It's such a shame it's so horrifically unbalanced, bc a 'more creatures + bestiary + bestiary updates via interacting with creatures' mod is the kind of thing I love, but every experience I've had with Lycanites has been a bad one. It's managed to singlehandedly ruin otherwise promising modpacks for me bc I can't fucking _do anything_
I'm somehow not surprised that the mod responsible for all those aesthetically unpleasant mobs everywhere is the same one that keeps randomly spawning deadly monsters whenever you have the GALL to break a block
Yeah. Considering the Factorio/Cookie Clicker vibes of 99% of popular Minecraft modpacks, I am not surprised that hardcore RLCraft is an even slower process than literally starting with nothing in GregTech
I get the distinct impression that Lycanite comes from that era of Minecraft modding where everyone was trying to get the same core gameplay experience as "Ark: Survival Evolved with all the difficulty sliders turned up and no QoL mods". May your sanity last longer than mine would, intrepid honkbird.
Lycanites has, at least, been around singe the 1.7 days of Minecraft modding. the worst part about the mod is the fact that, as painful as it is, the dev will not stop keeping it updated. The mod will never die, and will keep being more legos in our socks.
The funniest part is that Lycanite's is completely configurable lmao It's fine for me in most of my personal worlds, but if you cannot reconfigure it in a modpack (like removing things killing you once you mine 1 coal ore), I can only assume it will be _hell_ . Good luck
My reccomendation for an easier/different/more "fun" experience: turn on some gravestone mods, and dont play the modpack where anything dealing four (4) damage one shots you 1/6th of the time as it hit the head (or was that an earlier version?) on HARDCORE mode, preferably have one of those mods that just lets you teleport to the thing, fuck it I'd even vouch for keep inventory while you figure things out, and dont be afraid to restart a couple times in order to get more game knowledge, with respawns on you will get hit with seasonality and difficulty progression (game gets harder over time 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂), winter fucks hard, and nether progression is not an option, its a necessity. Goose could have very easily done all the prep he could have and just _not_ ever come across any diamond (as i often do), though his playstyle of never staying in one place by being a nomad helps him find it, so it honestly might be optimal. Like the toolbelt thing for modifiers? Never even thought about it, I wonder how many packbacks you can horde? Etcetera, the pack WANTS you to stack buffs and try to break it, because otherwise a single dragon particle effect from just beyond render distance will bring your fps to 5 as it replaces 600 blocks and one taps you as it won the lottery. Most importantly: do what you can to have fun, its your game
Lycanite mobs: “ok what if, when the player does ___, there is a 5% chance it summons a golorotron that does 400 unavoidable damage and melts your home into dirt. Would be REALLY funny for youtube viewers but an actual migraine for everyone else.”
The "Would be REALLY funny for youtube viewers" part bites it hard in the ass here because i REALLY wanted to see goose take on RLcraft, his way of narration wouldve added a little something I've found lacking in other lets plays
Good to see Lycanite hasn't really changed since he first entered the scene back in the day. I chatted with him back when he'd only implemented five mobs, and suggested that he try to better fit them to the blocky aesthetic of the game since they stuck out like a sore thumb. His only response was that he was using Blender, so it was too hard, as if you somehow can't make squares in Blender. Mind, one of the five mobs implemented at the time was a zombie reskin that was itself made of blocks. I liked seeing someone show appreciation for Oddworld critters, but the way he seems to deliberately clash with established wisdom rubs me the wrong way.
There are modpacks I've downloaded where I thought "wow, that's a pretty cool description! I'll try it out." Then I make some wooden tools, mine some coal, get ganked by that lycanites rock elemental thing, and immediately uninstall and delete the pack. I play games to have fun, goddammit, not to get jumpscared while interacting with a relaxing game's core mechanics.
I can't wait for the inevitable 100th episode and/or 1 year anniversary of both of these series, the amount of joy I get when watching this goose play the block game and commentate over it is AMAZING
Dragons can be heard and seen from far away, Lycanites is the ONLY reason didn't carry trough with hardcore and instead just beat it on hard with as few deaths as possible, Lycanites is just genuenly unfair it spawning mobs from ANY activity or location a player needs for progression

Lycanites Mobs and balanced don't go in the same sentence. It is honestly the fever dream of hostile mob mods in Minecraft. It says something when systematic game feature abuse is required to just play something. Will be abusing that skeleton head-shot behavior from now on.

That is exactly my RLcraft experience, you captured it perfectly. Just the fact that all your skills reset between deaths, that's more crazy that it needs to be. Great content tho.
Gonna be real this video is telling me if I ever wanna play this mod seriously I should disable Lykanite’s mobs. As much as they’re part of the pack’s character I do not find cheap deaths fun.
the entire pack is full of cheap deaths and similar bullshit, lykanite's is one of the main reason but not the only one. It's much more fun to watch than it is to play.
You can still get unfairly ganked by Dragons, Sea serpents, Cocatrices, ANY Blighted mobs (the purple fire mobs), unfortunate infernal mob combo, or be one shotted by a suprise skeleton with enchanted bow and god aim.
The entire pack is about cheap deaths afaik. Maybe play better than wolves if you want something more coherent but with a similar idea of painful difficulty?

"RLCraft doesn't play fair" is the moral of this story. Even with Goose doing everything possible to weigh the scales to benefit waterfowl and have some sort of balance, the pile of corpses grows ever higher. I guess it could be worse... it could be rlcraft level of infernal mobs & lycanite's mobs + 1.7.10 terrafirmacraft in a GT:NH playthrough that is under a perpetual rlcraft level blood moon. I specify 1.7.10 terrafirmacraft because mob spawning could happen on the surface at that time.
I tried RLCraft Dregora recently since I heard a lot about RLCraft, and just recently got back into minecraft. First world - Suffocated in a wall at spawn. Second world - Spawned in the ocean surrounded by sirens. Third world - Spawned next to a village castle thing, Banshee flew through the wall and killed me. (Also they're RIDICULOUSLY loud. I had all my volumes way down to have youtube on the side and it was still obnoxious.) Fourth world - Next to a much better village, froze to death very slowly. I tried making a campfire, didn't know how to light it and wanted to move it inside, and breaking it gave me literally nothing back. For some reason it doesn't include "What am I looking at?" mods or any variant that tells you if you can mine what you're actually looking at with your current tools. I even predicted it might happen and tested by checking the breaking speed, since usually slow = you're not getting the block, but no, it mines fast with bare hands AND you don't get the block. Oh, and I mined literally 3 gravel for flint and it spawned some ridiculous lycanites mob, but the village aegis saved me. So it would have ended earlier had I not been lucky near an aegis. Think I'll stick to the more factorio-esque mods where killing you for no reason is more of an accident than a main gameplay loop. And the fact the first aid health mod is hidden until you get hit is just plain old bad design. Because it totally makes sense to have the only way to check if you need healing being to either get hit, or completely stall all movement by opening a separate menu. I don't know why they even have the normal health bar when it doesn't mean anything, just replace it with the head and chest health bars with little icons, it would be so much better, and it feels so obvious. I think a lot of minor quality of life things were actively avoided to make the pack seem extra hard, but it's not more difficult, it's just that facts are obfuscated. There'd be a lot less hype about how hard the pack was if it explained what actions may spawn lycanite mobs, since there'd be less random deaths. And also because a lot of people would probably just call the pack stupid if they saw all the stuff you're 'not allowed' to do if you want to be safe. Like cutting trees, farming, mining and sleeping. Or existing near the heat or the cold. Or water. Or deserts. If anything I'm just shocked there's not a lycanite mob that kills you for eating or crafting.
Playing RLcraft in normal survival is suited to more players, once you have a spawn set and got up to a decent lvl you dont lose levels when you die and can get items from a grave. Hardcore is just so punishing, I dont mind dying in the first 10 mins but once you have got up to diamond level it hurts. Enjoying the series
Lycanite's truly is the worst minecraft mod I can think of, no exaggeration. It's mechanically well made, maybe even impressive, it doesn't look... *bad*, per se, and the enemies are genuinely unique. It's just that every visual design principle of minecraft is almost completely ignored, as well as quite a few basic game design principles. It's like a golden pin stuck directly in your eye.
I honestly love this series it really tickles my sadistic funny bone I can't wait till you complete "the starting from nothing" GTNH challenge so you can play this pack more
I have to be honest, I think it would just be for the best if lycanites was removed, considering that all it does is destroy promising attempts in an incredibly anticlimactic and frustrating way
I was thinking that, yeah These garbage deaths would make sense in a roguelite where you're supposed to kill, learn, die, repeat a la Dead Cells That's not this
Well normally it would be like that where eventually he could cheese a chest to get OP items after meeting the requirements in his last few lives, but he is playing in hardcore mode.
im so glad i found your channel, i spent an amount of time that can be succinctly stated as "yes" watching all of your videos and theyre the perfect combination of engaging, funny, and technical that itches my brain in all the right ways
Honestly, while I admire your willingness to put up with modpacks' nonsense, I'd be perfectly down with just ignoring any Lycanite mob deaths for this series. I outright turn on peaceful mode on GT for any creepers that spawn.
personally I'm actually a huge fan of lycanites mobs, though I can imagine how """wonderfully""" they mesh with the health system in RLcraft. And I readily and enthusiastically admit that my love for the mod, comes from no small amount of *masochism.* And seriously, I'm not joking about the masochism, I've laid serious claim to being the most masochistic person in the entire factorio discord, with a certain set of mods I've decided to seriously play with... now if I can ever actually _finish_ that save file I might actually be able to take that title.
24:37 There must've been an update to Ice and Fire since last I played a pack with it, because I once had an underground T5 dragon dig a gigantic staircase RIGHT up to my starter hut! If I'd been able to kill the giant reptilian jerk I'd have turned the enormous straight sloped tunnel into my new mine entrance, but sadly that was not to be and the entire area was up in flames faster than you can say "I didn't even know that thing was DOWN there!"
Im the kind of person that would really enjoy RLCraft... if it wasn't for Lycanite mobs. I'm glad someone else hates these things, cuz they're the reason I stopped playing this pack.
The desert scorpion 'Jousts' are actually Scrabs from Abe's Oddysee. Love to see them but the mod author 200% didn't invent them and should say as much.
Irresistible comment: I think I did it again I made you believe we're more than just friends Oh, baby, it might seem like a crush But it doesn't mean that I'm serious
At least you can (mostly) fix the issue of Lycanite mobs not *looking* like they fit in the minecraft world. Lycanites Redux makes most if not all the mobs look a lot blockier and more minecrafty. I beeseech you goose, to install it! c:
While I do like RLcraft and have beat it almost twice now, a lot of it is just difficult for the sake of it, as well as being generally poorly thought out and designed. While I get this is literally the point of the modpack, it gets to a point where it goes beyond just being difficult and just starts being unreasonable and obtuse. On my current playthrough, I added this mod called "Everlasting abilities" and it makes the experience a bit easier while also fitting well into the rest of the modpack. Basically, some loot pools will have ability totems, and these ability totems can be redeemed using a certain amount of xp for an effect. This can be effects such as resistance, regeneration, haste, etc for the player, and some that apply negative effects to entities around the player such as slowness, wither, weakness, etc.
This modpack with its theming and instantly deadly surprise monsters that kill you in BS ways you weren't leveled up enough to deal with at all reminds me of oldschool fantasy choose-your-own-adventure books, the good stuff like the Sorcery! series that nonetheless would absolutely destroy you if you made a single poor decision or just like, guessed wrong lol
You really do show whats interesting about RLCraft and why its a meme that sickos only bear with. The systematic approach to dealing with the pirate ship and battle tower. The panic when something goes wrong but you live through it and have to salvage what you have with a suboptimal position. Then theres everything related to lyacnite mobs. Losing is fun right?
i like this series, were even about to suggest "maybe loose some restriction to make it easier" but then, its rather entertaining to follow u doing anew and anew again :D
This is going to be a loooong series, keep it up Goose, love your content, Im so glad I found you from the first release of Nothing series. Even tho I understand less and less about that other pack lol.
There at least used to be a lycanites staff that you could use to summon the village blender thingies after you spent enough time with them, very powerful for early game. I think there are more steps to the process now because they of course nerfed anything that was particularly good, but I think it still works? You'd need a basic understanding of lycanites (I think you need a soul gazer and a summoning staff for the safe version, costs an enderpearl, a diamond, some bones and gold all together) but then you can summon the aegis from a pretty decent distance, can be great for handling ice and fire mobs before you have gear. It was an older strat though, ymmv on the current version.
i like the gregtech series a lot due to it being in a more unique category and having never interacted with that modpack in anyway before. I know this series is designed in such a way as to make it so you dont explode with gregtechification but man having seen the speedrun of this modpack done on hardcore mode i just cant watch this as a series. i know this modpack can be completed in a single sitting an seeing it be played at such a slow pace just isnt for me. good luck with this series but ill keep to the gregtech one, hope to see more cheese in the future.

Life gets boring, and only your videos (and few others) makes my days i hope you enjoy making them and playing as much as i enjoy watching them thank you for making my days better, silly goose
I love this modpack as it is the first modpack I played and I have a love/hate relationship with the Lycanite mobs. They are cool but they can be unfair sometimes with how some of them work (it also helps I don't care how they look). Everything in this video is very unlucky but you'd usually be able to recover, especially since you keep your skills normally. However since this is hardcore its incredibly punishing and you literally have to start all over again and again, which makes those unforseen deaths much worse. This makes it harder to believe that there is a specific Hardcore config that Shivaxi made thats even more punishing than base RLcraft. Though there are people who have beat it on youtube, Kiwi for one.
Don’t worry, it’s easy to avoid Lycanite’s! You just have to not break grass, mine stone, sleep, kill mobs, exist in any biome, and you’ll be free!

Seeing the vacuum sharks (or Roas officially) gave me flashbacks to them slurping me off my platform in Sink Into Madness
You casted some spell on me, im so addicted to your vids i am in withdrawal when im not watching them
Lycanite's truly is the worst minecraft mod I can think of, no exaggeration.
I honestly love this series it really tickles my sadistic funny bone I can't wait till you complete "the starting from nothing" GTNH challenge so you can play this pack more
Man I had assumed you were set, that first death was so brutal 😂
Your fun fact rants are hilarious and witty as always (skeletons are perfectionists 3:05)
I am enjoying this series just as much as the skyblock so far. Very good.
I have to be honest, I think it would just be for the best if lycanites was removed, considering that all it does is destroy promising attempts in an incredibly anticlimactic and frustrating way
If only this was an actual Roguelike, you would've unlocked a few perks by now.
nah, this is in line with the roguelike experience.
now, if this were a rogue _lite,_ on the other hand...
Reminds me of Cataclysm dark days ahead
I was thinking that, yeah
These garbage deaths would make sense in a roguelite where you're supposed to kill, learn, die, repeat a la Dead Cells
That's not this
Well normally it would be like that where eventually he could cheese a chest to get OP items after meeting the requirements in his last few lives, but he is playing in hardcore mode.
@@UltimateSpinDash Roguelikes dont unlock perks
im so glad i found your channel, i spent an amount of time that can be succinctly stated as "yes" watching all of your videos and theyre the perfect combination of engaging, funny, and technical that itches my brain in all the right ways
Finally a rlcraft run that is not a meme
What the hell was that End Portal structure even supposed to be!?
Honestly, while I admire your willingness to put up with modpacks' nonsense, I'd be perfectly down with just ignoring any Lycanite mob deaths for this series. I outright turn on peaceful mode on GT for any creepers that spawn.
im loving this vibe of being so stubborn that you'll willpower your way through bullshit but also make fun of how bullshit it is in a charming way.
personally I'm actually a huge fan of lycanites mobs, though I can imagine how """wonderfully""" they mesh with the health system in RLcraft.
And I readily and enthusiastically admit that my love for the mod, comes from no small amount of *masochism.*
And seriously, I'm not joking about the masochism, I've laid serious claim to being the most masochistic person in the entire factorio discord, with a certain set of mods I've decided to seriously play with... now if I can ever actually _finish_ that save file I might actually be able to take that title.
This solidifies the grounds of goose needing therapy I hope you get better bud 😢
Wow, Lycanite's mobs seem both overtuned _and_ ugly as sin! What's not to love?
Skeletons be like: "Professionals have standers"
Even as someone with very limited minecraft mod knowledge, you've quickly become one of my fav minecraft content creators, thanks for the videos!
24:37 There must've been an update to Ice and Fire since last I played a pack with it, because I once had an underground T5 dragon dig a gigantic staircase RIGHT up to my starter hut!
If I'd been able to kill the giant reptilian jerk I'd have turned the enormous straight sloped tunnel into my new mine entrance, but sadly that was not to be and the entire area was up in flames faster than you can say "I didn't even know that thing was DOWN there!"
you know, I might be interested in playing RL Craft if it weren't for pretty much literally everything in this video
Im the kind of person that would really enjoy RLCraft... if it wasn't for Lycanite mobs. I'm glad someone else hates these things, cuz they're the reason I stopped playing this pack.
The mentions of being a goose wearing a player disguise continues to be very funny :D love the visual image
The desert scorpion 'Jousts' are actually Scrabs from Abe's Oddysee.
Love to see them but the mod author 200% didn't invent them and should say as much.
Irresistible comment: I think I did it again
I made you believe we're more than just friends
Oh, baby, it might seem like a crush
But it doesn't mean that I'm serious
At least you can (mostly) fix the issue of Lycanite mobs not *looking* like they fit in the minecraft world. Lycanites Redux makes most if not all the mobs look a lot blockier and more minecrafty.
I beeseech you goose, to install it! c:
Loving the waterfowl jokes.
I love RLCraft. I love how janky and broken it is. RLCraft my beloved
Your minimalistic editing and dry wit are both great! Very glad I stumbled across your channel!
from all I've seen of RLCraft, it wouldn't even be that hard if Lycanites Mobs didn't exist
I look forwards to seeing the next 5 worlds in episode 3 :)
I know geese are stubborn but you are top of the crop.
-Goes through a wall
-One shots you
-Refuses to elaborate
There at least used to be a lycanites staff that you could use to summon the village blender thingies after you spent enough time with them, very powerful for early game. I think there are more steps to the process now because they of course nerfed anything that was particularly good, but I think it still works? You'd need a basic understanding of lycanites (I think you need a soul gazer and a summoning staff for the safe version, costs an enderpearl, a diamond, some bones and gold all together) but then you can summon the aegis from a pretty decent distance, can be great for handling ice and fire mobs before you have gear. It was an older strat though, ymmv on the current version.
Tbh this dude sounds eerily similar to The Librarian lmao
hell yea were back, i knew there was an ep 2 as soon as i saw that there was an unavailable video in the playlist lol
i like the gregtech series a lot due to it being in a more unique category and having never interacted with that modpack in anyway before.
3:20 Caught me so off guard, your dry delivery humor is always top notch
Gosh, you make those videos so entertaining, I binge watched all your videos yesterday night, truly godly work. And here I thought I won't like rlcraft series and to my surprise it's goated!. Keep up the good work!
I am not gonna lie, even for hardcore gregging fan, this is very entertaining to watch
Who is this guy good jokes good upload schedule peak content
omg i love this so much! this needs to be on a shirt!
Love your content both active series get me so hyped when I see a new episode
the true rlcraft experience, i knew the first episode went too well
Came for GT:NH. Stayed for the Goose.
Life gets boring, and only your videos (and few others) makes my days
i hope you enjoy making them and playing as much as i enjoy watching them
thank you for making my days better, silly goose
one must imagine goose to be happy
Igblon went ahead and took your Greg tech nh from void idea
Garden of grind gtnh already existed. Goose's void world is different
This pack would probably be a ton of fun without Lycanites
Unironically you are my favorite youtuber now!! Ive watched every video youve uploaded and theyre all great!
