobs on the planet.
Pros: You get to say “Earth to so-and-so” one millisecond after they don’t respond to you, and you get to keep your job.
to be fair, the silence is cut. those three calls would be withing about 2 -3 min all together.

I expected some goodies from Kennedy Steve, and I was delighted to hear from some other ATCs that have a dry sense of humor as well.
I reckon this would make for a side splitting fun TV show each week...makes you wonder how they get in and out as safe as they do
Could only be at JFK! I flew out of there in a 767 for 14 years and there was never a dull moment with ATC. Those controllers were tough, competent, and entertaining. I loved them! But never miss a call from them or you will get yelled at big time.

An AAL flight missed a call the other day and crossed in front of DAL on the roll. Rejected takeoff in time which the tower saw. Could,have had another Tenerife because AAL wasn't listening.

As a New Yorker, I was watching this video the whole time just knowing this guy had to be a JFK or LGA controller lol... you can hear impatience in everyone, but it comes out different from New Yorkers 😂

Ah yes, ATC and Pilots: Two fields who work in absolute harmony, populated by professionals prepared to respond to emergencies with their years of training and razor sharp minds.
They also have a side channel for meowing at eachother and alot of fuel intakes have 'OwO' on them.

When I listen to these I am often reminded of trying to give directions to students when I was a substitute teacher. lol
The skill level of these traffic controllers is absolutely astounding. I can see myself having 10 million dollars worth of planes all smashed together in the middle of the runway.
Towards the end you get a taste of the Eternal Battle between Kennedy Steve and the tugs. Tugs and Super Tugs for the heavies always needed but they have the WORST radios and they are not in soundproof cabs so they deal with background noise. Plus they are getting squawks from the ramp etc.
I was landing a C150. A British Caladonian 707 called long final, and were cleared to land after "the cherokee", once I cleared the runway he was cleared to land. He aknowleged, but also pointed out that the cherokee had landed inverted!

Steve Kennedy was a “LEGEND “ at JFK! Never got tired of listening to him handle JFK Ground and attempt to position aircraft for departure. Those were the good old days when listening to JFK ground frequencies was exciting . Ever since Steve Kennedy retired, I ceased to enjoy ,JFK Ground! A shout out to Steve Kennedy, “ ENJOY YOUR WELL DESERVED RETIREMENT “! JFK will never be the same without you!

I don't know why I think this stuff is so funny. I used to watch something like this that was virtual.
For 7 minutes every days, I roleplay ATC when I am trying to explain to my DoorDash driver how to find me so I can get my fries before they are stale and cold.
