Obi Wan was both in the wrong and right. He was in the wrong because he knew Luke would have to kill his father and didn’t want him to know this due to both his anger towards Anakin’s crimes but also cus he knew it probably would’ve gone smoother with Luke killing Vader without a problem. The reason he was in the right was cus he didn’t want to mess this up the way he and the Jedi did to Anakin.
Then Vader goes and says when luke call him Anakin "this name as no meaning for me" reducing the darkside to a double personality disorder and forcing obi-wan point of view. That is where star wars went wrong.
At first, I thought this didn't happen. But it was when you discussed that conversation Luke had with Exar Kun that I saw where you got that. Yes, he was surprised and demanded an explanation from Obi-Wan. But Obi-Wan took the time to explain everything that happened between him and Anakin. This was in the novelization of ROTJ. By the end of the conversation, Luke came to understand somewhat why Obi-Wan did what he did. He also knew that as an orphan, if he had heard that his father was truly alive, he would have wanted to see his father, regardless of who or what he was. But in my mind, that really didn't damage Luke. It was this: "I thought I could teach him just as well as Yoda. I was wrong." That statement lingered in Luke's mind for a very long time. His thoughts returned to that when he thought about teaching Jacen and Jaina the ways of the Force in the future during the Thrawn Trilogy. It haunted him in the Jedi Academy Trilogy. Considering what happened to Gantoris, Kyp, Desann, Brakiss, Dolph/Kueller, Jaina, and Jacen, you have to wonder if Luke felt he was truly ready to train others, or if he was the right person to train them. Kyp was able to help Jaina come back to the light, and the two came to understand one another. So in a way, Kyp was the right person to be Jaina's master after that disastrous mission to Myrkr.
Obi-Wan was in a tough situation whether he told the truth or told his point of view. The beef I have with him is sacrificing his mortal self on the death star to become a force ghost at the time he did. Vader was the biggest threat to Luke's party and Obi-Wan's sacrifice at that moment could have backfired to where Vader could have gotten over his emotions and quickly force-pulled the Falchon back into the space station, or worse, into it's destruction. He would have been better off using force telepathy to convince Luke to leave without him and lured Darth Vader away, by the time the ship powers up and leaves it will be too late for everyone to stop them from escaping. Then of course there's the whole idea of sacrificing one's corporeal self to become some kind of incorporeal being, while the powers gained from this process may be unique, I would argue far too much power is lost from one's corporeal form, and Obi-Wan was still very capable even with his age and setbacks.
The Force seems balance between the light and the dark. The more followers one side has the more spread out their power becomes. This is part of what made the rule of two so successful. If there are a hundred Jedi of near equal power but only two Sith each Sith could be fifty times as powerful as each Jedi. Now there are other force users unaffiliated with either who affect this balance, but in a general sense the less followers one side has the more powerful each individual follower becomes. When Obi Wan sacrificed himself most of his power would be added to Luke's potential, allowing him to grow powerful enough to face the emperor and Vader. Obi Wan was past his prime, and didn't have the potential that Luke did through his lineage. So passing on to give some of his power to Luke was a better option than the two trying to face the dark lords together.

This is the weapon of the Jedi Knight (which each Jedi is supposed to make for themselves, rather than inherit)." Honestly, George made things a lot worse with the prequels, because Obi-Wan came across as a manipulative liar.
And say the prequels never existed past episode 6 and they were only ever referenced as in films 4-6. Do you think that would change anything? Obi wan still lied about Vaders identity, still lied about his motives, still lied about his very name, placed him in a family where he knows they will lie to him and keep the lie he is telling for their entire lives over risk of the loss of jedi protection and or blackmail as if the empire knew Skywalker was on the planet it would he destroyed. Literally he has always been manipulative. It's a war, not a day care.
He literally took Luke for three reasons. One because he might die and that would mean one less potential jedi. Two because he needs to make sure Vader dosent obtain a new apprentice and that all possible assets are to the jedi and 3 to make sure there isn't a Vader 2.0 He literally was watching Luke to make sure he didn't do evil things, while also not being able to kill him as a baby due to the force and the imbalances that would cause
@@dxublexxsplicitxxsplicit4943 - All invalid excuses because they greatly magnified the risk by giving Luke to a couple of muggles who had no intention of EVER allowing Luke to be trained as a Jedi. One thing that strikes me in retrospect is that Obi-Wan didn't stop Luke from going back to the farm because he knew, through the Force, that Owen and Beru had already been killed by Imperial troops. Which suited him just fine. If Anakin had been considered "too old" by the Council such that they only grudgingly allowed him to be trained, Luke was a decade older! Looking forward to that Gantoris video I LOVE the Jedi Academy Trilogy one of my all time favorite EU books it introduces Kyp Durron my second favorite Jedi of all time as well as the spirit of Exar Kun to be his Dark Side mentor being that Tales of the Jedi Dark Horse Comics were too among my favorite EU stories up there and Exar Kun being my top 4 favorite Sith Lords of all time he truly stands out as a real threat there have been lots of Tales From The Jedi callbacks in Dark Empire Trilogy with Leia learning Battle Meditation from a Holocron from Nomi Sunrider, Luke’s plan to destroy Reborn Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious and the Dark Side mirroring the same way Ulic Qel Droma attempted to, Vima Da Boda being the the great descendant of Nomi and Vima Sunrider I always appreciated these things and now Exar Kun making his monstrous appearance in the Jedi Academy Trilogy manipulating one of the best Jedi in Galactic History for me in Kyp Durron and making Luke Skywalker’s life a living hell with Luke’s first failures as a Jedi Master in Gantoris a promising Jedi prodigy incinerated even along with the I, Jedi book you see Luke truly question himself if he can even be a Jedi Master let alone create a Jedi Order cements why I love this story.
I think Obiwan was more in the right than wrong. Ben knowing how Luke and Anakin were alike, the thought that Luke discovering who Vader was, would probably make him make a hasty and foolish attempt to save Anakin earlier. I also think that Obiwan knew that it was impossible to save Anakin from Vader, in the naive sense of fully bringing him to the light side (spiritually and physically). That is my hypothesis, that by killing Vader, while saving his soul, was the only way to bring Anakin back from the Dark Side. And this might be another layer of sorrow that Obiwan didn't want Luke to bear while facing this already challenging task.
I would be angry for a time at Obi-wan but I would forgive much sooner than Luke for in someways Obi-wan was right to tell the true way he did for it was 100% true in a way
Since this is from before the Kenobi series I think Luke's being a little selfish and a bit unfair to Obi Wan. Anakin was his former Padawan, his friend, his brother and he betrayed everything they had stood for and fallen so far, killed so many. The sorrow, guilt, and confusion that anyone would feel in that situation, even a Jedi would have trouble shaking it off if they even could.
Obi wan looked out for anakin way more than people give him credit for. I feel Obi Wan neber turned his back on Anakin Or Vader actually. In the end he showed him how to become a force ghost and looked after and taught Luke and Leia
Lets say you lived in an area like this and all you ever did for several decades and all you ever did was sweep all your dust over into the corner and never picked it up , how large would that dust pile be ?
As someone who struggled with being adopted and never knowing my birthparents, I would have been absolutely furious with Kenobi, and probably would have taken vaders hand on bespin. Kenobi played a very dangerous game of deception, and put the whole galaxy at risk AGAIN.
My adopted mother read a note meant for my bio mother, never sent it so I thought I got ignored, years later, I messaged her again just to get ignored so I forgave my mom cuz I doubt it would have made a difference in the big picture.
I'd be angry, I've dealt with betrayal like this in the past, however, one can hate a person for doing such a thing, while loving them still. The resentment and hate is a valid response, yet it should not overwhelm your view of that person, if one knows the reason behind their actions it'll be easier to understand it. To not let that ruin your view of a person, because even if we mean well, we can fail on it, and lead us down a dark path that would make a person hate us. Luke was not wrong for being resentful towards Obi-Wan, it's just natural for that, but knowing Obi-Wan tried to shield him from the psychological torment of Vader being his father could help on easing that as well. As flawed as the actions was, the reason behind his actions was valid and logical. If he had told Luke too early, it might've gone horribly wrong, but he should've left something behind for Luke, to explain his reasoning behind his actions.
It was entirely possible for him to turn to the Darkside based off that lie, he found out before he mastered his emotion. Obi-Wan trolled till the moment he passed into the force, and even that was a troll to Vader😂
Just through meeting Yoda & Obi-Wan Alone Luke Skywalker saw how bad the Bullsh*t was with how them old school Jedi used to operate as people 🤣🤷🏾♂️✅ That’s why I respect Luke’s Jedi ways over that old school clone wars / high republic nonsense jedi order any day of the week …
just kinda rude and unnecessary to lie about it. he knew luke was going to find out eventually, and Luke had already been lied to a bunch by his most trusted caretakers. also insulting, since it implies he thought luke was too weak minded to do whats necessary. from Luke's perspective, it probably felt like obi wan lied to get him to kill his father eithout mercy out of his own guilt that he couldnt himself. which is true, from a certain point of view.
the uncles lie is defenitly more forgivable, any sympathy with the jedi was dangerous and potential deadly not only for luke but for his aunt and uncle to. if the wrong person heard it things would be bad. just someone hearing him beeing a son of a jedi could be bad and once it reached the empire, if twisted the wrong way it would sound like a jedi was in hiding there and that will be bad.
Honestly I'm not surprised and if I'm being honest hell no would i forgive obi whale for being so shameless in his lie about his father but I will say also that his response to Luke is what I would expect from a person who doesn't want to man up wear his big boy pants and say I'm sorry Luke I'm partly to blame for your father's falling to darkness
Are you kidding me? EU!Luke didn't forgive Obi Wan either. Y'all trying to find any way to hate on Disney!Luke. Get over yourself You would know that if you read the eu books
"You'll find the very truths we cling to, depend greatly on our own point of view" Obi Wan definitely had a deep knowledge on all things. I get why Luke feels the way he does about this, but Obi Wan was not wrong.
To be fair to Obi wan never lied…he just never said that Darth Vader was his father…n it’s obvious cuz he thought it would bring out more emotion during combat n make same mistakes that Anakin made. Again Obi wan said that Vader was an apprentice of his which was true n that he betrayed n murdered Anakin, which to Obi wan, he really believed that Vader n Obi wan were two different people at this point in the saga, he thought Anakin was so far gone that he couldn’t be brought back, n u can’t blame him, especially knowing most of what happened was his fault. He never said to Luke that Vader wasn’t his father, Luke never asked nor would Obi wan tell unless he found out. A big theme with the force and jedis in the movies is that they have to figure the answer for themselves and help use the force to reveal things as reality. Whenever they can’t face the facts of life n reality n they try to take matter in their own hands, that’s when it creates their downfall. By being patient, letting the force n Vader reveal to Luke that he’s his father, took that emotional baggage out of the equation in the first duel, Vader was just stronger…it was obi wans n yodas guidance to Luke once Luke found out the truth that helped Luke overcome his emotions to kill Vader n the emperor in episode 6. To be fair to Luke tho, both yoda n Obi wan didn’t think Anakin could be redeemed, n they thought Luke was the chosen one when it was Anakin the whole time.

I'd be angry and forgive but, when a lot of those close to you do this sort thing or the same person continues doing it, it becomes near impossible to forgive or trust, ever again.
It’s was Part of the Hero’s journey yo !
Word...
First like!👍
Awesome video!🤘
Keep up the awesome work!🤘😎🤘
Wow!
Yes he did. He was fully at peace for sure by 9ABY
@sammyhain I do recognize it ultimately doesn't matter now that I'm older and have come to terms with it. But thanks for sharing your story. 🙏
“Obi-Wan never told you what happen to your father.” - Darth Vader
I love how SURE Vader was that Obi wan would lie to luke or not tell him the truth. He knew his old master like that.
It was entirely possible for him to turn to the Darkside based off that lie, he found out before he mastered his emotion.
Obi-Wan trolled till the moment he passed into the force, and even that was a troll to Vader😂
Just through meeting Yoda & Obi-Wan Alone Luke Skywalker saw how bad the Bullsh*t was with how them old school Jedi used to operate as people 🤣🤷🏾♂️✅
That’s why I respect Luke’s Jedi ways over that old school clone wars / high republic nonsense jedi order any day of the week …
Luke can forgive him,he is the Obi Wan Kenobi after all.🤔
(Despite”Vader”hadn’t forgave Kenobi for a long time.)
So much for moral higher ground
just kinda rude and unnecessary to lie about it. he knew luke was going to find out eventually, and Luke had already been lied to a bunch by his most trusted caretakers. also insulting, since it implies he thought luke was too weak minded to do whats necessary. from Luke's perspective, it probably felt like obi wan lied to get him to kill his father eithout mercy out of his own guilt that he couldnt himself. which is true, from a certain point of view.
the uncles lie is defenitly more forgivable, any sympathy with the jedi was dangerous and potential deadly not only for luke but for his aunt and uncle to. if the wrong person heard it things would be bad. just someone hearing him beeing a son of a jedi could be bad and once it reached the empire, if twisted the wrong way it would sound like a jedi was in hiding there and that will be bad.
I'd be pissed for a while, but I'd let that shit go.
Seems fair.
To be fair, Obi Wan made a looot of mistakes
Following orders and watching early
Honestly I'm not surprised and if I'm being honest hell no would i forgive obi whale for being so shameless in his lie about his father but I will say also that his response to Luke is what I would expect from a person who doesn't want to man up wear his big boy pants and say I'm sorry Luke I'm partly to blame for your father's falling to darkness
“I hate you!!” - Luke Skywalker maybe
He didnt lie to him though. Vader did consume Anakin and basically did kill him. By all accounts Anakin was seduced and buried deep down.
Do we have to continue to use Disney Star Wars footage in videos? Let’s not mix cannon with fan fiction of the worst variety
I literally just seen thumbnail for video about how Luke forgave Obama for lying so I'm confused lol
Day 690 of asking for a part 3 of what if anakin was trained by qui gon
"The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force" darth vader
😁
under an hour gang
Old EU was so much better
STUPID ADS
I think he meant metaphorically but Luke is kinda dumb lmao
Disney Luke is so badly written. They write him like a man-child. Legends makes a lot of mistakes as well.
Are you kidding me? EU!Luke didn't forgive Obi Wan either. Y'all trying to find any way to hate on Disney!Luke. Get over yourself
You would know that if you read the eu books
@whateverwhatever4476 like I said, legends wasn't much better.
Dang I’m early
"You'll find the very truths we cling to, depend greatly on our own point of view"
Obi Wan definitely had a deep knowledge on all things. I get why Luke feels the way he does about this, but Obi Wan was not wrong.
According to the Kenobi show - Vader DID tell Obi-Wan that HE Killed Anakin not Obi-Wan. Luke like Anakin was a whiny tight ass brat.
I saw the original trilogy in theaters when they were first released. I always thought Obi-Wan was a jerk for lying.
Luke was right to never forgive Obi-Wan from a certain point of view.
