- The moving diary of Angelina Jolie and Dr Jeffrey Sachs while visiting some projects in Africa that make a real difference in combatting poverty. Their visits illustrate not only the necessity but also the feasability of the UN's Millennium Development Goals, agreed on by all the member states in 2000.
As the forum where the voice of all nations -- great and small -- can be raised and heard the UN (minus the Security Council) is the hope for the world and must be the agency through which all major international problems will be resolved.

I cannot criticize someone who takes action to help others. Angelina Jolie's generosity is very touching.

This video make me think about my life... Im brazilian, forgive my bad english. I have to do something to make the world better, maybe i cant go to africa, but i can help people around me and I can talk about and write about and try to influence people to help others in need.
Well, she ain't only raising awareness, she donates like one third of her money to these people too.

As no-one can solve this problem individually, I rather see people working on awareness-raising -- regardless of their personal fortune -- than scolding others just because they can't solve it individually...
No mater how many times a read, listen and watch about these things, I still get chills.
To think, that if we all contributed, if we all knew, if we all acted, this could be stopped. It seems so basic.
But then, remembering its harder than it seems, that you are only one person, one individual, in a world of billions, makes you seem small and incapable again.
Thinking that poor countries need the help of foreign governments to get out of poverty is gross ignorance in basic economics. Angelina Jolie needs to give her money to a private charity instead of these bureaucratic hacks!

I really felt empathy to those poor people. Guys! I experience what they have gone through. Though it's not as complicated as their situation but it's really hard!!! coz I also came from the poor family. I wanna cry while watching this vedio..

Good to know you're contributing. And no, I'm not at all into celebs. I just think this program will help raise people's awareness about the real problems of the world, and our personal responsibility to do something about it. Besides, this program is not about RED, so maybe you could save your comments for videos that that are?
awareness is the road to start doing something...you don't have to go acroos the world to realize there are certain things to be done. i don't think the fact that she is a celebrity has anything to do with this she is a human like the rest of us...we all have needs...we all need education, food, medicine...it's amazing that she's doing something, that she cares, that's what matters.

@danwild6 hey, seeing your comment a couple of years later, and seeing how much the recession did, it probably still can. it's put 40 mil below 1.25 a day compared to the trajectory without it, which is terrible, but the mdg of halving extreme poverty by 1990-2015 is actually going to be exceeded! so we do still have reason to be impatient optimists :)

@gaartsen Ideals are very important but the reality is that because our core of civilization is based on competition what you are suggesting will not happen, what you asking is for people to take away their comfortable lives and give to the poor. History shows that this will not happen but of course im not saying that we should give up, because people who quit can never win but those who keep trying may win eventually.
The UN is the hope for the future of this world. Conspiracy theories are the result of fear, which has wreaked enough havoc already. If only the UN would get the chance to really represent the nations of the world, without its agenda being hijacked by the US, many of our problems would have been solved 20 odd years ago.

I don't know that qvqvqv23 is a conspiracy theorist, but every organization has its weaknesses - the UN is no exception. However, the UN is generally a force for good in the world, and Jeffrey Sachs knows how to tackle poverty.
Maybe it will force us (in the West) to re-think our exploitative relationship with our brothers and sisters in other countries, and find a way that will support a decent life for everyone? From greed to sharing, from competition to co-operation, from conflict to peace? Would we choose it if given the chance?
You see a video of a person helping the very poor but you comment on the least important thing about that person?
Hey Angelina, how do you eradicate poverty when your "leading expert in poverty" says that the reason a country is poor is because its in high altitude? Malaria nets don't do anything, its a business. Mosquitoes attack most during dawn and twilight when people are working in the fields. This clip is ridiculous and masks the true reasons for poverty.
