I bought a 16' GT350 Tech with 30k miles 3 months ago. All stock. My first manual T! I see a little oil consumption with no track use. I only do light pulls up to 6k RPM, over that and its a jet engine!🏁

    Same here with my 2020
    Only one thing to watch
The valve cover gaskets get loose and need to be re-torqued every oil change.
And Amsoil lasts a lot longer than Ford. The oil % drops very slowly.
No loss of oil. Though the oil cap also came off.
Gen 2 motors also have more hp
Check out motor trends dyno tests...
50 more hp more and 20 ft lbs of torque.

Got a 17’ and it burns about 1/2 qrt. Every 1000 miles. 13k miles on her. Still running strong. I think running it in high RPMs (6000-8250) in 2nd gear and running it hard up the mountain (tail of the dragon) several times a year is the reason. I still wish it didn’t burn at all...

    • @pohump

I had a 16 base track pack and 17 R and they both burned about 1 qt every ~1000 miles. I DDed both (about 65 mi/ day). I just bought a 2020 R so this video makes me hopeful.

I am watching this because I bought a Mach 1 in June and it’s using just about 14-16 oz every thousand miles. I switched to Amsoil signature series at 1,000 miles. That means at 5,000 mile oil change intervals it’ll use a full 12 quarts between changes.

4:34 even Porsche recommends changing your oil after each track day. Oil is cheap and that Voodoo engine is a $23,000 engine just for the long block. I knew a ford tech that had to replace one under warranty that came in with no oil pressure after track use. He showed me the slip from parts $23,000 is a lot of oil changes.

I got a gen 2 motor after my 2017 motor started burning 4+ qt per thousand miles..
I went into ford , showed my oil receipts and mileage and they said don't worry , they wouldn't dick me around " yes i asked lol"
Next day they called and said ford authorized a new motor " my old one still ran so I didn't think they would help me ..
So from the time I dropped it off till I got it back was only 3 days ! I asked them to send me photos of the process so I can put them in my mustang folder.. And to please confirm with me that the new motor was a gen 2 before it went in ..
They sent me photos of the engine sticker and it was indeed a gen 2 ..
Ordered motor first day I came in .. Got it there over night the first day . The second day they pulled the old motor and on the 3rd day they put the new motor in ..
Day 3 they called me to come see it drive out of the shop and pick her up .. Even let me drive it out myself ..
Concord ford in NC .. I think it's called young ford ..
Love those guys , no dicking around with Warrenty .. Plus I think it's the all time record to get a Shelby back .. I've heard of other people's cars taking a month or more.. Bring your business to young ford friends .. They went way above and beyond to make me a part of the process and my car drives wonderfully ..
Once again thank you young ford for stepping up to the plate ! I'll be back when I buy my next ford ..

Jeff I have a 2018 GT350 with a late year build date. I followed break-in procedure and period to the letter. Installed oil separators at around 500 miles. Had no oil consumption issues, albeit with pretty conservative driving. Changed oil at 1K miles. Sent to Blackstone for analysis. Analysis came back clean, which was very comforting. I now have a little over 2K miles on it and still no oil consumption issues. Plan to do another oil change fairly soon since the car isn’t a daily driver and it’s been a little over a year since the 1K mile change. Will send to Blackstone again for analysis to see what it looks like. I figure if that comes back clean I am pretty safe, but knowing your experience and others it’s a bit like holding your breath and crossing your fingers and praying all at the same time. I also wanted to comment on the new style filters. I completely agree with you, The new ones with the metal framework seem about 1000% better made than those others with the floating plastic piece in them. I remember the first time I picked it up I thought it had a defect😂. Love the mods you have made and the track vids are awesome. Keep pushin’ that thing hard👍

Jeff I tried the UPR drain plug and IMO I'd just stick with the OEM. They are cheap and no headaches. They also seem like they click into the pan detents a little better. I replace mine every-other oil change.
My UPR plug launched the magnet into the oil pan. OK fine, I'll just use it without the magnet. But at that point what's the use?

'17 GT350 here @ 9500 miles (8k of those in the past year) getting 1/2 to one quart per 1000 miles. Maybe less? Which seems reasonable to me with any high strung engine like this. Using Amsoil. FP oil separators installed. I've been sending my oil out to Blackstone for every change. I've had the oil in there for as long as 6 months with a track day and daily driving and the numbers come back good. Blackstone suggests I let it go even longer but I think I'm comfortable doing an oil change every 6~ months give or take. One in the spring and one in the fall feels about right. Screw doing it in the cold lol I do have the piston slap sound from 2k-3k RPM under light throttle as well.

  • @neildesai21

Would really recommend the Blackstone Analysis. It can tell you if excessive wear is happening to the engine from say high oil temps (low viscosity)!

my 2011 5.0 drinks a lot of oil. I am worry about it but I do beat up on it. My car tells me when it's thirsty because it doesn't feel as smooth when going up the revs. That's when I check and add oil as needed. I don't see it as an issue. My 5.0 has close to 100k miles and not a single issue. It still beats 6.4 Hemis with nothing more than a tune, slip on exhaust and a K&N filter. I think most GT350 owners that have issues do so because they don't take good care of their cars. Yeah, it's a track ready car, however that does not mean you just have to drive it like a maniac without checking something as easy as oil consumption.

    • @justinjacobs5777
      @justinjacobs5777 4 года назад

Ford standard says that the gt350 can burn 1 qt every 500 MI ..
.So ford indicated in their Shelby supplement that 2 qt per thousand miles was totally fine ..
I was ok adding a qt per 500 MI but the consumption went to 4 and 5 qt and I took it in and they dropped a new gen 2 voodo in it ..
So drive it like u stole it my friends .. Have fun with ur gt350 . Just keep the oil topped off ..
. If you let the oil level get too low and the motor gives up ford will not Warrenty you .. So keep driving and keep the oil level up if. It gets worse they will fix it ..
It will drink more oil over time .. When it starts to consume more then 1qt per 500 mo they will fix it . So 99% sure that you will get a new motor once it gets worse.. It happened to my 2017 and now it has a gen 2 voodo in it and drinks no oil , none .. Gen 2 motors started to be made in early 2019.. They have parts ford was using in its predator motor . They were strengthened at least 80% .. Pistons , rings, valve spring and seals, rods, timing chain components and even a new motor casting to add strength .,,

My 2017 Gt 350 consumption is about a quart every 850 miles with the Ford oil. Did an oil consumption test and Ford said that is normal. I then switched to Amsoil and now I have to put 1/2 to 1 quart in every 1200 miles. That stupid dip stick is sometimes hard to read.Only Ford does my oil change. No tune ( too afraid). Only mod are lighter wheels ( 9 pounds lighter per corner) which made a noticeable difference in acceleration. I now have 41500 miles on it . It’s daily driven.

I change oil first time at 1K miles. Engine consumes just a bit of oil, prob same amount as it was in the catch can. The second oil change at 5K and no oil consumption. My is 2019 GT350 with gen2 motor. IMO there is a reason why gen2 doesn't consume much oil. In gen2 engine Ford beefed up cylinders wall. Hence, blow-by is not as significant as in gen1 engine.

SuperChief5 damn man sorry to hear, mine was drinking way more at the end of its life span but my personal opinion would be to purchase an extended warranty if you plan on keeping it for the long haul. The variance of practically consuming none to consuming 2+ quarts doesn’t seem right to me either.
