Our techs show how to install the pop out windows on 1964 and earlier Beetles so follow along and get a last look at the 63 before it leaves our shop for awhile!

    I wonder if this is possible for 99 civic hatchback. Originally they dont come like that. But i like how old hondas have pop out side glass.

      We have no clue, we sell VW parts. We don't offer anything for Hondas.

    Would ypu happened to know if this window bracket fit on my mini truck...

    • @Sam_Mebane
      @Sam_Mebane 8 месяцев назад +1

      I was talking with a guy that worked at a junkyard. People would regularly asked him if any particular seat would fit in any particular car or truck. He'd always say "Absolutely, open the trunk and drop the tail gate and it will fit in!"
      That being said, we have no idea, the pop out windows and parts we offer are for Vintage VWs. Could it be modified to work in your application? Maybe, but that's up to you and your abilities.

    I recently purchased this for my 67 bug. The latch and glass is completely different. My latch installs to a hole in the glass. Inspecting further, because there’s no instructions, I see a flat “cotter pin like” that looks like needs to be removed for me to take apart the latch to attach to hole in the glass. How do I remove and install that section without damaging it?

    • @Sam_Mebane
      @Sam_Mebane Год назад +1

      The latch on 1965 and later pop outs is attached with a pin that goes through the glass on the outside, and is held to the latch on the inside with a circlip. That clip needs to be removed to separate the latch from the pin if it is in place.

    Can you reuse stock windows? Or do you have to buy the windows in the kit?

      Popout glass is a different size than non popout glass.

      You could always make your own pop outs, but yeah, the glass is different.

    How is that sheet metal a hinge? Am I missing something, or does that metal just flex?

    • @Sam_Mebane
      @Sam_Mebane Год назад +2

      That's it, the metal just flexes a bit.

    • @jemcnair76
      @jemcnair76 Год назад +1

      @@Sam_Mebane Thank you. This is a job I'm doing in the next few weeks when I get all of the parts, and I was confused. I guess the metal can take many flexes without breaking... but then, it wouldn't move much, would it? More of a spring than an actual kink in the metal.

    • @Sam_Mebane
      @Sam_Mebane Год назад +2

      @@jemcnair76 correct, the amount of deflection or movement needed from the hinge is only a couple of degrees. So that little bit of flex from the hinge is all that is needed.

      @jemcnair76 Год назад +1

      @@Sam_Mebane I thank you, my friend.

      @@Sam_Mebane I did this job on one of the windows, today. New outer seal, old hinge, new hinge bar, on a 1973 Super. It only took about 30 minutes and can be a one-man job. A tool that was quite useful was a suction cup with handles... the kind you use on floor tiles and for glass work.
      I haven't done the latch yet, as I haven't received them yet, but expect (I'm saying this to other readers, not you, Mr Mebane) about 30 minutes to install a new outer seal and screw in a new window... pinch welt, and hinge cover. My car is a '73, so I already have all of the holes from the factory.
      Another thing for people doing this the first time, pull the regular quarter windows long ahead of time in case you find some rust you have to kill off, prime, and paint. I pulled my windows early and found just that. A previous owner had used a razor knife to cut out the old seals at one point and scored up the metal on the outside of the car.
      For those taking out the old windows, just cut the seal ON THE INSIDE bottom (don't score the metal there, either) and press out the glass. Pretty easy and another one-man job.
