I would still give anything to have a server or servers that allowed you to progress from Vanilla -> TBC -> Wrath at your own leisure. Play through vanilla collecting and accomplishing everything I wish to do. Click a button and the changes implemented in TBC would take effect. Play through TBC collecting and accomplishing everything I wish to do. Click a button and the changes implemented in Wrath would take effect. Play through Wrath collecting and accomplishing everything I wish to do. Lots of rinsing and repeating. Would happily pay a much higher monthly subscription for such an option.

One easy line to draw for Classic is whenever they dumbed down the talent trees to the 3 choices per. The modern LFG\LFR is a good line too.
Everquest is also now an archaic nightmare of 15 concurrent expansion servers. Not fun
this is the future of wow. because the loud screechy rEEs of the classic andys. they're about 1/20th of the wow population but they scream the loudest.

My boi is right on here. Rather than hate the “lack of content” and raid log, i swap between SoD, Cata, MoP remix, Retail, and even D4. And Helldivers2 😂
Meanwhile, some friends only play retail. Some only retail/cata. And one friend only plays SoD. And i can hang out with all of them on the same sub. 👍

Alright let me hop in here real quick. I am a classic only player. I loved WoTLK, Hardcore, and regular Classic. Also, I freaking loved Cata when it released way back in the day. But it's not classic to me. Classic to me is the closing of the Warcraft series. When the lore was engaged in homaging the story masterpiece of that world. The world of Warcraft. Cata revamped everything taking the hardcore elements of WoTLK, TBC, & Vanilla then just giving everything that modern style. ESO & FFXIV were just around the corner at that time. In my opinion as much as I love Cata it is simply just not classic. Deathwing destroys the original maps. It has updated play, graphics, and design. To me it's just not classic whatsoever. The journey melted away with the world. I think Blizzard should do this. Leave Vanilla Classic where it is. Truly hit the mark with that. Then create TBC classic and WoTLK classic servers separate as well. Bring back fighting Illidan and going through the portal a highlight of your journey. Then WoTLK is the ribbon for classic Warcraft story. No character transfers either. I know people want to play it the expansion with their character already leveled. But you're going to make the game a stagnant end game experience from the beginning. No fresh characters to play with. Everyone will be obsessed with bringing those toons over. I say bite the bullet. Start fresh characters on TBC & Wrath. That way the classic experience is in 3 parts with 3 journeys. Also, I would LOVE if they went with their original idea. Demon Hunters and Death Knights were supposed to be vanilla classes. So I say hold a poll on including Demon Hunters in TBC classic. Because come one. Warglaives on a DH? Bro. That's hard to argue with. They are end game weapons for people but they are from the original DH. I just think that would be absolutely ASTOUNDING. Is this a lot? YES. But we currently have 5 split player bases already. SoD, Cata, Hardcore, Retail, and Vanilla. So I say give retail the modern love it deserves. Highlight Cata and MoP. Let people play the content and raids again each year. Advancing through the years like we already did. Blizzard we love WoW. We simply just do. But for me retail is not for me. I will stick to the classic because it doesn't need changed. Skyrim and Oblivion are still played to this day. With nothing new needing to be added to be great. Some games are perfect the way they are. But only time shows us that. Thank you for reading my book. Hope people agree and disagree

I often wonder if the "version for everyone" approach would be as effective as going all in on a Classic+, with all brand new content and expansions that can be monetized along the way
I think what this will lead to is that after the World Soul Saga, Blizzard will 'reset' the entire world but in an even more drastic way than Cataclysm. Reality breaks down and Azeroth is made a new. Each zone much bigger and more detailed than the original. But Blizzard can't afford to make that a one-time expansion, they need its zones to remain evergreen, which is why they're currently experimenting with Season of Discovery and expansion remixes to get a feel for how to make the content more than a place you rush through to get into a raid dungeon.
Came back to sod from og cata. That led me to cata classic and now retail. Idk what to do but retail is depressing. I want retail but with the classic community. Playing sod I met some of the worst and some of the almost worst people in 20 years of gaming. It was still incredible how people wait for you in dungeons and it doesn’t feel so rushed.
I enjoy retail honestly. The convenience and customization is why i like it more. I also play on an rp server and people are usually way nicer on them from my experience
I started Classic again today after 20 years. The new Wow is alright played for a day or 2. New players feel free to add me just lmk
I doubt MOP classic will happen because everyone even classic players are playing remix so because it’s so recent I don’t think so. And then there is WOD so might as well just stop after cata.
Unfortunately the modern clients don't run well on my laptop and I'm pretty much forced to play on private servers, which is odd because a couple years ago I played Shadowlands with no issue and now I can't even run blizzard's classic servers without unplayable lag
I guess it's not that odd, I can tell by looking at it that the system requirements have gone up which tells me at some point they overhauled the clients, just kinda sucks

Putting later expansion abilities in sod does not make it “retail lite” lol there’s nothing similar to retail

Only bad thing about 'Classic' Classic is that you don't find Alliance mofos to kill in the world anymore. Every server is either 99.99% Horde or Alliance.
Deciding which version to "main" is the most annoying decision...
vanilla is the only reasonable option imo
i have mained retail. just because there's the collection aspect of the game. But ive still done all of sod and all of classic. I just hit certain thresholds and go back to retail. hit 25 and did bfd, back to retail. 40 and gnomer.. back to retail. 50 and st.. over to caty.. hit max. clear the first tier of raids.. back to retail.
The older iterations are great and they've been figured out to such an extreme that clearing the content is a breeze. i don't wanna delude myself into believing im gonna relive 13 year old me's happiness playing in vanilla wow. because im 33.
I would suggest if you're a new player to play classic era and sod until you reach a point where you wanna explore something new then give retail a shot. There's so much in retail that you could play 10 hours a day for 4 years straight and maybe MAYBE be at like 40% achievements

Progression is a great idea. I always think classic should be progression server, not classic+ because classic+ will bring changes to destroy the game, just like season of discovery or wow hardcore, total mistakes.
I have had a blast playing classic all the way to Cata again. I played from Vanilla to Shadowlands and after Legion It really fell off a cliff for me. Maybe I was burned out but mostly the game was just not for me anymore I continued to play in BFA and Shadowlands but it was not a very fun experience. Going back to play classic servers was a breath of fresh air but the inflation of gold and the over competitive nature that seeped its way into classic has kind of soured it for me. Classic vanilla for the most part wasn't to bad it was wrath that it really seemed like it went off the rails and that toxic elitist attitude you see in modern wow was in full swing. This is just my opinion though and I am still having fun in Cata classic for the moment.
As someone who only went back to 'Classic Servers' for the sole reason to be able to play on a legitimate dedicated PVP server, - the reality hit in after they kept releasing the expansions, that eventually they will get to the point of Battle For Azeroth , and they will more than likely put amd end to PVP servers, again..
With that in the back of my mind, whats the point??
It’s an unintentional funnel to get people back to retail. Makes you think that WoD Classic won’t be that bad if it’s only 9 months and gets us to Legion
This game boils down to one thing: Gear Score. You need a gear score to advance in quests. Clearly Blizzard clearly doesn’t want new and returning players. I’m warning you to find a different game. I just returned and am extremely disappointed at being left out of quests where we’re supposed to get new gear. So how are we going to advance our gear score if we can’t join group quests. Do NOT come back to this game.
Doesnt matter what version you play, the community is trash.
I honestly don't understand why it's so difficult to have ONE Classic, TBC, and WoTLK server each for people who aren't enjoying modern WoW. Sure, the game is better than BFA and Shadowlands now, but it doesn't mean people enjoy retail.
I'm gonna quit when MOP arrives.
if they do classic mop after the timerunning mop event.. lol. i think people are good on that content. running every raid 100+ times in a few weeks will burn you out for a decade+
Classic was vanilla. Plain and simple. The balance was perfect, with all its meme specs. There was a small group of people that complained wow was to easy when it came out, because it wasnt full loot like runescape. Those people will be vindicated and proven right. Blizzard will eventually learn they can market vanilla classic forever with full loot pvp servers.
The balance wasn’t perfect though, I.E. many specs not being viable for raid and rotation being boring. But vanilla to wotlk is prime wow for me.
@@babansif it wasn't boring it was what made it what it was. Often you could make those specs viable with work, for both raid and pvp. And they all had their places.
WoW can have 1000 versions of itself but it still wont bring a new generation of players and be heavily dependent on old community which is only waiting for new king in mmorpg genre.

I definitely don't see these additional game modes staying free forever. Like you said, they were meant to be side content but with demand and them sinking more and more time and resources into it, I could easily see Microsoft or Blizzard forcing an additional fee eventually, which is more than likely what is going to happen.
it's definitely not going to happen. they have an extremely small team working on classic era. they have a SLIGHTLY bigger team working on sod. Those 2 small teams are retaining 300k+ subs. of the 7.5mil current subs. so about 1/25 of the current subs are here exclusively for classic / sod. it's included in the subscriptions because you can't play retail on the same account while playing classic (literally. as in you cant run classic client and retail client simultaneously from the same account). They won't earn any more money by making it separate subs. The appeal for many is that they can play a little of any given version and hop around. blizzard gets to maintain a sub while they hop from version to version.
Back in the day if you wanted to hop around you cancelled your sub and tried a new game. you might not find your way back to wow for 3 years.
They're earning substantially more money this way.
i wouldnt be subscribed if the classic era severs didnt exsist, and i aint gonna lie ive tried out plunder storm cata and mop remix but non of them are for me. i think the cata servers will eventually catch up to retail and thats when retail should come to an end point. retail should then just delete everything and evolve into a new version of wow and the now cata servers will become like a perma timewalking era server

Classic SoD is NOT classic ! As long as they implante some abilities from retail. It's retail but without the cool stuff of retail (idk why people play SoD...)
