(I think she lost an arm or had it broken during the fight).
it was Jacen/Cedus who lost an arm at first encounter, and fuelled by dark side continue fighting (8th book). In 9th book, Jaina returns to finish the job and after ward admits that she would not make it if Jacen still had two arms and that he's last thought was one of light, when reaching out through the force to his daughter and her mother. So he sort of has a redemption arc a bit like Anakin after all.
This story is so much better than the Sequel trilogy. I won't lie, there was some weird Legends stuff, but this storyline in particular is just superior.
There was so much more to this story. I loved the passage that had Luke walk into Jaicen's office and throw him out of his chair ignoring Jaicen's defense with The Force and pretty much telling Jaicen not to f**k around with THIS bull, absolutely terrifying Jaicen who thought he was closer to Luke's strength than he was. Luke wouldn't let Ben train under Jaicen because he thought Jaicen was Dark, but Mara convinced Luke he was wrong and let Ben become his apprentice. Mara viewed Jaicen as a lifeline because Ben feared learning The Force because of Abaloth's corruption of Jedi when he was a child in hiding. Ben looked up to Jaicen and wanted to learn from him and Jaicen wanted Ben to be his Apprentice and getting him with the help of Mara also served to make it personal for Mara who defended Jaicen against Luke. Luke was absolutely crushed when they found Mara's body and she hadn't manifested to him as a Force Ghost, believing she was unable to join The Force
Jacen. &. Jaina The embodiment of the Twin Gods of Yuuzhan Vong mythology. Anyway,.. If I understood that passage right, Luke wasn’t even there. He either had projected himself on to someone else or had teleported. He was out in an X-wing flying cover for refugees that Jacen was pursuing. I remember thinking; “What?! How?!” That was part of what made Luke great. In his early days, absent of Jedi training resources, he sought out or ran into other Force using groups, learning some of their philosophies and abilities. Abilities that old Jedi Order had either long forgot or never knew. If I interpreted the scene right, then the sequels straight up ripped them off.
@@eds1942 I think you have two scenes mixed together, in OP Luke Flies to Jacen's Star Destroyer in his X-Wing and after landing walks to Jacen's office onboard. There's another scene where Luke is with Ben in a mine or something, and Jacen uses a technique that projects himself there and he uses illusions to make himself appear as someone/something else, he tries to kill Luke but Luke retaliates and almost kills Jacen but Jacen quickly stops using the technique before the killing blow lands and he is shook by how fast Luke's lightsaber skills are, etc...
@@zachsmith7836 I think you are right. I must have skipped a page of something. Because I was wondering what the heck happened as I was reading it and filled in the blanks. Because I the lead up to this. Luke had been retracing where Jacen might have picked up his philosophy and Force ability, since Luke had did similarly. And they had encountered another species that had the ability mixed with some tech that them the ability to position jump (fold), the Aing-Tii.
Technically Caedus did redeem himself at the very end, mid fight he paniced at the thought his lover and daughter were there and he went into protective mindset. Jaina saw it all and used that moment to make the hard decision. He may of still loved his own private family, but he was still a Sith, so she killed him. The only person to win was Boba Fett, who got to brake his arch enemy Solo's heart by making his kids kill each other. It was a shame that Anakin Solo never got to reach his mature years, he was far more powerful than his older siblings when it came to the force.

You have your facts a little mixed up. Jason didn't have the mantle of Caedus until after he killed Mara. Lumiya had been working with him but his final test before being allowed to join the Sith was he had to make a sacrifice. A sacrifice of somebody he loved. That is how every Sith becomes a Sith. They have to make a personal sacrifice. Vader had to kill Anakin and sacrifice the Jedi. Jason had to make that sacrifice as well. Originally I believe Lumiya wanted him to kill Ben but Jason refused, hoping to one day turn Ben into his Sith apprentice. He also didn't have much love left for his folks or Jaina at that time so those sacrifices wouldn't have been impactful enough. But Jason had always been close with Mara. Her murder is what fully pushed him into the dark and made him Caedus.
Thanks for covering this story. Yeah I always felt this was a rare Dark Side moment from Luke. This simplifies Mara finding out and making the choice to kill Jason. Mara made the choice to kill Jason because of the selfishness of being a Mother first. During the fight Jason was afraid of Mara because she wasn't using the Force but rather clever assassination trickery. The whole thing also gave us this weird dialogue about how Mara had never felt close to the Solo's anyways so she didn't really mind having to kill Jason. I felt that was odd since she was such a good Aunt during the NJO series and was one of the first family members to hug Jason when he got back from Vong space. But, whatever, different writers do different things I guess? lol yeah that trick with vanishing at the funeral really shocked me and made me think "Wow, Jason is so in trouble." when reading the novel for the first time. Edit I think I should point out that if memory serves Luke did fight Jason briefly while rescuing Ben from the Embrace of Pain. Luke was close to killing Jason without any real effort despite the Dark Lord's powers but refused when he foresaw that if he or Ben killed Jason then Ben would fall to the Dark Side and become an even more powerful Sith Lord than Jason. So Luke felt he did what Mara did and put his love for his son first. This vision was why he made Jaina slay her brother, something that weighed heavily on her afterwards.

I HATED that novel (Sacrifice). Written by Karen Traviss, a Star Wars writer who obviously hated Jedi and Sith, Force Users and The Force itself and who thought Mandalorians were the end all, be all in SW. She wrote Mara wildly out of character. Mara, who was a great Jedi Master in her own right and had long moved on from her days as a Hand decides to forget that, go full Emperor's assasin to kill her own nephew without telling her husband what she was doing, where she was going or even that she was leaving. Traviss basically had Luke asleep through most of that novel. Badly written end to a great character.
I love this, this book series was my first in the star wars universe, and I will never forget this. The scene where Luke goes after her, she knows she has no chance and like he said Luke basically just walked in and executed her. Such a badass moment where you finally get a taste of just how powerful he is. Anybody who hasn't read these i highly recommend. I mean Jaina even goes to train with Boba Fett to help prepare her for her fight with Caedus. So good!
One important note. Lumiya *wanted* Luke to target her instead of Jacen, before he was strong enough to face Luke. She willingly accepted Luke's challenge, revealed nothing about Mara's true killer, and was prepared to die if it meant Jacen would ascend even higher.
Luke became extremely saddened and depressed when he found out it was Jason, not angered at all. He still had imense love for Jason like a son, and was hearbroken that he would do such a thing.
I remember when I first saw previews for the new Disney trilogy. When I saw Kylo and Rey, I started hoping for a Jacen and Jaina story where Kylo falls to the dark side and Rey has to be the one that becomes the hero and saves the day. Sadly, they really screwed up any semblance of a good story.
The real tragedy is Disney not using this amazing lore, writing that GARBAGE they did and then lying and saying they had to source material for after Jedi to work with.
Jacen learned of this through a vision and later he was able to clear his way through future potentialities via an ability which he called “Flow Walking”, and some of what he did, he did to save his daughter. However, that scene where Luke confronted him was awesome in that, if I remember understood it right, Luke wasn’t even there. He was out in his X-Wing. And the sequels ripped that off. But they should’ve went further; making making Kylo more like Jacen and Rey more like his sister Jaina, And having the reason for why Luke made that fateful visit to a sleeping Ben all those years earlier and why he retreated into exile being in part due to loosing his love or wife and he had originally believed that Ben had something to do with that, and then making the reason for why he did not initially want to train Rey being that she was either Luke or Leia’s daughter and either being that he since he had failed with her brother and he would fail with her too or that he wanted to protect her from who ever killed his lover or because she had been particularly devastated by the lose of her mother and so he wiped the memory of her parents from her mind and sent her off into hiding as to have her away from him or something. I mean, if they have a personal issue with Mara Jade, it’s not like they don’t have other similar female characters in the new canon to fill that roll. Keira for instance. Make her Keira and after Luke meet her, they fell in love for a time, meanwhile her return had and her and Luke’s relationship drove a wedge between Han and Luke and Han and Leia, so he left.
And this is where Ben Solo came from. And the force ghost fight with his nephew. And where the female of similar age defeated the male antagonist. And if anyone would go to read the now legends book series, there are a whole ton of other "coincidences" between the new movie series and the books. Oh wait,Disney doesn't want you to know that...
I’ve always said it, this series was far better! Although you didn’t mention Ben‘s torture, Luke finding him on the star destroyer Then going absolutely ballistic at Jason!
The fact that this version of post Return of the Jedi exists is why I hate Disney star wars. There was something amazing laying out in front of them and they went nah
It's funny in a twisted sort of way. Disney decided to throw away thoughtful stories with compelling characters in favor of superficial ones and generally uninteresting ones. For over a decade, it pissed away the potential for billions of dollars that would dwarf peak MCEU in movies shows comics merchandise in the pursuit of an ideologically driven "message" that generations of fans, current and potential, are not as invested in compared to the success of the material which prompted Disney to buy Star Wars in the first place. Again. I'm not saying Disney hasn't made money: it has. But there is no denying the success of the IP based on storytelling over marketing an ideologically driven narrative.
I'd prefer this Legends canonicity over what we got the terrible joke that is Jake Milkdrinker and his Island of Rockhouses in TLJ and RoSW, at least here Luke is absurdly powerful and has a smoking hot wife
I remember reading how she died in the book Sacrifice. I was heartbroken. She was my favorite EU character. Jacen was right to be fearful of Luke coming for him next. His execution of Lumiya was just...cold.
This is how Disney should have done the story. Instead they got a bunch of ladies in a room, probably smoking bath salts thinking they got good ideas... and they really don't have a single good idea.

For me, this is what the sequel trilogy was meant to be. Kylo Ren= Jacen Solo, Rey= Jaina Solo. But Kathleen and Ryan listened to those 50 Shades/Twilight stans and tried to turn it into Reylo. That ended up derailing the entire trilogy.
So Luke an Mara were a Force Yin an Yang too of their Age.. Wouldn't see him being BRUTAL too much about executing her murderer. ESPECIALLY taking any kinda pleasure of it. As both his Mentors would a had quite a few things as well as most anyone remaining remembering an reminding him of just how bad THAT can be.
I remember reading all these books long ago, before the dark times, before the Empire (Disney) took over and good books that Star Wars had created were gone forever, consumed by the dark side.
Its too bad they made Jade to be so damaged so she is a toxic bpd type women. But it does make sense she was the Emperors hands so she had to be totally crazy.

To be honest Mara's death was kinda entirely Lumia's fault, I mean she didn't do the deed but she made Darth Caedus maybe she didn't deserve to be decapitated but......

It's so dumb that they keep killing of Jedi like this. Really wish they would have turned Jason back to the light side. Man, luckily there is Kaede otherwise this would have been super wack.
In a way he did revenge his wife. Since without her Jason would not have necessarily been able to kill the wife. After all did it not state that she made her see him as her son Ben. And that slip was what got her killed.

In 9th book, Jaina returns to finish the job and after ward admits that she would not make it if Jacen still had two arms and that he's last thought was one of light, when reaching out through the force to his daughter and her mother.
So he sort of has a redemption arc a bit like Anakin after all.
Darth Caedus was a powerful Sith Lord
The MOST powerfull Sith lord!
Jacen. &. Jaina
The embodiment of the Twin Gods of Yuuzhan Vong mythology.
Anyway,..
If I understood that passage right, Luke wasn’t even there. He either had projected himself on to someone else or had teleported. He was out in an X-wing flying cover for refugees that Jacen was pursuing. I remember thinking;
“What?! How?!”
That was part of what made Luke great.
If I remember the novel correctly Luke was of the opinion that in fight Mara would beat Jacen.
What you on about? He married Mara jade, she’s most known for being the mother of his kids
Disney could have made so much money if they just adapted the Legends novels into live action movies, yet it is too late.

This is what the sequel trilogy should have been.
I actually liked the sequels, minus last jedi, and this would've been better.
@@samuelbankston2108Not at the point the sequels were made. Age and time we're just not on our sides. The only way to incorporate it would be via flashback or recasting and something (Solo) tells me this fanbase has... issues with that.
Or you could enjoy what you enjoy, let other people enjoy what they enjoy, and not presume that you're the arbiter of what has value in story telling and what doesn't.
@grandpagohan1 I just meant they should've followed legends. I actually liked it ok but legends is frigging awesome.
@@ericthompson3982Despite your Disney Sequels bias (sloppily disguised as neutrality) the commentor you seem to take issue with has a point...as OVERWHELMINGLY most SW fans would have much preferred these legend characters they had been following for 20 years to grace the sequel films...not the copy cat "make it as you go along" sequel trilogy Disney gave us....rushed and increasingly bad.
The books were so good and Disney just messed it all up.
Feel for Luke I like his reaction from his Anakin side
He was fearful that he would have to kill his daughter or wife, and when he saw it was Mara, he thanked her.
Let’s face it, it makes Lumiya guilty by proxy
@@Tuturial464 it certainly does. She knew that Jason's sacrifice would hurt Luke on a much deeper level than anything she could ever do to him.
The sacrifice was of Ben’s love, Mara was just the catalyst….and if I recall correctly Caedus was never that afraid of Luke
Edit
I think I should point out that if memory serves Luke did fight Jason briefly while rescuing Ben from the Embrace of Pain.
The only 3 times luke Skywalker when all out without holding back was against emperor papaltine reborn exar kun and abeloth luke was always trying his hardest not to show his students his true power in fear they would crave power and fall to the dark side
He was Anakin’s opposite.
Imagine if he got his own Clone Wars style show- if Disney wasn’t trying so hard to destroy him.
@theguybehindyou4762 Disney writers can't do justice to luke Skywalker in the EU luke expend many years of training fighting extremely powerful siths like emperor papaltine reborn exar kun marka ragnos krueller

She mandalorian fan girl.
Luke version of the tuskin raiders but it’s one person
I remember when I first saw previews for the new Disney trilogy. When I saw Kylo and Rey, I started hoping for a Jacen and Jaina story where Kylo falls to the dark side and Rey has to be the one that becomes the hero and saves the day. Sadly, they really screwed up any semblance of a good story.
why did bro crashout
The real tragedy is Disney not using this amazing lore, writing that GARBAGE they did and then lying and saying they had to source material for after Jedi to work with.
Why? Why was this so hard for Disney to just go with it? They failed Starwars fans!
Just this video was a more interesting Luke story then the entire new “cannon”. Love this story line.
Dang it this makes me wanna read my EU books again. Luke could have killed Jacen so many times during this story
I wish the other Star Wars channeled listened to this. Luke Skywalker was the most powerful Jedi ever.

The way the mouse house torpedoed this is criminal
It's funny in a twisted sort of way.
Disney decided to throw away thoughtful stories with compelling characters in favor of superficial ones and generally uninteresting ones.
For over a decade, it pissed away the potential for billions of dollars that would dwarf peak MCEU in
movies
shows
comics
merchandise
in the pursuit of an ideologically driven "message" that generations of fans, current and potential, are not as invested in compared to the success of the material which prompted Disney to buy Star Wars in the first place.
Again. I'm not saying Disney hasn't made money:
it has.
But there is no denying the success of the IP based on storytelling over marketing an ideologically driven narrative.
The EU is the only sequel to Star Wars starting with Heir to the Empire and ending with Crucible.
I'd prefer this Legends canonicity over what we got the terrible joke that is Jake Milkdrinker and his Island of Rockhouses in TLJ and RoSW, at least here Luke is absurdly powerful and has a smoking hot wife
This legends story on Luke made me realize just how close he was at times to becoming another Vader.

Could you imagine a dark side legends Luke Skywalker??
So Luke an Mara were a Force Yin an Yang too of their Age..
Wouldn't see him being BRUTAL too much about executing her murderer. ESPECIALLY taking any kinda pleasure of it. As both his Mentors would a had quite a few things as well as most anyone remaining remembering an reminding him of just how bad THAT can be.
Some of the descriptions of events are...exaggerated from how this played out in the book.
The inaccuracy in video is staggering.
See, if Disney had used this storyline, they wouldn’t be in the situation they in now. With the fandom in highly divided camps, causing them profits.

It's so dumb that they keep killing of Jedi like this. Really wish they would have turned Jason back to the light side. Man, luckily there is Kaede otherwise this would have been super wack.
Mara Jade is my favorite character in Star Wars.
In a way he did revenge his wife. Since without her Jason would not have necessarily been able to kill the wife. After all did it not state that she made her see him as her son Ben. And that slip was what got her killed.
Really wish Mara Jade was cannon. A lot of what is legends is so much better than what we ended up getting with Disney Star Wars.
