Wow! Some of y'alls comments are gold! I absolutely had a blast on the show. I am tickled that you guys enjoyed our episode! Thanks for the kind words!
You made a blade to be proud of, and even though you didn’t win the sword will make an excellent wall decoration
Big fan of your work sir!, sending prayers and best wishes all the way from Pakistan.
A true gentleman sir, that´s the way to compete. Iñigo Montoya would be proud
Great work!
Rapiers are *very* difficult pieces to work. You did a stellar job. Well done.
The one thing about this show I love is that everyone has a great attitude coming in and when they are told to leave the forge.
The sportsmanship Is beautiful
They routinely help their competitors.
Indeed, great sportsmanship, in contrast to some modern sports like MMA where it is more rare to have good sportsmen and women like Georges St. Pierre and Holly Holm. It is a pleasure to see some honor in competition.
Especially compared to the petulance you see on shows like Ink Masters
I think this is how most people actually act, it's just sadly most shows only let in crazy people to create more drama and views.
"bout as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs"

i felt that fr
I literally just watched that part and knew that someone would quote it. It is such a funny and exceedingly long statement!
Wow
Honestly so funny
Ron looks like a guy that used to be a software engineer, retired, got bored and decided to take up blacksmithing.
Hahaha XD

That’s what software engineering does to u
My husband, whose a programmer, said when he retires, he’d like to get into forging. 😊🤣🇨🇦
That describes a friend of mine well :D

IJustAm you keep saying that word, I do not think you know what that means
The bend tests always make me cringe. I'm waiting for the "ping" sound of a breaking blade.
And also same
You ain't alone brother.
Testing the flexibility of a blade like this is not a bad thing at all.
Anxiety-inducing tbh
Those blades are kinda stiff for a rapier
Nobody:
Americans: *"We'll I'm just about as nervous as a three-tailed raccoon riding a sled through the African diamond mines"*
@Leaf life
"American" is a nationality, not a race.
@Leaf life
Diamond mines in africa are very common, since there is an abundance of diamonds in africa, dude.
That's almost strictly Southerners with those awful euphemisms.
Kevin Klingenberg no, I thought the same thing until I moved to Pittsburgh!
@Anzu Wyliei Wholesome is a healthy bowl of oatmeal.
The bending stress test is one of the most intense test ever. Especially for the katana one
Yep. And differentially hardened Chinese blades.
And other Japanese swords. Not just katana.
Was just about as stressed as those blades watching that
It was pretty close to a kick in the gut watching it first hand.......
"You're going to fight _that_ ?"
"I'm going to _keel_ that."
Just wear a helmet though
Or you will get your eyes crushed!
@@brianmayabella5992
Poor Oberyn...
If only he had a Beskar helmet.
What I love about this show is that the competitors actually care for and cheer on each other. Like they seriously want each other to succeed. Even though they are competing for money, they always want to see their opponents do well.
His daughter is so cute when she's looking in awe of that rapier. Give her that sword. Lol
_"My name is Douglas Marcaida and I keel the dummies."_
😂
I feel like he gets off from saying “it will keel”
Everyone does...
eat will keel,hahaha
But apparently nobody gets off to it as much as you lol
No judgement ;)
He literally sells Shirts with that sentence so obviously ^^
I love how the contestants on this show are normally nice to each other
Doug: "It will KEEL."
Inigo: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
Inigo Montoya: When the six-fingered man appeared and requested a special sword my father took the job. He slaved a year before it was done.
Host Wil Willis: You have four days.
When the six-fingered man returned he demanded the sword but at 1/10 of its original price.
@@jesseling6672 without a word, the six-fingered man slash him through the heart.
@@chrismc410 I loved my father

Dread-pirate Roberts/Wesley: “How old were you?”
I think this was one of the closest final rounds in this show.
Kinda obvious:
1. Both designs were similar, without any major flaws.
2. The tests the blades went through were made for a different kind of weapon: the rapier should be flexible anyway and it isn't intended to cut deeply.
@@ami6272 it's a weapon made for trusting deep into the bowels of your opponents if it didn't flex well I might just snap off inside your enemy and your left with a useless nub
extremely close indeed. I think it only boiled down to one taking a bit more of a set than the other in the flex
@@gravedigger4450 if it snaps off in the enemy, I'm betting the "useless nub" won't really matter as your enemy will most likely be rather preoccupied with removing the bit that was until recently attached to the part you're holding.

The sportsmanship on this show is nearly unmatched...i love it lol
3:32 pure Doug moment 😂😂
These two dudes seem like the nicest guys on earth
Jesse is a wonderful guy and a great AG teacher. Grew up where he taught.
@@frostedscalesthank you! You grew up in San Augustine?
@@jesseharrison2765 Sure did, graduated around 2013
That flex test is so demanding, but not for a rapier, which is designed to be able to flex, being a predominantly thrusting weapon.
Its not comfortable seeing that though.
Any truly proper rapier should have no problem flexing much past that point..
Y'all some nerds.
For a rapier made in four days it is.
@Evocati Having handled period weapons before, I can tell you unequivocally that yes, they are supposed to be able to flex past that point.
Evocati if they’re stiff they’ll break way too easy. They need the flex to able to go through and not shatter
10 grand will probably just pay these guys to taxes lol. Look at their forges for christ sake they're warehouses lmao
That is our high school shop. My home shop is a portable building with a lean to on one side.......🤷🏻
Does anyone know how to apply for this show? Not for making blades just as the kill test dummy ??
Chris Flack let me know if you find out
You mean the keal test dummy
you ok bro
You'd have to be a real dummy to take that job.
Can't have much of a resume for that job. Hard to write after previous experience left you in pieces.
Jesse has to be very proud, Ron´s blade was just amazing, nearly perfect.
I've noticed a trend - anytime Colorado Springs, CO is featured in this show that town has some really nice forges and they seem to pretty much always grab that win no matter the blade.
Ron is my Neighbor and I went to his shop once and it was really amazing!
I never ever had an opposite opinion from judges.. they are really gems
Except on the "beat the judges" they are clearly biases on those.
Jesse has the most American accent I've ever heard. 😂 Love it.
Scary watching someone not wearing protective gear doing this sort of work. Gloves for example
MY NAME IS INIGO MONTOYA, YOU CATASTROPHIC FAILURED MY BLADE, PREPARE TO FORGE!
Colonel Sarge prepare to surrender your weapon to the judges

@@colonelsarge9207 Ha, well it still made me laugh too.
Akash Adrian Mehta
Ironic, considering that your grammar is also imperfect.
The strength test is the most nerve-racking thing I have watched today.
That flex test is like waiting for a compound fracture to happen 💯
"You killed my father, prepare to... Forge!"
Everyone in the room: *cringe*
Everything he said in that beginning made me cringe 😂😂
Everyone: i will keep my grandpa's stuff safe
Jesse: im just gonna take some stuff out of my grandpa's wheel from his wagon
He would have been proud
Imagine ten thousand back in his grandpa's days
I could feel their heartbeat in the flextest
Lmao Doug is moving like a real Spanish swordman
6:54 About as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chair but go ahead
I like the 10 min videos over the 5 ones cuz I like to see the forging process at the home forges
Let me make one thing clear. If Dave Baker has even the slightest critique of your weapon, we're gonna have to ask you to leave the forge.
That "papa don't take no mess" line was more painful than the bend test.
"it is in the heavy side"... ofcouse it is, you will probably use the rapier to cut rebars!
The only way to survive the strength test is to make the sword ridiculously heavy.
@@andrewtang4538 There was no strength test. They did the bend test, it tests the rapier flexibility which it needs to have as it is predominantly used as a stabbing weapon. Having a heavier/thicker blade is not going to help with flexibility.
@@artymar1537 a stabbing weapon needs to be mostly stiff. The more it flexes the less it stabs.
@@andrewtang4538 that isn't ridiculously heavy. A rapier is meant to weigh around as much as a longsword. 1.5 kilograms. Could be a bit lighter. Could be a bit heavier. Maybe it weighed 1.75 kilograms. He said it was wieldable.
@@ninjahombrepalito1721 not a rapier
Represented your family well, no sir, with honor. What a great final pair.
Looking forward to them recreating the “Singing Sword” from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
I thought the Singing Sword was from Prince Valiant?
Is a disqualification if the sword doesn't sing like Sinatra.
That guy has the thickest southern accent ever.
these bend tests are more unnerving than any other test
I love the fact they put the ads just before the keel test!
Ron put alot into his blade. Great forge cave👍
Every contestant is so wholesome congratulating each other when it preforms or fails and no throwing shade at each other
7:06 is exactly my expression everytime I'm watching a flex test. 🤣🤣🤣
Ron's vocal timbre evokes Anthony Bourdain.
"And yes im going to torture your blades" D.B
Jesse has a fair amount of Norse imagery on him. His necklace, tattoo, and bracelet being some I witnessed.
“I’m about as nervous as a 3 eyed, one legged dog in a warehouse full of explosive field mice”
It will cut portion should be renamed "It is sharp" - obviously it cuts, we saw that in the first test
Both did well in all the tests, both are champs! Awsome bladesmiths👍
It's a shame to see a real good blade lose, when there are so many episodes where a mediocre blade wins just because of a catastrophic failure from the other
That bend test!!! BRUTAL!‼‼‼
This is the nth time they asked for a fencing/thrusting sword on the show, and the nth time they did a flex test.
Watching DB bend a sword that much hasn't gotten easier.
but why do they do a cut test to a thrusting sword? whats next? stabing with an axe?
@@punicwars2 Rapiers can still slash and cut. They still have a sharpened edge unlike the smallsword or the estoc. Of course, they're not as good at it as a dedicated cutting weapon.
But I do get your point. If you want to see Forged in Fire wrongly test a weapon, look up their Sodegarami episode. They treated the Japanese man-catcher as a straight-up bashing weapon when it's really designed to entangle on a target's clothing.
@@javierpatag3609 yeah... its wired. Test the it for what it is used...
I absolutely love seeing a competitive show where the contestants are supportive of another

Rodents of unusual size? I don't think they exist
@@chrismc410 Ever seen a Capybara? Yeah, they exist lol
@@gravityracergt was quoting the movie but yes, I've seen rodents bigger than that. Groundhogs are wider, some beavers can get even bigger
The Hattori Hanzo or Highlander katanas would be better. (Connor MacLeod's or Duncan MacLeod's, dragon heads are different).
The best weapon against ROUS is firearms. Preferably full auto, belt-fed. MG-42/MG-3 should do nicely. Ma Deuce, Miniguns or any M61 20mm family weapons would be overkill.
LOVE the sportsmanship here
The should host a cooking show.
"Your curry soup with hi-test turmeric? It will kill."
I love how some people say sir like he said ”thanks sir” sort of gives that respect into it. We dont have those in my languague
What language do you speak?
The winner clearly has a good paying job since he has an extremely expensive heat treat oven. That's usually one of the last things people spend that kind of money on.
Triune Blades No lie their that shop and grinder all look brand new
It might be a collective kind of shop. artisans will use it kind of like a club house and pay for stuff collectively.
@@jasonprosser7392 We opened it up as a Makerspace about 2 years ago to do just like you are suggesting - people can rent space in my shop/school to do everything from hobby smithing to running a business and we will advise them on anything they need help with. So the shop is mine, but it's set up to support pretty much any metal project you can imagine and we take care of our equipment. :)
I love my shop! It didn't happen overnight for sure. I've been building it for about 30 years and started teaching about seven years ago. The school has grown to over 3,500 students this year and three instructors from the school have been on the show now. Thousands of knives and hundreds of swords are made here every year, so the two heat treat ovens get a ton of use. We are the only American Bladesmith Society school in the west too, so to teach those kinds of classes requires up-to-date equipment. That said -- I didn't own a power hammer or press until a couple of years ago, and those ovens are relatively new. It was all hand-work and by eye to that point.. The horsepower is nice!
sir awesome That's
What an awesome show! I love every minute of it and look forward to my Wednesday nights! Very impressive Jesse! And kudos to all who have the guts to show their skills. We need another mace episode!
Thank you! This was a very cool experience for sure. Glad you enjoyed it!
Good episode. Considering the home forges were on 2 different levels.

It would’ve been so cool if he enacted the same killing blows inigo used on the count on the ballistics dummy

Bout as nervous when he has blood on him saying “it will keel” and smiling
It will keel? 🤣👌
Man, was waiting for one of them to go "Stop saying that!" when the judges asked if they were ready.
Since is Iñigo Montoya father's sword, a blade made out of Toledo steel would have been an immediate win.
¡ Indeed, and in fact its name is a rapier sword because it was carried as an accessory for clothing ! ☺️👍
Bro. That movie is iconic. RIP Andre The Giant. You’re forever missed brother.
