i realized my passport was expired two days before travel plans, made a next day appointment at a state department passport office for 8am, and received my passport SAME DAY for only 190$ (130$ normal fee, plus 60$ expedited). This only works if a) there happens to be an appointment available, i got lucky and there was ONE appointment available, and b) if you have proof that you have travel plans the next day. It doesn’t have to be life or death. I was in and out of the office in FIFTEEN minutes, and came back later that day to pick up my passport at 1. Everyone was so kind and efficient, I was expecting more of a DMV type experience but it was the best government office experience I’ve ever had 😅 If your travel plans are not next day, they will mail it to you, overnight if necessary .

Just google “is rush my passport a scam” and all the search results confirm. WHAT YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO GET YOUR PASSPORT FOR THE FIRST TIME is a valid drivers license or ID, your actual birth certificate not a copy or pdf, a passport photo which you can have taken at the post office to meet their specific requirements (you can do this the same day you go in to order your passport), a blank check for you to fill out there to pay (they don’t take card, cashiers check or money order only), and a filled out ds-11 form which is a 1 page form asking for your basic contact info, address, date of birth, SSN, and parents birth info if you have it (not needed, optional). Great, clear video! I need to renew my passport before Sept '24. I will renew mine while in the US but I need to keep my old passport due to my Philippines 13A stamp needing to be transferred when I return there this year. How can I do that? Thanks
You would need to contact the PI embassy or Consulate in the US but a lot of countries let you bring 2 passports as long as you have a valid stamp in an expired passport.
Thanks for the help. If I pay for the application expedited return, will I need to be home to sign for the package or will the mail carrier leave the new passport in my mailbox with my regular mail? Thanks.
I believe you have to sign it, but you could sign up for Informed Delivery and maybe have the post office hold it for you, until you can pick it up at a time that works for you.
I'm really skeptical of mailing my precious passport in. Is it safe? Also note to anyone who doesn't have other ID - get additional state ID before mailing in your passport.

You can use a DS-82. Fill out a DS-82 marked for book and staple in a 2x2" photo. Include a check or money order for $130 (add $60 for expedited processing and 1-2 day shipping is available for only $19.53. 14 days is what you would normally schedule but before that you would need an appointment a few days before travel but could schedule it for up to a couple of weeks before travel date.
No you do not need to. Just include your last 10 year (ADULT) passport issued in the last 15 years, DS-82 w/compliant photo stapled and a check or money order for $130 to the U.S. Department of State. You can also add $60 to the $130 if you want it expedited processing. For another $19.53 you can get your new book mailed to you with 1-2 day shipping. I recommend using a Priority or Priority Express Envelope when mailing to the state department as those are prepaid and you get a tracking number.
Hi! Just have a quick question for ANYONE: My wife and I have a planned trip within 8 weeks; If I have never had a passport and my wife needs to renew hers, would we book the same appointment to take care of both?
Yes you can select for more than 1 person on the USPS website. It depends on which passport your wife had previously. If it is a 10 year or Adult Passport issued in the last 15 years (10 year validity period + 5 year expired period), then she can renew by mail. If she previously had a 5 year or Child passport or an adult passport that has passed the validity period then she would have to renew in person. There is also an option for urgent service for travel if you need a passport within 14 calendar days before date of travel (28 days for those who need a visa).
@ great to know, I have a immediate flight at 12:00pm and my appointment is at 9:30am hopefully they’ll be able to print in 2 hours or less. At least for this urgent travel situation.
My passport was issued 14 years ago and expired 4 years ago. I meet all the requirements to renew by mail, but my one question is about the passport photo. I have changed a lot (looks) since my now expired passport photo. Do I get new photos and include them in the mail?
Yes you will need a new photo as the DS-82 says the photo has to be current (in the last 6 months). There is an area on the DS-82 where you can staple the photo.

I helped a friend with his application and he is actually mad at me thinking that I did some mistakes, because it’s had almost 7 week since we’ve applied. Expedited.
You would need to go in person if it was not issued in the last 15 years. You can use your old expired passport in lieu of a proof of citizenship document so no need for birth certificate/certificate of citizenship/CRBA/Naturalization certificate. If it was a child or 5 year passport it would have to be renewed in person regardless.
You would mail it if you are renewing. First time applicants or long term expired/child passports (passport issued after 15 years or 5 year or child passports) need to be done at an acceptance facility such as a post office or government building. You can also use a Passport agency for fast service.
It has gotten a lot faster lately. A lot of renewals can be done online which allows a qualified individual to renew a passport without having to mail it in (with some limitations). No real need to use rushmypassport anymore and it is possible to get an appointment at a state department agency for urgent or life or death travel.
What is wrong with that department? It is 2014! We should instead hire Amazon for this function -> renewal would only take 3 days (upload your picture and a picture of your old passport and voila! 3 days later you get it in the mail!! AI government is sorely needed!!!
You can contact the state department for an urgent appointment around a couple of weeks before travel. You need to include proof of travel but you can get same day service. You may have to travel to an agency as there might not be one in your state or appointments might not be available in your city.
For urgent service, Embassies or Consulates would only offer a 1 year Emergency Passport. If you want a normal passport after that, you would need to fill out a DS-5504 and send it to them or do that process in the US. Another option is to do a mail in renewal to the Embassy/Consulate which is prioritized over those who live in the US. No expedited processing is available but you would be able to get a regular passport.

It kind of is confusing. Enough to grant me watching this video
I never understood why this process is so lengthy and complicated.
We had online renewal once but it was having too many issues, so it was scrapped (for now).
Wow, it took 10 years for this comment to appear.
Do you have to show proof you have a trip coming up😂?
Yes!
Just book a hotel as proof screenshot and cancel reservation after
@@HeruAmaruelBey lol thought you have to show a flight…?
@@nene49er19 not sure but say if you’re traveling to Mexico by land a personal vehicle a flight wouldn’t be necessary to show
I followed your steps to get the US passport and they denied it. Even when I showed them the US visa on my passport.
What do you mean?
@@awaytogether I was trying to be funny. The joke was I applied for a US passport even though I am not a citizen.
@@vinaybhardwaj9265 haha got it!
This is terrible...i need my birth certificate and or passport for a job FAST! URGENT!
VitalChek is pretty fast for birth certificates if you order them with UPS shipping.
Can i lie and say emergency for a dead relative ?????? Seriously
For those appointments you need proof and it has to be an immediate family member or spouse.
You can contact the state department for an urgent appointment around a couple of weeks before travel. You need to include proof of travel but you can get same day service. You may have to travel to an agency as there might not be one in your state or appointments might not be available in your city.
U stalll bad
Help mi kontek nambar
Crap.......we pay so much taxes to our government.....and what a crappy service we get in return. Pathetic!!!
Jesus, hurry up…just show us how to go through this step by step lol. Nobody cares about the extra information.
Great and clear information… thanks. 👍👏
Do the consulates provide urgent service for passport renewal?
For urgent service, Embassies or Consulates would only offer a 1 year Emergency Passport. If you want a normal passport after that, you would need to fill out a DS-5504 and send it to them or do that process in the US. Another option is to do a mail in renewal to the Embassy/Consulate which is prioritized over those who live in the US. No expedited processing is available but you would be able to get a regular passport.
@@michaelhorgan9525 thanks. "prioritized" means it takes couple of weeks? does embassy process regular passport onsite?
