@Grim Reefer chill dude they've not done anything wrong. they just do it to make the show more realistic.
HISTORY “It could remove heads and limbs with a single strike”

Grim Reefer the animals are dead and the ballistics dummies are built exactly for these purposes and you used the wrong context of no.
This should be sponsored by Wilkinson, Up The Blades.
Dear Sirs! Tell me, why recently from the program that is shown on IPTV cut tests with a ballistic dummy and cutting up a pig carcass (for example season 7 episode 2)? With respect.
and here I am, hoping he would state: "you'll be making this - The sword of Santa"

I love Jamie's smithy. The old brick wall with vines, small trees near the border and the overgrown look is just awesome.
Knowing Grand Rapids it is probably located in an old furniture factory. Beautiful, old timey construction.
I love how he patted himself on the shoulder when it cut the pig in half.
He was comforting himself after witnessing that amount of destruction
"Imma gonna do Damascus"
Ended using 5160 spring steel.
Every. Single. Time.
6:08 That's a pretty clean cut
Your weapon sir.... will Keeel
His face...he looks horrified
This is the last place I'd expected too see you...unless
The guy who's steel cracked a bunch wasn't heating it enough, it was cooling too fast and there fore breaking
OMG there is a genius in chat
Spring steel (especially 5160) does not like to be forge welded in most cases.
Zodiac K I thought he was making it too hot or that his forge was too small
the difference in tools used by these two was totally bonkers. Power hammer and propane forge vs Coal and muscle.
Ahh, I’d say it’s much more likely he was overheating it, especially with a coke/coal forge, it happens all the time. Especially considering he’s working outside in the sunlight, the temperatures are often hotter than they appear. To me the main reason this seems to be occurring is because the steel is being heated with too much oxygen from the fan, if he was to really mound up the solid fuel he is using higher, above the core of heat, he would have a insulated area easily hot enough to melt the steel ( allowing him to forge weld his san-mai billet ) this mound of solid fuel over the core would also be creating an insulated layer to protect the steel from too much oxygen.
6:19 - "Your blade is very heavy" Welp, he's done.
When he said "It's still heavy" I'm like "Well I don't think it'll get lighter unless you take chunks out of it lol
Down to distal tapering. Thick at the guard, thin at the tip.
I think this is the first time a blade that was damaged actually beat a blade that was not damaged.
He won as he only took a bend while the other is too heavy and his blade is too blunt.
@@liambanloh6972 Not trying to be rude, but FYI, "Blunt" basically means that it doesnt have and edge, that its more or less "rounded" or even flat at the edge.
A more appropriate word would be "Dull", meaning its not sharp, but have an edge. :)
But also gotta agree with Calvin, it cut through the pig no problem, a Dull blade (and especially one that is blunt) would never be able to do that with human force.
@@sgt_kissekatt6686 maybe I was bad at phrasing my words as my pronounciation is bad but the last part of the trimming looked like it was not good for cutting. Sorry but my english is not so good.
@@liambanloh6972 No need to apologise, we learn languages by using them, right? :D
I'm not native english speaker either but use english quite a bit. :)
@@liambanloh6972 Think you are talking about the edge profiling/shape of the edge.
So I took a quick look at the video again skipping through, looks like he may have a slight convex edge. Which is common on axes but not so much swords, does decrease its cutting performance slightly but makes it more resistant against edge damage.
It still cut quite well though, probably partially due to the fact that its top heavy -> gives more powerful swings. :)
Imagine in like 2,000 years they just say we’re having you create this iconic weapon from history - *the lightsaber*
Aw yeah. Im anxious what kind of power source theyll use.
Anubis AA Batteries
Alright for the endurance test, we're going to do the Luke Skywalker shoulder throw off a cliff.
Remember, this test is all about what the throw does to your ligbtsaber, not what the lightsaber throw did to the upset audience.

Imagine in 5000 years or 10,000 from 2020 "were having you make this iconic weapon from history...the ak 47"
Every time he hits the ice it makes my soul hurt.
I liked this episode because usually guys get their swords done by day two, but for these guys It was really down to the bone and they were on the same boat.
His Mama surely didn't raise no quitter, and even though he lacked in resources yet he still managed to pull through and put up an amazing fight for the title but unfortunately his luck ran out on him as his blade was too heavy to wield. Nevertheless, he earned my respect for not giving up 👏👍
The Nutcracker's sword.... i was wondering how they could possibly tie this into Christmas, well done.
If looks could kill, that guy's suit would be the deadliest weapon in the building.
This suit, it will keel
Judges: Make this sword, its a tip heavy sword
Jamie: **makes the sword**
Judges: jamie, you failed, your sword is tip heavy.
it's not really, 1100 grams is very heavy for these swords (by comparison 1100 grams is the average for a medieval arming sword. )
It was *too* tip heavy.
@@matthewpham9525 wrong. They hate any sword thats not balanced right at the guard

Not every sword, Ben Abbot turned in a blade that was significantly blade heavier than his opponents.

5:25 aww he wore a suit ❤️
Lol what
Ask for a tip heavy sword, lose for delivering a tip heavy sword, and first time I've ever seen a non damaged weapon lose to a damaged one
Tip heavy, not blade heavy, that weight will still be a big issue

Ambitious AND disastrous trying sword sized Damascus in a small backyard coal pan forge. I say practically impossible.
jaime is a god bruh he managed to make a complete blade in around 2 days
The difference of the quality of tools these guys have makes it so unfair lol
I know right, I noticed the same thing
Doesnt matter the quality as long as u know how to work the steel
No if you have the true skill and talent it doesn't matter as long as you understand and know how to use what you got .
@@b_f_d_d u know what ur talkin bout👍
@@b_f_d_d But if you have sufficiently good tools you don't need much skill to get a good result. Give me a CNC mill and I, a person with zero forging knowledge, can make a great sword in 4 days.
It would be interesting to know how many final pieces end up being constructed from simple leafspring.
Who's watching this in May 2020 and wishing that we could just celebrate Christmas right now.
1:20 finally, someone NOT from the middle of nowhere!
One great person one said
There's no feeling more intense than starting over'
everyone just goes "I'll be different and make some damascus, that'll set me apart from the competition"
I am now going to start a family tradition of trimming the annual Christmas tree with an heirloom saber.
I don’t think being top heavy is that big a deal for a cavalry sword. I would’ve really liked to see them make custom tests, like strikes on the ballistic gel from a moving horse.
Can you imagine the Mercaida family carving a turkey, with the narration analysis? 🤣🤣🤣
6:06 dude looks like he's scared of his own blade.
I like how that one dude was forming out his blade then hit it with all of the heated portion off the anvil and it cracked and then he said “I can’t believe this thing cracked on me” like nah dip the weak and heated portion that you hit had nothing underneath
Do ppl even know who Doug is?
Doug is more than just the keeeel guy we know and love. Search him up
If they wouldve cleaned their pieces before forge welding them into a single billet, that wouldve prevented cracks. And the fact that one of the guys kept hammering when the metal barely glowed was a bad move.
Surprised they didn't ask them to make like a candy cane sword or something like that XD would've been kinda cool ngl
I love their use of the dance of the Cossack in this episode!
This guy is a professional at burning steel
bro... 4:20 hammered off the anvil..it was bound to happen
why do i love this show so much???
Usually they show the person that gets dismissed shaking everybody's hands and leaving the forge but they just cut strait to the winner.
7:18 Santa goes crazy on innocent ice block
They said the Sabre was supposed to be heavy to inflict massive damage disqualifies for weapon being heavy lol
Every time I hear one of these guys say “what I wanted to do isn’t working so I grab a leaf spring” it makes me sad. They always end up losing cause of the weight.
2:10 edit in the word Christmas. Earlier view of Grand Rapids with snow everywhere and then he's forging with green plants around him. Haha. I mean it's an attempt with the Christmas theme anyway!
That’s New Mexico for you.
When they say it's heavy. You should know you are Fked up
Ayeeee Grand Rapids Michigan 🤟🏽🤟🏽
Thanks for recommending this during this time of year RUclips
Happy Holidays all!!!🥰🥰🥰
It’s funny that they’re wearing “protective” plastic goggles 😂
Dude, those things surprisingly are no joke. I've seen one save a dude's eye from a blown out angle grinder disk. Admittedly the shard to the chest did still sent him to the hospital but at least he can still see :P
Smokey2873 yeah that’s fair it just seems a little useless when dealing with heavy duty weapons like the ones being displayed on this show. I do get your point though : )
One guy had a hammer and anvil. Other guy had the entire terminator laboratory
The difference in equipment is insane.
Of COURSE a holiday-themed episode would include the infamous ice block chop.
Every time I hear ice chop my insides fold in on themselves
Doug twist he’s foot “it hurts near the HEEEEEEEEEE”
Cringe
Iron Age VS. Industrial Revolution, how fair.
Only thing that matters is.. “It will keel”
Lol you can't measure the last test xD
yes you can
Both competitors: "I'm going to waste a day and a half of my time trying to do damascus and get failed billets on a sword I've never made before."
I mean at least his nutcracker saver did not bend that’s something to be proud of💯
Gęõrgę Mćkíññęÿ yeah it won in my book, plus traditional horse mounted strikes would want a heavy blade , so it would have more energy like a chopping axe , with being on horseback you only get intermittent strikes so the need to swing twice is seldom
Nothing better than a good "KEEL" before Christmas
9:56 "Anything to say to the world?"
Uuh Merry Christmas, but most importantly, it will keeel
"it's so forward heavy" is the polite way to say "man you are screwed"
Jusges: Your sword is Heav...
Contestant: Aight I help myself out.
Love the christmas music while showing slaughter
I’m just here for my daily dose of it will keel !!!
At 5:31 I swear I thought he was wearing an eye patch/bandage 🤣🤣
I understand that it’s nice to have a light sword but in history if the sword was meant to be tip heavy (as it was mentioned) and took less damage. Then he should have won. Congrats to the winner though because he did have a nice blade.
Yeah I think they don't understand the function needed from a cavalry sword. The heavy blade would be good for using on horseback on the charge.
this was what i was waiting for
The strength test always makes me wince.
*Slices pig with weapon*
Pig: Am I a joke to you?
It WIlL kIlL
I wanted Dave to be dressed as Santa, im sad now ngl
Santa’s sword, for those on the naughty list haha
Jamie's equipments are far inferior than the other guys's
Seems like a personal problem. If you watched one of the first episodes of season one, there was a challenge where the smiths had to use a coal forge. All but one never used one, yet managed to make blades that didn't crack 20 times. Given this blade is longer and more complex than the daggers from season 1. He still should know to use his forge well.
Lesson is you gotta clean your steel and make sure it's pure before you forge weld it. Or weld it in general.
Any weapon will be unwieldy if the person using it flails around like a child with their first baseball bat.
His son is so cute!
You can marry him, yea? Xd
I loved the name of that sword
Came for the forge, stayed for the keeell
Love how Doug has the black Santa hat on
Here's my issue, and it's a big one: IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A CAVALRY SABER!!! The weight of Jamie's blade makes sense, in that regard. On top of that, at least his blade didn't warp from the strength test! The whole thing was skewed, imo.
Cavalry saber is not meant to be heavy though, it's meant to be wielded with one hand whilst gripping the horses stirrup in the other, now what it's not designed to do is hack away into a block of ice, they probably took this into consideration.
@@shino8854 here's the thing, though: in a cavalry charge, the goal is to make a wide sweep of the blade for the sole purpose of a heavy cut. That's what this blade is good for. It was not a fencing saber. You want to do repeated cuts, then you wheel it around if you have to reset, or you use the momentum it has to keep the power of your swing. They said it was forward heavy, but that's also how they described the original weapon.
Now, maybe he could have put it to the grinder a bit longer to hog off some weight, but I still think his was the better blade.
@@joeofalltradeslondon2353 Yeah, gotta agree with you on that one. A cavalry saber isn't designed for sword fights; it's a chopper. This is like the episode(s) where they tell the smiths to make a rapier, but then slashing attacks make up 90% of the tests.
Without knowing the actual weights it's hard to tell. Antique 1796 sabres are around 850-950g with the balance point around 15cm forward of the hilt. Forward heavy but it was known for lightness and saw use by infantry as well.
Jamie's did look rather heavier and he only had a narrow fuller by the looks of it while the original sabre's fuller was much wider. The other guys handle & guard was ugly as though. Neither sword seemed great.
Well deserved win
They should have been made to forge Santa's legendary Red & White Hooked Polearm, or Mrs Claus's devastating Rolling Pin,
Or even better Krampus's Branch!
I swear the man gets paid to say it will keeeeeeeeeeel
At first I was disappointed it wasn't a candy cane-sword, but after the intro I changed my mind.
My favorite tv show.... Grettings from Serbia ♥
So no one talks about Doug's cute black Santa hat? I'm sad that the other 2 judges didn't wore a santa too
Your blade broke in half but it's 1 pound lighter. You won
Roses are red, violets are blue,
Somewhere there's an Asian, better than you.
That would be me.
