Masterpiece. Wow. How have I never heard that?! It's awesome that at 40 with a lifetime of music behind you, U can still find something new and wonderful.
I got to see these guys in 2005 at Green Man festival. They sat around a campfire and played songs until 6:00am the next morning non-stop. Such a great memory.
Their focus is my favorite part, you can physically see the passion these guys have. I have no qualms playing this song on repeat for an entire drive home, singing loudly and howling the whole way.
I'm going through some dark shit and I find myself here... every time I'm in this place in my head, I'm here, listening to this song. I had a nice cigar a week ago, went for a drive out to the coast at one AM and just sat on a bench listening to TBT and enjoying the few things life hasn't tainted with it's bullshit yet: my cigar vice, my time alone and some of the best music ever played. I love this song more than I can possibly express.
This was one of the favorite songs of my dear friend Jenny, who disappeared and has not been seen or heard from in almost seven years. Love and miss you, Brown.
i love how the song/video/cinematography work together in this compilation. someone commented saying they should slow the song down... i disagree so seriously. the pace is almost the best part of this song, not to mention what it adds to the video. the light gleaming off of the sweat on their foreheads, feet stomping on the ground, trying to keep up with the beat, fingers picking strings so fast that they just look like a blur. that's extreme, extreme talent.
@Victoria Harris Your comment here makes me think that you were an alien, and you morphed into a human, and you had made this comment on your first day on earth, because you were just so excited about learning the English language, and like you just said a bunch of random stuff.
Yeah, and it looks like it was maybe shot on 16mm also, with not very fast film. Low res and gritty.... The depth of field is so short that at points the singer just moves his head a little and goes out of focus. There's the sense that the music is pushing past the limits of what can be captured....
I was out trout fishing and my buddy played a few songs and this song is stuck in my head! It's was a good day! I caught a 30 pound lake trout! Now I have something to hang on my way! I waited so long!!!!!!
Best memory to this song. Speeding down gravel roads in a dump truck doing around 45. Watching the fence post fly by faster and faster. The driver stops the truck and starts dancing. I'm a city boy soaking up the country culture. Speeding past the cows eating grass while on grass. Your music matched the scenery, prrrrrrfectly.
JENALEE, Russ n I will ALWAYS LOVE N MISS YOU...RIP MY BEAUTIFUL, SWEET ANGEL. i THINK ABOUT YOU everyday, thank you for showing us these guys b4 you left this Earth way too young. You have a special place in my heart. I miss you babe
I love this song so much. It was introduced to me by a friend and co-worker on an archaeological dig. We'd listen to music on site and in the van, driving. This will always evoke that time in my life.
my buddy is from duluth and his pa gave lessons to many of these guys when they were younger. mr downing was his name. without him, no trampled maybe....
As a 30 year old geezer, I can absolutely say TbT was an absolutely integral part of my 18-22 life. Saw ya'll 3 times, and each was better than the last.
Is it just me or are all guys laser focused on their instruments, praying they'll get through this insane Formula 1 race of a song and taking their hands and instruments to the limits of speed and musical possibility, while Simonett just looks like he's only paying attention half the time and probably mostly thinking about his next hunting trip?
When I bought my first banjo 7 or so years ago my buddy showed me this song and challeneged me to learn it. I watched it, loved the song, laughed at the idea of me ever playing like that. Little does he know that I am biding my time and will get it up to speed one day and ‘in your face him’. At the moment I can do half. Half the speed they start at that is.

As a life long metal and punk fan, I am really enjoying this new style of bluegrass inspired music.

check out "kentucky" by panopticon. bluegrass inspired black metal about coal miners.
Me too!
There is a definite punk infusion here.

I'm convinced every single one of them made a deal with the devil for the powers they possess.
The devil went down to Georgia because he wouldn't dare step to the boys from the North.
Isn't that how all musicians achieve fame?
Or a deal with the local Dr.... Adderall....
Well they might have when the devil went to Georgia

Thank you Duluth for this amazing band.
… I could never pretend that I don't love you
You could never pretend that I'm your man
That's exactly the way that I want it
That's exactly the way that I am
… And you call me in the morning with your troubles
Takin' it downtown every night
I could never place the stars at night above ya
I got my hands on the ground
And you know I'm right
… You wait so long
You wait so long
You wait so long
You wait so long
… It's a coffee stained earth ever time it happens
Liven up honey it ain't that bad
Any afterthought rose to recognition
Like every other coffin that I had
… And your Buick broke down in Winnemucca
Fall to your knees and you pray to the lord
Then you take up hope at the politicians
Nothing happens in this burnt out town anymore
… You wait so long
You wait so long
You wait so long
You wait so long
… And your hollows on like a frozen freight train
You know that I help you if I can
But I'm just a raindrop in a river
Just a little itty-bitty grain of sand
… And you know that I'm doomed to repeat this
With all the bad habits that I've learned
But it's better than your fiber 'n fornication
And all the dirty money that you earn
… You wait so long
You wait so long
You wait so long
You wait so long
… You wait so long
You wait so long
You wait so long
You wait so long

This is like if speed metal was played on a banjo, fiddle, and a guitar in standard tuning without distortion.
