My 2017 GT350 with the GEN 2 motor has had almost no issues. Oil pressure sensor and a A/C condenser were the two items fixed early on. I almost never drive this car on the street. Almost all track miles. I change engine oil trice a season and all the other fluids annually. (Prior to track season) I experience a power drain if I don’t drive it for a few weeks and that’s killed two batteries. Keeping it in a tender seems to be the solution but I’ll have the wiring harness looked at/tested! Your experience with the car sucks! Sorry to hear that. Hope that what you’ve done solves the issues and makes it fun to own again.
Good video! I bought my gen2 2019 in late 2020 with new tires and 6k miles for $58k from a Ford dealer as a CPO car. I daily’d it for first two years and I still love the car and use it once or twice a week. After reading stuff about the car on forums, I purchased a ESP warranty from a Ford dealer out east before the 3/36 warranty expired. I got the Basic one (drivetrain, major electrical/alternator, all a/c components, all suspension and steering components, brakes, minus pads and rotors covering until 2029 or 100k miles for $1,700. Great deal, I think. . It developed a vibration on the clutch pedal at 16k miles. Dealer got Ford to put in new flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and slave cylinder bearing under warranty. Fixed the vibration. At 25k miles a high pressure a/c line burst (common, I hear). Nothing else, so far. I’m sure the a/c compressor will eventually go. I change oil every 5k miles… consumes less than a quart during that time. I don’t track it, but a couple times a year it gets the curvy hill country treatment and will rev to 8k on occasion. I’m not selling it anytime soon; has 30k miles now. Just too satisfying to drive.
Excellent video, he absolutely nailed every point. I own a 2017 Gt350, bought used from a local dealership. I bought the car with 25k miles, and it is my daily driver at the moment and currently has 55k miles on her, 7k miles being “new engine” miles. Bought a similar if not the exact same warranty about 2 months into ownership, as i had read the horror stories before and after purchasing the car, and the only people who were saved and still enjoying their cobras were the people with the warranty!!! And its a good thing a did, oil consumption issues on the Gen 1 w engine. Took 5 months to sort everything out with the ford dealership and warranty but new Gen 2 engine and radiator for a $100 deductible and the cars been fantastic ever since. Even with the crazy gas mileage and insurance (insurance is not even that bad tbh), i hope i always retain this car and jeep it running, and eventually garage it, and with proper maintenance and care, i believe that can be possible. Lookin forward to more videos!
Thanks for making this video man, I purchased a 2017 350 back in October. I’ve had that anxiety driving it since I bought it and knowing the issues with the engine. I ended up getting an extended warrant just so I can sleep at night haha. Thanks for all the info.
Best down to earth review on a used GT350, well worth the watch, especially for the ESP info, was looking for an extended warranty for my F250, you just saved me $700! Just dumped a 2020 Dodge ScatPack, currently considering a 2022 used GT350 under 10K miles or a new DarkHorse with track package just under MSRP. Don’t plan to track it much, I have a 2004 Z06 that is my primary track car, would be interested to get your view on a choice, Thanks!
I’d say just take the initial depreciation hit on a new dark horse and send it. Those things box stock are incredible and if you are tracking it all you need to worry about are consumables which will not void any warranty. I would go as far as making sure you put Motorcraft oil in it every oil change so if they do end up replacing the engine, there is no evidence of any other oil being used, not that you have to but better safe than sorry.
Great video! I bought a 2018 gt350 a year ago with 12k miles on it. I’ve put about 2k miles on it and so far it has been great. The engine isn’t consuming oil thankfully and it drives and shifts awesome. About 6 months ago I did buy a powertrain warranty for it though through ford just for piece of mind. I can deal with any other issues myself. It’s such a fun car to own and drive though I love it.
The main thing is keep a check on the oil. The issues come from consumption and people not checking their oil and running it hard low on oil. That is what pops these motors 95% of the time. You keep oil in it and maintain it it'll be fine.
Man, great video. The video helps to ease the grief that I have from selling my 2019 GT350 just two days ago. Mine had 13.5k miles on it, was garage kept and was by far the most satisfying vehicle I have ever owned or probably will ever own. The only had two issues that were fixed under warranty; a shifter recall, and a rear half shaft boot had a tear in it. I toyed with the idea a few times about installing a supercharger, but held off for a variety of reasons such as potential resaleability, warranty compliance, and reliability. In the end, I only sold it to cover the cost of a new vehicle. If I would have kept it, I would have definitley purchased an extended warranty. To me, the car actually exceeded my expectations so selling it was very bitter sweet. Regarding your GT350, I know you have no evidence of it, but to me, the types of catastophic failures you have experienced would lead me to believe that your car had been supercharged at some point and then later reversed to maintain resale value. However, it sounds like you should be in good shape now. Thanks for the video!
thanks for the comment i never thought about someone putting a supercharger then taking it off for resale value ughgghg . I met someone who purchase a gt350 with supercharge whipple . I wonder now if he having problem with the gt350 now .
Dude great review. I appreciate it. I have a 2017 and I have so much anxiety every time I go for a rip. I try to tell myself to chill and enjoy it but Its always in the back of my head😂
I appreciate it! I talked to a guy that sold his 2018 last year locally and I was considering selling it since he managed to get 55 for his and it was an original Gen 1, lower miles but not mint by any means
@@RSProduction18 I don’t agree with that statement. Many are out there with high mileage. If you let the oil warm up to 175° before revving, it will last. It you track or run it hard install the oil balancing lines to get better lubrication and cooling to cylinder 8.
@@RSProduction18 I've seen gen 1s north of 100k miles. The engine has flaws, and a lot of people who bought these cars did not maintain them. It's not a regular mustang, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. Change the oil, monitor the oil, and let it come up to temperature.
That’s what makes me hesitant and I’m really leaning towards just getting a 2022 or a brand new 24 Gt just to make sure it’s in warranty because I don’t need a car for power that revs out to 8500 as my STI does that but I would daily the GT because the STI stays parked in the garage that being said I just want another v8 just for the sound really. I would love a 350 but a dark horse is not far off in price as a low mile 2018+ 350.
@E85_STI don't get an s650 man. Plenty of better ways to go it doesn't have to be new. The new ones have alot of issues as well. Newer don't mean better. Don't do the s650 man.
@user-mf4gz3sp1q I you'd expect it to be at 46k but apparently some have issues early on. I think some of it is owner caused issues. They don't stay on top of checking their oil and general maintenence. Im sure there are some fucked up ones out there w issues like anything else.
Bought a 2019 and love it. Always wanted a Mustang since I was a kid, but just never did until I was 59. I purchased a Ford ESP a week before the original warranty expired and I'm so glad I did! No issues yet, but I do have the loud A/C compressor issue so I'll be taking it into Ford to fix that. Never tracked it and I drive it fairly easy except for a few pulls every so often. I just love driving it on windy mountain roads. On my 2nd set of Sport Cup 2's and about to buy my 3rd set at about 17,200 miles. It's never been driven in the rain.
I bought new an early 2016 GT350. Died on the test drive, sales manager said “it’s just out of gas don’t worry”. Take delivery 5 days later it died again with 18 miles on the clock. 6 weeks in the shop and tracked issue down to a jbad wiring harness. At 2000 miles the oil dipstick was dry, was the famous oil consumption issue. At that time Ford said this was normal due to it being a high performance engine and just top up the oil at every gas fill up. At 3000 miles the active exhaust failed, got an all new exhaust system. At 3500 miles pistons rattled sounded like a VW Jetta diesel at cold start. Ford again said this was normal in some GT350’s. After two years of issues I sold the car. The Worst part of the experience is I traded in my Dodge Viper for a newer / better car and regret doing that every day.
Bought my '19 in the winter. Drove in the day after a huge blizzard on balding tires from Nashville to Ohio. Passed many cars on the side of the road. I got a aftermarket warranty. No issues.
Aaaaaand this is why I am in the process of trading my 2018 GT350 for a 2022 Mach 1. I've never had any problems, but my ESP warranty will expire in June of 2026 and there's no way I want to own it out of warranty. Just like you, I will be riddled with anxiety and not able to enjoy the car. The good news is that I timed in almost perfectly. I paid 49k in July 2020 just before everything went crazy and I am getting 56k on trade. The dealer is taking my car, giving me the Mach 1 and a $3,000 check. Cancelling my ESP warranty should yield another $800ish. So, my car and almost 4 grand and I get a Mach 1 with 3500 miles.
You had me at the statement "I'm going to go have wings and get drunk cuz this car is going to cost me a million dollars again" BTW, any wife that would support you with anything resembling that statement is a keeper.
The GT350 is such a beautiful car and i was dead set on buying one until i started researching all the issues. I ended up going with a Mach 1 thinking the Coyote will be more reliable. Hopefully I am right.
I’ve had my 2017 GT350 since new. 7 years and 40k miles with no issues. It’s been a great car. I’m sorry you’ve had these issues. What a bummer and it would definitely sour me.
Thanks! I looked into picking one of these up and did my due diligence. Found too many large potential issues for me to feel good about it so I passed. Glad I did. To put this into perspective, I'm also an Audi guy and those things can reach scary $ fast if something breaks. Right now I'm down to 3 vehicles and shifting my focus to muscle cars from the late 60s early 70's. Something that I can work on or won't cost me an arm and a leg if it breaks.
It's fairly well documented the first 2 years of the GT350 (but not the GT350R) had coolant issues resulting in the piston #7#8 failures you mentioned and in subsequent years the issue was addressed.. Glad you got it fixed under warranty.
Great video, ive tried talking myself into buying a GT350 for some time. No luck so far but this information is helpful. You always hear about the issues owners have and its nice to have the curtain pulled back and all of us to see just how much trouble one of these can be. I still want one so i guess im stupid but thank you for the honest review!
You hear all about bad stories but when people don't have issues they're less likely to post about it...the negative reviews are always louder they say. If that makes sense.
Great watch. Bummer to hear about your issues. When you buy your desired "race car", it's suppose to bring you joy. With that said, it reminds me of the adage "cars are pain", so I guess it just comes with the territory sometimes. Hope it's better for you here on out! One thing is for sure, those GT350s are damn good looking cars.
I watched the whole video. It's great to hear from an owner that honestly shares his experience. I too love my 2019 GT350. I haven't had any issues with at all so far. It currently has 13k on the clock. I think since it's never been tracked that might be the difference. I'm not saying that the car shouldn't be tracked because that's what I believe it's built for. There's just usually consiquences to racing them. I also did a ton of research before I bought it. I bought used and it was a certified pre-owned that had no major mods. Just the ones that should have been done by the factory like the oil catch cans and hood shocks. I also got the extended warrenty through Ford called "Ford protect". The FBA Gold plan is a 72/60k along with the FBA powertrain 84/100000k for just under $3000. I too agree that all that could or does go wrong with these cars is worth it. I've owned several cars in my life. A 2012 STI, 2013 Challenger SRT, 2007 Z06 Vette, 2007 AMG SL55 and a 2012 Camaro ZL1. Some of those cars were faster but none of them delivered the type of driving experience that the GT350 does. If you don't smile stepping out of that drivers seat you should go get yourself a Prius.
Wow that a common problem, my son had all the same issues, and they were guessing on it , changing sensors and alternator 2 times. You would think with them having this problem they could share their knowledge and fix the car right the first time
Great video, I was in the market for either a used GT350 or manual Zl1. Both cars used are around the same price. Drove both. After doing my research and seeing how crazy reliable 19+ Zl1s are, I bought a 2019 Zl1 6 speed for $57k with 12k miles a few months ago. Tons of stangs where I live, not many Camaros. Love both cars, just one handled better, has 150hp more, and is more reliable..The 350 sounds better though!
Hell yeah brother congratz! I would have went with a ZL1 if they were that cheap a few years ago! Good to know though, I'll give the Shelby another year or two... who knows
Wonderful review, you know your stuff. Sry you had to go thru all that. I hear you about now you are feeling nervous driving it after all you have been thru. A friend of mine was talking about getting a gt350 or gt500 while I only have a GT. I warned him about the engine issues with the Predator motor.
I’ve been having the same thoughts. You can get a pretty nice 13 or 14 GT500 and do a few minor bolt ons and make good power! Plus I like straight line so the live axle is a plus for me. The GT350 sounds and looks a lot better but not worth all the headaches some of these owners have been having, blah.
Thank you for the reality check brother haha. I've been wanting to trade in my 15 GT premium for a GT350 but I think I'm gonna go the Raptor route. Thanks man. It's a special car for sure!
This is a really great video. Also good to gear a gen 2 video story. No BS, so thank you for sharing the full experience. I have 2016 GT that I treat as a weekend car(bought new), have done probably 10 track days with it. Its pretty solid. I've had the itch to go grab a Gen 2 350R. I know I will absolutely love the car, but man, the risks are so high it seems. If I can get an extended warranty then that's a different story. I've been drooling over the 350 since I bought my GT. I remember in 2020 right before stupid car prices started, there was a brand new 350 track package in Bellevue for 48K....Yes, 48K. I will forever be mad that I didnt buy it.
@Varg, the main question I guess that you didnt answer is, does the car give you enough joy driving it that you find it worth the headaches you've gone through?
@@DonPatr0L wow 48k for a 2020 that’s incredible. I kick myself now seeing what low mileage mint conditions 2020 models are going for. to answer your question yes, this car is absolutely incredible and scratches every itch I could ever need from an enthusiast car. having said that as long as the warranty keeps me covered I won’t change my opinion. No car is worth going more than its value in debt for!
@@VS666 you mentioned the extended warranty option in your video. I'm playing with the idea of getting a really low mileage 2019 R and safely assuming it's off the manufacturer warranty. Is that one you mentioned covering 350 owners from what you've looked into?
I'm in the same boat. I have a 2016 GT (bought new also) which is in mint condition as it's a weekend car (under 14K miles). I've only ever had to do oil changes, still got original brakes that still bite really good. Have been tempted to get a GT350 so many times but videos like this always scare me away as I have had no issues with my GT.
@@jaysworld5378 You and I are pretty much the same. Mine is a PP1 with the FP track handling pack that I put on it. Its a great car. I've done probably 10 hours of track time with it. Just oil on the engine/trans/diff. Brakes, and hubs. The car has been completely reasonable. Im terrified of the failure of the GT350. I did find out today though that actual extended warranties can be approved after the manuf has expired. Through ford. I just got a quote for an R. 3 years/18k miles is $2,200. Im feeling confident
Great video. My head is spinning from all of the issues you’ve experienced. I had a ‘16 I bought new. I loved it, but dumped it before anything happened… I don’t have the stomach for major failures, and seemed to me it was only a matter of time. Good thing you’ve had the warranty in place. Enjoy yours for as long as you can. Definitely a fun driving car!
I just bought a low milage 16. I hope it wasn't yours..lol BTW I did purchase the Extended Warranty. Love the car but I wish I knew more about it before I jumped into it. You just can't beat the thrill of the drive and the sound of that engine. it's intoxicating.
Thanks for the video. It just confirms my decision to go with a LS7 Z06 Corvette instead of a GT350. I heard the GT 350s were plagued by numerous problems Gen one and GEN two. I went ahead and fixed my valve guides and changed my harmonic balancer, and all I have is loads of fun with the Z06.
In my experience the extended warranty is 100% worth it. Bought a C5Z a few years ago. I bought a bumper to bumper 3yr/36k mile warranty with it. Let’s just say the car isn’t stock anymore and most of the labor was covered under warranty. The warranty was well worth the 3k I paid and even was worth the price of the car in terms of labor and parts replaced
Great video man. I've had my 2017 new. Got a gen2 motor from Ford, replaced starter. But other than that 60k miles and 35k of them boosted and no issues yet and hope no others. Ac still fantastic, and I live in south TX so I need it.
I still miss my 350, had a 2016 in red. Amazing sound, crazy fun to drive but burned 1L of oil per 350km’s on average so it had to go unfortunately. Still one of the best handling cars I’ve owned.
NVH kills everything, I've owned a gt350 and 350r before picking up a 500. Ford switched their road race programs back to a cross plane crank after 2 seasons because literally everything was buzzing off the engine. They did their best at trying to minimize the vibrations that we feel, but they are still there and it effects everything attached to the engine. The dual mass flywheel was their effort to reduce that vibration to the trans, it isn't enough.
mustang was my dream car in general, and gt 350 in particular, especially for 8250 rpm, i was about to sell my v8 8250 rpm audi rs5 and buy gt 350, god protected me for not doing that. thank you for your valuable input
I'm currently debating a 2016 GT350 with the track package and a Whipple supercharger. The car looks clean with just over 10,000 miles. Do you have any thoughts on running these cars with the Whipple?
My advice was to not buy these out of warranty and/or with forced induction on them. Low miles considering I still wouldn't do it, it's all fun and games until you have to replace this engine or get any work done on it. Most shops won't touch these unless they're a performance shop.
I wouldn't do it unless that was something you planned to do in long run and you're getting everything cheap. Personally, I have been looking at 03-04 Cobra's, GT500's, GT350's, right now I am stuck on a 2012 GT500 I found for 35k and low miles that's factory down to the mufflers. 2012 GT500's are hidden gems in my book, you get the aluminum block, basically all issues from 07-10 have been worked out with the 5.4. You get 550HP right out of the box, but with basic upgrades, and cams(I want cams) you can have over 600 to tire and get that classic American v8 lope with cams installed... no need for silly ghost cams or trying to do lockout kits to get the lope. Plus, they're very affordable! Basically, same price as a gen3 coyote car with low miles. Also, you swap taillights of a 12 and it looks just like a 13-14, in my book it's win - win.
"Knock on wood" Mine's a 2016 with almost 60000 miles. A/C issue, but that's it. Race cars don't need A/C..Besides that, it's an amazing car. Best car I have ever had/driven and I've had some nice cars, over 70 cars to date.
Fun video, thanks for sharing. I bought my 2016 Hell Cat used with 9k miles, and after learning the supercharger was 8k by itself, I got the bumper to bumper coverage with Mopar. Only issue so far was the backup camera.
8k for a stock blower is fucking retarded as hell I paid 3500 brand new for w vmp gen3r 2650 tvs for my 07 gt500 that was black Friday sale they're 4500 regular price. 8k for a stock blower lmao...ppl need to learn their cars themselves and stop relying on the dealer to fix all their issues. If you do you don't have to pay the ridiculous prices for parts and repairs lol.
Great video and Kudos to you for being so transparent. A couple years back I was in the market and settled on a Camaro SS1LE. It was more affordable and has tons of low torque, perfect for me because I don’t like to ring my car out. Your car is beautiful though!
I have been looking at a Corvette C6 Z06 and the GT350. I have owned 7 Corvettes and 3 Mustangs (2 of the Roush Stage 3). The C6 and the 350 both have issues so I started looking at the 2024 Dark Horse. I will keep my 2023 C8 Anniversary Edition.
I'm only 3 minutes into this video and I already like this guy just shoot a straight man! Lol. It's refreshing to see a real review I get so tired of seeing every single vehicle that comes out being the best of the best
Great Video and man I thought I had bad luck fml, sounds like you landed a Friday car and what I mean by that is the car was finished or built on Friday. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Appreciate your comments. Not my experience though - I bought new a 2017 in September of 2016. Daily driver, 88k miles. Swear I haven't driven it over 145 mph! No burning oil, no starting issues, no grinding of gears, smooth running. Replaced battery only once living in the Wash. DC area. Dealership services below average though. I have replaced OEM oil, brakes, & the usual with NO problems. Rough to drive in beltway traffic for an hour or hour and a half.
Thanks for the valuable information, I'm in the market for one of those cobra 2018-2021 and it makes me re think in getting one, was a really smart move to keep the car under warranty witch I'm planning to do, I'm California and the risk are high here to clone this saw after cars or hide any damage. Thank you for sharing your adventures with your car.
Just the way you describe it, it sounds like nothing but a toy for fun! lol. That one line you said is like how I feel everytime I ride my Fourwheeler, about getting anxious when you hop on thinking “ ugh what’s gonna break this ride or will I make it home without a flat” lol
Nice...not too shabby! Still mostly covered by the manufacturer...have you have owned a BMW? Well... I can tell you in advance that mostly of the repairs will be previously known problems from the manufacturer and will not be coved by warranty. Have a nice day dude.
Oh and here I thought this was a Ford only thing and foreign European and japanese cars were far superior to lowly Ford as far as taking care of the customer and all that. Apparently not guess the internet lies after all lmao
I’ve had my Gen 1 for 5 years and no problems besides the AC condenser. Not everyone who buys these cars have problems. I daily drive mine too btw. Yes there are issues but you can’t automatically assume you’re going to have problems
I have a 17 R and I have anxiety every time I drive it ! I do have a warranty b2b but I still might sell! It’s so fun though there is oil every so often in passenger catch can ;( it has 9k miles so far …
If it makes you feel any better I’ve owners / 2 GT350 and 2 GT500 Different years on both, with that said the passenger side will be the only side you really will see oil on the catch can. I have the catch cans from Ford performance to JLT on the driver side that will never see any oil. You will see oil building up on the catch can just from regular start ups from time to time and that’s completely normal it’s doing its job.
I bought a 2016 with 45k miles last August. I just rolled 53k yesterday. So far I haven't had any issues. It had a check engine light for an evap leak that I haven't fixed yet but other than that it's been fine. I had an oil change at about 50k and it looked good. No oil burning issues unless I run it hard and then it's about 1/2 quart. I do have the whining noise you mention and the AC goes out intermittently so I may have to have it serviced soon. So far it's been a fun car. I think I will invest in the ESP though, just to be on the safe side
i have had 2 shelby gt350s i still have one now both first gens. These cars need a proper break in period which requires you to follow the instructions in the manual book and whats even more crucial is warming up the car to the right temperatures before even considering of going full throttle. even in the summer when its plus 30 outside i let the car warm up and it takes around 25 - 30 minutes to fully warm up. most people have not followed these 2 procedures and hence the engine issues. i know gen 1 motors with over 90k miles on them with 0 issues. some people have understood this and their cars run just fine.
Great video I just bought a 2018 and very interested in the warranty that you got after your bumper-to-bumper ran out. Do you have any information you could share?
Just head to the link/info I mentioned in the video, the website does a much better job of explaining the ins and outs than I can. Thanks for watching buddy
I want the r version bad. But ive found non r version around 2017 model year with 30k miles for 35-40k. Wonder what payments on that would be like. Cause a 2020 r for 60-70k payments would be like 900-1k a month.
@@dylanp9211 it might be worth it to get the R, or at least a 2020 at least. You can get an extended warranty on a 2020 currently as long as it’s clean title and unmodified
@VS666 good info. I may just have to do that go with a 2020 non modified 350. I'd really prefer the r so I will probably hold out until I can get an r version. Although I could just add the r wing and front splitter to the non r and it would be pretty similar Although those carbon fiber wheels are so sexy. I'll probably see if I can't get a 2020 model year for sure. God knows my credit isn't the best though so I'll have to bring that up slightly. But I would be able to put down a good 12-15k on it.
This is valuable information for perspective owners. I personally don't think theres a whole lot of difference between the gen 1 and gen 2 engines. I daily my 2016, its been great and I haven't had any issues but a warranty is something that you should heavily consider when you buy one. You also have to treat this car differently than other cars, it needs to warm up before you drive it.
Was thinking of getting a 2017 GT350R but after watching this video. Just throwing new parts at will not solve the bad engineering. Eventually those new parts will go bad unless re-engineered.
You have a new subscriber!! I have a very short attention span and I watched your video right to the end. I always wanted one of either the '19 or '20 GT350s since I thought the Gen 2 engines fixed the issues the Gen 1's had. Thanks for insight that anything can happen with these and having a warranty can save your ass. I think I'll stick to my modified '14 Mustang GT now since it's payed for and don't want anymore headaches with payments. Looking forward to more of your videos. Jay from Vancouver B.C. Canada.
Damn, you have had some bad luck with that car lol. I own a 2018 that I bought brand new. I have 30,000 miles on it, 2 track days , and have never had a single issue. I do have that whine from the AC compressor and I’m just waiting for that to fail but so far it’s still blows cold air. I do all my own maintenance and oil changes every 5000 miles. I just recently had all the other fluids fully flushed since the car is now six years old. I recently purchased the ESP warranty as well, because the engine is just north of $25,000 to replace if out of warranty. That is completely something I do not want to feel like dealing with so it’s better safe than sorry.
I had asked a Ford engineer what they did to fix the flat plane crank engine issues they were having with these and he said, we stopped making them and went back to the good old reliable with a blower on it - we got the GT500 shortly after that. I wonder what Chevy did differently with the c8.
I was thinking about buying a similar Mustang , but after watching your story and seeing all the other stores about these cars. I decided to stick with my 2015 Toyota Camry V6 that hasn’t cost me anything more than some oil changes & a new battery , and I am at 50K miles. I would say buy a Japanese engineered car going forward . As they seem to make a better product.
Good review. It would scare the hell out of me to get a “preowned” Shelby or Hellcat type of vehicle, simply because folks just don’t buy them to drive to church on Sunday……they DRIVE them !!! Out of curiosity, can you retrieve the engine rpm history off the vehicles ECU ? And if so, how many folks actually do ? I know on my 911, if purchased second owner, it is pretty common to do this check. There are certain perimeters that, if the engine has experienced rpm’s in a listed range, purchase is illegal-advised.
That’s a good question but I’m unsure. High revvs aren’t really the issue, it’s everything else that comes along with that sort of driving 😅 especially proper heat cycling
Thank you for making this video. I have never owned a Ford and was looking at the GT350/500 (more the 500). Not sure if you just purchased a Friday car or just bad luck. Doing more research to see if there are more situations like yours. I may have to get another Corvette due to not having any issues at that mileage...and I tracked it. Good call on the warranty and sounds like it paid for itself.
Im not really into these cars but it does look good. I love the way you describe "owning your hero" Mine is a 2001 Pontiac Trans Am WS6. 75k miles and it rips.
Bought my 2018 new. I drive it about 8k miles/yr. AC went out under warranty and again out of warranty. Otherwise, breaking it in right is the key. Only oil i use is what i wipe off the dip stick (and oil separator).
I had a 2017. I had all kinds of electrical problems wire harness replacement, engine replacement, multiple AC compressor replacement, starter replacement. I know exactly what you’re talking about. I love the car but I’ve never trusted it and that’s could not enjoy it so I got rid of it. I complained to Ford so much about it they gave me a seven year hundred thousand mile transferable bumper to bumper warranty. That made me feel better about selling it. That being said I would definitely like to on one of these cars I just don’t know if I would ever do it outside of a warranty.
Great video - fellow owner here of a 2017 but only about 18k miles on it so far. I had an issue with the pistons/cylinders also and new heads were needed on mine, again thankfully it was under warranty like yours. Other than that there has been no other issues. Do you think that the charging system issue is related to the new engine job on yours?
@@VS666 Outstanding video. I currently sit here with my 2018 gt350 with 26k miles on it in the garage gathering dust, unsure of what to do. Year ago late summer started getting "service charging system now" errors randomly. Took to the dealership for 2 days, they knew nothing, changed the battery just because at that point it was 5 years old and likely to go soon anyway. Problem immediately showed its face again on the ride home. Backup camera was intermittently working for a while at this point, F it, kept monitoring voltage, probably just a wiggly wire. Then one day the voltage was going from 14.5 down to 13.5 down to 12.2, then spiking to 14.5 and throwing the error for a few weeks, but still performing as it should. Let it sit the cold winter. Got the alternator replaced in spring, $2k. Electrical problem solved. 7 exact days later the car was feeling a little hesitant at times, and randomly while checking obd2 I saw a cylinder 8 misfire code, but no check engine light. Got some fuel injector cleaner figuring maybe I had a partially clogged or dribbly injector and dumped that in. 10 miles later full on CEL and car noticeably shuddering. Neighbor just so happens to be a mechanic so we did a compression and leakdown test. Zero compression, and leakdown attempt to pressurize the cylinder had air screaming straight out of the crank breathers. Suspect the rings went and joined yours in narnia. Boroscoped the cylinder and piston face and cylinder walls look fine other than there being a bit of carbon deposits or burned oil on the face. Loved the car every time I drove it but quite the myriad of problems to have in such a low amount of miles. At the time of detonation, it was 9 months out of warranty. 3 years of telework caused me to not drive enough to get to the magic mark while in the warranty window. I'm in Maryland, dare I gamble on getting a nearby speed shop to drop in a new modded engine replacement with all stronger parts if that's even an option? Or just unplug the coil pack and drive it straight to trade in... I will never not hold onto another vehicle that is out of warranty.
Sorry to hear about all the costs you've endured. I bought my 20 in March of 21. Tasca Ford here in R.I. sent me a letter suggesting I purchase an extended warranty. They deal with Triton. I had 13K when I purchased the extended warranty, which is good till 2030 and 113K miles. It cost me $4200 I had no inspections done prior, because Tasca performs all the work on this car. The AC compressor went at 16K and it was covered. I am up to 23K miles and have had no issues.
Charging System Error CEL/Warning came back on today! 😮💨🤨🤬
Edit: Car has been fixed, for now, got a new PCM. 6/12
My gt500 throws codes almost daily for charging bs.
Fuqq this car bro. Sticking with Toyota
A good ford tech can do a pin test and find the source of the fault.
Thank you for making me feel better about my 2014 GT. 😂 sorry to hear about your issues. Beautiful car though.
Nice sober, no BS review. In the market for one and the number of these similar stories has me hesitant. Great info on the extended warranty, thanks!
Beware extended warranties are generally never recommended as they don’t help in reality
The days of killer mustangs like that are behind us. You're wise to hang on to it. It trumps any of the s650s hands down.
Dude how the heck is a new mustang breaking like that you should have gotten a restored 69’s mustang
Good call!
The main thing is keep a check on the oil. The issues come from consumption and people not checking their oil and running it hard low on oil. That is what pops these motors 95% of the time. You keep oil in it and maintain it it'll be fine.
Can’t wait to see more from you thanks for the extra warranty info. I didn’t realize you can extend an already extended warranty lol.
This is how all reviews should be!
This was my dream car. But it was going to be my daily as well. So I got a Mach 1 instead. No regrets.
Not even in the market for one, but absolutely loved the honesty and the whole vibe of this. Well done!
I wonder now if he having problem with the gt350 now .
exactly was I was thinking. it sounds like the car was producing more heat and had more power than stock. the tranny problem says it all.
Damn that was interesting! Thanks for the insight
Its not a question if it blows up but when. All GT350 engines are flawed from factory.
@@RSProduction18 I don’t agree with that statement. Many are out there with high mileage. If you let the oil warm up to 175° before revving, it will last. It you track or run it hard install the oil balancing lines to get better lubrication and cooling to cylinder 8.
@@potranco999 What is high milage to you? Every 5.2 engine will vibrate its self to death, its a design flaw. The engine is not balanced like the 5.0
@@RSProduction18 I've seen gen 1s north of 100k miles. The engine has flaws, and a lot of people who bought these cars did not maintain them. It's not a regular mustang, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. Change the oil, monitor the oil, and let it come up to temperature.
Original owner of a 2020 Gt350 HE. 40k miles. Only had oil changes done. I dont track mine but it has gone 176mph.
I was going to buy a used GT 350, but because of issues like you had I decided to get a new Dark Horse. Love it. Great video!
cause of 1 guy huh?
I wouldn’t have bought a Dark Horse, but the Coyote motors are plentiful and available if you really need to replace.
Me too and also ended up in a new Darkhorse after driving both; amazing car love the experience everytime I drive it.
Horrible decision. Lots of better mustangs to go with other than an overrated overpriced dark horse smh. .
@@midnight347 explain
These cars are a hit or miss. I have a 2018 gt350 46k miles gen1 still going strong. 👍🏻
Same here... 2018 with over 30K and strong as ever...
...wow...50k and still going strong...amazing...never heard of such a robust vehicle in the history of automobiles...
It's never been driven in the rain.
that’s cool man, I’m currently 17 and mustangs are my dream car so I’m definitely going for one if I can
Man that car was hammered on hard before you bought it. Beautiful car BTW.
Goddamn dude I’m sorry to hear that, sounds like they were panicking when Gen1 issues started rearing their heads
🤯 yoo not the Viper.
Happy for you it worked out that well!
You had me at the statement "I'm going to go have wings and get drunk cuz this car is going to cost me a million dollars again"
BTW, any wife that would support you with anything resembling that statement is a keeper.
@@CletusEinstein 🤣🤣🤣😉
Thanks for sharing, I’m loving my base GT even more
Great watch.
I had a 2016 gt350 got rid of it as soon as I found a 2020 gt350R. So glad I did
I watched the whole video.
You would think with them having this problem they could share their knowledge and fix the car right the first time
Great job I have an R that I will buy an ESP on soon
Great video, I was in the market for either a used GT350 or manual Zl1. Both cars used are around the same price. Drove both. After doing my research and seeing how crazy reliable 19+ Zl1s are, I bought a 2019 Zl1 6 speed for $57k with 12k miles a few months ago. Tons of stangs where I live, not many Camaros. Love both cars, just one handled better, has 150hp more, and is more reliable..The 350 sounds better though!
Hell yeah brother congratz! I would have went with a ZL1 if they were that cheap a few years ago! Good to know though, I'll give the Shelby another year or two... who knows
The zl1 have alot of issues too don't act like they're issue free or something lol..
Wonderful review, you know your stuff. Sry you had to go thru all that. I hear you about now you are feeling nervous driving it after all you have been thru. A friend of mine was talking about getting a gt350 or gt500 while I only have a GT. I warned him about the engine issues with the Predator motor.
Thanks my man, I appreciate the kind words
Was looking at a Gen 1 vs. a 23 Mach 1 vs. a 13-14 GT500.. thanks for talking me out of this
I’ve been having the same thoughts.
@@labman9912 enjoy it … yep definitely a blast to rip it on any road you travel !
Good stuff. The enjoyment and anxiety statements are so true.
Glad to hear! Keep rocking it!
Great video I have a 2018 and had engine replaced at 20k. Had the charging issue and the A/C issue.
Small world! Was the charging after the engine replacement or before?
@@VS666okay, thanks for the sound explanation.
@ hey, thanks for the insight. I’ll have to pay closer attention to the 2012’s.
"Knock on wood" Mine's a 2016 with almost 60000 miles. A/C issue, but that's it. Race cars don't need A/C..Besides that, it's an amazing car. Best car I have ever had/driven and I've had some nice cars, over 70 cars to date.
Great review and love the honesty! I bet a braptor review would be a hit also.
So far so good, this thing takes and beating and keeps on eating!
Wow. Very different from all the WOT 350 videos, makes me a bit more cautious about buying a 350.. Thanks for this.
Great video and Kudos to you for being so transparent. A couple years back I was in the market and settled on a Camaro SS1LE. It was more affordable and has tons of low torque, perfect for me because I don’t like to ring my car out. Your car is beautiful though!
This is a great review. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Used DH are a really good value right now, they’re going for mid 50s
Awesome review. Very True and honest details about your ownership. Looking at a used one. Maybe go Mach 1.
I'm only 3 minutes into this video and I already like this guy just shoot a straight man! Lol. It's refreshing to see a real review I get so tired of seeing every single vehicle that comes out being the best of the best
Why don’t you date him
@@geofox9484found the Ford apologist😂
Ya I got rid of my GT350 and got a 23 manual Supra, nice not having the anxiety of driving the Shelby anymore
I have been eying those since they did a manual, such a good looking car 🤔😎
@@VS666 It’s a great car, try one out!
Excellent advice about starting with a good car under warranty and getting a ESP from a good dealership.
Amazing video! Very articulate and kept my attention! 🎉
Great job ! Very informative review ❤
Just the way you describe it, it sounds like nothing but a toy for fun! lol. That one line you said is like how I feel everytime I ride my Fourwheeler, about getting anxious when you hop on thinking “ ugh what’s gonna break this ride or will I make it home without a flat” lol
I hope to buy an 19 or 20 GT350 by the end of the year if not by next summer 💯
This Ford warranty extension you are speaking of is it only available via a Ford sold at a Ford dealership? 🤔
Correct
Nice...not too shabby! Still mostly covered by the manufacturer...have you have owned a BMW? Well... I can tell you in advance that mostly of the repairs will be previously known problems from the manufacturer and will not be coved by warranty. Have a nice day dude.
Sounds like a BMW motorcycle warranty as well…
Oh and here I thought this was a Ford only thing and foreign European and japanese cars were far superior to lowly Ford as far as taking care of the customer and all that. Apparently not guess the internet lies after all lmao
I’ve had my Gen 1 for 5 years and no problems besides the AC condenser. Not everyone who buys these cars have problems. I daily drive mine too btw. Yes there are issues but you can’t automatically assume you’re going to have problems
Thanks!…. Great video. Scary stuff😮
Thanks Loved the honesty
I have a 17 R and I have anxiety every time I drive it ! I do have a warranty b2b but I still might sell! It’s so fun though there is oil every so often in passenger catch can ;( it has 9k miles so far …
If it makes you feel any better I’ve owners / 2 GT350 and 2 GT500
Different years on both, with that said the passenger side will be the only side you really will see oil on the catch can. I have the catch cans from Ford performance to JLT on the driver side that will never see any oil.
You will see oil building up on the catch can just from regular start ups from time to time and that’s completely normal it’s doing its job.
@@dfigueroa788exactly that's literally what the catch can is for to catch oil from going back through the intake.
The passenger catch can is supposed to catch oil it's literally doing its job lol.
Glad it’s doing it’s job!
I always wanted a gt350 but I couldn’t afford it so a got a 2023 Mach 1 thank god no problems at all
I bought a 2016 with 45k miles last August.
You can’t buy an ESP for a 2016. It has to be under warranty still.
i have had 2 shelby gt350s i still have one now both first gens.
Correct, very sensitive to proper operating temperatures and oil types (and more than routine changes if tracking it regularly)
Was thinking of getting a 2017 GT350R but after watching this video. Just throwing new parts at will not solve the bad engineering. Eventually those new parts will go bad unless re-engineered.
I have a number of cars. My 2020 GT350R is my favorite. Right there my 2019 ZR1.
So glad I only spent 37k on a slightly used (13k miles) 2019 GT vert in 2019. MSRP was $53,200.
How much was ESP?
@@Benignrodit was 3900 for 5 years/48k miles
thanks for being real brother.
I had asked a Ford engineer what they did to fix the flat plane crank engine issues they were having with these and he said, we stopped making them and went back to the good old reliable with a blower on it - we got the GT500 shortly after that. I wonder what Chevy did differently with the c8.
I agree, there’s no secret to why they only built these cars for five years. I am very interested to see how the C8 reliability turns out as well.
Love my 2018 gt350 gen 1. Put 8k on it so far. Does burn some oil. Solution..check your oil. This is a race car, ya gotta take care of it.
How many miles did it have before you bought it? Sounds like previous owner beat the shit out of it.
34k miles when I bought it
Great video - fellow owner here of a 2017 but only about 18k miles on it so far. I had an issue with the pistons/cylinders also and new heads were needed on mine, again thankfully it was under warranty like yours. Other than that there has been no other issues. Do you think that the charging system issue is related to the new engine job on yours?
Who knows, I was talking to a guy on Facebook last year that was having the same issue but original engine
The first owner probably abused the hell out of that car. The 19,20s have been pretty reliable, just keep up on maintenance.
Yikes!!
My 2013 Boss 302 Laguna Seca just needs oil, brake pads and tires. Been tracked several times with no issues. 😅
WAY too many engine problems with these cars to buy out of warranty it's insane
Damn guess ill have to settle with a 10r 5.0
Sorry to hear about all the costs you've endured.
I bought my 20 in March of 21.
Tasca Ford here in R.I. sent me a letter suggesting I purchase an extended warranty.
They deal with Triton. I had 13K when I purchased the extended warranty, which is good till 2030 and 113K miles. It cost me $4200
I had no inspections done prior, because Tasca performs all the work on this car.
The AC compressor went at 16K and it was covered.
I am up to 23K miles and have had no
issues.
