Andrew! This is my first comment on your channel. I have to tell you, I totally resonate with you when you said you escape because of the trauma and there something better out there! Thank you for sharing your story!

I relate so much to this video. My husband and I are moving to Portugal, and as soon as we can, we want to renounce citizenship. We're not ultra wealthy, and it's not about money or taxes for us. Thanks for sharing a deeper dive into what motivated you.

An isolated encounter like this is a poor choice to make life long decisions. Example: if randomly his seatmate had a more worldly experience and had knowledge of Oslo would Andrew still be a US Citizen? I was on a train once in Bratislava and my seatmate had never heard of Newark airport...on that basis should I consider many Slovakians living in an insulated bubble?
@@halb37 I guess it may be part of the same issue, but my guess is statistically an American on a flight is more likely to be flying to a domestic destination (country it pretty big!) so maybe Oslo is more likely to be Oslo MN than the "real" one. (Although it depends where Andrew was flying to Newark from). But I suspect London which probably be assumed to be UK, Oslo is less familiar (which is also Andrew's point)
I sacrificed so much to move to America as a teenager. I left behind my entire family. The people who birthed me, fed me, loved me! 25 years later - as a father, husband, and business owner - I find myself wanting to leave. I feel like I am living inside a corporation, not a nation. A corporation where every individual experience has been boiled down to a transaction. This country is dumbing down its own citizens and draining them off of their resources, and using their blood, sweat, tears and their dignity, to destroy other citizens and nations around the world. At times it feels like living in a dystopian sci-fi movie.

I agree 100% with everything you said. I nearly left during the Vietnam war but instead stayed and protested. I did start traveling heavily after it ended. All over Europe and other. worked few months US then gone several months abroad. Now retired and with Norway citizenship/passport in hand. I can NOT give up my US citizenship because I would lose my monthly SS payment otherwise I would. The last job I had in US I went on my alowed 2 week vacation. Went to Greece and never returned.
I've lived and worked in the Caribbean and East Africa. In both places, I've always felt right at home. Coming "home" to the USA has always been a disappointment, on several levels, but the taxes were not the main reason.
I'm someone who has always known where Oslo is...my maternal grandmother was born there, and emigrated to America in 1912...and County Antrim, as well...my paternal grandfather emigrated to the USA in 1909...the rest of the story is that they met because they were both employed as staff in next-door stately homes in NYC. Since my grandfather was born in 1886 when Ulster was still Ireland, I applied for and gained my Irish Citizenship and passport in 2000. I have third cousins in Northern Ireland as well as in Norway...will visit them one day. That said, if I were to leave the USA for an extended period, I might go to Portugal or Spain for a bit, but would also go to live Switzerland due to the quality of their healthcare which is likely as good, or maybe better than where I live now in Northern Virginia. Given my "certain age," that's important for me now. Would I have to establish residency in Ireland before applying for temporary residence in another EU/Schengen country? Just curious...
I haven't been back to the US since I retired, I have no desire to ever go there again. For me it's a fly-over country. I dated a Muslim girl who was born in the U.S., graduated from Ohio state as a psychiatrist, lived 45 mins from a Great Lake and couldn’t tell me which direction the lake was based on where she lived nor the name of the lake. I don’t know why but I always found that incredibly odd. I never knew if I was being overly critical or if I was living in the matrix. Maybe it was one of those glitches or something. The Oslo story reminded me of her haha!
Just out of curiosity, if someone was to leave the USA with no intentions of returning and had transferred all his assets outside of the USA, what realistically would the US do if you just stop filing taxes? Without formally renouncing anything. I mean assuming you're not some high profile emigre, just some random shlub who wanted to live elsewhere.
IRS would probably sanction and garner/confiscate your assets to pay your tax bill. The other countries that govern your assets would likely comply with those orders because they don't want to face the ire of Uncle Sam.
You're basically asking what it is like to live abroad as an outlaw in the eyes of the US government. The less friendly your new country's government is with the US the less likely anything happens, but the US is a global power and they have their tentacles in all sorts of global dealings. You can google "accidental Americans" to see some horror stories about people who have never even set foot in the US dealing with the IRS.
Yeah, like if you had zero intention of ever travelling there again, what could happen to you if you stopped filing taxes with no assets in the US. good question.
@@brokenrecord3095 I honestly feel it’s similar to if you stayed in the US and didn’t pay back your student loans and only worked cash jobs or something. I mean aren’t student loans one of the largest debts our country has? If they went after everyone voraciously, this country would cave in. In the case you mentioned, I assume it’s up to the emigrating country to decide to report you or not considering you started working there or did something bad to get on their radar somehow.
I'm not a fan of the American culture myself. I've never felt that I've belonged. I'm a historian and love other countries, couldn't care less about US personally. Planning on travelling to Madeira Portugal. And hopefully move there :)
I’m a retiree, hellbent on leaving the insanity known as the USA. Tired of the hate, division, for-profit health system, puritan culture, selfishness, greed, hyper individualism, worship of guns and money….on and on. And now the madness of king trump. Currently working on making my escape. 2025 is my year!!
I endorse paying taxes for citizenship! One can take advantages of any country’s policies to better oneself! As for me being a refugee to the US when our country was lost in a devastating war, this is my home country! I love America and appreciate the policies put in place as well as everyone who fight for our freedom!
As a black man who left “ America” to live 3 months in 4 countries I would rather pay MORE tax if I had to just NOT to have to live in “ America “ !! 😂
What is your nationality? Black isn't a nationality as white isn't a nationality. Why generalize your nationality? There are black skinned folks all over the world as there are white skinned folks. I think we as humans contribute to social problems by generalizing ourselves. Sure I am a "white" guy but I'm of Western European decent. If I said "As a white guy" I'd be playing into someone else's game. It's called Divide and Conquer. These terms Black and White were created to divide us. I think people are starting to see the manipulation. I'm not trying to be an antagonist. I feel like America is just a tool for war and economic gain for the people who really control it. Division is how they keep control.
@ with out getting deep into the subject I use “ black “ because that is how your identified worldwide even in Africa regardless personal thoughts or facts we may have … I do agree with you that my ancestors were not “ labeled “ “ black “ and its a term made up by slave masters … I don’t argue religion or “ race “ but wanted clear up in short as form as possible
Middle class citizen here. As someone who does not have hundreds of thousands to spend on citizenship by investment for many of these places, but could potentially by a property somewhere would you recommend Belize as a place to try to escape to? For the time being I will have to continue to earn money from a US based job and the proximity allows me to return for work for a day or two when necessary.
Thank you for your question. In this recent article we discuss places to live for under $1000 per month: nomadcapitalist.com/finance/offshore/places-to-live/
@ thank you for your reply. I believe I have had a similar thought process in my life in becoming a libertarian but then realizing the best thing for me would be to simply escape this mess where a country has control over ever aspect of my life. I can get set up in an emerging country and hopefully get to live a more affordable life and set my daughter up to actually be able to afford property one day.
@@stevebishop3796 I have heard this as well. I just am not sure what is the definition of better. I do like the Caribbean atmosphere that Belize seems to have, but I know there are other more affordable places nearby as well. Ultimately it seems like because the word is a little bit out on Belize this is what is pushing those prices up, but it also makes be feel like it is a safer place to park money. I am ultimately unsure I just know that it does not seem like a wise plan to continue to try to build a life in the US
@jar1345 I would check the stats for safety, cost of living etc, to compare your shortlist with. Spend some time to think about what qualities are most important to you, because there is no "perfect" place. I looked into Belize about 10 yrs ago and crime was still a pretty sizeable issue. Infrastructure wast also weaker than other what I wanted to have
Thanks for sharing your story. I totally understand i never felt the U.S. was my home growing up either about 2 years ago I decided to move to South America and have been think about doing the same as you.
This is a good explanation, and at least in your personal case I agree that renouncing US citizenship was the correct thing to do. The only thing that I would somewhat push back on is that a US passport is very helpful for children who are growing up. The US still has excellent companies and universities, and being able to have that experience can be a large advantage for children/young adults. Then the kids can make their own decisions as well whether to renounce their US passports. So I would say to hold off on renunciation until you at least finished having children.
Even if you hate America, don't want to be controlled, or hate your U.S. identity, you don't have to renounce your citizenship. You can live overseas as an expat forever without making the terminal irreversible decision to renounce your citizenship.
Kinda harder to tax stuff like cryptos. and thats where the world will be heading. Especially privacy coins like monero where nobody can see what you spend, your balance or where you spend it. The genie is out of the bottle now, its just a matter of the public waking up and moving over to the new system before the fiat ponzi implodes.
I am with you living here in Mexico. I probably won't give up my citizenship as in 2 more years I draw SSI, get back some of what inlaid in. And taxes are not an issue anymore as basically retired running all our money through my Mexican wife. Even though I never cross no reason to give it up yet.
I must've given up my citizenship when I was a teenager because I have worked over 45 years here in the US and have never given the IRS a dime at the end of the year. The difference, I never signed consent forms like a W-2 or 1099. I've also never filed and signed an end of the year tax form where I swear I owe them any amount of money. Do not consent. Do all you can to not participate in their system. Hide all your assets. Never let them see what you really make.
@myronbourne6937 Oh, do you mean that PRIVATELY owned corporation that is based in Puerto Rico to avoid U.S. law, owned by City of London Corp and in no way a part of our government? Do you actually give these crooks your hard earned money?
Hi Andrew. I've been following your channel for a while and completely agree with your point of view on both personal and business sides. America does not provide for its own citizens. Healthcare is a leading cause of bankruptcy and each generation of children take out massive student loans and live with lifelong debt. I would like to see you extend your services to those looking to retire/relocate elsewhere that don't have 7 figure incomes. I looked into MM2H and it is very pricey and doesn't grant citizenship, only an extended visa. So don't you need another citizenship before giving up the US?
“… I get to choose my home.” When I tell my dad why I don’t vote and he says never talk to me about the problems of this country, I always tell him how invalid that logic is. _You_ vote, so you align yourself with a party and you vote for that party. If anyone does not get to argue, it’s YOU! I can talk trash freely about any of these politicians because I’m unaligned. I’ve never understood when people say that. I’m not neurodivergent, I’m just basic-level logic 101 and willing to change if I hear better logic. Either way, I’m working towards my exodus but I’m uninterested in expatriating. However, I am learning about legal loopholes on how to structure my reporting entities so that I can pay little to no taxes. Basically structuring my LLCs I use to wholesale and putting them under a foundation.
I don't know, I get why some people would renounce citizenship, but isn't there a deeper connection to your roots? Hard to let go of everything just because of bureaucracy.
Ozzie- i am frustrated with Australia and the direction we're headed. The first world is sadly loosing its principles of personal liberty . Im interested why Americans want to leave ? Where is better? I understand if you're wealthy you're punished in the west. Ive traveled and to find a package deal alternative that offers a better life - haven't found it . Can see Andrew's situation and view and agree with you on your points.
As much as I would love to denounce my American citizenship, I need the Social Security I paid into to survive. Denouncing would cancel my Social Security benefits.
I have seen other posts regarding loss of SS benefits. I looked it up and found: “No longer have rights and responsibilities as a U.S. citizen. But you may still be: Subject to tax payments; Eligible for Social Security benefits”. MAY STILL BE ELIGIBLE. Not very convincing.
I've turned in 65 and getting social security and Medicare. I can also apply for French citizenship as my mother is French. What would I loose if resign my US citizenship? Thank you.
In your words " Alot of butthurt people" The cultural spill over into Canada has been noticable , It's become a miserable country to live in . Love thy neighbor is a thing of the past in the west ...
Andrew, what’s your opinion on the recent move from Jordan Peterson to the USA and his statement: “anyone who’s succesfull and has some sense move to the US, everything is easier”.
Funny thing is, as a 12 year old watching the moon “landing”, I dreamed of moving to live in America. It took another 45 years for me to see the grift.
You do not need to give up on being American. You just need to leave the federal zone. The 14 amendment made us all US Citizens which means tax slaves. The problem was they didn't tell us how or why. No disclosure happened. It is still that way. You can become a citizen of your state ONLY. And still carry a US Passport
As an INFJ, I have always been repulsed by the "in-your-face" bullying of the U.S. ...mostly women. Loud and obnoxious and often vicious, women convinced me that the States are the place that advocates bullying. I've lived around the world and in 7 states since young. I've loved many global and kind cultures and still enjoy living abroad. The only reason I have retained my citizenship and still live in the States is because my siblings and their families are there. Otherwise, I would have left years ago for good. It's not a safe and fun place to live. As a culture, people are inherently angry, ignorant, and indignant compared to so many other countries.
I really appreciate the work that you do here. I would just like to say that there are two Oslo's in the United States. One in Florida and one in Minnesota. I appreciate the fact that you continue to make videos and decided not to give up on that. I hope all goes well with you and may you prosper in everything that you do. ¡God bless!
For libertarians one thing the US has is the best gun laws in the world!

For me I can’t understand you completely. Because I’ve been around the world , and in my opinion still there’s no place like America. Well at least south Florida . But each his own I guess
Nothing wrong with not paying lots of taxes! Governments top priority is amassing the wealth of the ordinary citizens and not the elites! Governments don't like people copying them! 😂
Well, everyone has an opinion. Let's see what the incoming administration accomplishes, and then subsequent administrations. Let's hope the incoming administration returns the government that's supposed to be by the people, for the people, back to the people.
I can't disagree with you and find all of your posts enlightening. I think America is declining, though you can still have the best of everything if you're willing to pay for it. I am sorely disappointed in the almost unbelievable ignorance and lack of worldly knowledge of most Americans and the absurdity of American politics today. However, I also think there is a role for government in investments for the collective public good with our tax money if only people were smart enough to hold their elected representatives accountable. I think America's education system has failed us. But I'm not ready to leave my home in a large American city now at 75 years old where I'm comfortable, enjoy family and friends, have some of the best goods, services, and entertainment available anywhere, have excellent healthcare with a Medicare Supplement Plan and social security, and am financially secure given my investments. I would consider moving to Europe or Southeast Asia if I were younger. Instead, I spend part of the summers vacationing abroad enjoying the many amenities that other countries offer. Then I'm happy to come home where I have all the creature comforts and nearly everything I need is practically at my doorstep. Again, thanks for sharing your experience and wisdom.

I echo the sentiment. We, as kids, can be vulnerable and cruel group. I teach my son not to do anything you wouldn't want done to you. It seems to somewhat correlate to the level of the persons education, too.

Good question
Different point of view. Refreshing to hear this 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Thank you, Andrew.

2025 is my year!!
very good wine :)
Living abroad may change your mind. It did for me.
If they can a start a war on taxation without representation, then you should abdicate your citizenship on absentee taxation.
@@LUCKHEF I understand. It is a common way to be described. I plan on leaving the USA in the future too. I hope everything goes well for you.

I have no direct knowledge but hear that there are better options aside from Belize. Do your research.

Hola Andrew, great story. Thanks for sharing. I agree go where you are treated best.
Thanks for watching!
I agree with him too 👍
The comparison of retaining one's citizenship to arranged marriage is very interesting -
I'll be thinking about that one.
I am still working through the analogy at the beginning.

Can someone collect social security if they renounce?
no
This is a good explanation, and at least in your personal case I agree that renouncing US citizenship was the correct thing to do.
You're wise man Mr AH👍
Thank you!
Even if you hate America, don't want to be controlled, or hate your U.S. identity, you don't have to renounce your citizenship. You can live overseas as an expat forever without making the terminal irreversible decision to renounce your citizenship.
Are you still able to collect social security after denouncing your US citizenship or do you forfeit it when you denounce your US citizenship?
This article dispels the most common myths about giving up American citizenship: nomadcapitalist.com/expat/myths-giving-up-american-citizenship/
From your PoV, will there be a one world tax? How will it be disguised to be palpable? Airfares are already taxed based on distance in the US.
Herein is Wisdom.

Andrew, I think you forgot one major 😅 country that also has citizenship-based taxation: Eritrea.
i wonder how they enfoce it...IF they do ;)
If I had a pocket full of Visas/passports it would create the possibilities; and yes I am working on that!
Getting primary residence in PR seems to be an easier solution
I love Sweden & Norway❤
“… I get to choose my home.”
When I tell my dad why I don’t vote and he says never talk to me about the problems of this country, I always tell him how invalid that logic is.
You could be technically correct and go vote, but cast a blank ballot 😅
Let the gripe-fest begin!
@ I love the way you think sir hahaha
One you pay any taxes ….you get the right to talk about ANYTHING in the country….because you contribute..
No it doesn't. Look it up.
I have seen other posts regarding loss of SS benefits. I looked it up and found: “No longer have rights and responsibilities as a U.S. citizen. But you may still be:
Subject to tax payments;
Eligible for Social Security benefits”.
MAY STILL BE ELIGIBLE. Not very convincing.
I heard they are ignoring applications to renounce. At this rate, I bet it will be impossible to renounce soon.
I've turned in 65 and getting social security and Medicare. I can also apply for French citizenship as my mother is French. What would I loose if resign my US citizenship? Thank you.
Dude, I withdrew 3k USD from my Elizzarda account yesterday. You should tell your subscribers about it so they can earn too
What do you mean by Descen?Meaning you had an ancestor that traveled from a country and naturalized?
Do libertarians pave roads?

In your words " Alot of butthurt people" The cultural spill over into Canada has been noticable , It's become a miserable country to live in . Love thy neighbor is a thing of the past in the west ...
Andrew, what’s your opinion on the recent move from Jordan Peterson to the USA and his statement: “anyone who’s succesfull and has some sense move to the US, everything is easier”.
That's a great question
for a racist and a fascist like peterson - yes, it is easier in US
i feel i don’t relate : i think i could not have better described it renounced a decade ago on a european passport, best decision in my life ❤
You’re a good man, Andrew. You escaped the BNAC (sibling of the BEIC and the BSAC)
Funny thing is, as a 12 year old watching the moon “landing”, I dreamed of moving to live in America. It took another 45 years for me to see the grift.
The issue with high net worth people is that we cannot renounce given the tax impact (exit tax). I’d gladly renounce if I could.
You said you weren't left or right but also stated you were libertarian in the same video lol
You do not need to give up on being American. You just need to leave the federal zone. The 14 amendment made us all US Citizens which means tax slaves. The problem was they didn't tell us how or why. No disclosure happened. It is still that way. You can become a citizen of your state ONLY. And still carry a US Passport
Would you consider founding a new country, likely in some place far from NYC or London, to establish your preferred citizenship. Name it "1%".
Why do Klaus and Bill send drones to NJ?
Rumors have it. Justin Trudeau is resigning? O Canada 🇨🇦
Wish I had your ideals when I was obsessed with politics
Nothing wrong with not paying lots of taxes! Governments top priority is amassing the wealth of the ordinary citizens and not the elites! Governments don't like people copying them! 😂
Well, everyone has an opinion. Let's see what the incoming administration accomplishes, and then subsequent administrations. Let's hope the incoming administration returns the government that's supposed to be by the people, for the people, back to the people.

Your a legend 🥂 🍾
