To get rid of that power steering pump noise, put about 10"-15" of vacuum on it while it's running and slowly steer it from lock to lock until the noise is gone. Works every time, been doing it for years.
@@tylerseabook9423 You put a light vacuum on the pump to draw out the trapped air in the fluid as the pump runs and slowly steering from lock to lock. All you need is a hand vacuum pump and the valve stem part from an old inner tube for the steering pump opening.
Incredible the thought and planning that went into this project Karl, impressed to the max and inspired to focus more attention to detail. Thanks man for sharing your craft!
MIC, guns drawn! I had that experience in Virginia many years ago. It ain't funny till it's over! Great build! Brent had a hand in the early stage so I bet he's happy it's on the road too. Thanks for sharing your prodigious skillset and tool savvy! Cheers!
It doesn't matter how well you do a project, there are always going to be teething problems. I used to call it the death shake, because with every oscillation, you think something is going to break or fall off. I had a flashback relating to your story about the cops approaching with their guns out. It is quite an experience, isn't it? In 1964, I was working on a summer job in the oilfields of southern Saskatchewan, and for my 21st birthday, my buddies decided that we needed to head down across the border to celebrate. The evening was a lot of fun, (many other memorable stories), but this story, is about our trip home. By the time we got back to the border, the crossing had closed, so we had to drive 40 miles East to a crossing that was open. During the drive, my buddy, who was driving, must have been speeding, because we were pulled over by the State Highway Patrol. (I was sitting in the left rear position, behind the driver, so the whole incident, was almost like watching a movie. The cop asked for the registration and insurance, and when my friend reached over to open the glove compartment to retrieve the insurance certificate. We all heard this loud click, which was the sound of this large cannon, ( 6 shot revolver), being cocked while pointed at Rick's head. It was an extremely unnerving experience. The irony was, that after the cop identified us and learned the reason for our being on the highway that late at night, he let us go with a warning. It was quite a memorable birthday!
Great to see all the little mods coming together after the 1st drive, albeit interrupted. Look forward to more on the ramp truck and the other projects too. Be safe and stay well.
The Evolution saw absolutely ROCKS! It is a game changer for sure. We bought one 3 years ago! They also have a mag drill. I sent in a suggestion/inquiry to Evolution about angle grinder wheels. They thanked me for the input. They're definitely on the ball! Hey! Fast Cut is on the ball too! They make a great machine! Truly impressive! I think Derek Bieri the Vice Grip feller actually has one.
Once again, I have to say it....the sheer magnitude of this build combined with the engineering and art/design is just awe inspiring! Congrats to you and Elio and all the crew that helped get her on the road! Looking forward to the road trip! Go Japhands, keep moving forward!
Karl you are fantastic and I never miss an episode. I think you might need to modify your front pan hard bar as it already is on quite an angle but when the truck is at ride height it will be a much greater angle. As the suspension works the pan hard bar will push the truck sideways due to the end of the bar travelling up and down through an arc. Bar should be horizontal and as long as possible at ride height.
Evolution saw was a must have last year and never regret this purchase ! The Evolution magnetic stick work great as well ! Keep them coming Karl ! Still here
this build is completely blowing my mind right now jump back months ago you were installing the engine and i thought to myself wow he about got it kicked in the butt but here we are months later and many helpers throwing in everything they had for days now you are still killin it days later its amazing how many parts you have fabbed up for this truck you couldnt afford to buy all of those pieces thank god for your hands get it
Karl, definitely a power steering fluid issue, be it air or wrong fluid. Purge with engine off wheels off the floor, cycle lock to lock. Use atf not power steering fluid. Have seen this problem a couple times.
Toe and Caster will help the front end settle down a bunch. Funny that you guys hopped in and went for a drive without running it a lot and burping the system, lol. Gonna be so cool once it's sorted out!
I really enjoy your talent and how you explain why/how it should be done. The art of fab is becoming a lost art ,I`m in my 70`s i still do my work without the use of most of the tools you have, its to late to buy them now because I`m not going to be doing it much longer. Keep it up thanks Jack in calif.
Seeing through your eyes and insights helps me to overkome fears to think about repairs or modifikations or fabrikations. Thanks. PLEASE, better lighting when under the truck.
sounds like its still got air in the system . I had a car that took a lot of FN around to get it out . ended up putting a pressure gauge on it to get it to bleed and to make sure it was hitting the right pressure
Scary when the front end gets a mind of it’s own. Power steering whine, air or non compatible fluid. If you are pouring in kleen-flo power steering fluid, dump it and use dexron atf. Had an issue with hydroboost power steering and it was the fluid. To purge air, wheels off floor and cycle lock to lock with engine off. I was going to comment about the front end, but i wasnt sure how it would react until you drove it. Sounds like your friend guided you down the right path.
My first episode I watched was one where you showed the cab sitting outside your old place and said "one day i'll build a truck out of that" Congrats that day is now!
I was thinking the back up light in the center would look cool when he was placing the lights. Like those amazing tail light brackets. Lol Ill just whip up something temporary, I'd be nailing a light to a 2x4 and using a bungie cord to hold it.
I can't believe the interaction with the cops wasn't filmed, what kinda RUclipsr are you!?!? 😂 Brackets look great, good looking brackets make a big difference! 👍🏻
Man that thing is so killer. I just looked up where you're at and while I live in Southern AZ now, I grew up in Bellingham. I think that thing would be cool to take down to next year's ski to sea car show. Grateful as always for your videos. Take care. Oh almost forgot, you might have some luck bleeding the air out of that power steering system if you make a little adapter to be able to stick a vacuum pump on the steering reservoir for a bit. 😼
On building your adjustable panhard bar, I was watching a guy build a 4 link for the rear of the truck. When he welded the bungs in he only welds around where the bungs go in the tubes. He used to plug weld them in but often by the time he welded them in the heat from welding damaged the threads in the bungs. Then again he was using much thicker wall tubing on the ones he put together. 1/4" wall 2" ID Dom is what he was using.
Great build! The video s have been informative and inspiring! As a side interest what sound track do you use? Its really relaxing and would make a great shop background sound track
A really great way to do an preliminary alignment is the string method. You can get it almost perfect. Put two jack stands behind vehicle. Stretch a string forward to front tires. Just kiss rear tires and measure both sides of front tire.
If you can arrange a Watts link rather than a Panhard rod that is always a better move without a great deal more complication - the centreline geometry doesn't change with the Watts link. Not that the Panhard rod won't work or is a terrible mistake - the Watts link just eliminates a variable. Nice to be in BC where you don't have to go through a lot of the bureaucratic rigamarole we have in Ontario. The ramp truck looks fantastic. Can't wait to see it in its full futurismo glory.
Not sure if you knew or not but you can select more than one contour at a time in SheetCam. I will select all the inside contours & then sent them to their own layer all at once. Definitely curious how close you run the arc voltages & speed to get less dross.
I would be tempted to move the back wall of the cab backwards. To give more room inside . A nice stereo would take up the space nicely. Id like to build a pickup truck from a coe. Maybe make it 3/4 ton with 22" rims, a Cummins diesel, or maybe a 6-71, 8v92 Detroit with 4500 axels , making it along bed/box truck , fab up a step side. find some suitable fenders and build a bed from roughly 2mm sheet welded to a 1.75"tubing fir the top end , a 90° a short flat the tube and a tailgate about 4" thick with a shadow box look the outside from 18 ga. Sheet, the inside from 3mm, (1/8") and some 1" poplar boards treated with epoxy. For the floor. Possibly a 10' bed and build a aluminum frame, carbon fiber bed cover, with stainless steel 2" strips in te bed floor, to secure the boards. Maybe have a hydraulic tilt bed? And what would be even cooler, build a camper bed for it. It being a truck doubling as a RV, build a 12' long camper 7'??" Tall. 7'10" wide with shallow fenders. Made with sheet and English whee. A 1.5" bent sheet 'C' channel frame work with aluminum outside foam insulation in the middle, and painted panneling inside, with alot of led lighting ,fold down beds, a wrap around seatingin front with a barn door rear. With large screen a fridge and stove and sink, with a closet with a toilet inside. And a 50 gallon fresh water tank, and 60 gal. Grey water, and a battery bank with solar panels on the roof. And a aux, alternator to charge the house batteries. Around 600 ah, 12v with a 2000 watt inverter to powerr a small microwave and accessories. Use a small engine in a insulated case to keep the battery charged at times if no sun. A 6.5hp engine with a 150 amp alternator inside. With 50' of 6 ( 25' +, 25' if - cable) gauge cable and a 18 ga. Voltage sense cables, to charge the battery, with really quiet exhaust capable of about 8-10 hours run time. And will auto shut-off when the batteries are fully charged. Inside with a tv or radio on quietly the engine shouldn't be heard. And easily ablebto talk while standing over the engine. It fitting in a compartment infront of the rear wheel. Can be left there running, but the vibration can be felt. Anyway thats what I'd do with a similar truck, sorry to ramble on . Have a awesome day!!

I watched the whole build I'm very happy for you can't wait to see it painted and all done

Hey Karl,
Great to see the Ramp Truck out of the shop and motoring about in your beautiful part of the world.
Karl you are fantastic and I never miss an episode.

Great to see the ramp truck on the road! Looks fantastic!
That power steering pump crying for dear life is driving me bananas
Awesome. Love this build.
Looks like it's coming along great, can't wait, thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones
looks great I really enjoyed this build. Great to see it on the road, looking forward to seeing it with the finished deck.
By far one of the coolest truck cabs to that with very cool🇺🇲
Awesome as Always Really cool Update Thankyou

I haven't tuned in for a while but wanted to say how cool this is looking. Great to finally have it road worthy....
....enough 😁

I've always like cab-overs and I really love yours!
Its just as exciting for a driver as it is for the kids when ya put air to them horns
!!
Seeing through your eyes and insights helps me to overkome fears to think about repairs or modifikations or fabrikations. Thanks. PLEASE, better lighting when under the truck.
Been watching this build from the beginning.... Lookin Killer Man!!!
This truck is awesome. Great build.
such a cool truck! Sound like power steering pump is struggling though 🤷🏻♂️
Is that what the whining noise was?
I sure hope that is power steering pump noise, and not a trans pump whine. Looks wild!
sounds like its still got air in the system . I had a car that took a lot of FN around to get it out . ended up putting a pressure gauge on it to get it to bleed and to make sure it was hitting the right pressure

I was worrying about that whine too! Cool truck!
Too cool! Thanks for showing your work!
Karl, nice job on the ramp truck, my favorite piece of equipment in your shop is the CNC burn out table....wish I had one!!
My first episode I watched was one where you showed the cab sitting outside your old place and said "one day i'll build a truck out of that" Congrats that day is now!
Awesome to see you sending it
Good call on the Panhard bar. Great looking truck!
Love it. So cool. Well done.
Death wobble repaired !
A vintage Pepsi cooler as an armrest in that hole would be mint !
I was afraid that front end was going to be a problem. I'm glad you got it sorted though. I can't wait to see this thing done hauling stuff around.
"There's no paint in there. Not sure why it's on the shelf." Puts it back on the shelf. Haha
Incredible, I never would have dreamed that weight, since you all made it sooo beefy 💪
I would do the tail lights like an Impala. Red-white-red.
68 model year, bumper included.
65 Impala, oh yeah!
I was thinking the back up light in the center would look cool when he was placing the lights. Like those amazing tail light brackets. Lol
Ill just whip up something temporary, I'd be nailing a light to a 2x4 and using a bungie cord to hold it.
love the hot plate JDM Skyline tail light look!
The GMCis looking sharp. Well done.
Truck looks awesome outside down low 😎 too cool 👍
Killer congratulations brother!
A great build Karl really nice to see you and silent Bob out fer a rip
43:13
Wait wait wait woah!
How did you manage that camera swing around you? Did you flawlessly hand it to Elliot? I‘m impressed…
I can't believe the interaction with the cops wasn't filmed, what kinda RUclipsr are you!?!? 😂 Brackets look great, good looking brackets make a big difference! 👍🏻
_Kickin ASS!_
Thank God it's on the road real good work boys🎉

Nice job on the ramp truck, Jack, RI, USA
Excellent job 👍 looks great.
Looks good all laid out.
Great build !!! 👍🏼🏁
Great show
Truck is looking great!! Take care
Very KOOL Karl and Elliot Looks Good
Great video!
Looks cool rolling around

Come on Karl, fix that dinger on the COE's nose! Lovin the build!
Duuuuuuuuude ya gotta put the white backup light in the middle like a 60's Impala 😎😎

looks so good out in the wild
It will all come together Karl. It’s looking awesome - can’t wait to see “first” ride vid without the cops 😂

Congrats on getting the truck on the road, turned out lighter that I thought it might be
Truck is looking good 👍
You should be able to enable the tow haul function in the factory computer to get a better shift point.
Nice truck!
One word…….”FRICKEN AWESOME”…
Oops sorry two words!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
good job man 👍💪
Dude has it all
Top dás galáxia ótimo trabalho parabéns 😮😮
Have you thought about wider front tires to fill up the wheel well?
It happens on all vehicles you're building. Especially when?
You're out of your wheelhouse.😂😂😂😂
Great RCMP story , welcome to maple ridge 😂🤣 police are on high alert lately 😬

Karl has got to be one of the best ,if not the best, metal fabricators Canada has. The man is a genius.
You and the Edison Motors crew should team up. Your both on the West coast and extremely talented
Gotta do the game changer with the air horn, and swapnit with a Fog horn
Such a cool ride! But what's the high frequent sound while the test drive? Sounds like a damaged pump or so...
Dang, Fast Cut is everything I wish my Langmuir was...
Build is looking pretty damn sweet 🛠
Try putting a vacuum on your power steering pump fill port. With the hydro boost, and power steering it sounds like you have air in the system. The only way to get it out is to put a vacuum on it.
2:33 is that an Australian ACT licence plate? I'm in the ACT
Looks Good! What is the Whine when You accelerate?
11:11 steering shaft yoke flange bent?
47:45 It sounds like your power steering pump is whining. It is something to check. I also hear the belts squealing all the time.
Tops work! Looks very cool dumped. What's that pitched whining noise when you drive? It doesn't sound deliberate.
"Did it look cool?" Story of every man's life
Death wobble is the name for your "front end dancing". Very dangerous.
sick sick sick
Transmission front pump sounds loud
