Why is this not a hit #1 song across this country! What musicianship! what lyrics! Nashville is deaf, dumb and blind for pumping out that cliche pop country crap! This Band rocks! Go see them live, what a PARTY! We saw them at the Troubadour in L.A. where all the greats have played.
Nashville is heading in a direction that I do not want to go with the music that I listen to. Thank God we have RUclips to find the decent music that is still alive and well. I am from St. Louis and decided long ago that underground music is the way to go.
Kimberly Blair I have seen turnpike 6 times.....and have told everyone about them.....just like I did with Chris Stapleton and the steeldrivers....sometimes people don't want to listen
I’ll get to see them twice next Thursday and Saturday, they’re from a small town near Tulsa so we’re expecting full house both days. And we will have journey + Toto inbetween those days
AWESOME song! I really love the Turnpike Troubadours, and I personally think this video sums up their style. this is REAL country music, not the pop "country" or rap junk that's all the craze. I really dont see why it hasnt hit the billboard hot 100 charts! its songs like these that go in the books. I am going to see Turnpike Troubadours in milwaukee in december. $60, but definetly worth the show. Also, I am only 15, and I also dont see why teens are getting into this amazing music. God Bless Turnpike Troubadours. Great American country band, great American country music.
@Greg-gc5tb first off I can’t believe I’m seeing that you’re 15 and your name is Greg!!! I’m Greg but 45 years older than you , and I haven’t ever met a “young Greg “ like ever !! So really cool to see that , Secondly for 15 you’ve got Excellent taste in music!!!! Wish there were ALOT MORE like you out there !!!

I dont care whats popular, im just listening to whats good. Im sure glad you appreciate the good music in life @gd6349 👍
The electric guitar part during the second verse is one of my favorite guitar parts anywhere. Along with that, the vivid depiction of launching an old truck (or car) over the train tracks in the middle of the night really resonates with my high school days.
Not sure why but for some reason I picture a 69 Chevelle when I hear that part of the song. I just know whatever it is it's old because cars don't have wing vents anymore
my grandmother had an old sign in her kitchen with the title of this tune on her wall for years.....true then, true now........and what a smokin hot song!!!!!.....Lord bless ya boys....cheers
I still can not believe that there are only 2.3 mil views of this outstanding recording... This might be the most flawless live video ever recorded... every instrument, vocals included, just unbelievable. Evan makes the singing and playing look like a walk in the park and is the sole reason I finally took the focus off of my fret hand to put some real thought into strumming. I can't wait for you guys to come up to Canada.
They guy on the fiddle..wow! He is awesome. Not sure who he is but he has inspired me to pick one up and start learning. Thank you whoever you are man!

One of the greatest bands to come along in some time , saw them in Flagstaff, everyone in the place knew every word to every song , it was inspiring
they were just in AZ? !?!? damn missed it!!!
Even in San Francisco this year - they sold out the Fillmore and the crowd knew all the words.

They're heading east depending where you're at. I'll be in Knoxville April 23rd. Can't hardly wait.
Thanks. They are also playing Philadelphia. I found out a few days after I left that comment. Pretty stoked.
Protip: theres 4 albums, but "Bossier City" isn't very easy to find.

If i had to choose one song and couldn't listen to anything else for the rest of my life, this would be the song.
I can't stop watching this video
Well he was pushing 80, but he acted 22
He could laugh and drink just like his grandchildren would do
There was square hay on the meadow, second cutting of the year
Well his summer work was over once they got the pasture cleared
They were drinking on the big bluff across the river from the field
Well he walked up to the edge and threw a stone in and he kneeled
And he looked down at the water, he said boys I'm going in
They were cheering when he jumped but he did not come up again
[Chorus:]
Well raise another round boys and have another glass
Be thankful for today knowing it will never last
Still lets leave the world laughing when our eulogies are read
May we all get to heaven 'fore the devil knows we're dead
May we all get to heaven 'fore the devil knows we're dead
Well it was 20 after midnight, they were going 85
She was barely out of high school wanting bad to feel alive
Just a two lane piece of blacktop, a snakey stretch of road
Well the wind blew through the wing vents, it was clear and fresh and cold
Well the driver killed the headlights and he put the throttle down
When they hit the railroad crossing they were five feet off the ground
Just a-screaming through the midnight 'til they came down again
Well the front tire hit a bar ditch, they went end over end
[Chorus]
Well I'm twenty eight years old now, I was born in '84
And I've been free as I can be and I won't ask for anymore
So let the fiddle play a hoedown after I've drawn my last breath
Well tell everyone I know that I loved them all to death
[Chorus]
May we all get to heaven 'fore the devil knows we're dead
May we all get to heaven 'fore the devil knows we're dead
