Gripping a sword too tightly causes undue stress on the wrist and you with hurt yourself swinging even the finest blades that are perfectly ergonomic.
Dear FiF judges, Please note that on Jay's test, the second contender made an equally deadly piece. Probably even deadlier than the first. It was just a problem of whoever goes second in the test. Ice chopping is a pretty brutal test on the arms and I feel that someone should have continued with testing. The guard didn't come off, it was just a different approach on the finish. Good day!
@@DMNDR The issue is Jay has terrible form and can't swing a weapon correctly. His lack of ability to control a weapon has nothing to do with the design and everything to do with his incompetence.
I am impressed by that damascus blade. The fact alone that the blacksmith got it done in few days is amazing but in that time he allso forged the best properties of damascus in to the blade, which are the stainless steel like flexibility and toughness from multiple layers of weld. well done.
When Jay went to go hit the block of ice the corner broke off and the blade flexed in the direction of the fallen corner making Jay roll his wrist essentially as you would roll your ankle, you can see how his hand twists at an improper angle. Wouldn't blame the smith for that one.
Larry Clark first off it is “wouldn’t ***have*** happened”, and second yes it would have happened if the handle was tight. If anything it would have been worse, when the blade rotates it has a bit of give where it doesn’t transfer to the handle if it was loose, say maybe 5 degrees of leeway meaning a 90 degree twist would only move the handle 85 degrees, if the handle was completely tight his arm would take the full twist. Hitting that ice and glancing off it is effectively the same as someone grabbing the blade of the sword and suddenly twisting it in his hand, whether the handle is loose or not isn’t going to change the fact that his arm is going to get twisted.
I know there is a level of appeal when having a big man use his brute strength to test a sword buy slamming it as hard as possible against things. However, putting the appeal aside, why not make the strength test done by a machine? I hear he gets injured in these tests often. This would protect him from these cases. Plus I have reason to believe with the ice breaking off like that may have effected the users grip or handling. It may not have been the sword smiths sword at fault but random chance or user error.
The guy hurt himself by swinging the sword like an idiot. It's his own fault. Funny how he waited till after he hurt himself to start listing off problems with the sword.

@@ZackBlackwood97 rip to the legend
Dear FiF judges,
Please note that on Jay's test, the second contender made an equally deadly piece. Probably even deadlier than the first.
It was just a problem of whoever goes second in the test. Ice chopping is a pretty brutal test on the arms and I feel that someone should have continued with testing. The guard didn't come off, it was just a different approach on the finish.
Good day!
5:12 Hilarious - he's got blood on him on his face and he just continues talkin "Alright, Billy..." lol
Make a *scottish* backsword.
Billy: Nah. Murica.
“ I hate to see that something I made has caused harm to someone else”
He says about the sword he made
I love how after Doug cuts off his head he proceeds to pick it up and still hit it in the face and say, "I will not be denied."
Jay beats everey thing like a hammer... Im surprised that these swords are still in one piece
Hence why it's called a STRENGTH TEST! Testing the strength of the blades.
Douglas Haley with that mindset you might as well shoot a cannon ball against the sword because it’s a ‘’ strength’’ test..
@@Joel-tv7jw nah they use bullets from time to time.
@@DMNDR The issue is Jay has terrible form and can't swing a weapon correctly. His lack of ability to control a weapon has nothing to do with the design and everything to do with his incompetence.
2:33 there goes my plans for the day...
Scottish Backsword. Billy: "I'm gonna put an American flag on it."
"Now we are sending you back home to recreate... This tank that is besides you!"
Dude his Grunt while swinging... I can’t
I am impressed by that damascus blade. The fact alone that the blacksmith got it done in few days is amazing but in that time he allso forged the best properties of damascus in to the blade, which are the stainless steel like flexibility and toughness from multiple layers of weld. well done.
emergency room: "What did you do"
- oh i just hit an iceblock with a sword.. then i cried because i´m a wimp and drove here.
"I'm going to swing a sword with all my might into this ice block, if it hurts me it's all your fault"
When Jay went to go hit the block of ice the corner broke off and the blade flexed in the direction of the fallen corner making Jay roll his wrist essentially as you would roll your ankle, you can see how his hand twists at an improper angle. Wouldn't blame the smith for that one.
True
it's because the handle was loose
if it was tight it wouldn't of happened
Yea regardless the handle was loose and he would have lost for that reason alone.
Larry Clark
first off it is “wouldn’t ***have*** happened”, and second yes it would have happened if the handle was tight.
6:48 this is the first person who at least seems to be excited about strength test.
Make two and we can plays some Assassins Creed IV.
Two guys made one
I think we can
@Wyatt Guilliams What makes you think I haven’t already?
Robert: makes weapon that kills people
Also Robert: doesn’t like making things that hurt people
I know there is a level of appeal when having a big man use his brute strength to test a sword buy slamming it as hard as possible against things.
The tester skills has no confidence good bye lol
7:53 looks like the hand gave more than the sword or the ice lol 🤣
Can't Win 'Em All... Thanks for Sharing
Doug punching a severed head. That was quite a moment.
As a welder, it makes me happy to see these guys utilizing different welding processes to create their weapons.
The dude that hit the blocks of ice definitely has some type of pent up anger issues
You would too if you had to look at a ridiculous colonel Sanders mustache in the mirror everyday.
Part I love of the strength test was the blade went, (
And came back to, |
And that was really satisfying to see
"I'm doing it all by hand-" yep, that's the guy I am rooting for. Every time.
the work put in the purple heart blade was overkeeeel
think the kids are going to wonder where their swim noodles are.
I love how confident these lads are!
The guy hurt himself by swinging the sword like an idiot.
It's his own fault. Funny how he waited till after he hurt himself to start listing off problems with the sword.
❄
Just tighten your handle bro! Sad to see that result, glad to hear he's gonna keep making blades. Godspeed and God bless.
"I'm gonna make it historically accurate as possible"
Minutes later:
"It's gonna be an Scottish backsword with an American touch."
*WELL, WHICH ONE IS IT THEN ?*
Doug is so iconic. He has such an interesting/relatable sense of humor.
“I hate causing pain to someone” says the guy who made a sword that just chopped the head off a human analog.
"I'm disappointed that something I made has hurt someone" sir you made a sword
