I was stationed on the Korean DMZ in 1975. Our schedule was North Day, QRF Day, and off day. On my off days, I’d go to the NCO Club for a tuna melt with a cream of mushroom soup. Man, your video brings back memories, Kent. But I bet your Cheesy Tuna Melt on Sourdough is so much better than I remember. Thanks for sharing.
This has the be some of the best and purest content on RUclips. God bless you all especially the Cowboy Kent himself. Now time to make a tasty tuna melt.
In my 68 years I've never seen someone who has so much enjoyment in what he does! Even something like a tuna melt that I remember from my single-digit years is amped up with the Kent Rollins touch. It's what Mom would cook up on the wood stove at our cabin in Sequoia National Park. Thanks for the memories... I'm making this tomorrow!
Just made this today. Being an old farmer/rancher dude I have NEVER been able to eat tuna fish. Just can't stomach it. So I used salmon. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST! Thanks Mr. Rollins...this was EXCELLENT - well - except the tuna.
As always, being a veteran I so very much appreciate the tip of the hat to all and the love for old glory🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸. At this time in our country we need so many more Rollins families. Share his channel with all you can like I do, let’s make this a better country, one viewer at a time.
I made these tuna melts tonight for dinner... AMAZING. This is by far the best tuna melt we have ever had. It will become a regular in our kitchen. Thank you Kent!!!
even 4 years later i steady come back to this recipe because man it is good. plus i cant get over this mans voice. some of the best food ever right here on his channel plus his attitude
Just had a hot, cheezy cowboy tuna melt. My bride said "very, very good! " and I agree. Look forward to your recipe every week. Thank you Mr and Mrs Rollins.
Thank you being from the UK (we don't have tuna Melt) Made it fantastic. I made my own Mayo 1 egg 1 teaspoon mustard (english) 2 teasps lemon juice 1 vinegar, 250 ml canola oil and use a stick blender in a narrow contianer. blend until mayo
I do almost the same recipe for my tuna melts! I've been experimenting for years. Except I like to add (you say hefty but where I live we call 'em "big momma spoonfuls") a big momma tea teaspoon of Dijon, little Sour Cream too and a sprinkle of Old Bay on the butter.
Cowboy Kent, I love your channel. Thank you especially for your support for our veterans and those who keep us safe which allows us to lead the lives we do. We are truly privileged and blessed to live in this great country and I appreciate how you honor the folks who defend the principals which provide these freedoms. Please say hello to all the pooches, love to see them in the videos.
I was introduced to baked Tuna about the same time of my life by a neighbor who was Portuguese. Until then I had only eaten it out of a can...what a game changer!!
I'm so glad you like our Irish butter. I like sourdough rye bread and a bit of chopped parsley in the mix. Irish cheddar too, if you can get it. Thems good eats!
I always put the horseradish in my tuna, tuna and horseradish are made for each other. Relish too, secret seasoning and I add minced onions. I also use hand sliced Munster cheese. The melt on that cheese is unreal. You have to slice it yourself though from an 8 ounce block. Make the slices thick. Pre-sliced cheese doesn’t melt as well. You’ll thank me later. Tuna melt, one of my favorite sandwiches. Yum! 😋
I thank you so much for giving a shout out to the military. I’ve been in the Air Force now for 22yrs. It feels good to be appreciated. Thank you for the class Mr. Rollins
My mom and I sit down together and enjoy every video you and Shannon put out! We have used MANY of your tips and tricks to improve our grilling 😁. We love you all so much! Don't let the negativity and criticism of keyboard critics get you all down. You all are wonderful and generous for taking the time to make these videos and share with us! 👍👍🇺🇸🦅🤠🤟
Folks I made this today and you will not believe what this guy can do to tuna. I’m always dubious when it comes to tuna recipes but I made it cause my mom has diet restrictions. (I have to admit I actually smiled and did a Kent dance when I took the first bite.) To anyone out there who’s not sure if they’ll like anything having to do with tuna: MAKE IT. You won’t be sorry. 🤩
I'd add thin slices of tomato in there too. I don't normally like tomatoes in sandwiches, but they go really well on a tuna melt, tying the whole thing together.
I love how you took something well known and elevated it by combining all the different flavours and ingredients. Making something simple special. I think that's what they call "fine dining". Hope you're both keeping well and safe and I will definitely be trying this.
The concrete trowel comment made me think of Home Improvement. The episode where Tim has the construction workers on Tool Time to show him how they make lunch on the job site. Anybody else remember that?
eating one now and i used mayo, chives, pepper and salt and shredded cheese, man this stuff is addictive, thank you ken for hookig me up on this, your videos are truly the best
I tune in to Kent and Shannon just to get my mind off all that is going on in this crazy world (and make some amazing food).. They bring a little bit of sunshine and joy to my day every time I watch a video. Some days I even have to watch reruns !!! God Bless........
My 21 yr daughter is hooked on tuna melts, so tonight I thought I would give it a try because I wanted something simple. I guess the though eating heated tuna salad wasn't going to taste good, but I was very wrong. It's awesome. This is the first time I've eaten a tuna melt w/jalapeño cheddar bread. I'm 48 yrs. 😊
Best tuna salad recipe ever. If you have Winco, stock yourself up with their plain sourdough. 1 for the counter, 2 for the freezer, is my wife’s order. I am so grateful that you, Shannon, and the tail boys are there and well. Lord knows we need as many good things we are used to hold us together as possible. Y’all doin your part.
Nothin’ like a fresh Red River tuna, tha’int! Appreciate your appropriately modified tribute to those who keep us safe. Thanks for all you do, good people and good pups.
I hope the audio wasn't fishy, lolz. The biggest jackpot I ever won was the equivalent of $20 us dollars in mexican peso, but for a kid in 1995, boy, was I living TEH DREAM!!!
Fantastic video Kent, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this episode. Back in the late 1940's or early 1950's, my older sister saved up the labels and received an inflatable Charlie. Oh yeah. Ol' Charlie used every trick he could think of to get caught and it only got him the sign that was lowered down. "Sorry Charlie". Thanks for sharing this nostalgic trip down memory lane . Stan
We make open faced on hamburger buns fresh from the bakery. Japanese mayo, tuna, and some chives. Put a big old slice of tomato on top from the garden and broil em up. After getting everything hot and toasty I throw on some cheese (any favorite cheese will do) and throw it back in to melt and maybe get that cheese a little brown and bubbly. They're good. Grandma always used to make those is huge batches on the farm for our lunch. I love 'em and I'm going to try and incorporate a few of the things I learned here as well next time!
The only type of tuna I’ve had or made was just Hellman’s and seasoned bread crumbs, over time I’ve added some old bay, salt and pepper. But this recipe looks pretty good and I really wanna try it. Maybe minus capers, I find them to be really strong in flavor.
With all the craziness going on in the world, seeing your videos makes me feel so calm & happy knowing you, Shan, & your pups are here to bringing us smiles. Hugs
Well Kent, down under here in the great southern land of Australia - we gathered our ingredients yesterday, and today we broke out the skillet and followed your amazing recipee for these Cheesy Tuna Melts on Sourdough Bread. Yeeee-haaaawwwwwwww!!!! Absolutely amazing! I do not usually eat capers, and horse-radish is something we usually only have at Passover each year, but I made them just like the recipee and the flavours were incredible! Thank you so much :-) And yes, I did a Happy Dance after the first bite eating mine! Wooo-Hooo!!!
Oh, I remember th commercial! :-) Thanks fer another great meal, tuna melts are among my favourite sammiches. When I cooked at Country Kitchen, mid '70's, we cut em diagonally in half when melted, an stood em on edge on th cut side fer mebbe a minute, then speared em with frill picks, plated with their side (s), an sent em out th window to th customer. Be safe an well, alla yall, God Bless!
I have a love/hate relationship with tuna. (Yeah, I remember "Sorry Charlie" tuna commercials) I love a well made tuna sammich. However, as a kid, one of my aunts "rern't me" on tuna-smish sammiches. Auntie's tuna-smish went sorta like this.... buy/open a can of tuna packed in oil and dump into a bowl (don't drain the oil), glop on an equal amount of "salad dressing" (plastic mayo), and pack it onto some Wonder Bread. As you bit into it, the oil ran down your arm. To this day, I'll probably turn it down if asked... but will enjoy it if it's put in front of me. LOL That looks like a winner of a tuna melt.
I had an Aunt that did that too except she added chopped onion and chopped pickles. The only time that I would choose the leave it part of take it or leave it.
Made this last night (albeit a bit modified), and it was delicious. My mom and I really enjoyed it, and I will be making it again in the future. Plus it gives us something to make with all the tuna we have. Thank you from Portland Oregon!
I enjoyed the breakdown of the history of tuna. That was awesome mixed with good content and detailed measurements. Love the videos. Keep it up! #HappySubscriber
I use to made one similar when I live with my girlfriend, but sofried tomato, onion and oregano...and then the tuna in water. Evaporate the water, reserve. Lemon, dry...and then the mayo. And is ready for the bread! Regards from Colombia- South America
I was waiting for the Jalapenos/Banana Peppers to go in. I love the combination of savory tuna, spicy heat from the peppers, and creamy cheddar cheese (sometimes even cream cheese) :P
Y'all, I went over to my mom's house the other day and made this (minus the capers - it was the only thing she didn't have). And let me tell you: ooooooooooh weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it was good! We shared a sandwich because it's such a big boy that neither of us could eat an entire one on our own. Cowboy Kent, you truly are a national treasure
Hey Miss Shannon and Mr Kent! Love the videos! I heard where folks enlighten y'all to new things and I'm here to tell ya about something a cook friend of mine told me about a few years back and it changed my tuna melt and grilled cheese experience on its ear! Instead of putting butter on the bread for grilling, he coats his bread with real mayo for grilling! Holy smokes ladies and gentleman! That is the only way to make them in my house now! Talk about Mmmm goodness! Hope you try it Kent and maybe make a video about it too! See y'all in the next one!
I just made this. It was delicious. What luck, I had almost everything (including fresh mozzarella and parmigiano reggiano). I did not have cheddar so I used Jarlsberg. My husband loved it. Thank you Kent, I think that you are more sophisticated than you let on. By the way Kent, I used tuna packed in olive oil (well drained) - the only one I buy. Try it sometime for this superb sandwich.
Can see my mother making my Saturday tuna melt. Great memories from Charlie the Tuna. Ready to make this for my birthday. Thank you Shannon and Kent. Russell in Houston,Texas
As always ..2 Thumbs up. Thanks for all of your great recipes & humor.. God Bless you , Shan, & the dogs. God Bless America & All Who Support & Defend Her.. Stay Real.
Nothing better to make in this pandemic. Got a 3 month old starter out of the yeast shortage, makes an amazing sourdough, and you already know we've got plenty of tuna, cheese and fresh veggies from the garden.
As a 6th generation Eastern Shoreman, I can confirm this. Old Bay makes everything better. For this, I would add it to the butter, vs put it in the tuna mix. If in the mix, it will overpower it. But a light dusting on the bread will lift it right nice.
@MrGizmo757 Im on the mid-shore. Yeah Tuna is not something I would put Old Bay in, but it does make for a good mix-in with the butter for the bread. Plain old grilled cheese with Old Bay butter is ungodly good. I do like it on ice cream as well lol
CKR.. I tried this and it was absolutely one of the most delicious tuna sandwiches I've ever eaten.... You are right the capers kick it over the top along with the horseradish sauce....
I just ate a huge salad with BBQ shrimp, roasted peppers and mushrooms...my stomach still growling and mouth salivating watching this like I ain't ate nothin! Oh and I type this I was wondering if it was too hot out for the kiddos' Beagle and Duke which I can understand, it's 108 here in Vegas...but @10:50 Love it!
With so much negativity on TV and in newspapers. You and Shannon are an Oasis in the midst of the desert for folks to get away. Thanks for another great video recipe!!! God Bless you and your family.
Oh my! I love watching you cook! You are so entertaining. I always feel so happy after one of your shows. Please keep the lovely attitude and banter coming our way!

Tuna pasta salad is another good Summer option! Be sure to use some of the Duke's mayo that Kent and I love so much lol!
after watching this video I’d say she might’ve had the right idea

Those capers are the key I believe. Love em
Just made this for my parents. It was a HUGE hit🤤🤤🤤
Glad everyone enjoyed
In the UK they mix corn in with the tuna. It adds a fantastic texture and flavor. Try it. Bet you love it!
This sorry Charlie reference is amazing... brings back memories... Love the show keep up the good work

KERRY GOLD BUTTER IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD 😊☘ 🇺🇸 🇮🇪
Yes it Is for sure🇮🇪
Kerry Gold is fire 🔥 Smjör Icelandic Butter is great too but a lot of stores near me have quit carrying it.
fully agree. I can also get in China. Great butter for many dishes.
Do you get commission from Kerry?
Is it better than the rest of the competition? Because I tried the other stuff and ....??? I couldn't believe it

@@victorl.6128 I do not but my grandmother also had one and it is still in her old curio cabinet. Sadly it no longer works.

As an Irish viewer it's great to see you using Kerry gold butter, it's a great Irish product.
The only type of tuna I’ve had or made was just Hellman’s and seasoned bread crumbs, over time I’ve added some old bay, salt and pepper. But this recipe looks pretty good and I really wanna try it. Maybe minus capers, I find them to be really strong in flavor.

God was breathing waaaay to close to Kent's location, hence why it was windy. _He wanted to take a good whiff at what the man was cookin'!_
Gotta try this/ looks yum!

I remember those StarKist commercials as a kid when they still ran them in early-mid 1990s.
I made this recipe yesterday before our final NFL game of the season... Our team lost but I was a winner with praise from my family.
I stopped this, quickly drove to the store to pick up what I didn't have before they closed at 9 came back and watched the rest.
Made this last night (albeit a bit modified), and it was delicious. My mom and I really enjoyed it, and I will be making it again in the future. Plus it gives us something to make with all the tuna we have. Thank you from Portland Oregon!
Love the recipe! Next time try dicing up some pickled jalapenos to replace the relish (or just to add in beside it). Texas Tuna Melt
Love chopped, jarred jalapeno in my tuna as well.
Cowboy Kent is the KING of comfort food!!! This looks so good and reminds me of childhood and home.
I enjoyed the breakdown of the history of tuna. That was awesome mixed with good content and detailed measurements. Love the videos. Keep it up! #HappySubscriber

CKR.. I tried this and it was absolutely one of the most delicious tuna sandwiches I've ever eaten.... You are right the capers kick it over the top along with the horseradish sauce....
One of the best days of my life was when I discovered Kerrygold butter.
You really are the salt of the earth type. A truely enjoyable man
I usually have my tuna melt on a good Rye bread. I wonder how this would taste on Rye?
I just ate a huge salad with BBQ shrimp, roasted peppers and mushrooms...my stomach still growling and mouth salivating watching this like I ain't ate nothin! Oh and I type this I was wondering if it was too hot out for the kiddos' Beagle and Duke which I can understand, it's 108 here in Vegas...but @10:50 Love it!
I don't even like tuna, but here I am learning how to whip some up nonetheless.
With so much negativity on TV and in newspapers. You and Shannon are an Oasis in the midst of the desert for folks to get away. Thanks for another great video recipe!!! God Bless you and your family.
God bless you and yours. Thanks for watching.
“I wouldn’t say no to a tuna melt.”
Me neither, my workplace makes it every other Friday with potato soup and a baked tomato. It’s absolutely perfect 👌

DELICIOUS 😁👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much Reynaldo and God bless you
This looks delicious. A small idea to add, hard-boil an egg and add the white to the mixture before stirring it up. Delicious.
Oh yes Charlie, remember him .
This man is so genuine I love his content 💕
I remember the tag line for Charlie Tuna was; "We want tuna that taste good not tuna with good taste" Something like that....
Looking good Ken, this is tuna melt my mom made before she passed away back in 1983.
Here cause I have a stockpile of canned tuna 😂
Me too! 😂😂😂
I made this for my grandparents and they absolutely loved it
So glad everyone enjoyed
