I had forgotten all the times my mother had made Tuna Casserole. There were 6 in our family, 4 hungry boys, mom and dad. Mom was an expert at making money stretch tight enough that Washington could have crossed the Delaware on a single dollar. I called my mother, who turned 95 this year and told her about this video. I remember tuna casserole very foundly, Mom always mad plenty of it. She used saltine crackers because she could get them in bulk and 4 cans because she had to stretch the meat. But I always think of it fondly. Ironically, she told me by the time I was seventeen, all of us would go "Oh no, not again." But there was never leftovers and I still remember my mother making tuna casserole. I won't be able to get down to see my mother before New Years Eve, but we decided that dinner that night will be me cooking Tuna Casserole for the two of us. Thanks for jogging my memory and stirring up old emotions. God bless you and your crew for this video and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Mom, Dad and 5 brothers. Every night around the table. Mom would use Lays Potato Chips. 87 in October.
@@gmans7859 I asked Mom about potato chips. She says that she did make them that way also...occasionally. Dad liked it with Saltine Crackers, so Saltines it was.
What a sweet memory. 🥰🥰
Try visiting her in person instead of just calling.
@@crystalhaiku Just an update: I moved into my Mom's house in December. She told us, at 96 years old, that she was tired and I had the ability to come down and take care of her. She passed on July 2nd, quickly and quietly. Crystalhaiku, you were right. This was the best 7 months of my life.
As a professional Le Cordon Bleu chef...I respect your methods. You’re a good Chef.
I thought my mother invented tuna casserole. Really I did. Growing up in the 1950's my mother could make any left over into a casserole and her 4 boys would eat every morsel with no complaint. WAIT my youngest brother hated peas but there was peas in everyone of them. But she never wasted 4 cans , I think there was one can, but it was filling and we loved it. Mom is gone, and so is Dad, but the memories of setting at that supper table with a steaming casserole waiting her hungry crew remains and just the scent of it cooking today makes me remember those days. Thank you Kent and Shannon for reminding me of those days....
God bless the individuals who get to enjoy this. You are so wholesome and just overall good people. The world needs more individuals like you.
This was a dish that disappeared from my parents' table as mom and dad finally started making plenty of money. Dad never really liked it and had the attitude that we didn't have to eat that anymore. But I WANT to eat it, and it has gone back into the repertoire at my house.
Always one of my son's favorite things and the first thing my mom taught me to make.
Happy Thanksgiving in thanks for the blessing we have received, even though they be few this year full of betrayers & leaving us with a lean harvest table. I give thanks to all my friends who still honor & love America & her citizens in all of their diversity.
My wife made a variation of this tonight for dinner, but used chicken instead of tuna. Turned out amazing!!
Happy Thanks Giving Cowboy Kent, Shan, The Beag, Duke, Sadie and Maj. Have a great day!!
Thank you for the shout out to the veterans. I cook for veterans at the VA hospital in Ann Arbor Michigan. Love your videos.
Hello Mr. Rollins, I just wanted to write and tell you how much I enjoy your channel and how my father and I bonded over watching (and talking) about your videos. My father recently passed away, but I still watch your videos. You always reminded me of my father, the way you would dance and be so joyful when it came to your food. Much love from my family to you and yours, all the way from Hawaii! Keep up the great work, Sir.
Thank you for another great and easy recipe! I can't wait to make this! Thank you too for the sweet words at the end of your videos! I am a Navy veteran. Spent nine years serving our amazing country that we love. God Bless!
Tuna casserole bring back memories of my childhood big time. Thanks for the programming 🙏
Hey dear , how are you doing
This was big in my house growing up. Never liked it much as a kid for some reason but like it now
Actually taste buds change as you age like all of the body. The desire for sweets can still be there but not as overpowering as when younger. All amazing when it's the body telling you what you need more of and less of.
Classic. Thanks Kent, Shan, Andy and the pups.
I am such a fan of this channel, I'm watching the Cowboy make tuna casserole. And I don't even like tuna casserole!
Wow.. Love tuna casserole. It is so warm and comforting Many thanks to you and yours for all you do and for letting enjoy all the recipes, cast iron cooking, food , puppies and love.
You are so welcome
Just the way mom used to make it! Delicious!
Thank you Ken for recognizing us service men and women! I appreciate it! 20 years Navy retired. Thanks for a great homemade recipe that will bring back good memories!
Thanks for your service and for watching
Likewise. I do believe this cowboy is my favorite cook. !7 degrees F greeting the New Year last night and that is a little cool for Texas and this Texan. Lt USN (ret)
Watching these videos is always supremely comforting to me, even though I'm far up north here it still hits just as hard haha. Helps that I'm an absolute fiend for tuna
Great time to chill, settle yourself and learn something new and delicious. Cowboy Rollins MVP
Nothing beats a good ole tuna noodle casserole! I add celery, mushrooms and peas to mine along with the onion and mushroom soup. Instead of crumbs, I top with shredded cheese right before its ready to come out! Great hot from the oven, gets better as leftovers. You can sub canned Salmon or Jack Mackerel for a change of pace, just pick out those bones and skin for the cat!
Hey dear , how are you doing?
Salmon bones are good and full of calcium.
Howdy Kent! I just wanted to let you know That all my relatives that don't like cranberries loved the cranberry salad. I love cranberries myself .I only used a 16 os. bag. That recipe would feed a host of cowboys. They only ate a half of a smaller batch. so I'm sharing with my good neighbor and friend tomorrow. I never made homemade whipped cream before. My mom said don't whip it to long or you will make butter. She said that happened to her. Shoot now I know how to make butter. Thanks Ken, Shan And all the puppy dogs.
Huge fan of Kent Rollins!!!
07:00 HEAVEN-ON-EARTH (visually)
JACKSTRAW TUNA CASSEROLE (my favorite entre)
2 cans tuna
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 small-med onion
2 cups fried shoestring cut potatoes
Saute onions after chopping mix with mushroom soup add drained tuna mix in 1 cup shoestring potatoes place mixture in appropriate sized oven safe container (ideally a casserole dish) bake 350f for 20-30 min or until deep golden brown on top
A salad of fresh vegetables and a variety of greens rounds this off to be a pretty basic meal
Thanks for watching
Could you do more videos of you, and Shan cooking for ranch crews? If the ranch videos you've already made were on vhs, they'd be worn out, that's how many times we've watched them! Thank you, and keep up the good work!
It's like a savoury crumble, complete with streusel on top.
Good recipe with the heavy cream. Happy Thanksgiving. We have much to be thankful for, especially with Kent cooking.
Hey dear , how are you doing?
I like to add mushrooms to my tuna casserole and Green Peas, but will try without peas next time, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YA'LL. i truly enjoy your recipes and seeing the puppies every week.
Definitely peas and a can of cream of mushroom soup.
Peas could go either way, half the time people mush them and ruin them anyway
I like peas too
My wife always added green peas but without the mushrooms. Plus, she sprinkled Bluebell BBQ potato chips on top....mmm good!
Mushrooms sound good.
Thank you for your support and we do watch you!!!
Another family fav around my house. It was a great quick meal that anyone CAN make. As in I used Canned cream of mushroom soup, Canned tuna, Can of mushrooms and a Can of peas. Served it on toast I did. I still make it for myself these days, good food and plenty of it without breaking the bank. Not a big 'cheese' fan myself, but the top layer of Ritz sounds tasty. Thanks for sharing.,
That’s Exactly how I make mine, don’t have the energy anymore to make it homemade. I don’t care for cheese in mine either.
@@southerngrandma4353 yeah no cheese needed
Same as yours but I prefer cream of celery although it’s whatever I happen to have. I also will add sautéed diced carrot or bell pepper if I happen to have them around and need to use it up
at 08:55 my blood pressure drops by ten points. I literally paused and just looked at this frameworthy scene. Thanks again Kent! Making the recipe next week! Yum!
I just did the same... what a great picture.
Hey dear , how are you doing?
I loved your comment about the green peas. That is the great thing about a casserole you can make it the way you want it.
Love Tuna Casseroles. One of my favorite dishes. Happy Thanksgiving Mr. Kent and family.
Kent Im sick as a dog and you got me through it watching videos. you are a kindred spirit! keep it up
Love your recipes and channel, sir. Thank you for supporting American veterans.
I am a new viewer and just love your recipes! Simple food but delicious. And the dancing is the icing on the cake.
I love your videos, Kent.
I live in a rural part of San Diego. We get snow several times each winter and the Butterfield stagecoach used to run right through the area I live in. We have cattle on the sides of our highway. We have real working cowboys out here that round up the cattle. I love the old west way of life.
Mr. Rollins I would just like to say thank you for all the great recipes and videos that you have done this year. I hope you and your family have a fantastic, and joyous holiday!
Hey dear , how are you doing?
Love me some tuna casserole!
Thank you for sharing your recipe.
Happy Turkey day to you and your family 🦃🦃
@Henrique I second that!! It’s disrespectful.
I LOVE your vids! Please keep them coming Kent! I get so many great recipes from you.
You should try Crushed potato chips on top adds a whole new dimension to this
HAPPY THANKSGIVING !!! Love and Prayers
Thanks so much
Have watched many of your videos. This one for some reason was the best. Doggie photos were very relaxing. Love tuna casserole, it no one else I live with doesn’t 😢
Glad you like them!
This video popped up on my feed today and am so very happy because this Tuna Casserole Dish is what I’ve been looking for. Thank You and God Bless.
Mom used to make this and Spanish noodles when I was a kid back in the 70's. Well those are the two that I remember...
I bake mine in a large casserole dish, I use rotini noodles and add peas and mushroom soup I use shredded cheddar cheese and of course town house crackers crumbled on top. Bake for 45 minutes in 400 degrees. It's scrumptious 😋
Sounds great!
I love it! My husband said he married me for my tuna noodle casserole and pumpkin pie. But the first time I made him tuna noodle casserole he said "I like peas in mine and please don't make me hunt for em sweetheart"...lol....since it's the only green vegetable he eats they're goin' in. Your recipe looks like some satisfying comfort food no matter how we tweak it. Have a great Thanksgiving you two. I know the pups will.
That looks delicious, I bet the pups enjoyed their bites!
Good evening Mr. Rollins. I just love tuna casserole and have tried several versions of it. I remember my dad making it with Condensed mushroom soup, mixed veggies, milk, and of course cheese but topped his with Ruffles potato chips. I just made your version and I have to feed 6. It was soooo delicious and it made plenty even for seconds. My family says to write this one down, it's a keeper. Thank you for sharing.
OK so far your recipe is the best one on the RUclips
and you did it just like me! I agree four cans of tuna what the heck. And the dancing just makes everything funner
Making this tonight...it's only 4° today. Gonna make this with Monterey Jack Cheese with Jalapeno for a little extra heat & zing. Thanks for the recipe Kent (and Shannon!).
I make the tuna casserole with a large can of tune drained, 1 can of cream of mushroom soup, soup can full of milk, and 1 standard can of peas drained. Stir those together right in the casserole dish, add salt & pepper to taste. Top with crushed potato chips and bake at 350F for 40-45 minutes!
I really like watching you and what you cook, I have made a lot of your dishes. Thank you for being you and your wife is a blessing to you. May the Son always touch your path. I really appreciate the fact that you give thanks to all Veterans for I am one, without the Flag we have no Honor. Thank God for your continued success.
Hey dear , how are you doing?
Grown up eating that and still make it bc reminds me of my family eating together when I growing up
I just made this for my family using your exact recipe. It's was better than I expected. Just wish I had a "bertha" lol.
Kent you're indeed a pleasure to watch after a long day!! From south texas HAPPY THANKSGIVING🦃🦃 KENT AND SHANNON!!!MAY GOD BLESS YOU BOTH ALWAY'S
Thanks for watching and God bless you
Im not a big fan of Tex-Mex cuisine but this guy can cook and he has made a fan out of me...this is a great dish and his breakfast casseroles are amazing as well...keep up the great work, my friend...
People don't remember the 70s and the early 80s, bread and butter when with your dinner and a little sugar on your bread and butter was your dessert. I'm 51and still remember the cheap but good food we ate. Once a week McDonald's 50cet burger was a treat. God Bless all.
My hubby doesn’t care for Tuna casserole., only make it when he’s away working. I love it…
Thanks cowboy Kent n co❤️

I love tuna casserole! I’ll be trying this over the fire soon. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
This is a classic I love love love. Made even better by the one good ol cowboy Kent. Thank ya sir!
It's amazing that Chef Rollins seems to have an authentic, historically informed chuck wagon! It's like a mobile kitchen! Evidently he has a gorgeous collection of cast iron cookware...
Thank you. I made it up and my family loved it!
Whew! For a second, I was afraid you might have gotten a hold of my Mom's secret recipe for Tuna Potato Chip Casserole! :-)
Hey dear , how are you doing?
My Grandma used to put crumbled up potato chips on our tuna casserole, too.
Tuna casserole... one of my favs. Nice.
Comfort food it is
Thanks for bringing back great memories.
😋 Thank you all!
I will try, but will need sub vegetable broth for our Friday meatless days. Love your channel ❤.
NYCCOWGIRL here. Happen to have caught this video and dang! The simplicity and charm you ooze is just right. Yup, I subscribed. I like your Ariat🌻
You folks are truly a National Treasure 🇺🇸 real Americana right here 💘

That’s some good home cooking
I feel the memories
Thanks for the blessing at the end. It really hit the spot today.
Happy Thanksgiving Rollins family.. thank you for all the great videos so far .. they fill the stomach and the soul .. respect from Canada 🇨🇦
My Mother had a dog that she spoiled. It got it's own chicken pot pie! The pooch would eat every drop of the pie EXCEPT the green peas. There would be 15 or 20 peas lined up on the side of her food plate, licked dry but uneaten.
We love you and Shannon! You make extraordinary food from ordinary ingredients! Happy Thanksgiving!
Hey dear , how are you doing?
Always looking for good recipies for dutch oven cooking for Boy Scouts. Thanks!
Giving you the benefit of the doubt. But I think my wife has the best tuna casserole. AND the best cornbread dressing (But I promise I will be cutting onions and celery as the sous chef for her recipe!) HAPPY THANKSGIVING Kent. And also to everyone watching!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL
Wasn't sure if we'd get a video today with holiday and all, but I sure am glad we did. I wouldn't hold it against you Kent if you took the week off, as you certainly deserve it. Considering all you've given to the world with your videos.
Cowboy Kent at it again with another winner.
This dude does not miss
Learned some new adds for my casserole. Thanks! Happy Thanksgiving to you and Shannon and crew.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your puppys and family. Much loves and hugs
LOL I Love This. People are saying it's not Tuna Casserole without Peas LOL Kents Recipe Looks Amazing
Loves the casserole as kid still love it . Like you kicking it up a notch
This is awesome! I'd have never thought of tuna casserole as cowboy cookin' but trust good ole Kent to prove me wrong. Another hit, Kent!
Good eating it is
Any hearty meal works for me!
My mom uses kettle cooked salt and vinegar chips for our crust, absolutely amazing
I still do the green. I'll try yours tomorrow. Thanks for what you do. As always. Thank you
Yummy! If you are a mom, you'd probably add some mixed veggies or peas. Either way.
menin moms messing perfectly good food with yucky peas because they usually get over cooked.
@@MerkDolf frozen petite peas are good, canned peas are sickening!
Exactly. Easy enough to mix in a bag of peas and carrots just before you put the casserole in the oven.
I understand your logic, but you shouldn't ruin a good thing.
Makes my mouth water every time thank you sir for what you do
We called white bread light bread in my birthplace of South Georgia. Sunbeam or Colonial.
Oh i'm doing this one, my Mom tuna casserole but with linguine noodles......and peas, thanks Kent,Shannon and team
