@@kuunt6065that's not entirely accurate, the Jedi of the high republic, during the time of the Mandolorian War and the Jedi Civil war, about 10k years before Yoda and the Old Republic, the Jedi actually lived much like that. the reason why the jedi became so much in denial of all emotions even ones like love is because during one conflict a jedi master's wife/girlfriend or such ended up joining the other side which broke his heart so he decided to essentially take his heartbreak out on everyone else by encouraging the jedi to ban marriage and such
@NastyCodeine Maybe - but I suspect that at that point it was all just a bit too late, and the Jedi couldn't really reform without a disaster forcing them to.
Luke's version of "detachment" sounds a lot more like (according to my very limited understanding) Zen, while Yoda's "detachment" seems more like the Stoicism of Marcus Aurelius ("imagine every day that everyone you love might die tomorrow" kind of thing).
More like: Yoda prequels: Theravada Buddhism, Yoda Epis. 5 and maybe after that: Zen/ Daoism, he makes jokes and so on, not so serious like in the prequels Luke could be Stoicism maybe, relationships are there very important/essential, detachment more from things and situations where you have no power over (past, life/dead, other beings behaviour / fate ) and the "force" is the "logos" maybe a little bit Epicureanism, but they (Epicureans) have no "force" other than atoms /compounds and their movements (natural forces ? ) and void, and are more open to feelings /Emotions which don´t lead to negative consequences. @@matthiasengel3439 actually this is pretty spot on. The old jedi have similar beliefs to the stereotypical/misinterpreted stoicism or what many people think stoicism is, supressing emotions and neglecting relationships. Luke's view is more similar to actual stoicism; he embraces his feelings, making him free to respond rather than to react. Unlike Anakin, he embraces the force (or the fate) by accepting the fact that he can't change it's will, which makes him capable of just being a vehicle of the force.
And, the interesting thing about M. Aurelius is that he was a total opium fiend, who ended up taking doses large enough to tranquillise a horse!! Easy to be stoic when you are slightly bombed out if your body and mind.😉😁

Did Yoda get the Jedi Code wrong? Yeah, he got it wrong. 'Do or do not' is great advice-if you’re a 900-year-old swamp hermit with no friends. Meanwhile, Anakin’s like, Maybe if I could try not to kill everyone, I wouldn’t be the galaxy’s biggest disaster.'
What he meant wasn't that things are easy, but that when you "try," you take comfort in the idea that failure is okay, which prevents you from giving your best effort. His problem wasn't his age, but his lack of communication skills. He had centuries to distill his philosophies into concise wisdom, but a much younger student can't possibly grasp these cryptic statements fully. And even though this frustrates me, it does so in a good way: it makes him feel more believable as a person - he may be enlightened, but still not unfailable.

I have a slightly different take on it. And feel free to disagree, but, in my mind the version of Luke that we see in the sequels, didn’t have the robust support system that legends Luke did. He is trying to restore an entire order of Jedi without, those linchpin students like Corran Horn and Tionne. He tries to train his only nephew and kinda fails at it. Others, like Lando and Chewie are presumably not around (to offer outside perspectives and support) nearly as much as they were in legend’s. Over the last week this is the 4th time I have heard RUclipsrs say "EU" instead of "Legends"... I think Disney's death grip on the narrative if finally slipping.
Not spending years of his youth being indoctrinated in the Old Republic's Jedi's code of conduct, Luke combined Yoda's teachings and his real life experience to understand that it is not how you fight that counts but what you are fighting for. And that requires and emotional attachment.
I believe the way of the old Jedi about living without possessing is kind of what Revan is like being a man of both the dark and the light in true balance
Yoda inherited the role as Grand Master of an already established order… I don’t think Yoda got it wrong, he just couldn’t do anything to alter the Order bc he’d be going against their long standing tradition…. that has worked up until order 66
if you know anything about jedi history, it really, really hadn't. it was just coincidental that around the time Yoda got in charge, the sith had nearly destroyed themselves through civil war and had to go into hiding. the jedi were actually losing to the sith at the time, and so the sith turned on each other. consistently the Jedi's greatest threats came from themselves being too close minded or inflexible and driving troubled members away without any attempt to compromise or help them- exar kun, revan, vitiate, Vader, so many others. there was no real reason to assume that the jedi finally got it right other than complacency due to the sith being missing. if Yoda was half asleep knowledgeable and wise as he acts, he'd know damn well that strict, extreme adherence to the code, especially a very close minded interpretation of the code, would not work out well long term.
It’s like you explain it how my mind thinks it. I absolutely love your insight and the depth you put into your videos and your appreciation for the EU. I’ve read so many of the old books and you just bring me back the feelings I’ve had reading them. THANK YOU!
Lukes jedi code: ✅️ Clone wars jedi code: ❌️ Edit: The clone wars jedi should have known better. Not trusting anakin and treating him like shit all of his time in the jedi order doomed their fated and palpatine was one of the few people who trusted him. Luke saw the flaws in the jedi of the Clone Wars and sought to fix the mistakes they had made, and he did.
All of the old new republic Jedi Code problems can be traced back to Yoda's Jedi master: a catwoman who wasn't even a master when the Valley of the Jedi Thought Bomb incident happened that wiped out all of the wise jedi masters and left her and the padawans alive. She wasn't even a Knight entirely yet in EU, so all of the Jedi's Problems in the New Republic can be traced back to her.
I really love this. Being into spirituality and understanding aspects of it such as astral projection, spiritual realms, consciousness/the soul, this all completely make sense. As I see it detachment from relationships leads one into the dark side as this actually leads to a disconnect from the force.
It was very important to luke that the his jedi be completely detached from the new republic, then galactic alliance. He saw that as a fault of the old republic. They were too entwined with the the 'republic' that they're fates were joined.
I’m with Luke idea of the Jedi code while Yoda Jedi code had work in his time but in the prequels the signs was showing that needed to adapt the times.
Loved your explanation on detachment. Clone wars Yoda missed it completely. There's is no passion there is serenity. It's all about balance. The difference between the two are on a spectrum - choose one over the other without denying either. I'm left-handed. That doesn't mean deny my right hand. Yoda taught denial of one for the other. In reality, passion is needed, but serenity is the guiding influence. Apply that to the entire Jedi code and we get Lucas' force.
That's the *modern* code. But not the original. The original was a set of paradoxical koans. Emotion, yet peace. Ignorance, yet knowledge Passion, yet serenity. Chaos, yet harmony. Death, yet the Force. It's about balance not denial. But the Jedi became a political force and prioritized growth for a while. But they got too big, and more members of the order struggled to find balance. And with so many falling so close together, they EDITED THE CODE. They made it a tool of control, not enlightenment.
First video I’ve ever watched of yours. Really enjoying 4:36 Some of the most universal and deepest thoughts on who we are and why we are here. What does it mean to live a good life are in Star Wars. Ironically these were the exact problems I had with Yoda. I’m in agreement with Luke here. Love is the greatest power in the universe. Compassion, wisdom, living in oneness. Sophia in Gnostic. Or the right hemisphere. I resonate with this statement. Each of us should write our own gospel. Live our own myth.
This is the reason Grandmaster Luke is the ultimate Grey Jedi. The sith allow all kinds of attachments, in a variety of ways. It's just that pure love can give you great perspective on the pure Force
10:27-10:44... As a paraplegic man this lesson is very powerful, physical limitations can be a problem but if you learn you can surpass your limitations..
It's odd, then, that said Kenobi, fighting Grievous, couldn't maintain that pattern when he fought Anakin? It's obvious that Vader couldn't do this; he was way to certain of his own importance in how HIS power worked, so maybe the fight should have been more in his favor...or I guess maybe this was how he stood up to Anakin's superior strength, speed, and offense.
interesting how Lukes views on attachment tended to fall into a very similar vain as the middles path taught by Siddhartha Gupta aka Buddha in the end. Great vid thanks for making 🙏
"I have no attachment....I have no passion..... I have no emotions....I am the Force personified....I am nothing....I am void...and everything returns to the Void...and emptiness." -- Darth Nihillus ... probably 😂
0:15 in the movie, it looked like Yoda just bumped the guards against the wall...i think he crushed their hearts at the same time, i doubt they're unconscious lol
I seriously thought the title "The Last Jedi" was referring to Luke ending the Jedi as the were. Maybe something along the lines of Grey Jedi or a mix between "The Ones" and "Je'daii". Not the actual Jedi as a whole. I didn't think it would exactly that but something like it. After which I couldn't even bring myself to see the third film. Up to this point in my life the most disappointed in a movie was Godzilla 1985, there were only 2 of us in the theater. I now realize it could have been a whole lot worse.
Since Yoda outlived everyone else on the Council, maybe he changed the Jedi code to be more strict because of the hubris of Jedi of the past. Luke would never know whether Yoda did such a thing or not.
He didn't change it so much as refused to let it change and adapt. Yoda was determined to make sure the Jedi he trained were like the ones who trained him, never considering that in the hundreds of years he was the leader that the republic and galaxy at large had changed and needed a new type of Jedi.
There is passionate love and there is compassionate love. Compassion is what motivates us to help others, it gives us empathy, it is the path to harmony, it brings us inner peace and creates a bond amongst people. I believe that compassion is the key to achieving a state of true humanity. Benightment if you will.
So to summarize: We took the lessons from Avatar -The Last Airbender when Ang was training how to control the Avatar state. Is that a fair assesment? I'm in agreement as to what was said, but everything he said reminded me of this.
Great discussion and very insightful knowledge of the Jedi code, I have a little more respect for the jedi code now, I was never to fond of it but I like Luke's understanding of thecode.
Yoda cast aside emotion, to emote is to live, the Force is life itself. It is only natural the old jedi would fail as they were taught to discard what made them alive.
Old Jedi by Yoda = Emotionless, Dogmatic, Detatched from Humanity rather than the Physical New Jedi = Love, Compassion, Connection to the Force, Detachment from Limitation Sith/Dark Side Practitioners = Hatred, Vengeance, Obsession, A Greed for more power
...if you follow some of the weirder books, the no family no attachment... is because of an era of Jedi Dynasties... and let's just say it caused all sorts of issues. :)
I think Luke would have turned Sith or at least threw the Jedi philosophies away if he would have stayed and Han,Leia ,Chewbacca and 3PO were killed as a result. That would have seriously pissed him off
Jedi are guardians of peace in the galaxy. Jedi use their powers to defend and to protect. Jedi respect all life, in any form. Jedi serve others rather than ruling over them, for the good of the galaxy. Jedi seek to improve themselves through knowledge and training.
True detachment as Luke found is great and all, however, learning and teaching how to actually deal with fear and its related emotions, including the need to ride out and experience love in a healthy and skilled manner as a Jedi is even more important.

I think Luke was right to teach his Jedi like the way he did for Yoda took the code too far, Revan proved that positive emotion can make a Jedi stronger in the light side but they need to temper it with some retain and mindfulness so they won’t be blinded by them
A 1 minute 30 seconds unskippable ad... *Sigh* Well, the video itself is good, as usual. I always thought that this particular part of the jedi code was insane, now I know it was just misunderstood.
Quoting the original Star Wars Expanded universe lore! Wooo!! 😀 Obi-Wan stated that the Force is produced by life. Now wouldn't it make more sense for those who declare they are following the Will of the Force to in turn have offspring themselves contributing more into the Force creating more life?

"to have but not hold"
If you love something, let it be
Must let people go when they die, except when they become force gohsts, then it's highly encouraged to reconnect and learn from them :D.
It’s like you explain it how my mind thinks it. I absolutely love your insight and the depth you put into your videos and your appreciation for the EU. I’ve read so many of the old books and you just bring me back the feelings I’ve had reading them. THANK YOU!
Lukes jedi code: ✅️
Clone wars jedi code: ❌️
Edit: The clone wars jedi should have known better.
@@Bitterman5868 exactly
@@Bitterman5868 Jedi thought bomb?
Well "There is no death there is only Force... And it has a plan" (And Darth Marr hated and loathed that!)
I guess it works if you only indoctrinate small children and don't have to work with normal people without stunted emotional development.
Emotions are not good or bad, they are natural. What you do or don’t do with them is what matters. Like everything else in life it’s a balance.
That's the *modern* code. But not the original. The original was a set of paradoxical koans.
Emotion, yet peace.
Ignorance, yet knowledge
Passion, yet serenity.
Really enjoying 4:36
Some of the most universal and deepest thoughts on who we are and why we are here.
True Jedi not gray Jedi buddy the sequel trilogy version is more like that
Excellent video
Thanos would have to snap 20 times to get rid of you.
"no need for a plan or use for tactics". I think obi wan just predicted what gravious was going to do, ahead of time since he knows him so well.
10:27-10:44... As a paraplegic man this lesson is very powerful, physical limitations can be a problem but if you learn you can surpass your limitations..
I want to see this version of Luke and with his wisdom to time traveling back to the clone wars.
2:40 it draws parallels to the two interpretations of The Mantle of Responsibility in Halo
10:28 attachment to attachments is also a limitation
"I have no attachment....I have no passion..... I have no emotions....I am the Force personified....I am nothing....I am void...and everything returns to the Void...and emptiness."
-- Darth Nihillus ... probably 😂
This was an awsome video dude 👍👍
Thank you! I appreciate the time you spent to say that!
0:15 in the movie, it looked like Yoda just bumped the guards against the wall...i think he crushed their hearts at the same time, i doubt they're unconscious lol
I seriously thought the title "The Last Jedi" was referring to Luke ending the Jedi as the were. Maybe something along the lines
of Grey Jedi or a mix between "The Ones" and "Je'daii". Not the actual Jedi as a whole. I didn't think it would exactly that but
something like it. After which I couldn't even bring myself to see the third film. Up to this point in my life the most disappointed
in a movie was Godzilla 1985, there were only 2 of us in the theater. I now realize it could have been a whole lot worse.
It’s cool, just handle attachment like Ki-Adi did! That went fiiiiiiine.
This was a beautiful video
Luke proves Kreia right once again to have an ideal, is to willing to betray it
Let’s go another Luke video man love em
We were robbed of a great Luke story in this new trilogy.
yoo that was cool asf man. nice work SW
The original Jedi Order failed, it became…inhuman with unrealistic expectations and failures at the very top. Luke changed everything for the better.
Good soldiers watch early
Disney+ Needs to see this before they write another thing.........
Truly impressive!
Honestly I've always preferred the a yet B version of the Jedi code, it gives a lot more flexibility for interpretation and understanding
Yoda cast aside emotion, to emote is to live, the Force is life itself.
It is only natural the old jedi would fail as they were taught to discard what made them alive.
I will love to join Luke Skywalker new Jedi order
Old Jedi by Yoda = Emotionless, Dogmatic, Detatched from Humanity rather than the Physical
New Jedi = Love, Compassion, Connection to the Force, Detachment from Limitation
Sith/Dark Side Practitioners = Hatred, Vengeance, Obsession, A Greed for more power
...if you follow some of the weirder books, the no family no attachment... is because of an era of Jedi Dynasties... and let's just say it caused all sorts of issues. :)
I think Luke would have turned Sith or at least threw the Jedi philosophies away if he would have stayed and Han,Leia ,Chewbacca and 3PO were killed as a result. That would have seriously pissed him off
Luke skywaler is the man, what a legend.
Jedi are guardians of peace in the galaxy. Jedi use their powers to defend and to protect. Jedi respect all life, in any form. Jedi serve others rather than ruling over them, for the good of the galaxy. Jedi seek to improve themselves through knowledge and training.
from a certain point of view
The EU is poetic and made sense, worthy to be canonical.
The opposite of the Disney canon
It seems like Luke just took Yoda's teachings / code to the next logical conclusion, kind of like Plato did with Socrates
True detachment as Luke found is great and all, however, learning and teaching how to actually deal with fear and its related emotions, including the need to ride out and experience love in a healthy and skilled manner as a Jedi is even more important.
Wow this really explained the force for me thanks my friend i learned to really let go of atachment to my loved ones and love as a human right way forgive myself mistakes and let go of his hate anger fear that he gaved me its not my i confronted my shadow i realy think that Lucas hiden in ultimate way to live just fuse sith and jedi ideologies and will be unstopable. This morning on way to school my hood was on my face so i didnt see and diidnt heard fuly noises outside so i started meditating i was fully focused so when we arived i didnt noticed driver telled so we are here. Starwars saved my life
I think Luke was right to teach his Jedi like the way he did for Yoda took the code too far, Revan proved that positive emotion can make a Jedi stronger in the light side but they need to temper it with some retain and mindfulness so they won’t be blinded by them
Yoda knew they were short on time so he gave Luke the speedrun version! lol If I recall, Yoda had a wife right?
Like!👍
Awesome video!🤘
Keep up the awesome work!🤘😎🤘
Luke wasn’t just a visionary or the son of the chosen one he was the perfect and best grand master of the Jedi order’s history
Lukes my boy!
A 1 minute 30 seconds unskippable ad... *Sigh*
Well, the video itself is good, as usual. I always thought that this particular part of the jedi code was insane, now I know it was just misunderstood.
Ep 3 was Obi-Wans moment
Hello there!
✨Sensational….better than Sarvapriyananda ✅
almost sounds like ultra instinct.
Nice video
Quoting the original Star Wars Expanded universe lore! Wooo!! 😀 Obi-Wan stated that the Force is produced by life. Now wouldn't it make more sense for those who declare they are following the Will of the Force to in turn have offspring themselves contributing more into the Force creating more life?
This is why luke is my favorite
What was the game with Luke shown here?
the stupendous wave Did you know my birthday is today? I turned 25 and I was thinking. From a Star Wars fan to a Star Wars RUclipsr you could give me a gift a present? Make a video of Anakin Skywalker the God of the force. You made ones about him, but this one is really special. a favor besides we want you to tell us what you think is going to happen when? We see him again in the next season of Ahsoka. Please bro. That would be so great.
If we're to go by the metachlorians explanation, more powerful Jedi would naturally cone from 2 Jedi procreating together 🤷♂️
